LD48 — Deeper and deeper

The Limbo Runner by jk5000 2021-04-26T16:30:10Z

Really fun take on the theme! The last level was very frustrating and I unfortunately could not beat it. It seems like the effect of the spacebar needs to increased just a tiny bit and the player given just a bit more stamina. Otherwise, very funny game, the commentary is great!

Also as a note, this game automatically opens SteamVR for some reason. Might be a quirk with Unreal Engine setting something as default for VR.

Rock Bottom by Josh6680 2021-04-30T04:20:23Z

Game is fun. Not sure if this is intended but I could not shoot while I was moving and could not start firing until about a second after I stopped moving. This made what I think is the last stage nearly impossible to complete. Otherwise, the visuals are nice and the level design is pretty good. Nice job :)

Scriptless Pipes by Turkey 2021-04-26T03:23:14Z

Fun, innovative idea for a game! I managed to get to the end. The fact this was made entirely in HTML/CSS is really cool. Awesome work

Fetal Fury by Squidly 2021-05-03T20:43:59Z

Cool to see some Newgrounds vets work on a game for this ldjam! I totally checked spazkid's twitter on a whim and lo and behold here's this game. Awesome work guys! Longtime fan :)

The game of course has great art and audio. Very polished and kind of challenging. fetusdeletus.PNG

BREAKIN! by Homlet 2021-04-30T04:11:35Z

A cool mixture of breakout and space invaders, on an inverted plane. Well done, really nice for a game jam game

Deeper Trance by dhim 2021-04-26T23:03:54Z

Such a cool unique idea and take on the theme! Once your eyes adjust the way they need to this game grabs you for a while while the music also aids with the trance effect. Awesome work, I doubt there's any other game in the jam like this.

Dumb Ways To Dive by Jonas Michael 2021-05-04T20:11:05Z

The visuals are beautiful, I especially love the lighting/shadow effects on the objects when you shine the flashlight on them. The controls, at times, seemed kind of finicky. For example, double tapping didn't seem to work consistently (unless I was missing some kind of indicator) and the hitboxes of some fish seemed to be too large or extended upwards a bit too much. The gameplay itself is fun and requires some finesse in order to reach the bottom.

Overall, this was a very fun and relaxing game that I felt compelled to play to the end. Good jam game, well done! :)

Free Fall by timon 2021-04-26T16:51:26Z

This game is like a 2D version of my own, I enjoyed it quite a bit and was able to get to the end. I wish I had thought of the slow mechanic! That was a really neat idea. The visuals are simple, clean, and easy to look at as well. Nice work :)

Neural Shooter by PatteDeCanaard 2021-04-26T21:05:21Z

I enjoyed this one a lot! I got to Generation VII. The game has really nice visuals, music and an interesting gameplay loop. The mixture of the different obstacles/things to shoot at adds a lot of variety. Very well done!

You Are The Helmet! by Heiach 2021-04-30T03:12:56Z

What a wacky idea... I love it! Good work on the visuals especially. The idea is certainly unique and a funny reference. It's fun to go for a high score after you figure out how the game works. (Maybe someone can reach 1k?)🤔

Hellivator by Billnotic 2021-04-26T02:48:07Z

Very fun! I played all the way through and really appreciated the tutorial text. I can definitely see this being more fleshed out but for a 48 hour submission I'm really impressed! Nice job

PANEMUAN by etrealjunior 2021-05-04T20:00:28Z

The art, music, and atmosphere are all well done. I think the subject matter regarding social media and the quest for fulfillment and gratification, and finding that in the wrong places... only to realize you should only be doing what makes you happy is a theme that resonates with me as well. Well done, this is a really nice little journey into the psyche of the modern mind.

DoomWell by Thenejo 2021-04-26T16:38:44Z

Fun, short game! My own game was also inspired by Doom/Downwell and it was cool to see your own take on it. I found that the player can cheat a bit by looking through the floor to the next level and shooting the spawners. When ignoring that though, this game is pretty challenging. Nice work!

