LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Eat Prey Live by mrnyarlathotep 2021-04-26T11:27:26Z

It's pretty cool, the mood is excellent. I feel like there shouldn't be an edge to the map, a loop perhaps. It's very chill and it'd be fun to have autopilot and just watch the medusa go around, the smooth movements are the best part but the controls felt a little dull. Great idea though!

Deep Fall by ben657 2021-04-26T12:39:57Z

The pose of the character is truly inspiring, I envy their willingness to ...open to whatever is coming. And transition into iron man is epic. Very fun little game. The design of the tunnel reminds me of an old DOS game Stunts, where you could design your own tunnels with similar-looking barriers.

Jackhammer Uncle by good.enough 2021-04-26T11:21:18Z

Exactly what the doctor ordered, a jet-powered jackhammer. The sound of popping the purple monster is pure gold, you must have had a lot of fun making the game, didn't you :)

Gardner Lake by AdonisDevs 2021-04-26T11:13:37Z

Well a very original idea... loved the bubblewrap-like popping although my mouse probably didn't ;) Unfortunately the game softlocked for me after fighting the red-eyed ... thing (almost fell off my chair BTW). I think with more content (gear icons? depth map?) and variety of encounters it could be a very interesting experience. A bit sad I didn't get to solve the mystery!

all the king's men by otresnjak 2021-04-25T23:08:45Z

Pretty cool game, "it's nice to meet you ;)"

Ancient Civilizations by ForeverTrash 2021-04-26T04:23:04Z

Love the sampled sounds!

To the Core by Eric Smith 2021-04-25T22:55:56Z

Hey man, it's pretty cool!

Ventil Of View by ArtoniX 2021-04-26T02:47:01Z

Love the concept and mood, although gameplay is a little hard to figure out!

The Deep Web by William Corrin 2021-04-26T07:55:53Z

I love the Tron vibe. I was initially longing for more speed and easier turns although once I got the hang of the drift mode (that's what they call handbrakes in the future, eh?) the game really started to "flow" which is awesome if one can sustain a clean run. The fact you can turn in place is a nice lighthearted touch. From technical standpoint it'd be great to have a FOV slider (to make it wider) since quite sharp/rubbery camera moves in fullscreen do get a little disorienting.

Coal Mine: Terrorist Takedown by exewin 2021-04-26T11:36:26Z

When I thought I've cleared all the terrorists then ... level two! Great effort, a lot of design. I noticed one small glitch perhaps (in the web version) is that normally the gun fires quite slowly (1 per second or so) but at some point it started firing twice as fast, then going back to slow shortly later (I'd prefer for an automatic gun and just go into slayer mode). Or was it some kind of power up? Good fun, some climatic music would be a great addition!

Dwarven Descent by Chumzy 2021-04-26T03:00:38Z

Skeleton graphics is gold! I wish there was a grappling hook though, that'd make for some good slaying.

Sleepwalker by Duncan 3 2021-04-26T03:05:50Z

An awesome piece, nice spin on the Portal concept. Gets tough really quickly as well. Well done!

Bat and Spider Cavern by Greg the Egg 2021-04-26T12:54:35Z

Fun game, I found the "circular spray" strategy works really well, although once you get deep and things get quite dark is anyone's game. Good effort.

Reach That Point by Dmitry Mozgin 2021-04-26T03:13:37Z

Love the idea and the physics implementation. Backtracking is a bit of a chore, perhaps some "cheat" mechanism where you have limited stretching power would be nice to get less patient players through the game.

Johnny Debt by haztro 2021-04-26T02:43:43Z

The strategy wasn't immediately obvious to me... no way to make money? Just debt yourself deeper and deeper into oblivion?

STRAIGHT INTO HELL by DeliciousSalad 2021-04-26T02:54:01Z

Love the simple idea, "how have I not seen this one coming!". Also, music rocks.

Crypto-mine Disaster by Doc Kaos 2021-04-26T02:40:35Z

Love the intensity!

