Very cool concept, like an underwater tower defense sorta thing. I didn't make it very far before I ran out of food, and I was always short on plastic! But I could see this growing into a really legit game. Nice work.
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD48 → Deepwater Settlement

Haven't seen many resource management games submitted -- good job coming up with an innovative concept. Good work on the controls -- pretty intuitive. One suggestion on the settlers -- may want a way to see that multiple settlers are "stacked" in the same location. Very inventive! some sounds would be a great addition, but still overall great work -- I enjoyed checking it out.
Nice game, I've always really liked settlement games like these. I was finding it a little difficult to get enough food to make it past the first 3 layers, but overall nice job.
Awesome idea! Although I found the controls a little bit buggy and the arpoon texture was missing so it looked pink. Cool game anyways
I liked the game I think its fun but some new mechanics would be very well.
i really liked it! i kept starving unfortunately, but i liked the strategy of putting settlers in different places to see different fish spawns
@kristinamay @john-harper @benjamin123 @rufusdrop @scienitive Thanks for the feedback and suggestions.
@john-harper I noticed the stacked settler problem too. I was going to have them wander left/right, but I had to cut many corners. Thanks for that.
For future players, you'll get the most plastic in the top layer fish, and the more and more food as you go deeper.
@squigglez Thanks for the feedback. Starving seems to be a common comment. The game needs some balancing.
A very good concept! I really enjoyed it. All the game need is a rebalancing in terms of material and maybe some new mechanics. Good job
Interesting idea, different from most games I saw so far! Has a few rough edges, but generally it is well done, too!
I managed to get to the bottom!
Some random comments:
* It took me some time to understand that I can fix rooms. * It seems I was always short of plastics, maybe some additional balancing would be great (but I empathize, I never left much time to work on balancing on my Ludum Dare games) * Two times I had to restart because apparently the camera went lost or something like that. * Building rooms sideways seemed useless to me. * The game felt shallow (joke intended, offense not intended!), there seems to be one optimal strategy, which doesn't give much space to making interesting decisions while playing (case in point: why bother building sideways?). _But_ I kept thinking that with an additional mechanic or two this game could become _really_ interesting. * The game doesn't benefit at all from being 3D. You could probably do a 2D version in less time and use these extra hours for balancing and adding this mechanic or two. (Of course, you want to learn/practice/work in 3D that's fine! I just don't think it is the best choice for this game.)
Hey, and congrats for your fifth Ludum Dare in a row!
@voxel-forest Thanks. I'm glad you liked it! It definitely needs.. more.
@lmb Thanks for taking so much time to play my game. I appreciate all of this feedback. I cut so many corners that I must agree that I'd have done so much more in 2d. Also, I appreciate a good pun :)
Great stuff and im impressed this was done in only 48 hours. It certainly could have been expanded on but with only 2 days you did what you could. I also had the camera bug and the no plastic text spamming. Anyway Good job.
Yay, earth found! Now i'm waiting for my money :-p Nice and original idea, really actual since catching fish gives you plastic. I would have liked to have more than 10 castaways because after I won I was still expanding my "base" with harpoons co catch more fish :-D Well done, i liked the game!
Nice work!
After launching million harpoons on poor sea flora
Pros:
- Underwater tower-defense-ish-survival game! - Like the fish models - Easy to understand mechanics and controls - Fishing gives you plastic, *heh, ironic*
Cons:
- I feel like the game needs a bit more of: - Weapons - Sounds - Feeling of progression (it's there, just make it more rewarding)
Other than that, keep up the good work!
Of the management style games I have played so far this jam, this one is my favorite. Very satisfying almost idle game mechanic. Would have love to see some more complex rooms that synergized with rooms next to it. Like a room that made the search speed of harpoons connected to it faster. Awesome concept and would love to see it taken further.
I liked the graphics :)
The text would appreciate to be more contrast to the background.
Also some sounds would be nice.
I wasn't sure whether it is good when a fish started to go fast to the harpoon. Then I figured out that it means that it is being caught by the harpoon-man and it is a good thing therefore.
I would found the food indicator better as a gauge or a bar than just a number. Also somehow highlighted whether I have enough materials to build a new room/harpoon.
Is there some advantage to have more rooms on the same level? I didn't find any. Just one room + 2 harpoons seems like the optimal strategy.
What is the difference between citizens and castaways? I would call them the same for more clarity.
A button for starting the game again would be useful.
Thank you for making it, it was fun :)
