This game is beautiful and reminds me "ori" - a game that i like very much. i became a little upset for no soundtrack at all, but the game is simple, intuitive, and has a little story.

Sometimes the frame rate droped a little - and for some enemies, was impossible for me do not get damage.

but that said, would like very much to play un update if you mean to do it. My best regards and congrats on the good work.

A simple, pretty platformer. The lighting effects were splendid! Is that a normal part of GameMaker these days? Either way, it was well done and set the darker mood. Nice use of sfxr/bfxr sound effects. The third level has a steep difficulty spike; I couldn't make it past most of the wasps without getting hit, but made it to the end anyways with a sliver of health left. A good showing, all told.

vknauss 2021-04-29 00:28

The graphics were super solid! It was a short game but it really shows a lot of polish

jarmustard 2021-04-29 00:31

The art is cute and it's overall very atmospheric. The gameplay is pretty basic but totally functional. Nice work~

matterlinx 2021-04-29 00:32

Great graphics. I really liked the lighting!

phil-lesnar 2021-04-29 00:41

Fun play, and I enjoyed the character designs. The little twist at the end was a delightful surprise.

crychair 2021-04-29 00:56

Would love to see more content to play for longer. Great art and mood, would love to get some music and mixing added in.

megalukes 2021-04-30 15:08

Great mood and art in this game. Atmospheric was key in this one! Loved it!

conrad123 2021-05-01 23:56

Simple and clean, really well done! Almost too clean - I agree that there could've been more content. More of a backstory would've helped with that as well. But for a small scope the game is really beautiful! Good job!

nsadie 2021-05-02 06:42

Nice game! Some of the jumps are pretty difficult and I got a bit frustrated with restarting completely if I died. But the art is nice and it was fun to play.

siberpunk01 2021-05-02 23:27

@lrvstudios We were intending to add music, but ran out of time. Thanks for the compliment about Ori! It wasn't an inspiration for the design, but looking back I can kind of see how it might bring up that feeling. The lighting system is pretty intensive, and I didn't have time to optimize. If we ever revisit it though we'll be optimizing it and adjusting collisions for the enemies.

siberpunk01 2021-05-02 23:30

@yetrecalllaw The lighting system is not built into GMS2. The base of it was a plugin that someone else made, but I had to adjust it a lot to get the effect we were looking for. We spent so much time with lighting that we didn't notice the difficulty spike until after we had submitted.

siberpunk01 2021-05-02 23:32

@vknauss Thanks for playing! The polished look is mostly due to the artist. She made lots of art super fast.

siberpunk01 2021-05-02 23:35

@jarmustard Thanks for playing. Yeah I felt like the art and lighting came together, but we didn't have any more time to add other mechanics. I really wish we would have had time to add something to make the game play more unique. Maybe we'll revisit it sometime.

siberpunk01 2021-05-02 23:37

@matterlinx Thanks for playing! We worked a while on the lighting to get the effect we wanted. It ate up a lot of our dev time in the jam but I think it was worth it.

siberpunk01 2021-05-02 23:39

@phil-lesnar Thanks for playing! We weren't sure if we could get the story in because of time, but we thought even just a little would help it feel like more of an overall experience.

siberpunk01 2021-05-02 23:41

@crychair We really wanted to add a few more levels but ran out of time. If we revisit it, we'll definitely be adding music, more levels, and better sound effects.

siberpunk01 2021-05-02 23:43

@megalukes Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it.

siberpunk01 2021-05-02 23:46

@conrad123 We appreciate the kind words. After rushing for the 3 days I'm so surprised when people compliment how clean it came out. It just seemed like such a jumble until the very last few minutes. Yeah we will probably expand the story a little and add some additional levels if we go back to it.

siberpunk01 2021-05-02 23:49

@nsadie Sorry about the difficulty. The collisions with the enemies need to be adjusted and I think we'll probably change it so to that you restart a level instead of the entire game if we decide to update it. It wasn't meant to be so punishing, but we didn't realize those issues until we were already submitted.

