LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Deep Freeze Café by brian-mayberry 2021-04-27T16:31:54Z

Ok, the description itself already made me laugh, "extra large PROCEDURALY GENERATED industrial deep freezer" is such a good sentence. Now I want to see a roguelike in a grocery store setting haha. Very interesting take on the theme for sure.

Midniight by Ace17 2021-04-27T04:14:00Z

I finished it! Yo, the sound design is so good! Top notch mood for sure. Some good platforming puzzles too. Overall a great experience.

SeaQuest DVD: the Quest for SeaQuest DSV by beardywombat 2021-05-01T14:43:28Z

I really liked the art style, it all fits together very nicely, and the painted feel made it work well with the underwater theme.

Gameplay wise, good job on making every enemy unique and even including a boss fight! In my opinion aiming with the mouse would be more intuitive/feel better to play with rather than with I/K (of course, still making it so the turret slowly changes it's direction), but that's a small gripe.

It did feel like the game ended abruptly, but that's the nature of game jams haha, I can't complain much there. Overall this was a great experience, kudos to the team! (loved the cactus btw)

Deep Words by 0x01F0 2021-05-01T19:37:43Z

I really like the idea! The visuals are great, and the zoom into the environment upon completing a poem is a nice touch. I think it still needs some work on the sentence making, but the essence is there for sure. I agree with with everything @tomlbarden said too.

I think my favorite poem was this one: >"The bastard jumped with the liquid, the blood missed amidst the people."

DeeperCORP by grena 2021-04-30T17:28:47Z

Oh no, you found my weakness! This is definitely the game I spent the most time on this jam so far. I didn't think of it at first, but incremental games can definitely fit very well with the theme. The sound effects and gameplay loop are so satisfying! Great job!

This is as deep as I got before the colony got so big it started eating like 2k rations per second haha. Although I did have to pull out my auto clicker at some point. Also managed to sneak in a screenshot of the stats before my inevitable doom.

Lonely Journey by blockerz 2021-05-02T20:31:11Z

I really felt for J1, when he said that he preferred not using sleep mode I started to realize where this was going, you really did a good job on delivering it. I would tend to look at the distance meter before pressing the sleep button, and every time the number jumped a lot I would think "oh god, oh no". Realizing you have been asleep for such a long time is a pretty bizarre thought, but not as scary as having to live throughout all of it alone and without having anything to do. I liked how you handled J1's ending, the overwriting being first brought up as a possible "punishment" and then later as his choice really showed how this all affected him. This is definitely the game that made me feel the most in this jam, and I doubt that's gonna change.

The Void by AMastryukov 2021-04-27T16:02:14Z

Woah, what's up with this cinematic experience? Like for real, really good build up, graphics and music, really well done!

Gardner Lake by AdonisDevs 2021-05-01T21:01:31Z

Man this is good, got me hooked to the end. The repeated slow descent and resurface made for a great balance of tension and relief. Really glad I found this gem, great work!

Deeper Understanding by detectiveLosos 2021-04-30T18:28:50Z

Ok, I don't play horror games, but for some reason I made a exception today... God I was so scared at every second lmao, like for real. Every time I had to look behind me I was scared something would have changed. Every time I went to answer the door I was scared the bathroom door would open, or that the person outside would open the door. I was scared of having hallucinations so I didn't take meds until the headache got at it's worse, and dear god, when that thing appeared on my counter, I fucking can't even describe how I felt, holy shit. I ended playing up to 2 different “endings”, until I felt that was enough for me haha.

I don't know if this is helpful, but consider this the feedback of someone who never plays horror games lol. This is definitely getting a perfect mood score from me!

Beneath by Rewzu 2021-05-01T20:05:26Z

This is very fun! The thing I most loved about this is how 3 actions are integrated into a single mechanic: jumping, breaking blocks and damaging enemies - and with adjustable height and blast radius, all in a single button! Great job on fleshing out this concept.

The Deep Web by William Corrin 2021-04-26T16:39:52Z

Finished it! The visuals and sound sell a pretty good early 3d kinda vibe, very nice. Like other people said, slowly decelerating instead of full on breaking when you let go of the W key would be good.

Deep Dish Delivery by shaner421 2021-04-27T18:13:45Z

The solution for the library puzzle came to me when I wasn't even at the computer, man I'm slow haha. I went back and finished the game (without eating the pizza). I found the movement/fighting a bit clunky, but the art and sound were great, very well done!

