LD26 — Minimalism

Darwinian Monsters by uprightpath 2013-04-29T17:13:00

I also get the orange screen after about 15 seconds of actual play.

The sliders also seemed to stop responding after I changed them a few times in a row.

Cool concept, but it definitely needs some sort of in-game tutorial and a bit more of an intuitive interface. If you fix the orange screen, I will rate it.

One Chance by spacechase0 2013-04-29T17:37:00

I was pretty unclear what I was doing at first... when unlocking the "upper" building didn't work I went down, and then had no way of defending myself. It'd be nice if you had to pick up the knife before you went down into the cave.

Fighting seemed annoyingly difficult... it would have been much better if you could hit multiple stacked enemies with 1 swing, and if there was some sort of knockback when you hit the enemies.

Enemies that were at the doorway of a level that you left stay there when you try to go back... and kill you immediately.

The music and sounds were top-notch for a 48-hour game. Very well done!

Chameleon by Helco 2013-04-29T17:48:00

Pros:
Very nice music! I really liked it. Sounds were good too.
Very simple graphics, but they worked really well and looked nice.
I love the animation of him walking! I actually enjoyed him rotating around instead of just being a sprite with a fixed pivot point.

Cons:
I didn't like only being able to walk up/down/left/right, but I got used to it.
Potion at the beginning is odd... you're already at full health?
In the first cave level, it's unclear on where you go to advance to the next level, since the colors used seem to be the same as the wall. I figured it out, but it was confusing.
The flies are really hard/annoying to eat, and I just ended up ignoring them.

Overall: Nice job!

Werewolf in Space by free_napalm 2013-04-29T17:19:00

Very nice concept! I wasn't clear what I was supposed to do at first (I just kept hitting space and then wondering why I couldn't avoid the werewolf). Once I realized that I had to move and solve the puzzle first, that helped.

It seems a bit too random for my tastes (is there really a way to beat this every time?), but it's a cool idea.

simpLify by SonnyBone 2013-04-29T22:40:00

Great concept, confusing execution.

You have really nice art in general, both in graphics and music. The world you created is really cool.

That said, I have no idea what I supposed to do for the 2nd puzzle. Tracing that many lines feels like a chore, so I'm not sure if I'm supposed to only turn on the lines that go off the screen, but either way it just felt annoying and un-fun.

And the movement speed is extremely frustrating.

Darkness by Liikeaturtle 2013-04-29T22:25:00

Really annoying movement. Why can't I move diagonally, and why is it not a constant movement? I also had no idea what to do after I found the first door... there were no "lights" around me that I could see.

Crated by Thepattybeast 2013-04-29T22:53:00

It's a good attempt, but you should work on the controls in general. It feels really awkward to not be able to control yourself in the air in a platformer. It also makes even the very first 2 jumps in the game really annoying.

JEB_001 by Bevilacqua 2013-04-29T22:21:00

Good effort, but your hit detection / scrolling camera is really odd, and I'm not really sure what exactly I'm supposed to be doing. The controls only showed for a couple of seconds to me.

SSSS : Super Simple Smart Shooter by Nekith 2013-04-29T18:00:00

Got a score of 87 on my first try. Nice game! Fun and the entire "pick up too much ammo and you'll get slowed down" is a good take on "minimalism". That said, you really don't get slowed down much, and I found myself mostly sitting on 2-3 ammo with no problems.

Between the lines by martijn 2013-04-29T19:34:00

I love that so many of these games are going with the image for "minimalism" on wikipedia as their graphic inspiration.

This is pretty fun! Basic controls and implementation, and pretty satisfying gameplay.

The game started really bugging out on the levels with the green-bouncy stuff. It seems like when you hit that stuff with your head, the game doesn't handle it very well.

Also, the "warps" were pretty annoying when they kept just going back immediately. It would have been better to have to leave the "warp landing" and then go back in to get teleported back.

Jumping was a bit tedious at times with the "switchbacks". I would have preferred the game without those levels.

Overall good job!

Pixel Burst by Ninjaxio 2013-04-29T22:45:00

Your dropbox seems like it got cut off. Can't download the windows game.

Abyss by SomeNetworkGuy 2013-04-29T22:28:00

This is a good start, but as others have noted, it's the same throughout. Difficulty doesn't get harder as you go.

Pixel Arena by Curlystraw 2013-04-29T21:50:00

It seems like this game had potential, but in its current state it is a bit dull. There's not really a ton of strategy here, you just eat white stuff until you're big, then you go off and kill the blue/red stuff.

I'm also not really a fan of being locked to only 4 directions... was there a reason for this design choice?

Overall it feels unfinished.. more stuff will make it better!

Protector by minibutmany 2013-04-29T22:44:00

I got to level 3 by simply holding the "turn" key and the "fire" key. Then a red ship came and shot me.

That said, it's a good attempt!

Atom That Matters by Babek 2013-04-29T22:50:00

I love the art style and general graphics. It just looks really nice! Good job there.

A few things:

1) You aren't locking the mouse cursor to the center of the screen. This means that I can't run it in windowed mode, since my mouse will eventually move off the screen. I even had this problem in full-screen mode since I have 2 monitors. It let my mouse move over to my 2nd monitor, and then would move focus away from the game.

2) I still wasn't really sure what I was doing. I headed towards the black hole, but nothing happened?

