cool graphics!
The look and feel of this game is absolutely great with a gamepad, you did an awesome job polishing the graphics on it. I think if you're able to add some sfx and a background track to a post-compo version you'd be 90% of the way to a high-quality finished arcade shooter. Excellent work!
You really made the art style work!
I really like the idea with the dual resources. The controls felt great. I did feel like the tuning was a little tight on the fuel, as I felt like I had to spend my entire time going straight towards fuel or I would run out and just trust that I got enough health to handle any mistakes (I usually did). I tended to die because I ran into two fuel ships in a row that decided to spend their time inside of planets. So, that got a little frustrating. But it was a small thing and I think could have been fixed with an ever so slightly slower fuel drain. Though tuning is definitely an opinion, so you may find others disagree with me there.
Nice art style, the game feels dynamic. I would say that the background is a little bit too present maybe, idk something is just a little bit off with it. Also the pick ups are kind of hard to get cause the ship moves soo fast, but that some small details. Nice one !
Nicely balanced twin-stick. I enjoyed the art style and how responsive the ship is. The little bit of inertia when changing directions was a nice touch.
This game looks and feels awesome to play. Great job!
I really like the art style and the movement feels really really smooth, but I couldn't figure out how to shoot? I tried space, tried all the face buttons on a ps4 controller. Maybe I'm just missing something obvious?
@zevseh @loginaut @dom-de-re @yorsh @yetrecalllaw @rawb thanks to all of you for trying my game, I'm glad you appreciate it
Concerning the tuning of the game and the speed at the fuel run out, I had a very little time to tweak it at the end of the compo, and I'm affraid I went from "too easy" to "too hard". Same thing for the number of entities by sector, it is definitly something I wish I had more time to balance on the end.
@evil-villain-games I'm sorry that you couldn't find how to shoot. Actually, you have to use the right stick to shoot in the direction you want. But I couldn't try with a PS4 controller, so maybe it just doesn't work
Hey ! Nice game I liked it ! The ship is a bit too fast and the enemy's bullets a bit to small in my opinion but otherwise the game feel is great and it's impressive for a game made in 48 hours ! Good job !
Nice simple graphics. I think there needs to be work on the ships movement. When I push in a directions for movement the ship does not face that way. I understand you wanted to be able to shoot in a different direction than the ship movement. I think maybe there should be a gun turret that could rotate for the gun that way the ship could face in the direction it moves.
Had fun with this one!
Pros:
- Simple, clean, pleasing to eye graphics - Good UI - Like the arrows indicating your nearest powerup (health/fuel)
Cons:
- I think the background is maybe a little bit too dense with stars etc... maybe adding more 'whitespace' between could improve it. - I feel like there's not enough fuel economy to keep you going, especially after 7-8k+ - No sounds or any kind of music (but you opted out Audio anyway) - Not my type of 'deeper and deeper' (but again, I didn't follow theme much this time around) - Also, it feels like the game was intended to be played with controller and not keyboard (shooting movement style)
Overall a solid entry, with space to improvement. Good job!
Very good entry. I only missed the sound. Otherwise it's done very well. Controls are spot on.
I really liked the art style
I got a nice warm "retro"-feeling playing this! I liked the graphics and the colour-palette very much, felt like a good theme. I tried the keyboard first but it was easier with USB-gamepad (just like you recommended  )
Sounds would have added some extra to this, but other than this it is well made in such a short time! Enjoyed this one! :rocket:
Loved the simpleness in art style and game concept!! My only point of critisism was that the background felt a little too clustered in my opinion.
Great game, for a jam!
Very cool game. It's generally very polished. The only thing that I didn't like was that is is very hard to collect the things the enemies drop. Also, sometimes it was hard to see the enemies bullets on the background.
One way to fix these problems is to make the pick-ups slowly move towards the player if the player is close. Also add particles or something to the bullets.
Well done, gameplay feels great, keyboard was alittle wonky, but once I used a gamepad it was awesome.
The gameplay is fun, and the visuals are great! Although I think it'd be good if you could aim and shoot with a mouse. Well done! :D
Nice graphics! Liked the controls, using two separate sets of arrows simultaneously was a bit difficult but very fun. The dame would definitely benefit from having music & sound effects. Nice job!
Nice job with this! I really liked the artstyle and the feel of the ship. I thought it was neat that you pointed out the nearest source of HP and fuel. I didnt quite get that on my initial play but realized afterwards when I stumbled upon a glowing asteroid. I thought that made for interesting gameplay, knowing when to go off-course to get some more fuel or hp and when to keep gaining distance. Some music and sfx, even token royalty free stuff would go a long way. Overall great job!
Very good designs and UI. I love your retro-art style ! Good job !
Some control explanation or a tutorial would help me understand the controls. Like i understood that it was WASD and arrows, thats very intuitive, but I didn't get how to direct my shooting and that i could hold down and how to get health/ energy. That being said I loved how the controls worked really much. Epsecially details like the juicy screenshake, or that you kept some drift inertia after leaving the key. Maybe i didn't understand the game well enough, but i found it really difficult to survive for a long time, as the energgy drained so quickly. And was there audio? If so i couldn't hear any. You really did a great job with the controls and the overall polish. The visual style was very pleasing to look at and innovative with the pink shade for the background space. Would have loved to play longer, if i'd only manage to survive longer XD Nice entry
Edit: And also, had some performance issues. Don't know if you heard of this, but if you make movement and enemies dependant on deltatime, they will move at the same speed, regardless of on what device you play and how good that device is
Cool graphics. Would benefit from some music and sound effects though
Cool little game! I personally found the controls a little too twitchy for my taste but I'm sure people are into it. I also found the combination of the background, tiny projectiles and scrolling made me almost cross-eyed and I couldn't play for more then a couple of minutes without getting dizzy. Having the camera smoothly follow the player might help with this, as would increasing the contrast (especially value contrast) between the background and the projectiles. Even though it is blue on pink (high color contrast) they are the same value basically (put a black and white filter over to see) so it is hard to distinguish. Obviously there was a lot going on that I didn't experience and it looked like a really cool game so I don't mean to sound so negative, I actually thought it was really cool and ambitious. Audio would also help a lot but its a jam game so I understand. Good job!
Neat! I think the difficulty is tuned about right; yes it's hard, but it's hard in a way that you can improve at and see your distance going up, without indefinite survival ever becoming easy. The art is nice, the movement/shooting are solid. It got old faster than I got good at it, I think because nothing really changes any distance out. Definitely more fun than I expect from a jam game anyway!
Pretty cool simple twin stick shooter, I liked the choice of colors in the screenshots but when actually playing it was actually surprisingly hard to see what's happening, maybe part of the problem was being bombarded immediately on start.
Very nice and neat gameplay
Graphics is minimalistic but fits perfectly
Nice game! I got about 26,000ly before running out of fuel. The controls feel great (with a gamepad) and I like how the fuel doesn't go down when I'm not moving. Some sound would have improved the game, even just some simple explosion and powerup sound effects generated with sfxr.
Unique and compelling art style -- never seen outer space portrayed this way but it works and was visually interesting.
Snappy controls and some fun dogfights!
For critique I'd say that it could feel a bit aimless when it doesn't matter what direction I go -- but the arrow toward fuel was a GREAT feature to include and prevents a lot of feelbad hopelessness because I have a goal.
Nice entry! Add some sound to match the nice visuals and it'll really start coming alive.
