I like this way of playing! But I can't go on the first step because the rope is not long enough or I haven't explored how to play it?

dmitry-mozgin 2021-04-26 01:58

@elmando2333 it's hard to tell for sure, some points are meant to be a little bit further away. To control the end of the rope you should point the mouse at the location you want the end to go and press a left mouse button and hold it. Sometimes you should swing to reach a point. If you stuck at a specific point you may post a screenshot it will help to figure out if it a bug.

elmando2333 2021-04-26 02:06

@dmitry-mozgin Oh, I see! Thank you. I'll try again.

mausimus 2021-04-26 03:13

Love the idea and the physics implementation. Backtracking is a bit of a chore, perhaps some "cheat" mechanism where you have limited stretching power would be nice to get less patient players through the game.

the-neon-shark 2021-04-26 03:16

The concept here is excellent, but the execution is stopped me from giving it high marks. The joy of this game is that snappy sensation of "reaching" the target and then changing to use the other end of the rope -- that feeling is a good one. However, that fun is hindered a bit by some issues:

(1) It's not particularly pleasant to drag the mouse cursor to the absolute extremities of the screen to accomplish all basic motion. Make that sense of tension less demanding so the reward of contact can be given more frequently.

(2) The first level doesn't really guide you anywhere, it's just floating dots. The level design could use some love to make the player feel like they're on a journey with some clarity and that they're improving a particular skill on that journey.

(3) Use momentum instead of inhibiting it. When releasing the moving rope, it sort of grinds to a halt -- I'd love to see a throwing mechanic here that really doubles down on momentum instead of the rigid stopping behavior.

Overall, great bones here. Definitely consider making the addictive part easier to achieve (specifically, reaching the next node should be less annoying). I understand the point is to "reach", but having my mouse cursor exit the game area detracts from the fun.

dmitry-mozgin 2021-04-26 03:38

@mausimus thank you for playing! The backtracking could be definitely an issue, thank you for pointing that!

@the-neon-shark Wow! Thank you for playing and for the such detailed review! To be honest with you, I spent the first day only on the rope physics and it falls apparat very easily, so I didn't want to make changes to the first level (and others too) and some mechanics are cumbersome as when you should drag the mouse course across the screen. Thank you again for spending time writing all that down, it is very helpful and will guide me in the future!

pohko 2021-04-26 13:13

I love this one so much, bookmarked it to play later. Between the gameplay and the music it's kind of therapeutic. I'd love to have this on mobile, I would get lost in it. Regardless of platform hope you keep fleshing it out.

nessie 2021-04-26 14:12

Cool concept, but a little bit hard to control tho.

dmitry-mozgin 2021-04-26 16:03

@pohko thank you for playing! I'm happy to hear that 😊

@nessie thank you for time playing! I wanted to make controls more responsive, but I had some difficulties with friction of the rope. I hope you got the idea of what the game might be.

falcon-lc 2021-04-26 18:51

The concept of this game is really innovative I think, maybe by improving the design, it could really give something even better

fussenkuh 2021-04-26 18:54

Really, after playing the game for a bit, I think the comments from @the-neon-shark mirror my thoughts. I really like the rope concept (even if ropes are a bear to implement nicely in video games). There is a rather satisfying rewarding feeling when you connect the dots with the rope. I think you've created a nice proof of concept in 48 hours. It would be awesome to see you continue to refine what you have. Well done!

p0l4r 2021-04-26 18:55

Interesting game! I was hope for some more rope based mechanics, and it was a bit frustrating going down dead ends. But i think the design was very simple (good simple) and nice. Good use of colors and very nice music. All in all, well done.

doc-kaos 2021-04-27 14:11

Agreeing with all of the above, but still wanted to make a comment that I love this idea. Music was great as well. Thanks for sharing this! Great job.

ekaterina 2021-04-27 17:59

dmitry-mozgin 2021-04-28 01:43

@falcon-lc thank you for playing! You're right there are plenty places for improvements.

@fussenkuh thank for you comment! To be honest with you, I've made a not complete game, but I'm glad that I could prove some theories with your help.

@p0l4r thank you for time playing! It was my misbelief that dead ends will encourage players for exploring the map, but it doesn't work like that.