Particles by Covenant 2013-04-29T17:56:00

Very nice! A good spin on the move-your-mouse-and-don't-hit-the-walls games.

I found the controls of "move your mouse faster, the particles move slower" thing a bit odd. I guess it makes sense, but it felt weird. Most of the time I was just moving the mouse slowly.

Particle effects are top-notch, and the music is nice too.

A few general bugs (I was playing on W7)
The music kept playing after I closed the window, I had to manually end the process.
I wasn't able to move the window by simply clicking and dragging it... I had to right-click and manually hit "Move".

ColorBridge by TheSambassador 2013-04-29T18:02:00

Spacechase0... you shouldn't be able to do that, and it's a bug. Clicking a red square shouldn't give you any option to move that color. Once a square is either Red, Blue, or Green it can't be "split" any more, and you can only transfer other colors into it.

That said, you definitely seem to be able to click where the green color picker is on a green square and then move it. That is a bug, and makes the game really easy.

Jumps-- by revilossor 2013-04-29T21:55:00

Overall it's a well-done platformer with a nice aesthetic/graphics and good sound for this fast of a game...

That said, your camera is atrocious. The camera should try to show you where you are going, not focus on where you have been. Having 2-3 tiles of visibility when you're running is extremely detrimental to platformer gameplay, and it's ultimately why I quit.

Also, it's not super-intuitive to die from walking into the sides of spikes.

Good overall entry, but the camera really ruined it for me.

The Prospector by Steven Colling 2013-04-29T18:17:00

Very nice!

Timothy's Adventure by FenrisWolf 2013-04-29T17:26:00

Good basic stuff! Silly, but "fun" in the same way that all of these types of games are fun.

A few criticisms:
1) The guitar loop gets REALLY grating after about 10 seconds.

2) It's weird that if you leave the level at the bottom of the screen, the lines slide towards the bottom. If you think about it, it should be the opposite (exit bottom, animate the lines moving upwards).

3) Seems odd that the game doesn't pause when you hit the shop.

I love mustache.

Colorobellum by TheMightyComp 2013-04-29T22:59:00

I did really like this! It's a cool idea, and I love music/rhythm games in general.

There didn't really seem to be any "downside" to getting hit, other than resetting your bonus. The game itself seems to keep going forever, so I'm not really sure what incentive I have to avoid the dots.

The notes also got way out of sync at the end for me. I have a pretty good computer, and it didn't suffer any framerate issues, but towards the end things were coming out a full second later than the song. It would be better if you could periodically check how far you are into the song and base your timings off of that.

LD27 — 10 Seconds

Specky by Rabbits... 2013-08-26T20:33:00

Nice entry! very odd control scheme. As others have said, while it's different, it really just ends up being sort of annoying to use.

Sound was EXTREMELY loud for me... not really sure why.

There also really should have been some sort of loading bar. The page was just plain white for me for about 10 seconds, and I almost closed it thinking it was bugged. Similarly, having to sit there for 10 seconds at the beginning made me wonder if I was supposed to do something.

Cool concepts otherwise!

Time for regrets by FoxFiesta 2013-08-26T20:54:00

It's an interesting idea, but I can't help but feel like there's not enough going on to stand on its own. I finished it, but walking through the scenes was pretty boring/uninteresting. I know that that is kind of "the point", but I guess the idea of "man regrets not talking to a random person he saw once" wasn't that compelling to me.

For 7 hours, it's OK though, and the sounds and core IDEA are pretty good.

Emily Escape! by avaki 2013-08-26T05:53:00

You've got some great visuals and some very nice music. Unfortunately the gameplay felt really repetitive to me. The EXTREMELY long shooting animation seemed to mean that even if I shot at the same time as a guard, I couldn't move out of the way of the bullet to dodge it. Whether or not I got hit seemed due completely to luck.

The art of the game is really good though!

Clocked In by rylgh 2013-08-27T05:41:00

This is a very nice game! Super smooth, good controls, and a basic idea. I got to level 28.

Not the blue wire! by sol_hsa 2013-08-26T06:18:00

This is awesome and straightforward. There's something very satisfying about tracing the line from the top to the correct place at the bottom. Such a simple concept... perfect for LD.

I wish there were some more complex things introduced later, instead of just getting more "tangled". You could have to cut multiple wires, wires in a specific order, etc.

Overall, cool game!

Time Taxi by HippyJonYo 2013-08-26T20:42:00

Very cute/interesting idea.

It's sort of disheartening to see "you were late by .1 seconds" when I was so close. Is there a cutoff, or does it just always tell you how late/early you were?

Satyr Run by realtutsgml 2013-08-26T20:22:00

Love the sounds. Pretty hilarious.

Not a fan of the sort of controls (instant-acceleration and no decelleration) but the basics are pretty solid. Levels are somewhat boring, but can't expect that much better from this compo.

Good job!

Fleeting Reality by LionelJitro 2013-08-26T06:14:00

It's... interesting? Definitely one of the more unique takes on the theme, and the graphics and sound are really unique. It has a really creepy mood in general too.

That said, moving seemed unnecessarily slow, and without your "spoilers" i would have had no idea what I was supposed to be doing. I instinctively tried to "channel" along with the breath sound, but I only got a mushroom to pop up. After that I didn't seem to be able to make any progress, and reading the "spoilers" it seems like it's just a guessing game?

It would have been really cool if there were more hints (and a better indicator of when the "reality shift" was about to happen than the dot, since counting 10 dot blinks is not really "fun").

