This game was great! I was blow away with how much you got done in such a short time. Love the ascetic and visual/audio effects. Only real issue I had was that I would respawn off of the map sometimes.
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD48 → The Deep Web

@terrareef thank you! Yeah, there are definitely a few bugs in there. If i had more time i coulda squashed them all - thank you so much though!
I was able to beat it! The graphics look really cool, and the sounds go well with the style. Very fun to play. I found a bug where the player would retain their speed when falling to when they respawn, often launching them off the track again.
@choppers yeah I noticed that bug from what TerraReef said - I would fix it, but I'm not allowed to since the compo is over :( Thanks for playing!!
(EDIT): Read the rules, bug fixes like this are allowed. I fixed it.
Great job! Would have liked air control over movement. Visuals are impressive.
Level 2 is my favourite one of the three levels. Though when I respawn sometimes the bike is facing the opposite direction.
@lomna This should be fixed now with the bug fix patch from a few minutes ago. Thank you for the feedback! :)
🤯
That's how I feel after playing this.
This is amazing! To think that this hardcore cyberpunk racing game was made in only 48 hours is mindblowing. I would love more tracks and controller support, please make a post-jam version of this!
Oh and apparently the Shift drifting mode only registers for Left Shift. Not sure if that's intentional or not.
Great work. Also highly recommend the windows build after trying both. I found the acceleration sound to be a little loud, but everything else was top notch work. Those tracks were great.
@peace-of-cake-games thank you so much! Yeah, i really went hard this time around. Not a lot of sleep, but it paid off :D
Controller support was something i was looking into at the end, but sadly didnt have time...and yeah, shift is only for left-shift. I didn't think to add it to the right haha...whoops!
@valid thanks a bunch :D i tried to level out the sounds, but i don't doubt there is some inconsistencies lol
Hello, I successuflly finished the 3 levels :motorcycle: Music is nice and graphics are really cool, quite an achievement to make such a game in only 48 hours :) Congrats
I love the Tron vibe. I was initially longing for more speed and easier turns although once I got the hang of the drift mode (that's what they call handbrakes in the future, eh?) the game really started to "flow" which is awesome if one can sustain a clean run. The fact you can turn in place is a nice lighthearted touch. From technical standpoint it'd be great to have a FOV slider (to make it wider) since quite sharp/rubbery camera moves in fullscreen do get a little disorienting.
@ommadawn hehe, thank you! Much appreciated :)
@mausimus I'm glad you liked it! Yeah, lol, the "drift mode" lets you turn faster but it does also make you accelerate slower too haha...you do need it to have the game flow smoothly though, like you said.
I agree, there are actually a ton of quality of life improvements i want to give to this game ASAP. I just have to wait until judging is over to be fair :D
Much appreciate the feedback!!
The models and textures have a very diy-custom-job kinda look, but important is, that the graphics still bring the message across of what you want to deliver. Great game, especially if you weigh in the time. The only "problem" that I had was, if you would stop pressing forward, you wouldn't roll or decelerate, you would break.
@j0ye thank you! yeah, I'm mainly a programmer, so when i model and texture you will always get the DIY kind of feeling, lol!
Yeah, I wanted to do something about the controls a little bit, but i didn't have a ton of time and needed to finish some other stuff. I agree though.
Thank you for playing, and for the feedback! :)
I would've appreciated an option to turn off (or lower) the camera roll while turning as it makes me physically uncomfortable. Also found a small bug: in the non-fullscreen web version the "back" button is almost hidden in the lower right of the controls screen.
Good Graphics,GameLoop's brilliant. Some small modifixarions would make this game perfect
This is awesome, I want to make a racing game now. The music is fantastic, the art is really stunning. Really enjoyed your entry.
Sound effects are not so good, but music is awesome (and visuals also). Controls feels for me a little bit clumsy, but it was fun to play. Impressive work!
The visuals are really striking, and seeing a racing game is pretty refreshing in these types of compos. I would've liked tighter steering (or some sort of drift mechanic so i can take turns at higher speeds without getting bumped off the map). Also for audio, take time to get whichever sounds the player is going to hear the most right. I think if the engine sound's pitch increased and decreased based on speed rather than constantly increasing, that would've been extremely effective. Overall great job.
Finished it! The visuals and sound sell a pretty good early 3d kinda vibe, very nice. Like other people said, slowly decelerating instead of full on breaking when you let go of the W key would be good.