Miner Rescue by mausimus 2021-04-26T02:48:28Z

@greg-the-egg thanks for trying it out, yes in the web port you can use just 1/2/3 instead of F keys (it's mentioned on the page but TLDR ;)

Miner Rescue by mausimus 2021-04-26T03:15:15Z

Thanks @haztro yes the game will tell you off if you get to the end without saving anyone ;) ! @corbeng thanks for the feedback, I had to make the brake quite strong so it was possible to stop quickly to pick up miners (no reverse gear... ;)

Miner Rescue by mausimus 2021-04-26T04:08:31Z

@crocodiletuesday thank you and I sincerely hope so! If you play a few times you can discover certain... speedrunning strategies :) which is when Weight & Inertia really come into play, during casual runs they are not really a factor as players usually go slow in the beginning.

Miner Rescue by mausimus 2021-04-26T11:56:56Z

Many thanks all for the comments, I added some more emphasis on rescuing in game description! Perhaps I should have made the sound of missing a miner more obvious. And thanks for playing! @3lstmsinatrenchcoat @rouge-dragon

Miner Rescue by mausimus 2021-04-26T12:34:26Z

@good-enough Kudos for sticking to the end! As to the back story I imagined the mine would be more like a sloped tunnel, entrance on one side of the mountain and exit on the other ;)

Miner Rescue by mausimus 2021-04-27T00:25:31Z

@pixelportalz congrats! glad you got that far! in fact the right strategy is to identify which miners are worth picking up (only need one to get a score but there is time penalty of 20 seconds for each left behind) and then use ducking & balancing mechanics to go as fast as possible outside of those!

Miner Rescue by mausimus 2021-04-27T00:26:11Z

@dmitry-mozgin that was the intention, the game had to be intense! many thanks for the feedback

To The Core by Pe7e 2021-04-26T10:59:27Z

Loving the aesthetics. The music theme reminds me of a very popular TV show... last season of which never happened. I found the game weirdly addicting and stuck with it to the end, it is essentially a very nicely dressed memory puzzle. No spoilers but last two moves are in the same direction. It must have been a lot of fun to put all the graphical assets together, good job mate!

Force, Fall, Run, by AfutureV 2021-04-26T02:51:33Z

Reminds me of old sports games, i.e. joystick-killers; this one is spacebar killer!!

DigOut by Chiller 2021-04-26T04:26:54Z

Ah the realization that you don't clear the level just another line shows! Fun concept and good attempt, the web version has some issues around alignment and mouse cursor not always being captured (right-clicking sometimes brings up the menu rather than fire). I'd love a richer graphical theme.

Kill Yasuhiro by Spydercrawler 2021-04-26T02:34:43Z

Cool attempt, bro. Didn't samurai have curved swords though?

LD49 — Unstable

Take Your Meds Darling by Geckoo1337 2021-10-05T22:24:15Z

Well now I do need meds! I love unconventional entries like this, and it'd really well done - psychedelic environments, dithered shaders (!), change of orientation (mind = blown). Gameplay reminds me somewhat of "memory" levels in Max Payne... with a touch of Pacman obviously. It's a great concept with great mood, excellent job mate!

Unstable Stick by joewan 2021-10-05T11:55:09Z

Excellent game, a lot of fun. The feeling that you know you're going to die but can't do anything about it is dreadful though. BTW love the fact you recognize you've done a flip! Great retro design although the big pixels clash a bit with the "air trail". Agreed the checkpoints are quite far apart, these days the attention spans are really short, need to keep these folks playing!

Deviant by wolderado 2021-10-05T22:39:22Z

This is really cool, you put in a lot of thought into the minor details which I love like the layout and people arrangements. The aesthetics is awesome, despite the extremely low res the area looks believable. It's funny how peeps just ignore you once you move to the stable phase (unless they saw you ... i.e. they are dead ;) Am I not mistaken there is no health bar though? Excellent job mate, it was great fun.

Orbital Turbulence by Bewelge 2021-10-05T12:11:05Z

Well well well, the three body problem IRL, multiple suns... Some levels I got through with the skin of my teeth with planets bouncing as soon as timer runs out. I really like the user interface, the kick-outs and come-backs are all very smooth and easy to manipulate. Great concept for a physics puzzle, good job!

Agnosia by Ziamor 2021-10-06T02:59:53Z

Great idea of adding randomized rooms, the game would have been really good even without that. I really like the simple controls and graphics, not getting into the way. The puzzles are straightforward enough to move from one to the next. (spoilers ahead) I went into the white and then... nothing happened - is there's anything more? Very good job regardless!

