Hey man, it's pretty cool!
This could made even better if you add some indication to what blocks do lava/gas and which ones dont. That way players can strategize better on how to dig through the level. Right now you just dig into a block and you immediately lose health because you didn't know it was dangerous. Otherwise you guys did a good job!
the scene is just a bit too dark for me, but other than that it is awesome
That camera really contributed to the games feel. When you take longer to drill certain areas it felt so good. Chillary Stank is proud
Untitled.png I'll never forget that face
Nor should you forget that face. That's the face of a hero!
Scene is a bit dark and the light lags behind the drill when moving full speed. That combined with the fact that the "danger" blocks use the same texture as dirt but shifted ~5% means it feels sort of arbitrary when you get punished for drilling into one of the danger blocks.
The soundtrack is good, repetetive but not annoying. The sounds fulfill their purpose. The graphics are fine, the graphics for the story part were hilarious.
The story itself is - well nearly the same story as the Movie "the core", but thats fine, we have a good reason to drill into the earth.
We have 5 different triles, each of them fulfills their purpose. I found a "trick" to not go out of energy.
So we have to make some strategic decisions, while playing the game, which adds some kind of depth - wich is good.
Sadly i have not seen the bomb explosion - so i don't know if you have any nice animation or as you said "crappy" art for the story :D
As the map is randomly generated, the game has a replayability potential.
Neat game. One could win with more time on the clock, but here is my highscore:

@akronsus Its amazing that you got back up in under 2 minutes.
@eric-smith yeah, the first time i tried ~10 blocks befor the finish line I ran out of energy. Second try I drilled straight down, mining crystals left and right but always returning to my path, then I just drove upwards again xD
@akronsus Very good strategy! Thanks for sharing.
Great idea! Gave it a few tries but unfortunately, couldn't get even to the middle. It's a pretty simple concept and very well executed and fun to play. With more diversity in block and ore types it would really good!
Liked the atmospheric music and sounds. Art and story were quite funny but actually, really well done.
Great job! Enjoyed playing it!
@akronsus I used your strategy! Screenshot 2021-04-27 155940.jpg
THAT DOCTOR IN THE START! HEAHEAHEAEHAHEAHEAHEA
Loved the reference! I really liked that movie! The "power stones" are really well distributed! The dangerous patchs are a little hard to see, and the level is a little to long in my opinion, but Really enjoyed the game!!!
@angrysandwich Thanks! Glad you liked it.
Nice idea with this. I like the way you handled drilling in, with the sound effect and pause of motion, really nice feedback
Noooooo !firefox_AyU2NaKwyN.png
That's a fun game ! I never managed to get to the bottom, I keep getting out of fuel at around 3/4 of the way.But I like the concept and it's well executed ! Even there are a lot of mining games in this jam, you managed to find an original plot around it, so GG !
Nice game! Got out with 3:05 left too @eric-smith :D
If we only knew there was so much unobtaininium in the Earth's crust, we would not have to spend all that money on the shameless copying of Pocahontas' plot, errrr... sorry..., on the Avatar project and going to Pandora!
I loved the writing in the intro - you can always win me over with making fun of movie disasters  And the game itself was quite fun. The controls are solid and responsive, tileset is pleasant and informative. Although the dimmer tiles could be even dimmer to be easier to spot. But, on the other hand, the dimness level was probably calculated, so I would fall into traps!
I enjoyed the game overall and the earth is safe for another day!

Very nice game! I like the idea of having to go back using your own tunnels, that's very clever :) maybe the game could use a bit more polished on the visual side, but that's the limitations of a game jam! The audio was on point too. Thanks for the game!
Could use a bit more variety in blocks. Also the energy gets a little too rare near the bottom.
Interesting game, well executed. Like others, I found the hazard dirt to be too close in color to the regular dirt, and I almost never spotted it. Gameplay is simple, but it is presented well, and everything works and flows smoothly. Music is nice. As a geology professor, I have to say it is not the most accurate representation of the Earth, but neither was The Core.
Incredible game! A lot of fun, well polished, simple mechanics and straight to the topic ... great job!
Definitely a little too long!! Losing after like 8 minutes of drilling isn't really my favorite thing but good execution for sure! The different tile types added lots of well-needed variety (even if I wasn't really too sure what gas pockets were at first haha), the music was fine, and it stuck to the theme well while still doing something unique.
Nice game, and I like the backtracking mechanic - useful on the way back.
The sound effects were good -- I also liked how the timing of drilling through the different types of blocks was implemented. Nice work!
I think the danger tiles could've been signaled more as danger, instead of just a slightly darker shade of dirt, but other than that, pretty solid
I really wanted to see what happened when that little red line got to the bottom, was not disappointed! The idea of effectively building a maze that you had to navigate back out of was really clever. Enjoyed very much, thanks for making this!
Neat! Love the intro cutscene :D. Game is fun. Music and sounds fit well. I did think the color of the hazards was a bit too close to the color of dirt tiles but after a while you start to notice it. Great idea! Well done!
Hilarious intro cut scene. I got to the bottom barely surviving and was not ready to make my way back up. Didn't get anywhere clos. Guess I'll have to try again another time. Decent game. Thanks for the entry I had fun playing.
Solid. Good concept, easy to understand, and well executed. I wish it was a bit clearer what each rock/ore/dirt did. But, I once I got the hang of it all was well. That cut scene... haha
I wasn't expecting the idea of backtracking once you plant the nuke at the core.. session.PNG
Very very close.. (based on 2nd play) Welp, after 3rd run, I finally made it back! Best Strat. for that case is to drill straight down and only branch when you are perpendicular towards those blue (fuel-crystals). Those Lava Tiles are quite unpredictable on its spread (leading to diverge the path)..(I was thinking at first encounter it triggered the 'floor-of-death' sequence.. Funny Prologue/Story Suggestions:
1. Have Tiles collapse (like Boulder Dash / Mr.Driller for that extra depth of difficulty) 2. Perhaps Drill Cooldown (chance of Overheat for rapid consecutive direction of drilling) 3. Water into the mix: encounter pockets of water, may aid on overheat but its surrounding tiles turn to mud/clay or water collide lava to turn to obsidian [very very stubborn?] (changes to stubborn tiles) 4. after a run or two I get to see that semi-tinged tile that's likely to be that 'toxic-green cloud', would be neat to have a RNG for 'layers' of those tiles but sometimes it's either the cloud or it's a 'gravel-tile' a speed bonus of descending double the tiles (like a 'Gravel' effect from Minecraft), and cloud tiles slightly spread or eventually move within couple of turns..
Neat!