Great game. I'm surpriseds with how much you mamanged to get done in 2 days. GRaphics and music were good. Only problem was with the controls. Would have preferred the ability to slow down rather than break when letting go of 'w' and also the steering could be a bit more precise.
I found the driving sound effect to be a little irritating, it was too grainy and noisy, though the music worked pretty well with the art direction. I didn't like how the camera seemed to tilt the opposite direction of the character's bike, or how the bike came to nearly a stop when accelerate was let go. This is a really solid foundation though! Awesome work.
@smeljey I am much better at music than SFX - I can't wait for the rating period to end so i can use some good ones! Lol - thanks for playing and for the feedback :)
@lakshyaisagod thank you! do you have a specific improvement? Im currently constructing a list of QOL tasks for post-rating period and would love anythinig specific! thanks for playing.
@lb01 that is fantastic advice about SFX. I agree too, I just didn't have enough time, i barely was able to submit this game as it is - its unfortunate that the engine sound is a little annoying, but i actually agree, its my least favorite noise lol.
You can hold left shift to drift though! Not sure if you already knew that or not.
Thanks for playing, and for giving good feedback!
@guimm12 @adamwatters @pseudohausen thank you to all 3 of you - the decelerating feedback has made it to the top of the list on QOL post-rating tasks :) much appreciate the plays and comments from all of you!
I really enjoyed this! The music and graphics really tied together to make a cool tron-esque feeling. I also really liked the sound effects for collisions.
I did also see the same bug with respawning facing the wrong direction. I used version 1.2 from itch.io if that helps. It wasn't too detrimental though; I was still able to enjoy it and beat it.
I will also mention that I had a hard time getting enough speed to land in the sun-sorta-thing that ends the second stage. I had to retry the level 3 times to finally get to full speed. Some sort of simple win screen also would have been nice to have.
All that feedback aside, I definitely enjoyed playing through this. Good luck with your post-jam endeavors! I can see this turning into a pretty impressive game.
This is a pretty impressive showing for such little time! The art direction was pretty good. I liked how neon everything was, but the little particle explosion might have been my favorite part (I don't know why, just was). The controls did feel a little slippery to me, even with the drifting, but I was playing on the web version, so that might factor in quite a bit. Nice work!
I like racing games, and the graphics were pretty cool, so great game! I did have a little trouble with controlling the bike, so I found myself hitting the walls alot.
When I saw the first set of springs I worried it was suddenly going to transition into some kind of motorcycle platforming game. That would have been hilarious, but I was enjoying the racing aspect so I'm glad it was just a track mechanic. And I've always loved this particular aesthetic, so full marks on mood for this one!
This game looks and plays so well for a compo game! Definitely gonna need more than 3 levels for this in post-jam :grinning:
@lectvs thanks so much man! I had a lot of fun watching you play mine and other's games on your stream :D
Lovely cyberpunk/neon art style, the soundtrack is a banger. Very fun map design, especially with the jump pads. I would prefer maybe a different acceleration sound as it gets a bit tiring. Great entry!
I love everything synthwave and I loved this too. the space bar/drift button does not work for sure. Probably a bug.
Awesome!! The graphics look super nice, love the whole vibe of it. The only thing I would say is that the camera turning is a little intense, made me a little nauseous but I am pretty sensitive to motion sickness lol. Nice job! :)
I really liked the neon style of the game, it felt like Tron. I like how you tackled the drift mode and I ust wished it has some cool visual effect. Solid game for compo and the level design was sometimes pretty rough for player but the last level was awesome!
Controls took a bit of getting used to, music was good though.
Really like this concept (altho I really like Synthwave, also) :)
Good graphics, good music, and a fun little game! Great job!
I have another version of the scenario. Even in a superhero family, sometimes there are problems. This guy's name is Dick, and he sits at his computer all day long. But then, one day, his mother came into his room and started scolding the slacker, at which point she got a message on her pager for help. She stopped cursing and abruptly flew out of the house. Now Dick could masturbate in peace as suddenly a knock was heard at the door. The guy went down to the first floor and opened the door. On the threshold of the house stood his titsy aunt, who had come to visit. Many people on https://deepweb.net/ might like this. I advise the developers to pay attention to it.
Hey everyone! Thought I would update the thread from 3 years ago, in case anyone wants to check it out - this game jam has just released, as of today, as a full game on Steam!
It's called Synthwave Racers now. If you want to see how much its changed, check it out here! https://store.steampowered.com/app/1916710/Synthwave_Racers/