Mint by Préda 2021-10-05T23:10:00Z

An incident on a spaceship, well that's my favorite backstory! Nice idea with the floating controls, it took a moment to get a grasp but I guess that's how it would have been IRL. Game graphics are pretty good, especially the ship (UI seems a little not up to scratch compared to it). Great effort overall!

Akameis by BJakubowski 2021-10-05T10:36:37Z

Really cool game, a twist on the classic sokoban. Love the voxel vibe. The controls took a bit to get used to (took me a while to realize you had the keys on the screen the whole time), I felt that many levels just let me rush through them without paying too much attention to what was going on. It was great fun however, good job!

The OffScreen by Hunk 2021-10-05T11:40:05Z

Great idea with the trippy 30s theme and the TV concept. Everything is very fitting with the music and sounds, the room in the back setting the vibe... a level of design you you don't often see here. Well done technically although I did get stuck off screen and soft locked and nothing was able to hurt me ...forever!

A Lost Light by Sodaro 2021-10-05T11:17:14Z

Nice mood, the graphics (somehow reminded me of Salad Fingers...) and the music. Controls are like in a racing game but you're a ghost. Wasn't entirely clear what the different lights mean, (spoilers ahead) but once I discovered drifting motion it was much easier to collect them. A pretty cool short, good job!

Cat Connect by Zhanna 2021-10-05T22:46:39Z

I immediately thought of the classic Alley Cat, but this much more and an interesting modern twist. Love the connection lost/glitching cat idea (Assassins' Creed desync?). The game does get really tough really quickly. The graphics are great, if anything more animation frames on the cat would be nice so it's easier to see what movement phase it's in. Good fun experience overall!

Away by Martynas 2021-10-04T10:51:09Z

Well I tried and tried, unlocked the three bars and then...? Is this some deep message I'm missing or have I just failed the final test? Love the atmosphere, a twist on the Matrix awakening. Controls take some getting used to. Spinning round like crazy is a cool feature, reminds me of Sonic (intended?). The design is pro-level.

Under P'ARRRR by Fear Games 2021-10-04T23:12:15Z

Excellent game, there's a lot of potential in the concept; it's like mini golf but better. Good graphics and lovely small touches (lmao when I saw cannon balls). I think you guys should continue working on it, with some more polish (mainly on the technical side) this could be a fun mobile game, great job.

Dominion by Shootboots 2021-10-04T08:17:50Z

Ok I won my first match but I have no idea how or why! This is very trippy, I love the fact you implemented an AI as that's a rarity on Ludum Dares. Very innovative concept, a mix of Worms, Scorched Earth and something new ... something organic. If dumbed down a bit this could easily be a hit mobile game.

DepressPnker! by SwimmableBee912 2021-10-05T11:46:48Z

Whoa, what did I just play? It's really confusing... I like the anime/power rangers design with an arcade machine vide, the smoothness of the movement, but I'd really really like to know what is going on and I am supposed to be doing!! Definitely a stand out though..!

U.N.S.T.A.B.L.E. by koalaura 2021-10-04T23:07:07Z

Hm on the third level once I start running with the sausage the game almost instantly goes back to main menu. Is that supposed to happen, are my reactions too slow? RIP mechanical keyboard btw on the first level. Love the small touches like to look on the alien's face. It is hard to work out what to do on a new level, perhaps a unified language like in Quantic Dream games would be easier to react to.

Volcano Containment by Morris 2021-10-04T11:02:14Z

What a trippy idea, I didn't realize volcano extinguishers exists. The game is very difficult though, and having to go back to where you just came from for another extinguisher is demotivating. The whole thing plays like a crazy experiment, it need a bit more punch to be made into a game. The music is quite outstanding.

U-49 Meltdown by Blue Pin Studio 2021-10-04T22:41:51Z

My keyboard will hate me for this! I like the intensity, it is however a bit too fast paced for me - there is really no time to plan your next jump at all, (spoilers) spamming jump works best. Forcing the player to go back the same way was a clever idea. BTW I originally thought the tape was a very very old school save icon, only later realized it plays messages ;)

Unstable by DevParty 2021-10-03T23:56:52Z

I like the concept and the absurd theme. The game requires a lot of patience though, my first instinct was to start spamming blocks but as soon as one misses the tower game ends. Some kind of a rapid build mode would be a nice addition.

