oh

my

god

I never experienced hallucinogenics until now. LOL. I loved this. I want to open the source code and the unity project and inspect everything. So many amazing effects, the visuals are just mindblowing. The level design is masterful.

The only nitpick that I have is that I really wished for some plot or something. Oh, if you work more on that after the jam, if you added some voice acting with some crazy story, I truly belive it would be a sellable product on steam and itch.io.

Masterpiece, my friend! Congrats!

geckoo1337 2021-10-04 21:04

Thank you for your feedback. What you said is really interesting. You know, in less than 3 days I did not work on a storyline because games which I love don't have one. Antichamber does not have any storyline, Manifold Garden does not have any storyline, Rouge Noir does not have any storyline (...), but it's true - it could be relevant to create one. I focused on mechanics and aesthetic - also some art pictures so as to illustrate mentally illness. I really appreciate your kind words. I wish you the best ++

hitchh1k3r 2021-10-04 22:33

The shaders in this were amazing! It reminded me a lot of Antichamber. It would have been nice to see a more exciting ending, but I guess the game is a slow decent into madness.

Well done.

mmason 2021-10-05 02:30

My eyes hurt and I feel a little motion sick, but.. that was an interesting experience. Very good job on the shader work, great experience wrapped around a game.

@hitchh1k3r Antichamber is the first thing that came to my mind too!

astropower 2021-10-05 09:18

The visual effect is great, but some of the bright color is little dazzling.

2021-10-05 10:03

When I started the game, it was the space distortion that caught my eye first. The screen effects are doing very well, and the shaders are also very well written. Anyway, be a part of my study list!

javicoder 2021-10-05 21:53

what a trip haha! I have tried other "weird" games but this one has been incredible, I don't really know how you did it, but it's really cool

chris-mcknight 2021-10-05 22:19

Really good work on all the shaders/visual effects in the game. Really well done and on theme. Would be great to see this used for some type of puzzle / adventure games. Gave me some Subliminal vibes. Good job

mausimus 2021-10-05 22:24

Well now I do need meds! I love unconventional entries like this, and it'd really well done - psychedelic environments, dithered shaders (!), change of orientation (mind = blown). Gameplay reminds me somewhat of "memory" levels in Max Payne... with a touch of Pacman obviously. It's a great concept with great mood, excellent job mate!

marc-antoine-girard 2021-10-05 22:25

Wow! The amount of shader in this, I'm impressed. The gameplay was super intuitive, very good work there. I managed to finish the game and now I'm gonna lie down a bit hahah

nazorus 2021-10-06 12:22

Amazing use of shaders to create such trippy effects on surfaces and shapes, I'm very curious as to how everything was made, it felt like a psychedelic reimagining of Antichamber.

The game is the perfect length to get into the puzzles and fully appreciate the aesthetics without causing visual fatigue. The constantly shifting wall textures and painting were particularly intriguing.

Mental instability is also a great interpretation of the theme and it's executed beautifully in this game. This might be my favourite so far.

parttimeindie 2021-10-06 13:08

I was getting sick from this so I couldn´t finish it, but it is pretty cool looking.

gabrielgamedev 2021-10-06 16:12

Damn, what an awesome game. The aesthetic is amazing. Because it's a first-person game and because of the visual style, it can get a little tired after a while. But the experience is short and I enjoyed it a lot. Congratulations on completing such a game within the jam period.

tory 2021-10-06 19:01

Hmm, similar to LSD and other psychotropic substances, but amazingly effective)

tripletconcept 2021-10-06 19:34

Это очень красивая игра, невероятно атмосферная, в нее хочется переигрывать. Великолепное использование дизеринга, он не раздражает, как это часто бывает при его использовании в играх от первого лица. В общем мои аплодисменты.

yaroslav-kravtsov 2021-10-06 21:44

Only the companion cube helps me to survive this game. Perfect execution of the game and of the player.

mhorth 2021-10-06 22:37

Wooooo someone knows their shader graphs! Nice job! I think I got to the end? I found the cube to jump up to the floating sphere, but couldn't find any progression after that.

Really trippy. I'm glad you put the warning in there, it definitely started hurting my eyes haha.

trexxak 2021-10-06 22:55

insta 5. It's even hard to justify objectively, I just love trippy videogame experiences :D

I love how you iterated on your previous entry "The Basement", and as such I would know immediately what the all-seeing eye would do and how to interact with the box!

Funnily enough, while I did experience motion sickness in "The Basement", I didn't at all in this game, so that's another plus :D

Thank you for creating this masterpiece u_u

julia-schwarzberg 2021-10-07 07:44

It's sort of like «Portal» meets «Windows 98 Screensaver». It's a mixture of tranqs, antidepressants and sleepers. I like it. (In case of airsickness, please use the vomit bags provided)

npr0nn 2021-10-08 03:56

Such an amazing aesthetics and effects, I loved, this really was an e x p e r i e n c e

nick-shooter 2021-10-08 05:13

I love these fever dream style games, 5/5. Everything was super atmospheric and off-putting in the best possible way. Those were some wild shaders you had going on there, I'd be real interested in seeing some kind of post mortem on how you pulled those off!

mrbell270 2021-10-08 20:25

The most nausea-indusing experience I have had since rollercoaster in VR.