Very unique and overall a cool entry!

IMPACT by ENDESGA 2013-08-27T05:29:00

The graphics and sounds are very well done!

There being a hard limit on how good you can do put me off though. It seemed like 173, maybe 200 was the max score, and it was pretty easy to hit that. There wasn't much incentive to keep playing after that.

Penny Shaking by PackSciences 2013-08-26T20:18:00

Um....

Short Nightmares by Martin_Monosys 2013-08-26T20:59:00

Kinda annoying to host your game on a website that makes me watch an ad first...

The images and sounds, along with the text, definitely give you a very cool and creepy mood.

I got to "3rd night" and had no idea what I was supposed to be doing. It just kept repeating.

Mouse sensitivity was REALLY high for me, making it kinda hard to do. Not sure why using the mouse for looking was even necessary here.

Stellar Countdown by Khopa 2013-08-26T06:34:00

Cool interpretation of the theme! It's an OK shooter, but you really need some different enemies/challenge to make this game interesting. It didn't even seem like there were more enemies being generated.

10 Seconds of Grey by Almax27 2013-08-28T20:30:00

Really silly stuff! And a cool interpretation of the theme. It got pretty repetitive quick though, and I wasn't sure if there was an ending, or if it went on forever. The conversatons never seemed to change.

Good music, humor, and graphics though! Nice job.

Poorly Planned Pillaging Party by ecbambrick 2013-08-26T06:26:00

Awesome puzzle game! Very cool idea and implementation of the theme (though it would have been better if there was some sort of explanation of why they died after 10 seconds).

It was a bit annoying that I could not preview/see the entire level when planning. I had to select 3 people who probably wouldn't work, scout the level, then figure out my plan. The puzzles overall were pretty well designed (though level 3 is really hard for only the 3rd level).

The music gets a bit grating after a bit, but I just muted it, so it was OK.

Overall, graphics and gameplay were excellent! Good job!

Direct Interval by Kerinova Studios 2013-08-26T06:07:00

It's really cool that you managed to put in all of those "extra" features, and that it works for Windows phone. Including a level editor is pretty impressive for the amount of time.

That said, there are a lot of really big problems with the game:

1 - I'm sure you're not an artist (neither am I), but the tiles don't just look pretty bad, but it's extremely unclear what each thing is. I seemed to die from hitting some stuff (not just the spikes/running out of time) and I had no clue why. The colors that you chose are extremely hard to look at. Honestly, a purely black and white game would have looked better.

2 - the platforming controls themselves are very flat. Only 1 speed (seems like there might be a small amount of acceleration, but it was negligible), jumping seemed to be slightly different if I tapped/held down, but not really enough to make me feel in control of it. Punching seemed like it had an extremely short range.

3 - The text in general is nearly impossible to read (one line goes over the level itself, and it's just too small in general). You'd have been better off putting the instructions in the readme.

I do really like the character you created, and the enemy hats are cute too.

I think you should focus a bit more on core gameplay, and less on the extra features.

10 Second Waves by Erigitic 2013-08-27T05:26:00

Awesome that you completed a game! Here are my thoughts:

1) I couldn't move 2 directions (diagonally) at once, and if I hit Up, held it, and hit Left, I started moving left. This wasn't a problem, but RELEASING left (while still holding up) did not seem to make me start moving left, which quickly confused me.

2) I killed 3 zombies at a decent pace, and then all of a sudden like 15 spawned on the screen. Is this intentional? Some of them spawned literally right on top of me. Ease up the difficulty!

3) After I killed THOSE, only 2 spawned, but those 2 seemed to have much more health than all the others? I was confused by this a lot.

Mission Improbable by L0gicaL1nsanity 2013-08-27T05:33:00

Nice game/graphics! I love the windows in the background. Adds a lot of character.

The game starts a bit slow for my tastes, and then becomes pretty repetitive, but it was still a good job.

LevelUp! by m110 2013-08-26T20:28:00

Got a score of 96! Level like 20 or something.

Very good and basic concept that was executed well.

The sounds were terrible though. Sounds like they were made with BFGR (nothing wrong with that), so next time spend a few more minutes finding sounds that AREN'T incredibly obnoxious.

Good fun stuff besides!

Big Sad by Daniel Debert 2013-08-26T05:57:00

It's a good attempt! The pixel art is very nice looking and you've chosen good colors.

In a platformer, having the camera lag BEHIND the character is pretty annoying. If you move to the right, you actually can't see where you're going at all. Consider locking the camera to the player, or playing with those settings in general.

Otherwise it's a pretty OK platformer, keep working on it and see if you can get it to a more finished state!

Canvas10 by Naked_Samurai 2013-08-26T06:45:00

I can't really figure out how I feel about this. On the one hand, it's not really a game (since I don't really consider the act of randomly making art a "game"), but on the other hand it's a really interesting idea and an awesome interpretation of the theme.

The color/tool choices were odd, but you definitely can get a lot out of limiting creative options, so that's OK.

What would have been really cool is if you could see what other people drew for various things.

Polarity Countdown by Mental Atrophy 2013-08-26T20:46:00

Overall a good try, but waiting 10 seconds for the changes, at least in these levels, just ends up being a chore. It was an interesting interpretation of the theme, but in practice it didn't make for a very good gameplay mechanic.

