Nice game with fun gameplay. Graphics are great.

ultrashel 2021-04-26 14:05

Good game with awesome graphics! :)

esosek 2021-04-26 18:44

I like the bomb visuals how they start to glow red. It's entertaining to kick the bomb into the holes. Very polished game.

paroxysmal 2021-04-27 01:59

First Unreal engine game I've seen. I was confused by the green objects and jumped into one since green "usually" is a good thing...I was wrong. Overall good entry.

progdamn 2021-04-27 06:24

unusual graphics are excellent, and gameplay was pleasant

dimaswift 2021-04-27 07:55

really smooth game, it's rare to see an entry on unreal. well done

hpa97 2021-04-27 08:54

@paroxysmal Thanks! Green was probably not the best color to choose, maybe purple would fit better. I'm surprised more people don't use Unreal Engine for these jams.

txanevk 2021-04-27 18:44

Very funny and simple but solid game play. Nice graphics too.

mvasko2 2021-04-27 19:40

I too was confused by the green bombs, I thought it was some kind of a powerup

The game is pretty fun. I like the variability of the bombs. Also the graphics and sounds are nice, they create a nice dark-ish atmosphere. I would maybe dim the player light a bit (seemed too bright) and choose slightly more pleasant colors for the background. I missed music.

Also, I think some kind of a sign that an instantly-exploding bomb is coming would be nice. The player often doesn't have much time to react to it.

Solid entry overall, good job

hpa97 2021-04-27 19:43

@mvasko2 Thank you for the great feedback! Yeah music would've added a nice touch, and I should have made the dangers more obvious and clear for the player. :)

pink-spaceman 2021-04-28 00:12

I love the artstyle, the gameplay is realy fun, great game

macdoom 2021-04-28 06:52

Cool graphics! And the sound really gave me that metallic feeling. The red light bombs are somewhat punishing. Great work!

mudlee 2021-04-28 09:23

I'm not sure I got it. I have to just avoid falling bombs and let them do the work? If so, than it wasn't that fun for me, because I "just" have to escape the bombs and done. More of a bit of a boring feeling, sorry :( The design indeed looks good, but this is an unreal project, where the default light setup looks like this. I advice you not to use game engine default features, because even though they look cool and shiny, but for people like me who has experience both in Unity and Unreal it just feal "yeah, the default settings again".

Despite these, it's far away from bad, just some feedbacks from my side. Maybe if I can interact more to push the game's pace, then I would enjoyed it more a bit.

littlegamer 2021-04-28 09:33

A very nice game ! I like how light is affecting how you play this game. You nailed it for on the idea of seeing or not seeing the danger, the way the bomb glows is perfect in that it give information on danger but also on paths surrounding. It's a very nice use of graphics for gameplay mechanic, which is frankly impressive in a 48h made game. Pushing the bomb, while a very simple interaction in itself, actually creates a lot of depth to the gameplay since you use this to throw away a bomb but also to place it in a place that will open a path.

Only problem would be the missiles that are going to fast on the player, or too unadvertised. Maybe a sign appearing on the place they will land could help ; it would create a bit of stress too.

Overall a very good entry !

cheeks 2021-04-28 10:28

Cool concept and graphics, I do wish the white missile telegraphed itself more since it just swoops in and instant kills

hpa97 2021-04-28 11:14

@mudlee Thank you! I appreciate critical feedback so that I can learn from this. Dodging bombs will be more difficult as time passes, but I can see how it might be boring to play and that I should've probably have added more interesting game mechanics. I will try and spend more time on light setup and not use default Unreal settings next time! Thanks!

hpa97 2021-04-28 11:24

@littlegamer Thank you! I'm happy that you enjoyed the bomb flash to "light the way" feature. I originally made the red bombs light at all time but figured it was more enjoyable when it only lighted up in its last moments but also allowed the player to escape it. Also glad that you enjoyed the "Pushing bombs into holes to make it blow a nice path" game mechanic.

