LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Space?Space!SPACE by Meta-link 2021-04-28T22:42:21Z

Nicely balanced twin-stick. I enjoyed the art style and how responsive the ship is. The little bit of inertia when changing directions was a nice touch.

Dimensions by Tarcisiotm 2021-04-27T20:24:19Z

A good platform-puzzler with smooth controls. I enjoyed the different dimensions, including the 'dark' one. It would be nice to see some indicator for what dimension you're on and where you can move on that axis.

Volcanaclimber by niksg 2021-04-27T01:24:27Z

That was fun and atmospheric! Moving the hands was really sensitive though, had to turn the dpi on my mouse way down to avoid jack-knifing the lantern into the roof. Maybe this is a rare case where mouse smoothing would be preferred? Once I got used to it and tuned my mouse, I enjoyed the rock-climbing feel. The music was chill too.

Just Call Your Mom by willjardine 2021-04-27T16:13:35Z

An interesting beat-em-up. Just add a 'block' ability and you have a great start! I liked the hand-drawn style of the art, with the occasion image thrown in haha. Nice music, although I'd have expected something a little darker for the theme. The little "pow" particles/sprites for landing hits were a nice touch and made it clear when I was being hit and when I was just out of range.

Alien Dig Invasion by Rawrasaur 2021-04-27T03:06:57Z

Reminds me of Motherlode a lot. I liked the idea, alien invasion for taking all the hidden resources. Sadly, there isn't enough copper(?) to finish the first task, so most of the game isn't available, at least on my play through. The little alien guy looked hilarious though, and the ores(?) looked liked they belonged where they were. A good showing!

Burilka Pump by abvadabra 2021-04-27T01:50:57Z

That's an awesome puzzle game. It'd be great if one of the power-ups was a 'hand' expansion (not sure if there was one and I just never rolled it). I kept having 2 pumps in my hand and only one pipe. The difficulty felt good; I only lost after I made it through many of the blue tile lines, but I was always a little worried.

Deeper into Carnage by Zelberor 2021-04-27T21:13:02Z

Pretty fun, made it to depth 104 before deciding to move on. Enemies are pretty tanky and it took a little while to get used to the aim point; shotgun archery! lol.

The gameplay was simple but that's ok. Chasing the pink powerups and spam clicking to minigun all the enemies was super fun.

RogueRally by ComicSans 2021-04-27T03:55:05Z

A nice puzzle game! I liked how all of the art fit together and the audio added a chill vibe. I could see adding more obstacles and dangers to the game, maybe with new cards to overcome them. Upgrade paths are always nice too. Special shoutout to the procedural generation; it made interesting levels that weren't insane, quite the feat for a game jam!

Swarm Crawl by YetRecallLaw 2021-04-27T02:33:16Z

@whysguy52 Goes forever, or until your computer melts haha. After the first two levels, it adds 2 rooms to each level, slowly making it bigger as you go down.

Swarm Crawl by YetRecallLaw 2021-04-27T14:05:38Z

@lucassivolella Ah, yeah the particle effects run on the GPU, so if you don't have a graphics card, then your poor CPU has to do all that work on it's integrated chip. Sorry about that.

Deep down the Abyss by Kyrios 2021-04-27T04:27:50Z

Excellent art and audio, it all connected and fit the game perfectly. I beat the second god and got the end music, nicely done. I still don't really know what stab/insult/curse do, I'm guessing they removed some of the god's actions like it was doing to me, but I'm not 100%. I think stab was the "you are more damaged now" option, not sure about curse/insult. If this came with a full story mode, I'd definitely pick it up on Steam.

DOWN - The Descend by InsanityCode 2021-04-28T03:56:47Z

Sadly, it throws an unhandled exception just after starting the game. Nice music though. Here's the stack trace it gave me:

See the end of this message for details on invoking just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

DOWN - The Descend by InsanityCode 2021-04-28T04:12:28Z

UPDATE: The issue is with the x64 version. I downloaded the x86 one just to see and it works (I'm running 64-bit windows). Looking at the Loaded Assemblies from the above stacktrace, it looks like all of them were the 32-bit versions for some reason, that's probably the issue.

