Tension by JustinMullin 2021-04-26T13:09:58Z
I liked the mood of it. The spooky wind / ambient sound was a nice touch. The narrator/speech voice sound as also a little creepy which was good. The grapple mechanic felt good. Good work!

Really great. I liked your tiles -- the art style was fun and colorful. You had some great detail touches: the screen zoom and circle wipe between levels, the animation on the drill/door, the character animation on death. The sounds were minimal but fit well with your game. The mechanic was nice as well. I think you did a great job.
Neat concept - this was an imaginative take on the theme. The animation when a singer slides down in to the empty square beneath was satisfying. I think it might have been nice to have some sort of a highlight on the column your shovel is currently over. That way you know for sure which column you will dig when hitting the dig action.
I really liked the small details: the slight squashing of the player character when you fire, the ammo you gain flying back to the player to be collected. When hitting the exploding blocks, the reaction is very satisfying. I also liked the inventive mechanic of combining firing with the player jump/upward movement. Great work!
Nice visuals and great ambient sound/music. I liked how tranquil it sounded. I noticed that the "Dive" button can be hit by the diver before starting the game. Is that an intentional easter-egg? Also liked the oxygen refill / bubble mechanic. Nice work!
I love the cartoony graphics. I also like the way you added the upgrade mechanic to make the game have a bit more depth (no pun intended)! Great submission -- I liked trying it.
Great job -- I really liked your music / audio design. That really added to the mood. I think a few variations on the sprites would make the levels more interesting. Although the jump mechanic was a little different, having the jumps be so long seemed to add to the tension and matched the feel of the game, so I think that was a good call. Great work making your first game from scratch. I enjoyed playing it. Hope to see what you come up with for future events.
Got stuck for a bit in the room where you enter a two digit code -- finally figured out what two digit number should have immediately come to mind :). The audio and music really added to the mood of the game. When the music loops there's a slight hitch where the end of the loop doesn't match up to the beginning. Very innovative ideas. Good work!
The sound effects were good -- I also liked how the timing of drilling through the different types of blocks was implemented. Nice work!
Neat and inventive concept -- I like how you used sound to complement the gameplay. Really nice to see a fresh take on the theme. The pixel art was very nice.
I love the idea of an old-school inform/text adventure game. Short, but a good start. "Sometimes the Ancients didn't know what they were talking about...." :) Thanks for submitting!
I like your falling rock mechanic and the hose reel-out. Nice start at a dig-dug clone. Maybe taking something about the original game and twisting it a bit would make for a fresh take on it. Thanks for submitting.
The low-poly style was fun and looked great. I like how you worked in a short tutorial in the first two screens of play rather than just describing how to play in words. The music was minimal but fit well with the game and definitely added something. Puzzle games take a lot of thought to put together. Great work!
Great work on the sprites. The sound effects worked well with the game. I liked how the backdrop (a falling elevator car) made it feel more dynamic. I had trouble getting the Web version to work, but Windows version worked fine. The music was simple, but well suited to the game. It had a great look. Good work!
Haven't seen many resource management games submitted -- good job coming up with an innovative concept. Good work on the controls -- pretty intuitive. One suggestion on the settlers -- may want a way to see that multiple settlers are "stacked" in the same location. Very inventive! some sounds would be a great addition, but still overall great work -- I enjoyed checking it out.
I like how the black and white graphics add to the mood. Neat idea for game mechanics. Sound would be a great addition. Great work, thanks for submitting it!
I like the frantic music -- matches well with the game. It may just be that I'm no good ad bullet-hell type games, but I couldn't get anywhere near the witch! Thanks for posting it.
I liked the creepy audio -- added to the mood. Thanks for submitting!
I liked how you had some recoil to the laser. The more powered up you are (and the larger the laser) the more push back the player gets when firing. Really made the firing mechanic satisfying. Very inventive. Good work.
Nice twist using the limited number of jump or dash per level. The art style was fun. One suggestion: would be handy to have a reset button when you make a mistake in the level and know you aren't going to make it to the end. Just killing off the character works just as well, but I kept thinking I'd like to just hit R or something to reset the level and try again. Great work!
@vederant Yes, I agree! The bubbles aren't obviously distinct from the hazards. Would have been nice if I'd have made them translucent as well. Thanks for your comments.
Thanks for the comments, @gimbalock. Yes, I should have had the sub nearer the top of the window. I think I'll tweak that after the event when I add some more enemy variants, some power-ups, and some music. First time submission to Ludum Dare and I'm a little surprised how rewarding it was to force yourself to finish something.
A nice modern take on the text adventure. I liked the mood and the puzzle difficulty seemed well tuned. I didn't make it to the end yet, but I think I'll revisit it. Nice writing.
A really interesting look. I liked the trail -- almost like a cape after the characters. The music was a nice addition. I'm wondering if the feel might be even better with a little tweaking on how the jump mechanic works... I felt like I got stuck in areas which slowed down the gameplay. A really neat, inventive take!
Really liked the character designs. I was a little confused as to the goal, but caught on after a while. Nice work.
Nice work! I like the pixel art. The sound effects are a good match for the game -- I like how the missile sound effect precedes the missile appearing so you know you'll need to dodge. Although it might change the difficulty, I think it might feel more satisfying if the asteroids break apart with each shot rather than requiring multiple shots. Might make it feel more exciting. I like that you chose a space theme -- there weren't a lot of games that went that way so that was creative. Great job!
The colors were fun and cheerful. I like that there were a variety of objects on the playfield. Nice start. Good work giving it a try -- thanks for the effort.
Great artwork. I really like the concept of the mirror / double-sided puzzle. The slowly darkening room really makes you keep moving. Great work!
I liked your inventive take on the theme. The polygon style made me think of the Sega Saturn days of virtua racer, etc! The flight mechanic took some getting used to, but I really liked how it looked. Good call adding the travel lines that arc toward you as you fly. These helped me get re-oriented when I flew off track. Great work!