You got the platforming contrls done very well though! Good acceleration/friction.

The "slow down" sound ended up being realllly annoying. Sounded like you were going for something like Mario, but it was just actually really annoying to hear.

Music was very well done though.

Microbes by keyboardmonkey 2013-08-27T05:22:00

Game looks nice, but you're going to have a hard time getting people to play it when it requires that they have Python AND Pygame installed.

Mayfly by targaciej 2013-08-26T06:40:00

Graphics are excellent! Controls also are really nice feeling for flying. Good job making it feel responsive!

I found it pretty annoying that it took almost 3 seconds to eat the cupcake things. It seems like it would have been better/less finicky to just eat them and go on with it. I thought I had to avoid them at first, until I realized that there was no way to complete the 2nd level in 10 seconds.

There should be some more direction on where to go. Level 3 literally just had cupcakes and eye monsters flying randomly, and I couldn't find any of the whatever-I-am-eating things for 3 attempts. Gave up at that point.

Good game overall!

Too Many Anomalies by ehnaton 2013-08-26T06:31:00

Cool interpretation of the theme!

I wasn't a big fan of the background... it looked very busy and distracting. Same with the sounds.

However, the base idea is pretty cool! Good job.

10 Seconds Before Flush by Geeks-n-chicks 2013-08-26T20:37:00

Really nice graphics/art, the sound is OK too.

The levels seem... messed up? There's no way at all avoid the flowers on some levels. It was really odd. Also you say "kill em all!" in the description, but there's no attack...

Super Time Shoot by TheSambassador 2013-08-27T22:26:00

Interesting that you thought that the beam was a punishment... for me it's the best weapon easily. You can sweep it across the screen (move slowly, it won't kill things if you just wave it around maniacally). I usually get 4-6 kills per shot. The gun that I feel needs the most work is the Shotgun, and maybe Mines (both need a shorter cooldown). Unfortunately the shockwave weapon is very inconsistent as well, and I'm not sure why.

The only one by JaJ 2013-08-28T21:23:00

Very interesting, I felt compelled enough to keep going! The story and the idea are very nice, and the music and graphics are top-notch!

I felt the 10-second thing was pretty gimmicky, and really just served to be an annoying detour on an otherwise pretty basic adventure game. It did allow for some puzzles, but it was annoying to be exploring and hunting for tiny pixel differences and then be teleported back.

Still, the mood and the art really makes this game stand out. Nice job!

LD33 — You are the Monster

Galaxy Hop by AntonyBaasan 2015-08-25T18:43:00

Pretty cool! Seemed odd that there was so long of a delay between hitting space to set power and actually shooting. Needs some UI feedback there. The music and graphics were great! Moving was pointless, seemed better to attack 100% of the time.

Consumption by Aevek 2015-08-25T05:42:00

Not sure how to get sticks? I walked around for a bit and got rocks, but it wasn't clear how to do anything else. The graphics are neat, I really like the polygon bunnies and deer.

Hydrated by TnT 2015-08-25T05:44:00

Couldn't run, tried with java.exe on Windows 7, nothing happened, just said "couldn't load main class."

Office Hours by valid4life 2015-08-25T05:49:00

Pretty well put together! The sound and graphics specifically stand out quite a lot. I found the camera zoom to the soundtrack kinda annoying. I also liked the projectiles and how they sort of curved?

Memory of Psychopath by Givit Game Studios 2015-08-25T05:38:00

The voiceover is nice and pretty high quality, but the overall platforming controls are pretty terrible. I got as far as the red spikes level (if you die there you restart at the checkpoint at the last level, which is annoying).

I think the game is interesting, but the controls kept me from wanting to finish it. Good mood and music though.

Car of Monster by Alsatian Studio 2015-08-25T05:52:00

I liked the graphics a lot. The car especially. Driving downwards was pretty hard since you can't see anything. Also it's pretty unclear where people are coming from.

Ghost Haunt by Newan 2015-08-25T18:40:00

In general I don't want to have to "install" your game... Just provide the actual game itself so I can just unzip and play.

AM I? by DruhinM 2015-08-25T05:32:00

Wish there was a restart button! Wasn't really sure what the "strategy" was but you nailed the theme. Rest of it is somewhat bland but good!

SPACE JUNK by pixelgriffin 2015-08-31T20:43:00

Really great. Very impressive. The delay on the 2nd attack seemed to be a bit much, and didn't really seem to be doing that much more damage, and some of the sounds were a bit grating, but overall a very good job.

Decimation by MagentaGames 2015-08-25T18:38:00

Confusing that you're limited to blood spots to place towers. Not sure how much towers cost either, I just click until it works. Seems like it's pretty easy to just spam all of the main tracking crossbow things, but I only beat the first level. Good mood/theme stuff.

LD35 — Shapeshift

ShapeCrafter by EstrelSteel 2016-04-18T22:24:00

Honestly, not really sure what I am supposed to do on this. I am not really understanding how the "score" goes up, I don't really know why I would change the colors. I was thinking I had to fill the shapes, but the time given was not enough to do this at all. Even then, my score was never going up, and when it did it seemed to be completely random.

We Don't Know How to Approach You by Drusilla 2016-04-18T22:39:00

The x64 version didn't seem to work at all (it just said "No Game") until I also downloaded the .love file and put it in the same directory.