For the actual game, I loved the music! It was fun blowing up the robot/machine gun things with the rocket launcher. The game has a nice old-school feel to it. The procedural generation was alright, guessing it was a few hand-made sections randomly selected and repeated but that's ok. Getting to blast never ending baddies at high speed with some growling rock in the background never gets old.

Swab the Deck! by dans17 2021-04-29T00:17:41Z

Awesome! Gives me strong FTL vibes, but on the high seas. The visuals worked together wonderfully and the sound design complemented the theme and set the mood. If you went on to develop a full version of the game, perhaps with an endless mode or more "sectors", I can see myself losing a lot of time to it.

Lucky Adventurer by Huntrox 2021-04-28T22:31:58Z

The pixel art looks really good! The skeletons are pretty hard to kill; I had trouble getting past the big group of them. A fun start for a platformer/beat-em-up.

We have to dig deeper by Lisichka 2021-04-28T13:34:09Z

Great art style! The slimes really seem like they glow. The attacking is pretty clunky though; sometimes when I face the monster and click, the knife appears but the crosshair part doesn't and the slime spams me with damage. A decent LD entry.

Inner Pieces by Eckkert 2021-04-27T03:32:15Z

It took a second to figure out how to navigate, but once I picked blue and stuck with it, I was able to get around easily. The mood is very strong, a little creepy and surreal. Although there wasn't a lot of audio, what was there was perfect, making most of the mood come through and combining with the wispy art style well. It was a short experience, but a atmospheric and relaxing one. I'd play the full version when it comes out on Steam.

Down To Hell by IkerNoya 2021-04-27T03:22:29Z

Rip and Tear! How did DoomGuy make it into Ludum Dare? However it happened, I'm glad he brought the electric guitar with him, and that shotgun.

The death animations were simple but good. The first time I killed a demon, it felt really good, almost physics based. Maybe it was random chance but it stood out to me. A had a lot of fun. The second level has a big difficulty spike though. It took me a couple of tries to get past it.

Tank Knight: LD48 Tactics by KyleTheCoder 2021-04-27T02:53:30Z

A nice tactical game. There are a surprising number of abilities you can pick up as you go -- a few too many it turns out. I had to quit the game because I got too many abilities and couldn't end my turn :(. A strong start to be sure. I can imagine adding in light RPG elements and having different builds. I enjoyed using ice storm and then sprinting into a group of frozen enemies. Some more mobility options would be perfect.

Inferno Dominus by Klyaddus 2021-04-27T02:29:39Z

A good first showing. Most of the criticism I have is pretty obvious stuff like lack of objectives or interaction beyond movement and shooting effects. The sound design was great though! Loved the music and the effects. The art was decent; the different models seemed like they were made in different styles though.

Deeper Into The Forest by siberpunk01 2021-04-29T00:27:11Z

A simple, pretty platformer. The lighting effects were splendid! Is that a normal part of GameMaker these days? Either way, it was well done and set the darker mood. Nice use of sfxr/bfxr sound effects. The third level has a steep difficulty spike; I couldn't make it past most of the wasps without getting hit, but made it to the end anyways with a sliver of health left. A good showing, all told.

Hyperspace Narwhale by styrofoamwaffle 2021-04-27T20:07:05Z

Great job! Nice visual effects and art style. It was subtle, but I saw that slight distortion in the background pulse with the beat haha. The controls were highly responsive; I enjoyed blasting space-jellies with the power of meme-magic.

Wagon Stack! by daquxxn 2021-04-27T02:13:47Z

Too on-rails, 0/10. Jokes aside, that was a fun game. Never did figure out what the different colored carts did, probably nothing because this is a game jam. I can imagine taking the game further with different carts and pickups. Maybe a store to buy different powerups, carts, extra lives (although I never lost a life, don't know if that's a thing...). Different environments, mobile obstacles, you can take it in all kinds of directions. The music and sound effects were a nice touch, probably what kept me playing.

Nautilus: Gestation by Perpetua Franck 2021-04-29T00:49:20Z

I loved the game's atmosphere. The art style and the ambient-sounding music worked together to set a slightly creepy mood. I'm not sure if I made it to the end or not; I could still shoot and hear the effect, but everything was dark and I couldn't move. A good showing for the jam!
