I love the aesthetics! The core gameplay loop is simple, but it's really fun as well. I like that when you die, it tells you why you died so you can try again.

It's kind of strange that A is only used once at the start to release the brake. It seems like it does nothing the rest of the game.

Also on the web port, F3 is a bad key to use, since my browser things I want to use the Find option.

This is an excellent entry. Good job!

corbeng 2021-04-26 02:47

Gorgeous art style! Was a bit startled by the controls at first, but I think they really help build the illusion of driving this hard-to-control cart. However, I think the brake slows the game down too much. I found myself slowing myself down every once in a while as to avoid getting caught off guard and having to restart (I wanted to play more of your level). I think the timer is a good start to keeping the speed up, but some design changes to the brake might make it even better. Great work overall!

mausimus 2021-04-26 02:48

@greg-the-egg thanks for trying it out, yes in the web port you can use just 1/2/3 instead of F keys (it's mentioned on the page but TLDR ;)

swordfish 2021-04-26 02:48

I really like the design of your tunnel. I think this is a really great game. I didn't get very far, but that feels like a lack of skill on my part and that I could get farther with practice. I think my record was 17 seconds.

khaotom 2021-04-26 02:50

Wow! This is a fun use of the theme and a very nice innovation on racing game!

blackopsben 2021-04-26 03:01

Very cool! Love the look of it. Hitting a beam seems to happen sooner than you'd think. This takes some skill!

youthfulidealism 2021-04-26 03:03

I felt this was really well done. The gameplay and audio worked together very well to create a great deal of tension, the graphical style was very fresh and put-together. My only critique is that it's difficult to tell the low beams apart from normal supports at high speeds. Making the beam overhang a different color might remedy this.

haztro 2021-04-26 03:12

Cool little game! Took me a while to realise you had to stop to save the miners. Really liked the minimalist 3d art. Could definitely see this being played on some kind of arcaded cabinet :)

mausimus 2021-04-26 03:15

Thanks @haztro yes the game will tell you off if you get to the end without saving anyone ;) ! @corbeng thanks for the feedback, I had to make the brake quite strong so it was possible to stop quickly to pick up miners (no reverse gear... ;)

xenon27 2021-04-26 03:36

This is great! It actually feels like a wild roller coaster, very immersive.

liammasters 2021-04-26 03:42

Really cool retro graphics! The gameplay is simple but very fun and addicting. It would be nice to know more about what the bars at the bottom mean from the beginning.

delicioussalad 2021-04-26 03:44

Very polished visuals. Also challenging! Good work

zephi-sero 2021-04-26 04:02

I love the way the game looks, and the sound fits it too.

pixelhurricane 2021-04-26 04:03

I've never really seen a game done like this before, I had a lot of fun with it and though the atmosphere and art style were both really well done for the pixelated style!

crocodiletuesday 2021-04-26 04:05

This is a really cool idea! I love the pixel-y 3d look! Could definitely see myself coming back to speedrun!

afuturev 2021-04-26 04:08

Love the option to change shader, and the overall Arcade design is a delight. When the cart is going fast, it really does feel like all breaks are off.

mausimus 2021-04-26 04:08

@crocodiletuesday thank you and I sincerely hope so! If you play a few times you can discover certain... speedrunning strategies :) which is when Weight & Inertia really come into play, during casual runs they are not really a factor as players usually go slow in the beginning.

rouge-dragon 2021-04-26 11:03

Wow, very nice game! Probably one of the funniest games I've rated!!! I like the concept and the look and feel. It took me some time to understand that I could pick up the miners. Congratulations, good job!

omid-ghavami 2021-04-26 11:30

Fantastic game! Look and feel is brilliant and the gameplay is really fun!

3lstmsinatrenchcoat 2021-04-26 11:43

I really like the look and feel. I got sucked into a degenerate strategy of just staying ducked all the time before I read the previous comment mentioning that you can stop to pick up the miners, though.

mausimus 2021-04-26 11:56

Many thanks all for the comments, I added some more emphasis on rescuing in game description! Perhaps I should have made the sound of missing a miner more obvious. And thanks for playing! @3lstmsinatrenchcoat @rouge-dragon

good-enough 2021-04-26 12:23

Fun Game! Those low beams come up so fast, though! I managed to save four miners, at least.