The "locals" seem to just spew an endless spray of bullets that eventually are undodgable. I did a Cow+moo and "beat" the game I guess, but there wasn't really anything that really made sense to me?

Vikoz by Zgragselus 2016-04-18T22:33:00

Beyond just making a million turrets/reactors, I couldn't really figure out how to progress past that. I got a bit bored after a few minutes.

ShapeShift by Doombox 2016-04-18T22:29:00

The graphics look quite nice! Seems like a pretty well done game overall. Reminds me of the games I made when I first was learning, but you've done a really good job with the visuals.

I'm not a huge fan of the static cameras and the awkward switching camera angles. I think a fixed camera that actually shows the level would have been a better choice. There are lots of places where it is unclear where you are supposed to go.

One note - your "settings" menu won't let you quit out of it, you have to restart the game.

Shift the shape by DcrDro 2016-04-18T22:43:00

Not bad! I would have definitely just included a Windows build as well at least, since the web player does not work in Chrome.

Controls feel pretty stiff, but I liked it overall. The elevator was kind of frustrating since you can't move fast enough. I didn't really know what the triangle was for. I beat the game!

LD37 — One room

Bad Dreams by Dogeveloper 2016-12-13T04:13:00

Not bad, but it looks like I need to restart the entire application in order to restart the game. When I clicked on Main Menu and Play again, it would start again, but I could not move.

It was a bit unclear to me how to actually hurt the tentacles? I shot at them a bunch, but nothing seemed to really happen. I also felt like your movement was overall WAY too slow. Q didn't seem to slow down time as much as completely stop me from moving.

It has potential, but it's hard to tell what's going on. I did really like the graphics though. The style was really nice, and the colors and particle effects were well done.

Rebirth by bplane2 2016-12-14T06:01:00

Great job! At first I wasn't really getting it, but after I realized that the room was getting darker things started to come together. Definitely freaked me out a bit, and the "twist" with the door shutting before you go through it at the end was great!

Amazing textures, sounds, and modeling for a 72-hour game. Seriously great work.

I would say a few things - the "head bob" animation is way too much. You can do a little bit, but this one was making even me feel a bit queasy, and I've played FPS games all my life. I'd also say that the walk speed felt a bit slow, but honestly that might have worked in the game's favor.

Overall great job!

Little Sandwich by NumNumDude 2016-12-14T01:01:00

To be completely honest, I'm not super excited about running an "installer" for a LD game. I think you'd be much better off just giving someone something that they can run from a directory.

Save the relics by 60fingers 2016-12-14T01:22:00

Very nice job! This game was surprisingly fun. I got about 2k points before I got a bit bored and let the game end. Was the "difficulty level" ever supposed to get harder than 4? It seemed like it stalled out a bit there.

The graphics were great, and I love the lightning flashes. It really set the mood, and all the art was really nice to look at.

The sounds that the demons made when they died got a bit grating after a while. I also felt like it was too easy to "accidentally" push a block by barely touching a corner, but maybe that added to the "chaos" of the game. Also, I had several waves in a row where I didn't have to move my relics at all, it might have been better to really cycle through ALL of the windows before letting a window be used again, that way you would have to constantly move a bit more.

Still, great job!

72 Hours by shnitzhell 2016-12-14T00:47:00

Pretty funny game! I like the concept a lot, and the little room (and your little dog) was pretty cool.

I wish the game would tell you why you "died", for example I ate the Thai leftovers and the game ended? Then I was at about 95% completion and I didn't help my grandma and I "died"?

Also, it seemed like a pretty OK strategy was just to drink energy drinks and eat cake. Not a great real-life LD plan :)

Strexter by Ryusui 2016-12-13T04:00:00

I really liked this! Cool to make it timer-based instead of just "touch this tile and you die." I think it would have been nice if the timer didn't start until you started moving. The room transitions were also really cool. Great work!

Squiddey (VR Only) by ShadowBrain 2016-12-13T04:46:00

The game looks and runs great! Your little squid guy looks amazing, as do the little dudes you shoot at. The core idea is a lot of fun, though as you said the level generator made lots of dead ends and impassible sections.

I feel like the projectile that the bats shoot is a bit too fast to reliably dodge, you're better off just constantly moving your hand. I also was not a big fan of the "hold the grip" to move, makes much more sense to just use the touchpad on your off-hand or even the trigger. I was essentially holding grip the entire time. I didn't get very far, as the level I was in seemed to have no way to continue (couldn't get close enough tot he walls to look through them.

Still, the character and the idea itself was really great!

Window Crawler by Chao 2016-12-14T00:59:00

Really cool idea! I love games that play around with windows/websites.

I thought it would have been cool if the placement of the window actually had an impact, like you were sort of "building" the level yourself. With this, I started putting windows together to have them flow logically, but it wasn't really necessary.

I kinda wish that clicking hadn't been attack, I kept accidentally clicking outside of the window and losing focus, resulting in me dying. Your attack radius was REALLY small.

Still, cool idea!

Room 2106-B by jotson 2016-12-15T06:30:00

Great mood and art, definitely interesting.

I'm not sure exactly what I am doing when I am spamming left and right? I get that the point is to let go, but am I resesitating him? CPR? Doing the "Clear" thing? It could be more "clear" haha.

Still, good mood and a cool idea. Great job!

The 5th Room by ahmedmohi 2016-12-15T06:11:00

Great mood, and really nice environment / mood. The textures, models, and music are all top-notch. That said, the gameplay leaves a lot to be desired.