Banana Jack by Moritz14 2021-10-04T11:25:44Z

Amazing, very addictive. Reminds me of the good old The Incredible Machine, but distilled into a simple form. Physics are so unforgiving. I can see this as a mobile game easily. Also, very child-friendly.

GUNSTABLE MAYHEM by cakts 2021-10-05T10:46:27Z

Bloody retro pixels, well I'm in! The moment the music kicked in was magic, but I feel the music was not very fitting (was expecting more doom-like). Dying takes you back quite a bit though, that might be a bit off-putting. The gore and dismemberment are gorgeous, and controls are smooth - an excellent emotional release game! Great job.

Unshippable by MikoziQ 2021-10-04T01:31:16Z

These isometric graphics are beautiful. This is way more fun than the GTA V crane mission! The learning curve is a bit of a problem, would be nice to display tutorial on screen all the time (as a toggle?), short attention spans at Ludum Dare pretty much require it. Love the music too, very groovy. Racing again time to rebalance the ship is my favorite part.

BTW I ran into a bug where I somehow picked up two containers at the time, and then one container was stuck to the crane (space released the first one, but didn't want to release the second one), if you're up for a bug hunt.

Scrap Pilot by BjornStahl 2021-10-04T23:01:36Z

Great concept and a lot of fun, a mini KSP. I do miss more freedom in design (choose thrust direction, rotate parts etc.) but it was still great fun figuring out the designs. Kudos for not requiring a clean landing! BTW web version was a little bugged for me as the part/hotkey hovering icons don't align with mouse when dragging, but still works.

Lucky's Table by tjm 2021-10-04T10:56:36Z

I love remade classics; the physics are good, the ball feels really have and comes in surprisingly quickly, the paddles behave and the ball in a way. If you spice the theme up a bit (bricks...?) and some added some rewards this could be a decent mobile game. Extra kudos for player's shadow.

AIROBICS by mausimus 2021-10-04T01:17:40Z

Thanks @mikoziq for a great in-depth review. You are right I fell short of some things I wanted to do, storms and no-fly zones only impose delays penalty but won't end the game (storm also slows plane down x2). I initially had big plans with adjusting altitude etc. but switched to quick arcade on day two ;) Graphics took most of the time and "AI" was next.

@devparty @the-neon-shark Many thanks for trying the game out!

AIROBICS by mausimus 2021-10-05T08:24:42Z

@liam Thanks mate, that really means a lot!

AIROBICS by mausimus 2021-10-26T23:30:42Z

@lee-reilly awesome, thanks very much!

Unstable Einstein by the neon shark 2021-10-04T01:23:41Z

Exactly my type of game, an intense quick reaction arcade. Unstable time is a killer. I'd love some backstory as to why Einstein is running... or is that the payoff after getting to the end? Really smooth and polished graphics, excellent job. Also there needs to be a special 4-hour COMPO category made just for you!

Crash by Recessive 2021-10-04T08:24:58Z

A must play for any member of r/WSB, full of memes but also stonk realities. What I miss however are charts, we need some retro pixel stock charts (and a speed setting)! Also always love me a good backstory, and that some of the "scams" actually work. Music's pretty cool, too.

Untrailed by bakuchi 2021-10-04T23:17:33Z

Very satisfying to spin these doughnuts! Fun to play, and great car model and consistent sf/cyber theme overall. I feel having that high top speed is a bit of a trap because there's zero reaction time when an enemy appears and you're going fast. To add some "realism" you could have the smoke come out of the back of the car, so the enemies 'die' because of smoke. Still, great fun! Good job.

Star Drop by kantanloop 2021-10-05T22:32:56Z

Very pleasant retro-like experience, right up my alley. The game doesn't let you in lightly starting from level 1 but some of the solutions make for pleasant surprises. The chilling music is awesome and keeps playing. It's a job well done mate. If anything, the restart delay could be improved (i.e. shortened ;) for these impatient Ludum Dareians.

Unistable by ThaCuber 2021-10-03T23:13:09Z

Definitely my type of game, but very hard. A quick YouTube video showing the technique would be very nice, it took me about 20 tries to clear the first level!