It seems like a common feedback that I've made the white missile a bit too difficult by not giving more hints about it's path, and maybe should've slowed it down as well. I got used to the blue light and dodging away from it but I recognize that it might not work that well especially for people that have difficulties with color vision.

hpa97 2021-04-28 11:37

@cheeks Thank you! Yep, the missiles should've definitely been made more clearer as I've noticed from these feedbacks!

cogcomp 2021-04-28 20:20

A really beautiful game! Nicely done! The different kind of bombs kind of confused me and I ended up headbutting some of them to my surprise that worked! It needs a slower ramp up for people with terrible reflexes such as mine. Well executed!

hpa97 2021-04-28 20:31

@cogcomp Thanks for feedback! Glad to hear you liked it. I should've probably added some short tutorial at the beginning showcasing the different bomb types and what to do with them. Yeah, the ramp up should probably have been slower maybe with different difficulty modes.

radiotrophia 2021-04-29 02:12

Based. nice art also o0o

blue-pin-studio 2021-04-29 02:22

Pretty good submission! I loved the bomb's lighting and sounds. Especially the timed barrel and the nuke.

I thought the floating gem was a powerup or something but it turned out to be a bomb. Perhaps next time ensure all hazards are colored the same way so there would be less confusion :P

testudor 2021-04-29 02:23

Cool game! I really liked the sound effects for the red bombs, very creepy.

fonics 2021-04-29 02:24

I really like the audio design, and the graphics are nice and add to the mood really well. I found myself wishing the bombs would drop faster so the game would turn into more of a fast-paced almost bullethell-like experience. Controls were a bit floaty, but other than that excellent entry!

lazzor 2021-04-29 19:01

I think the explosions could have been made more dramatic by adding some particle effects. Also, at least for me, the bombs always came straight down. Shooting them at an angle would have allowed them to roll, which would motivate the player to move more I think.

Apart from that I really enjoyed the game, so nice job nonetheless! :P

linky439 2021-04-29 21:40

Nice idea of some sort of reverse tile-matching game!

Dodging the bombs is quite interesting, even though I found it a bit slow at the start and then the bombs are very hard to see in the dark! Overall, nice graphics, the audio is fine as well. I just found the game a bit slow before an abrupt end.

Congrats!

stephenwhoskins 2021-04-30 02:43

This is an excellent game! That's freaking amazing that you did this all in 48 hours. And you've definitely nailed the theme. I am most impressed. =D

sarajs 2021-04-30 13:36

Thanks for submitting! I hope my in-stream feedback was helpful!

guimm12 2021-04-30 20:55

Interesting entry, I agree with most of the feedback here, so I will just add a bug that I ran across twice: sometimes when a bomb(?) hits you it pushes you in front of the blocks, that makes you forever fall through the level, I got to 5000+ depth that way. Just thought I would warn you. Interesting idea though, and good job on the game!

hpa97 2021-04-30 21:47

@blue-pin-studio Thanks! It seems like I made a big mistake with coloring a bomb green... my bad!

@testudor Thanks! I'm very thrilled you found the red bombs creepy!

@fonics Thank you! If I spent more time on it I would've probably have added difficulty modes.

@lazzor I was considering particle effects, but that would require me to learn it first  . I agree having bombs fall straight down might be a bit dull in the long run. Thanks for great feedback!

@linky439 I was hoping making the game darker would make the bombs more visible with the lights they give off, but it seems like that didn't work out too well. Thanks!

@stephenwhoskins Thank you, that means a lot!

@shaunjs Thank you for the feedback on stream. I was hoping the darkness would add some "Depth" by not letting the player know where the red bombs fell until they lit up in its last moment (I wanted it to add a bit of a creepy mood). It was very fun seeing someone else play my game, and I think you do a great job giving everyone you review fair and honest feedback!

@guimm12 Thank for reporting the bug, I've had it several times but I decided not to spend time fixing it (Me lazy), also it was very similar to "dying" so I figured players would just instantly press restart or something.

doctortm 2021-05-01 01:26

Nice compo! The graphics are very interesting. Good job!

cody-miner 2021-05-01 05:12

Depthplosion has the best mood of any of the LD games I've played so far. It's the only one of these games I've found scary. The stark lighting, constant threat of being blown up, strange sounds, and lack of any way to fight back worked very well together. Also, my computer is a potato so I got 2-3 fps with input lag of about 1 second, which contributed to the feeling of helplessness.

cjgladback 2021-05-18 02:44

Thank you for letting me play this on stream (forever ago)! [Here's that clip](https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1007876502?t=2h38m45s) in case you want to rewatch it.