Don't get me wrong, you got theme, style is awesome (both art and sounds), but it is just too hard to play. My eyes are hurting, I almost turned it off at green-blue-ish corridor before companion cube.

Mood and theme are perfect. But overall experience is opposite.

Sorry for harsh words, I hope you will make more of this masterfull mood games, but Maybe turn wobbling down or use less disturbing colors.

Antichumber vibes are strong with this one.

Though experience was far from great, execution is top notch. Your game is polished to shining pixels. Sounds are totally in sync with visuals and mental unstability idea is leaking through my screen.

Good luck!

flogames 2021-10-08 20:54

Well it certainly fits the theme :D This was confusing and hard on the eyes, which I'm sure was the plan, so good job creating a trippy experience! Didn't get very far though. Maybe if it started more "normal" and gradually became more trippy over time? To create a stronger sense of contrast, I don't know.

geckoo1337 2021-10-08 21:20

After one week - thank you everyone for your feedbacks and kind words. I really appreciated...

@mrbell270 @flogames Ok, it's true - this is a real pain for some players (I do my project according to the theme), but friendly you gave me some good ideas for my post-jam release. Now I cannot change anything because I don't want to cheat, but I am planning to make a full game using this first release. So your brains could appreciate something easier :)

c64cosmin 2021-10-08 21:33

Wow, this is such a power flex on shaders and effects, I loved the portal mechanics, when I started walking on the wall my jaw dropped, a very good entry, was really thinking how mental stability could be done as a game. While slightly harsh on the eyes it was equally pleasant to look at. Totally see where your inspiration was from and curious how you could get this further.

mrbell270 2021-10-08 23:27

@geckoo1337 I am sorry if I was rude, I did not mean to offend you, really. I am looking forward for more atmospheric experiences made by you, so I followed you on itch. I hope to see more user-friendly and extended version of your game, I can even volunteer for beta-test:)

P.S. I exaggerated a bit saying it was that bad. I remember, when I was getting my VR legs I was nauseating for a couple of days. So, it was uncomfortable, but not repulsing. Sorry again

electricstalin 2021-10-09 11:55

Very cool experience!

predmada 2021-10-09 12:13

Wow, what an experience! I really liked the graphics and the atmosphere. I got a bit confused when you're in the first portal room until I went back and found the cube. Gj!

robindbois 2021-10-09 18:07

I am testing VrGame for a living for now and had the same feeling as when I have motion sickness: p But I was so captivated, I wanted to see the end! Great moood!

GG!

zimny11 2021-10-09 20:41

Three things.

One. Throughout the whole game I was sceard that something would start chasing me XD

Two. My brains: haha funny colors. My eyes: existence is pain.

Three. I love this. It was just an amazing mix of pure madness and cool puzzles. The effects are so well done! Great job.

robbietaco 2021-10-10 15:15

Holy crap what a friggin entry! I loved it! Everything was on point, visuals, audio, gameplay and I felt the experience was cohesive and meaningful aswell. Really well done!

d3kryption 2021-10-10 15:19

Wow. This is so like that old LSD PS1 game hahah Nice work. Very very trippy and a good experience!

epicureanistik 2021-10-10 15:34

This is amazing. I love all the crazy visuals and aesthetics.

yerkwell 2021-10-10 16:27

Wow, so weird. Loved it

erkberg 2021-10-13 16:25

Absolutely fantastic game! It's featured in part six of my let's-play-series: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VcMY-HqW9fU

hengen 2021-10-19 10:56

very trippy, made me a little seasick! i think it would be safe to say this is the most unique game of LD49! Good job!

tygrak 2021-10-19 13:35

Very nice! Great looking visuals, very trippy. The portal effect in the repeating room was also really well executed, you almost can't see the seam! Great job!

aerloth 2021-10-19 15:55

not sure if messed up or completed it all

TakeYourMedsDarling_IoGAyDUXRg.png

very trippy experience, 100% capturing the essence of Antichamber and other mentioned titles. Reminds me of "Broken Reality" and vaporwave as well with all the classical paintings.

I liked the portal/bending space gameplay, and it was nice that it was going back to the same "start" space that I could recognize. Intense experience, solid entry, liked it a lot. Dither effects were 10/10.

pierre-morreel 2021-10-20 17:52

Very nice entry, I like the way you interpreted it ! I'm fond of non-conventional visual style so it was very interesting and appreciable. It must have been fun to play with all the shaders, some of them were soothing to look at (especially the wavy ones). That's a little thing but I also like the way you played with this simple level design solution, that was clever. Sometimes it doesn't take much to create an immersive atmosphere and this was the case - Nice entry !

j0ye 2021-10-21 10:39

I'm not only fascinated but the looks and concept of this game. I absolutly can not explain on how you managed to make this in the unity engine. Did you make non-euclidean rooms in Unity??? How did you manage to build the repeating room with the pillar in the middle and the cube as an item. I would die to see the making off!

concker-88 2021-10-21 18:40

Lol. I made a game for the 49th LudumDare - and I know this is a place for bots. This overflood could be a really interesting theme for the next LudumDare no? Definitivelly NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