woahitsjeff 2021-05-03 02:42

This was super cool. LOVED the graphics, very beautiful. I fully expected Ori to show up and help at some point - the execution was really good. Thanks for sharing! Well done

boclow 2021-05-03 06:59

Lovely art! I liked the simple sound effects and it was quite clear most of the time what to do. Game felt really slow and jump was floaty, but that might have been just my slow computer. Nice simple game.

siberpunk01 2021-05-04 01:10

@woahitsjeff Thank you for the compliments! Glad you liked it. We didn't take direct inspiration from Ori, but we take it as a compliment. I feel like I need to check that game out now.

siberpunk01 2021-05-04 01:14

@boclow Yeah I was programming the game on my desktop and didn't realize how much power was being used to do the lighting system. When I switched to my 10 year old laptop to upload the game and test the installer, I was like "ohhhh, that's not good". We were out of time though. If we go back to it I think I can streamline it to make it run smoother with less power.

noteworthy 2021-05-04 07:10

Interesting game! the art style looks really nice, I dig the hand drawn assets. The jumping was a little flighty and the fact that you reset the game upon death is unfortunate. It would be cool to see this game polished, good entry!

bobafett89 2021-05-04 19:59

Good game! Art style and mood are great, though it would be better to add some more invincibility frames after hit, and add more impact from hit. Well done!

jose-bonilla 2021-05-05 16:14

The graphics are beautiful. The game does feel slow (movement itself and the floaty jumps) and there are some killing bugs (I managed to get stuck twice into a platform). If you fix the bugs and improve movement you might have a nice platformer concept to work on, that could become something much better in the near future! Keep it up.

eoshadows 2021-05-06 00:39

Nice game! The graphics were really good, and I liked the ending - nice plot twist! I had to restart at one point because the player damage animation got me clipped and stuck into a platform, but other than that this game was pretty good. Well done!

siberpunk01 2021-05-07 01:31

@noteworthy Thank you for the compliments! The shadow system definitely needs to be optimized. It takes a lot of power and causes the jumps to feel kind of floaty at times. Sorry about the death punishment. We didn't realize there were actually some hard bits and just left it to reset the game on death.

siberpunk01 2021-05-07 01:35

@jose-bonilla @eoshadows Thank you both for playing! There is a problem with the player's collision box that in some circumstances can get you stuck to a platform. Sorry! I thought I had fixed it so it couldn't happen anymore. I'll definitely need to look at that again.

siberpunk01 2021-05-08 01:09

@bobafett89 Thanks! I agree about the invincibility frames. There is about a half second invincibility window right now, but it still needs some work. When you say "add more impact from a hit", do you mean add more screen shake or more damage or more bounce back from the danger object?

bobafett89 2021-05-08 11:41

@siberpunk01 To add more impact from hit, i think you should make a bounce back a little further, also it feels like character just teleporting, not bouncing.

tris250 2021-05-08 16:46

On your game, I got stuck in a wall while taking damage from the lianas.

Captureerreur.PNG

tris250 2021-05-08 16:47

Otherwise the game is very good, the graphic styles of the character and the background go very well together, it gives a very nice rendering.

siberpunk01 2021-05-09 01:03

@tris250 Thank you for playing and your feedback! Sorry for the bug. There is some bounce when damaged, and unfortunately right now it can bounce you inside of a wall. I know how to fix it, but didn't have time. I guess we're not supposed to keep updating the game until voting is over?

siberpunk01 2021-05-09 01:09

@bobafett89 I see what you mean. Yeah the current setup is just moving the player's position instantly away on a hit (teleportation). I think adjusting and updating this will improve game feel. I'll also take another look at the bounce distance. Great feedback!

bitsandcrafts 2021-05-09 17:47

very solid entry. awesome overall. GJ

retro-banana-man-nl 2021-05-15 19:16

Nice game, it seemed a bit dark at some points. It made it very hard to see where platforms were. Overall a solid entry, great job!

siberpunk01 2021-05-17 01:56

@retro-banana-man-nl Thanks for playing! Yeah the idea was that the deeper you get into the forest, the darker it would get, so you would need to hurry and pick up the stars to increase the player's light (and field of view). We didn't have time to adjust the light ranges though so it gets pretty tough once it's fully dark.