Screen Shot 2021-04-26 at 7.19.08 AM.png

I'm mainly left confused, however, at why there would be daylight at the end of such a deep mine shaft..

mausimus 2021-04-26 12:34

@good-enough Kudos for sticking to the end! As to the back story I imagined the mine would be more like a sloped tunnel, entrance on one side of the mountain and exit on the other ;)

dmitry-mozgin 2021-04-26 14:52

I really like the look and sound effects. And overall the game feels very solid, because I managed to go to the end, but without rescuing anyone and the end screen informed me about that. My only complain that the game is too hard for me and stressful, but it is miners, you know, stressful job. I also was happy to see raylib here. Cool game!

pixelportalz 2021-04-26 16:02

I just realized that there is a different dimension to the game: hold down duck, forget the miners and try to see how fast you can go, and how far while countering the roll. :) So innovative man, the controls feel really good. I still suck at this grrrrrr

mausimus 2021-04-27 00:25

@pixelportalz congrats! glad you got that far! in fact the right strategy is to identify which miners are worth picking up (only need one to get a score but there is time penalty of 20 seconds for each left behind) and then use ducking & balancing mechanics to go as fast as possible outside of those!

mausimus 2021-04-27 00:26

@dmitry-mozgin that was the intention, the game had to be intense! many thanks for the feedback

adonisdevs 2021-04-27 01:56

I got a score of 3546. I went fairly slowly, but I like that this game has mechanics that allow riskier play and other strategies. The game is also pretty straightforward, but may have benefited from a playable tutorial. Overall, this is very well polished :)

pichuscute0 2021-04-27 23:06

Not bad! I particularly like the art style. This looks quite nice. The concept here is great and the sense of speed you get when you really start going is awesome. The game's mechanics are also easy to understand and have a fun arcade-ness to them. Overall, I think you succeeded!

That said, as far as some critique goes, I did find the sound to be a bit on the annoying side (particularly the music at the start). Similarly, I wasn't a huge fan of having miners show up right next to obstacles you need to lower your head to dodge, because it can be difficult to multitask (slow down/speed up, pick up miner, duck) when your first learning the mechanics. Finally, I also found the draw distance to be a tad too shallow for my taste, although that will probably differ from person to person.

In any case, great job!

ezgoodnight 2021-04-28 01:23

Very difficult, but I really enjoy it. I want to get better at it. Clever and gorgeous retro design.

dob 2021-04-28 04:01

Very cool look to this, and the controls make sense. I had a little trouble figuring how to achieve my goals (hit a lot of beams). Still a little unclear on the miner rescue mechanism. But it looks neat, plays fast, and is a fun match to the theme.

tanner-shelton 2021-04-28 07:22

Reminded me a ton of the older retro games like excitebike. Super unforgiving and takes a lot to master. I really liked the look and feel of the design. Good job.

link270 2021-04-28 08:11

Very very fun. I loved the art style and the sound effects really kept me going. The small touches and animations were very well done. I just loved the simple controls and the difficulty overall. It was simple to start but very hard to master. Took me a few tries but I finally beat it. Very good job!

otresnjak 2021-04-28 14:03

Fun game! And the visuals are SO GOOD, like a long-lost game from 1990. Great work. :)

skelleroznik 2021-04-28 17:52

Very addicting game. I loved the art style and the 2D in 3D effect. The idea is very creative. It was kinda hard to keep track of two things at once: wooden planks and weight, but once I got used to it I enjoyed the game.

john-gabriel 2021-04-28 19:55

I'm afraid that after a few tries I left the miners to save themselves. Cool presentation and clever mechanics - well done!

caveman54 2021-04-29 22:26

Really like the aesthetic of this game. Fun gameplay and I did not experience any bugs.
