This is a well polished game. I'm amazed how much content you were able to create in just 48 hours, not only the dialogs but the maps too. The combat mechanics are really simple but well used and there a lot of room to grow. The music is pleasent as well as the sound effects.

Unfortunattely after the 3° door, my game crashed and I lost all my progress.

Looks beautiful and plays smooth! Thanks for the amazing game!

Such a cool game, I love the mechanics, especially jumping around. However air attacks would be nice, hitting space while in air could set your velocity towards the ground, and also the attack is a little slow and unresponsive, other than that the sheer artwork can keep one entertained alone, but with great NPCs and Enemy interactions this is a very nice game. gg

Just fixed the bug that crashed the game after defeating the Gyro enemy :)

Good to see a fellow Godot dev in the wild. Really enjoyed the visuals here, and it has an impressive runtime for a 48 hour jam game! The audio, I'm afraid to say, didn't impress as much. After a few minutes I turned the volume down and put Top Gear on in the background...

I agree with other commenters this is an impressive amount of content for 48h compo, both polish and amount of levels etc. Great job! I'm usually fairly bad at platformers, but I kind of cruised through this one. I only used an ale twice but didn't really need it all that much. So perhaps it needs something to dial up the difficulty a but (considering it was even for me, haha). FYI - there was a weird visual glitch every so often, I've seen something like this with tile games in Unity... it looks like a frame or so showing white seams between textures.

I agree with @john-gabriel at the sounds but beyond that the game is great and i love the level design.

lovely game with cute graphics, congrats!

Thank you all guys for the reviews! Really love reading these and I agree with you all. This was my first ever Ludum Dare or any gamejam or finished game really :D

I absolutely understand the dislike for audio, not a big audio guy myself and it shows, especially on the music haha

Thank you all for playing the game! I appreciate it :)

That was a pretty fun game! But I don't directly understand that beer allow you to heal you up, and when I pressed Q, I didn't see that it worked at first, because you didn't have a feedback about it. And also, It's kinda sad to get all of this gold for noting in the end. But it's a good game overall with cool graphics and level design!

guimm12 2021-05-01 16:23

Nice and short game, really liked the pixel art. I agree with @voxel-forest, I wish the gold had some use at the end haha. Congrats on your first game jam though!

Very nice game. Sometimes the attack didn't go off on the first press of the spacebar. Great entry.

2bitcrook 2021-05-02 05:55

Nice fun little game that was a jolly pleasure!

Pixel animations were solid and I loved the extra polish applied to the collectables, the shine/shimmer effect on the ale tankards/mugs were really nice.

I agree with other comments about the sounds and music and they're probably the only weak thing about the game!

A potential thing to develop further was additional enemies, at least one kind of enemy in the game that had a projectile attack would have been nice to see as I never took damage from any enemies since my mighty dwarven slash had quite the range (it even might be longer than it looks).

I also agree with others that it'd be nice if the gold had some use for a special ending, I think I got 119 gold so I think I missed one? But even just a "great job you got 100 out of 100 gold!" or something would have really been a nice way to finish.

Either way really great entry and the amount of content and polish you crammed into 48 hours is awesome!

Great entry and good job!

the-baldur 2021-05-02 10:00

Thank you guys!

My initial plan was to make at least one more level, starting from the Dwarven fortress and ending in the cave. Also had a plan to have two unique enemies per area, so two dwarven mechanoids (like gyro) in fortress and two other enemies in caves (like the goblin) but did not have time at the end! :D

As for the gold there was supposed to be some use, or at least a high score, but I did not manage to implement it!

A very cool little game. Overall looks great and plays quite well too! A midair attack would definitely make the combat a bit more interesting.

mikoziq 2021-05-02 20:14

Oi, pour me some Ale!

Pros:

- Dwarf adventurer... - That heals himself with Ale! - lovely graphics - nice soundscape - variety of enemies - Challenging enough level design and mechanics - Animations!

Cons:

- No drinking Ale animation! ( I thought that would be the first thing!) - Don't know if you introduced coyote time, but I sometimes felt reaching the platform in my mind, but game told me nope - Once enemy pin you down (goblin), there's no way of recovering... - No ending? (got to last room with all others) - Gold would be useful to something (open secret doors etc.)

Overall, a definitely solid entry, especially to Compo. Well done!

adamwatters 2021-05-02 20:20

Very well polished game. Graphics looked good. Sound was a bit repetitive at times. Good job overall.

bytinggames 2021-05-11 09:55

Congrats on creating such a well-rounded game in 48 hours. The graphics are nice and the sound is also good, although the bumping collision and walking sound was a bit annoying/loud. I like that you gave forgiving hitboxes and even put in some dialogue. I'm not sure if I reached the end, I can't open the door here: Unbenannt.PNG If that is the end, the game could be harder in my opinion, but you can't go wrong with a game that is too easy either. Well done!

the-baldur 2021-05-11 12:18

Hah thank you! Yeah that's the end! I had grander plans for the ending but time was my enemy :D