The mouse movement was REALLY weird. I had a TON of "floatiness" with my mouse, where I would move, stop moving my mouse, and my view would continue to rotate as if it had some crazy momentum. Not sure if this was because I was playing in windowed mode.

Tons of things that I could interact with had really wonky "hitboxes", as in looking directly at them did not seem to "activate" them, I had to look at areas slightly away from them.

Finally, I had picked up a few things and walked around, I went to the places where the bodies are normally kept, hit E, and the game apparently ended? I have no idea what happened.

Great mood and graphics, still a great effort.

Same Room, No More. by Ampera 2016-12-14T01:06:00

Not a ton here, but it's a good effort. It seems like an odd choice to do a text-based game in its own huge window?

Things seemed inconsistent. In the first room, I could type "look" and see the room. Then I sat on the sofa, a door opened, and I moved into the room with the gladiator. I could not "look" here at all, it didn't recognize the command. I took the hammer, but didn't know what the game wanted me to type in next. With these sorts of games, the player really needs to know the "vocabulary" that the game is expecting of them, and some commands (like Look) need to be implemented everywhere. I got stuck since I didn't know what the game wanted me to type in.

Doors? NO! by pi_pi3 2016-12-15T06:12:00

Not sure how to play this? No executable, just a love file. Do I need to download Love to play this?

RoomZoom by TheSambassador 2016-12-13T17:11:00

@Squid - not sure why you would see that, do you actually have an HTC Vive and do you have SteamVR running?

@Kerr, you shouldn't be able to teleport into a place where your view goes black, though I have seen it happen for some reason on the last level, so you were probably almost done.

May The User Be With You by Cyberlight 2016-12-13T04:06:00

Not bad! I liked the environment. The shooting was not that satisfying though. You shoot realllly slow and it didn't really change at all through the game. It also was very unclear where the enemies were supposed to start coming from.

Blubje by Decentsauce 2016-12-14T01:13:00

This is a great LD entry! The game itself is playable and fun, and the fact it has a full editor / online capabilities is really cool!

I got to level 4 (I think) but wasn't really sure what the game wanted me to do and got a bit stuck. I was enjoying it though.

DecoVRation (VR Only) by Darkfrost 2016-12-13T04:28:00

Cool, but the room is too big! I have a pretty big playspace (3.5 x 2.5) and I couldn't reach some of the walls without banging my controllers on the wall.

I really like the little helicopter dude who brings you the paint, very cute. The "floppiness" of the brush is also amazing. I just wish I could have painted more!

DecoVRation (VR Only) by Darkfrost 2016-12-13T04:38:00

OK apparently I'm stupid and didn't realize that you could teleport. Got through the first painting section (painting is satisfying). I think that 2 minutes is probably too long. Then I got to the "hammer" section, which was cool, I hammered in 1 nail, and then my hammer disappeared.

The flying guy really got into my personal space WAY too much. Like... he would just fly right into my head and be directly in the way of where I wanted to paint. It was kinda funny though?

Overall, I was getting a bit bored by doing the same task for so long. Wish that the hammer didn't disappear. I think it's a cool idea though, well done!

Survive by rayriver 2016-12-14T05:48:00

Not the most innovative game, but still really well done! It's a really solid top-down shooter. The effects, the shooting, and the screenshake all make a really good-feeling game.

Definitely could have benefited from some pathfinding on the enemies. They got stuck on corners really easily and you could just snipe them.

It also wasn't clear how to upgrade the weapons. Didn't realize that I had to click on the icons in the bottom to do it until wave 4.

I did beat it, great job!

Squiddy by Tribbs 2016-12-13T04:55:00

I actually really liked this! Not sure how it had to do with the theme but it still was fun. The character was cute and all the little obstacles looked really nice!

I'm very unclear about what right click actually does. I honestly felt like I could move MUCH faster by rapidly left-clicking. Right click seemed to do very little mots of the time.

I liked how your health was represented as the little tentacles falling off, though that was very unclear at first as well.

Still, lots of fun, great job!

Mr. Barbel VS Hell Vise by onixowl 2016-12-13T04:17:00

Not bad! I am a little bit confused about how to stop things from crushing you... I solved the puzzles on the right pretty quickly, but still got crushed after 5 of them. Does beating a level move the crusher up a bit?

The graphics were nice and the guy you made was pretty cute. I'm not sure if I liked the "rotate" mechanics, as it didn't really do anything. I was expecting to "fall" when nothing was under me, but really "rotating" the room was just a different way of moving up and down. It felt more annoying to have to rotate than interesting. Still, this is a complete game, and the music is actually really kickass.

Claim Your Color by tybantarnusa 2016-12-13T04:22:00

Really cool! Great game, this was a lot of fun. I felt like I wanted to interact with the other squares a bit more, but the core gameplay was interesting. I did feel like it just ended up being "focus on clearing out whoever has the closest percentage behind you" once you are in first place. I think some more movement-oriented abilities might have made it be more fun.

I thought it was cool how you blacked out the percentages at the end, made it seem more suspenseful and a surprise!

LD48 — Deeper and deeper

The Deepest Threat by Goutye 2021-04-26T15:38:03Z

Not bad! Seems very loop-hero inspired. The art looks very well-polished and you have a ton of great monsters here!