@doc-kaos thank you for spending your time for leaving the comment. Your comment means a lot for me too.

zef1r 2021-04-28 06:59

Everything is cool! I think that the first points in the game should be made closer.

scrawach 2021-04-28 19:47

I will repeat myself. Original gameplay, very addictive. Combined with music - a relaxing bomb.

eduardo-yukio 2021-04-28 23:19

This was a great experience! I'm used to play action games so a chill one is a nice change of pace and your game is very chill. The slow music helped to set the chill mood very well too, well done!

I know how hard it is to make rope physics and I think you've done a great job! It worked nicely.

I don't think that it had a low quantity of levels, it was a reasonable gameplay time for a jam game.

Your game inspired me to make more "abstract" games like with only shapes and such. I always waste a lot of time elaborating a solid theme and narrative and it always ends up being overscoped.

Anyways, awesome game! I'm really hoping that you achieve a good rank!

dmitry-mozgin 2021-04-29 10:13

@zef1r thank you for the feedback! You're thinking right, I got several complains for the first points. Maybe I should revisit the first level after I made the last one.

@scrawach thank you! I should quote your words about the relaxing bomb next time :)

@eduardo-yukio thank you for your thoughtful review! To be honest with you, I wanted to make a game with a solid theme and narrative too, but the idea with physics and rope was more fun to make at the idea stage of the jam. I'm very happy that you liked my game!

fearawl 2021-04-29 11:13

Great game! The ending of the first level was a bit confusing, I thought the implementation of one mechanic was all over. However, the following levels pleased-attention is paid to both the level design and the development of the core gameplay. In general, very cool! It remains to come up with a couple of hundred levels and that's it, the mobile sticky is ready!

rubyes 2021-04-30 16:44

Dead ends in the maze feels a little frustrating, but overall it's a good relaxing puzzle

lokt02 2021-05-01 20:26

I've got some depression while playing. That music and dead ends made me feel injustice of this world. I hope that I am not dumb and game is really difficult

lex 2021-05-01 21:03

Hey, don't worry about the physics not working as you expected, the game is fun and I think it was really innovative. Game Jams are all about experimentation and learning, go easy on yourself. Congratulations!

vaincil 2021-05-01 22:13

Couldn’t get past the first level, but I want to see more! It would definitely be more fun with a more responsive movement. Nice mood!

emiliabea 2021-05-01 22:31

snipsnip.JPG I had a lot of fun with this game and I think it works really well. I like mazes and things of that sort so I thought it was fine and doable. I really like the music in the background and it's still running in the background as I type this review which means it doesn't suffer from "getting old quick". You should fix the typo at the end but also I'd love to see a post-jam version of this with more level because I really liked it :) good job

mizatorian 2021-05-01 22:35

The concept was good, and i think you handled the rope mechanics pretty well. First level was way too hard. The springiness of the rope was very hard to master. Also, the limited view of the game map hinders any logical movement. game was too big for my small laptop screen (1366x768)

dmitry-mozgin 2021-05-02 00:37

@fearawl thank you! I'm very glad that you liked my game. I'm thinking of mobile version too

@rubyes thank you for playing and pointing out the issues with dead ends. I think I could add some interesting shapes at these places, but I didn't thought about that.

@lokt02 It is sad to heart that you got such experience thank you very much for letting me know and not passing by!

@lex thank you for your support! I was really upset that I didn't manage to do what I planned and more over that everyone will play a half-baked game. I was thinking that it is waste of time for players and it won't be good. And after I'd received first feedback I realized how I was wrong. It is nothing to do with me it is just a game. Some players may be interested to know what I've done during the jam too.

@vaincil thank you for trying the game! I'm sorry to hear that. I couldn't tested all cases and the game can work on no all computers. You may try it on another pc.

@emiliabea thank you! I'm glad to hear that you liked the maze, it is the first such feedback. I thought if no one mention the typo, so I leave it as it is. I also decided that it could be an easter egg, but you pointed it out so I have fixed the typo. I'll try to let you know if there will be a post-jam version!

@mizatorian thank you for playing! Sorry to hear that you faced such difficulties. I only may advice you to play in fullscreen mode.

Thank you everyone! I want to play your games too, but I'm out of my desktop pc now. I'll try them too later.

captandrey 2021-05-02 18:36

dmitry-mozgin 2021-05-02 19:32

kripakov 2021-05-03 14:29

dmitry-mozgin 2021-05-03 17:36

cavedens 2021-05-04 14:59

Nice little game. Felt really good with the movement. Good job

euler-moises 2021-05-09 03:22