Lemon Biscuits for Tulip by miwikiwi 2021-04-27T14:01:42Z

I gotta say, incredibly sweet game <3, great job!

Depthplosion by HPA97 2021-04-30T20:55:05Z

Interesting entry, I agree with most of the feedback here, so I will just add a bug that I ran across twice: sometimes when a bomb(?) hits you it pushes you in front of the blocks, that makes you forever fall through the level, I got to 5000+ depth that way. Just thought I would warn you. Interesting idea though, and good job on the game!

Into the Mind by Kanda 2021-05-01T15:47:50Z

The music and art really fit well with each other, and I loved the loading transitions! Character animations felt really unique, especially jumping and the tilted falling, very nice.

Although it felt it should be confusing at first, character/enemy sprite swaps were actually pretty easy to spot because of how different their movement patterns are, all of this while still keeping the appearance of "chaos". Also, I think keeping the health information away from the player was a good idea, not sure how to describe, but not knowing the health mechanics made the experience more mysterious, making it more tense and at same time giving false confidence to the player.

Overall a interesting yet challenging experience, good job on the entry!

Spy Supply by Martta 2021-04-27T13:40:47Z

I did run into a couple of crashes (apparently giving the salt shaker to "take care" of the leader was too powerfull of a move haha), but everything else is great. Love the concept, so creative. Great job!

Deep Space Janitor by kristof 2021-04-26T17:04:33Z

I liked the implication that tasks like watering plants and fending off intruders are in the same level of importance, makes sense for a robot protagonist haha. Also, this does sell a good mood. Good job on the entry!

Altum Square by Ennacirruh 2021-04-26T17:34:35Z

Yo, this is sick. Even though the tutorial was a puzzle by itself, once I got the hang of it, it was pretty fun. I kinda wished the ball didn't move with the screen tho, so I could comfortably leave the ball in horizontal spaces too while changing the maze. This is a great entry, good job! (and also, congrats on your first game jam!)

Little Mother by Save Sloth Studios 2021-04-27T19:07:51Z

Ok, this is incredible. The art, music and mood of this game are absolutely perfect, especially the sound design! I have no complaints, great job!

The Search for Catlantis by TheEarthAbides 2021-04-27T16:53:19Z

I heard there was a boss fight, so came back and finished the game, very glad I did haha. I like how unique every enemy is, leads to more interesting gameplay for sure. Great job!

Delve Deeper by the__baldur 2021-05-01T16:23:29Z

Nice and short game, really liked the pixel art. I agree with @voxel-forest, I wish the gold had some use at the end haha. Congrats on your first game jam though!

Derbys F#ckin Pissed by sdata 2021-04-30T14:50:12Z

This was pretty fun, I liked how the mob was always very close, idk if it's because of the layout I got, but most of the time it felt like I was just fast enough to get away. I think it could have used a few more "room" presets though, and maybe a mechanism to stop sections from repeating in a row. In general a tense and satisfying experience.

He do be pissed tho.

Nestence by guimm12 2021-04-26T08:23:03Z

@william-corrin Thank you!

@kristof Thank you! I do agree, audio would help a lot, I just really didn't have time (or audio skills). Good to know the macOS version is working, I'm gonna add separate downloads for each version later, thank you for warning me!

Nestence by guimm12 2021-04-27T02:14:12Z

@ennacirruh @shem Thank you! I'm glad the mood came across well.

@ace17 Thank you! Good to know the Linux version is working! And yeah, sound is definitely lacking.

@tatu-heinamaki @brian-mayberry Thank you!

Nestence by guimm12 2021-04-30T15:09:35Z

Thank you for all of the feedback and kind words!

I wished I had the time/confidence to add sounds at the time, but I'm glad some of the experience came across even without them! I actually got a headache the day after because of how little I slept during the jam haha.

@sdata Oh, you are right, I forgot to make a killzone on that area. Thank you for testing stuff!

Robo-Driller by Famicon80 2021-05-01T20:33:21Z

I like this, there are a lot more inter-winding mechanics than I initially thought, gotta love the chaos created by those interactions. The game feels very polished too, great job!

Space Cave by Timo Gass 2021-05-02T14:42:20Z

This was pretty fun, the moving and shooting feels good once you get the hang of it and landing trick shots on enemies was satisfying. I also liked the "healing by killing" mechanic, and the UI was on point. I stopped playing at 2000m because it got repetitive, some more variation on later stages would the nice, but this is a LD game so I can't complain. Overall great entry! (Quality devlog too)