I do wish the game had a bit more to it than just picking some equipment. Most of the time, I wasn't really offered that much of a choice, and it was fairly binary of "this is better" and "this is not better". Balance on these types of games requires a ton of playtesting though, which obviously isn't something you can do in a LD :).

Great work overall!

Press Space To Jump The Gap by foolmoron 2021-04-28T03:49:04Z

Really well done! The "instruction" text is great too, I was confused for a solid 30 seconds. There are some really amazing ideas in here that I never would have expected.

I did find the "zooming in" to be a bit annoying once you "get" the game. It felt a little finnicky and the noise started getting a little bit annoying, but it didn't ruin the experience.

I also am not sure if I missed a hint as to what scene I was supposed to select, I spent a good 5 minutes trying to figure out why the invisible zone that was enabled and set to "win" wasn't working. Then I finally decided to look at every single level (had only looked at 2-3 of them) when I figured it out.

Really great job.

Dig Dog by jacic 2021-04-26T15:29:56Z

Great music and art! I liked the dirt effect - much better than a boring brown tile, and the digging through it effect was well done!

The game itself is a bit slow, 99% of the time you just are holding the down arrow. The ghost didn't even come close to being a problem and I stopped playing before it caught me. I think that tweaking the enemy behavior, decreasing your starting energy, and adding more pickups to grab would make this a bit more interesting. Great work!

DDR: Dive Dive Revolution by Tyrannas 2021-04-30T15:16:57Z

This is a really neat idea, and I really enjoy the art! I wish I could have gotten a bit further, but even as a person who loves rhythm games, I could not seem to really "get" this one.

- The audio seemed like it was popping a bit, and it seemed to start getting off-beat from the song sometimes. Even once I had memorized the pattern, it was clear that things were getting out of sync.

- You have a pretty generous timing window it seems, but it's very unclear where the actual "beat" that a "perfect" timing would be at. Is it immediately when it shows the "highlight" on the arrow? I think an actual scrolling DDR-like UI would have been much better here to properly communicate the actual beat it wants you to hit at.

Besides these, I really enjoy these rhythm + something else types of games. This could be very cool with a bit more refinement!

Nuclear Chaos by pixlark 2021-04-29T03:44:40Z

Not sure if this requires some redistributable installer or something, but I get errors about missing DLLs when I try and launch the game.

> Retrieve Legs by UC101 2021-04-26T19:37:39Z

Great entry! You've got a unique mechanic, great art, and a pretty big amount of content! Nice job!

My only thoughts are: - The darkness doesn't really seem to fit the gameplay here. It just made the walls harder to see, and since you were forced to move in these big impulses, you just run against the wall a bunch. - I really liked the overall shoot behind you to move and then swing forward to hit with melee. That said, having enemies with contact damage made it pretty difficult to not take damage when killing enemies. The spiders seemed nearly impossible to avoid damage (though obviously you regen). I think some knockback/stun effect to the weapon would have been nice.

Great job!

Mr. & Ms. Deeper: Descent to Inner Depth by SIGILL 2021-04-27T18:46:32Z

Not bad! I liked the splitscreen, and swapping back and forth was a cool idea. My only thoughts: - It was pretty unclear what each button did, especially for the doors. It seemed like the only difference between an open and closed door was the little handle, which I didn't even see at first. I didn't even realize that some (all?) buttons were timed until I messed up in level 2. Some more dramatic animations might help, or you could link the buttons and doors with colors to signify the link. - I didn't really know what the red arrow was supposed to signify? Seemed like it might be pointing towards the other player? - Player move speed was pretty slow. You could easily double the movement speed and get a nice result.

Overall, great job!

Love's a Mystery by Bamallama 2021-04-29T04:03:12Z

Overall solid start. Art was charming! Story was intriguing, was a little confused at the cliffhanger ending and thought that the game had broken.

Sonder (a story) by Noble Robot 2021-04-30T15:43:27Z

Incredible art, audio, and mood! So many little touches: the unique audio clips on some items, the dust in the air, the subtle animations! I definitely felt immersed in this room and the feelings of returning home.

Small bug - I did notice that when I tried to start a second game (clicked "look again") the camera shifting when the mouse moves around stopped working. The camera was completely static.

Great job!

The Space Between Us by LaneDavis 2021-04-27T16:02:05Z

Incredibly complete game! Art is incredible, voice acting and dialogue is great!

It felt like I missed some voice lines due to random stuff breaking mid-dialogue, which was fine, but I'm a little sad that I missed some stuff :D.

The larger 4x4 and bigger doors were a bit tedious to unlock, I feel like they could have maxed at 3x3 and been fine.

It really threw me through a loop (in a good way) when the password game told me to NOT type in the password.

Overall, great job!

7 DEEPS by ardorugus 2021-04-29T03:42:48Z

I'm not sure if this is too avant garde for me or what... but I didn't understand this at all. There was no real story, nothing really to latch on to, it was just some text that was given at random.

The art was definitely the high point for me, the tree that you have as an image above is really cool! The fish were also pretty cool, but it seemed like they would only show for like a frame?

Very unique game!

RogueRally by ComicSans 2021-05-06T17:04:33Z

Great work! This is a really nice gamejam entry that plays really well and is a solid foundation for expanding a bit. The robo-rally mechanics work great with the procedural puzzles! The audio is also very well done.