GROTTO GO FAST!!! by William Myers 2021-04-27T19:48:48Z

Top notch art/sound design. Game is both fun and challenging. It would be interesting to see how fast you could go to get through all these levels! Awesome work :)

STRAIGHT INTO HELL by DeliciousSalad 2021-04-26T03:46:56Z

@turkey I agree with you there. I had plans to add little turrets that shoot at you but unfortunately time was a bit short. Thanks for the feedback!

STRAIGHT INTO HELL by DeliciousSalad 2021-04-29T01:35:30Z

@fussenkuh My initial thought was to make the hitbox the same size as one 'unit' that's used in the procedural generation. That's how it is now, but there are some instances where it feels you just barely hit the edge of a block. I think it would be beneficial to reduce the square size of the hitbox just a tad bit. Otherwise, glad you liked it!

@ariorick I really wanted to keep the blocks a similar color but also knew the low contrast would cause visibility problems. To /somewhat/ get around this I used a point-light with a decently large radius to cast some yellow light on the blocks that are closer to you to give a bit of contrast. I think what I would change next is to change the fog into a color that brings out the blocks that are a bit further away. Thanks for bringing this up though, I find the contrast problem creeps up on you after it's too late in many cases. I'm glad you enjoyed it otherwise :)

Thanks for the feedback so far everyone, this is my first compo so I'm really happy that my little game is being received as well as it is!

STRAIGHT INTO HELL by DeliciousSalad 2021-05-02T18:57:21Z

@tygrak My best score is around the 6k mark! However, the difficulty does cap off around 5k so things won't get any crazier after that (though admittedly... It is pretty insane by that point)

Miner Rescue by mausimus 2021-04-26T03:44:16Z

Very polished visuals. Also challenging! Good work

Homework by neverwinsthegame 2021-04-30T03:24:04Z

At first, I also appeared to have the problem of not being able to interact with anything. However I realized that spamming the 'E' key eventually led to the interaction happening. Is that intentional? If you're meant to press the key multiple times there should be some kind of counter/indicator so that players can know what's going on. Something like the book on the table filling with words or flipping pages in the book.

Right after writing this I realized you left a note saying you should spam 'E' to get the endings, guess I didn't do my homework :p. Overall, a fun, albeit short little game with some good movement.

Paragon by LakshyaIsAGod 2021-04-26T02:55:32Z

Your Windows build is missing the UnityPlayer.dll and and UnityCrashHandler! Your game can't be played unless those are also uploaded

SCHWOOP - the antiplatformer by Skye S 2021-05-04T20:23:20Z

A fun take on the theme that reminds me of my own entry but in 2D. The gun seemed somewhat inconsistent as I would still take damage even after shooting a platform so I tended to opt for the shield. Overall though, it's a fun little game and I was able to get a high score of 2467. Well done :)

Deep into the vibe by Ariorick 2021-04-29T01:07:06Z

I love the platform spawning effect and the visual style. In addition to the music, it makes for quite a mesmerizing 3 minutes. The gameplay/challenge itself I did find to be a bit monotonous/samey, but I'm okay with that since I got to experience a nice, chilled out track for 3 minutes without getting frustrated. Well done :)

Stare by Rewdas 2021-04-26T02:53:21Z

It's a good start! I was a little confused that there was no indication that I was shooting the crossbow/swinging the knife but I did quickly find out that they were killing enemies. The abyss has a neat look to it and is definitely ominous... nice work

Watch Your Step by Kooky 2021-04-27T19:09:16Z

This has some pretty unique physics-based gameplay. Takes a little getting used to but its a lot of fun once you start getting into the rhythm of it (the extra legs don't hurt either :p). Well done!

Bob's Depth by phealsout 2021-04-26T16:17:25Z

Neat little game! I like the mechanic of different polarity beams depending on the enemy. I found the green guys to be a little too difficult, in fact I have not managed to kill even one because they just go waaay too fast when they're small. It seems like the amount of hits they take should be a bit lower. Otherwise, fun! I wish I could see what's at the end