My only feedback would be: - The "diggable" vs "non-diggable" tiles didn't have enough of a difference. Seemed like the diggable ones were just slightly brighter? - The "diggable" tiles didn't seem functionally different from just an empty tile? It didn't take more "movement" to get through them, you just kinda dig through. Maybe you can't back up through them, and that's the only difference? I didn't get a chance to test this out. It seems like maybe the player should be incentivized to NOT dig when it's an option, instead of digging being the same as not digging. - There didn't seem to be any penalty for digging/taking forever. You don't even really get a score on how many "hands" you take. I started out assuming that I could "fail", but then once I hit depth 8 I just entered in random hands and there didn't seem to be anything keeping me to task. This isn't the worst thing, but it does remove any illusion of "challenge" when there are no penalties for mistakes. - Very very small thing, but you probably don't need to ask the user for a "seed" every single time. Maybe on the "initial" seed when they start the game, but it's a bit confusing to see basically the same "prompt" between every level. - There were times that the conveyor-belt tiles were confusing to me. Sometimes I'd move onto them and end my turn, and they'd move me 2 tiles. It seemed like rotating on them moved me 1 tile at a time. I guess it was just basically "end a move on them and you move, end your turn on them and you move" but it was a bit confusing.

Overall, great job!

Crab vs Clam by Lopapagames 2021-04-29T03:33:10Z

Neat crab game, I liked the crab. He phased out of the aquarium at some point and made weird noises at me, not sure if that was correct?

Some more detailed instructions or player feedback would be good here, I didn't understand why our score was going down.

Deepest Space by ItsIsaac 2021-04-30T15:07:58Z

I'm not sure if the game is working at all for me, or if I'm missing something.

- There are 3 different files showing on your itch page, which is the correct one? You should hide old/incorrect versions

- There seems to be a lot of audio popping/clipping happening for me, though the audio does sound nice if it weren't for the popping.

- My ship doesn't really seem to move. I was able to point myself away from the starting planet and kind of move into general blackness, but there was basically no gameplay to speak of. I tried playing 5 times, 4 of those my ship would literally not move at all.

Wish I could try it!

Underground by Halogen 2021-04-26T19:28:09Z

Yep, link does not work.

Dwarf Mine by Kmoor 2021-05-06T17:17:55Z

Nice entry! It does feel like you could have used a bit more time, but the graphics were nice and I liked the music!

Feedback-wise: - It's very hard to see stuff in the area directly around you. A small circle of light around the main character (in addition to the headlamp cone) would have been great so that you could at least see your feet. - The punch feels very awkward to use. This is probably mostly due to very subtle animations and the difficult-to-see red hit flash on the enemies. You should make it clear the general "hit area" of a punch if you can't communicate that with an animation. - Similarly, it was pretty hard to kill the bats, since they don't get stunned/knocked back when you hit them, and they phase completely into you and stay inside of you if you let them. This type of enemy likely should have 1 health, or it should at least get knocked back when you hit them (and you should get pushed back a bit when it hits you). Right now, they just sort of phase into your body and you awkwardly have to run away and then try to attack them. - Spiders were very hard to see and they seemed far too quick. Give the player a chance to fight them! Have them come down more slowly, but start descending earlier instead of when the player is directly below them.

Honestly this game has a ton of charm and works really well for a LD jam game! Good job!

To Descend by ToniO 2021-04-27T18:34:20Z

Great work, I really enjoyed the dialogue. Also, while the music was a bit loud, it was quite good!

Every fight seemed pretty similar, I just ran up and spammed the attack button. Sometimes I would get hit, but I'd have no idea why. Some attack animations or some sort of hit animation from you would have worked wonders here.

I really enjoyed the dialogue. A small improvement would have been to allow players to speed up the text speed by hitting space or something else. I could read the words faster than they appeared most of the time.

The core idea of the game is great! Unfortunately it seemed to bug out towards the end (fighting something that looked like a poop?). I "defeated" him but then it gave me some nonsense text and wouldn't progress any further.

Gemfall by TAIGHA 2021-04-26T21:52:47Z

Art and overall presentation is very nice! The controls (on Windows) seemed a bit odd to me, though I know that it was made for Android.

My biggest issue was that the hitbox (for collecting gems) felt unnecessarily small. It's a good idea to have a larger hitbox for collecting things and then you can still have a small hitbox for colliding with the hazards.

Great job!

Introspection by Zuwu 2021-04-29T19:52:23Z

This is a really nice entry! I beat all 4 levels. As @2bitcrook mentioned, having auto-fire (hold down to keep firing) and increasing the shooting speed would have helped smooth this game out a bit. As-is, the bosses are a bit too tanky without a varied enough movespeed, so beating them was a bit more of a slog. If they had more varied movesets it might have helped. Overall, other than the 1st level, all the bosses seemed to require a kiting strategy except the last one, which maybe required occasionally dashing away instead of just running.

The audio is great in this! The shooting sound blends so seamlessly into the music - it's really well done. Each track worked well to convey the emotion/mental condition for each level.

Great job!

Danger Rat by Studio Gomp 2021-04-29T04:18:08Z

Nice job! Background art specifically was the standout here - it looked really nice. The rest of the art was also great and had a lot of character.

I didn't love how you had your momentum killed by hitting stuff, it just kinda felt bad to bounce so much. I liked the birds.

Overall, great job!

The game also tried to launch in SteamVR (I have a VR headset), not sure if there's some Unreal Engine stuff going on there.
