This was real good! One of the first games I've played here where I got that nice arcade thrill. I really liked the kill enemies to regain health mechanic. My only sadness was the practicality of survival encouraged me to slow down when my true desire was to scream down into hell like a manic murder rat.

The homing enemies are the worst! But in a good way.

ticetunes 2021-04-27 02:03

This was fun to play, easy to learn, hard to master. I did miss having no sound in the game, it'd have really added to the experience. The documentation that goes with it is well done, and it all has some good polish to it. The movement of the rat feels good, the steering is just clunky enough to be difficult, bot smooth enough to feel fun. Good job!

gharliquebread 2021-04-27 02:15

I had a lot of fun playing this one! Loved the designs, but I never found the cheese :( It ran very smoothly, and once I got the hang of the attack/bounce, I was able to go quite a ways before dying. I did my best to avoid the enemies rather than fight them. I liked the survival aspect, but if there was to be a focus on fighting, a dash attack would def be the way to go. Great job!

twigg 2021-04-27 02:23

@ticetunes I'm not sure what happened to the sound in your game. It's been working for every one of us who has tested. Try the volume slider in the main menue?

ticetunes 2021-04-27 02:40

Turns out I had a sound problem on my end, I fixed it. Ignore what I said about sound! It's good!

drew-abegg 2021-04-27 02:41

@ticetunes glad to hear it!

cottonfloweryellow 2021-04-27 03:50

Pretty jammin' music. The background and characters are really cool.

thementalsheep 2021-04-27 03:53

This was incredible the music , the art everything was just great and so well polished. I had so much fun playing this absolute master piece of a game jam submission.

loowees 2021-04-27 04:52

I really liked the background art :) Also the bounce/slash mechanic is really neat.

erkanec 2021-04-27 06:15

Artstyle, music and gameplay are incredible! Very good game.

craplex 2021-04-27 11:43

Fun game, cool style and music. PROPS!

tomlbarden 2021-04-27 11:53

This is great fun! I agree with everything @abigailcorfman said. It'd be great to see some sorts of power-ups in a v1.1 of this game, especially something which would let you temporarily bust through all kinds of blocks and increase your speed. You could also build some little platforming sections with the slash bounce mechanic! See, this is the problem with game jam games I like: I always want more of them, scope limits be damned!

bereg 2021-04-27 12:51

It's a cool game, I liked the fluidness of the motion. It has some bugs: the main character texture is constantly turning into a low-res version, the UI is messed on 1920x1080, it just doesn't fit. Also sometimes the rat is obscured by the UI on the right side of the screen. Other than that the game is great. It feels nice, the art is wonderful and the music is just the best. Congratulations on finishing it with such a huge team! It must have been hard to manage such a crowd.

chiyeon 2021-04-27 16:13

Great job everyone! The game was super fun to play; I thoroughly enjoyed cutting through enemies and testing my reaction time with the fastest of clicks in order to just barely save myself by cutting through cracked tiles or bouncing out of what would have been the career ending fall. The music, art, and enemy variety were all super solid as well!

rubiia 2021-04-27 21:04

This was a really fun little game. I'm a sucker for anything to do with Rats so the fact I got to BE a rat as I perform death defying acrobatics made it the perfect game for me ^^ The movement was fluid and the controls were super responsive which made the experience very enjoyable. The art style was suitably cartoony; though I don't know if it was just me but our dear protagonist was a little blurry to my eyes. The music was also very impressive and I found myself jamming along to the background music whilst hanging off the chain at the start. Again; probably an issue on my end but for some reason it made my audio crackle a little but otherwise a really simple game with a really solid core gameplay loop. ^^

konrad 2021-04-27 21:38

Wow. This is really incredible, probably my favorite of the games I've played this far. You're quite a large team that evidently knows its stuff and it really shows. There are so many different aspects that work really well here. The basic gameplay concept consisting of the horizontal movement of the rat and the "bounce slash" has a nice high skill cap without feeling unfair or janky. The level generation doesn't get too repetetive and has well thought out individual challenges. The background models also are amazing and seem to be never ending, it makes you thrilled to get further each time and see what's left to uncover. My personal highlight is the music, however. It has so many cool individual parts that I look forward to listen to everytime, including the guitar, piano and the old school-sounding midi-like instruments. It's not just well mixed and produced but has melody in everythin, which I only see very rarely. I especially like the "synth-choir"-part as it greatly accentuates a descent into hell, I feel. To give some criticism, some of the art in the game does not - while being great individually - fit together too well, especially regarding color scheme and level of detail. It's also hard to make out what the more detailed enemies are supposed to represent while you're in the process falling. There could have also been a few more foreground details that match up with what you see in the background. These are minor issues however, and as someone who's also in a team of (this time 6) students, I know that group coordination is always an extra challenge to overcome. Great work!

Really dynamic game with very enjoyable controls, mechanics and overall aesthetic. Who knew that being a danger rat could be so enjoyable ?

Strenghts : - Impeccable visuals and audio - Dynamic controls scheme - Good balance... and overall fun !

Possible improvements : - Simply pushing ennemies away is sometimes counter-intuitive, but I guess it's part of the design :)

Great game !

nyanpierre 2021-04-27 23:50

really nice audio !

1minatur 2021-04-28 04:07

Awesome! I really enjoyed it. Had lots of fun attacking the birds and snakes and stuff. Music was a banger. It was really tough reacting in time to dodge obstacles at times, but that's partially probably due to my slow reaction time haha. And then I had a slight bug that froze me at the top a couple of times. Pausing and restarting it fixed it, so was still able to play.

tanner-shelton 2021-04-28 07:30

This one was lots of fun! I really loved the parallax background with the 3d artwork. Excellent job on that one. I liked the gameplay as well. I kept losing as I couldn't take my eyes off the artwork. Good job!

link270 2021-04-28 07:52

Very fun. The movement was super fluid which make playing very pleasant. It could be hard at times, but was never frustrating which is a great accomplishment. Awesome job!

studio-gomp 2021-04-28 13:20

Thank you for letting us know about the bug @1minatur!

truechips 2021-04-28 13:33

very cool game, tho it kinda lags of my computer xd. Not your fault of course, but I had to mention it beacuse it can affect my rating of the game, without me noticing (The fun section) so yeah. Overall tho very cool

P.S. I still tried to make my rating as not affected as possible, so it shouldn't be a big difference

studio-gomp 2021-04-28 15:20

@truechips I'm sorry about the lag! I hope you were able to enjoy the game regardless.

truechips 2021-04-28 15:39

@studio-gomp I was. Thanks!

ekaterina 2021-04-28 19:41

A fun and dynamic game. Quite unusual and interesting mechanics, I also really liked the music.

doctortm 2021-04-28 21:38

Great and fun game! Took me a few tries to understand how to use the attack to avoid blocks as well. The parallax effect in the background is awesome!!

larsdu 2021-04-29 04:12

Reminded me of downwell, but the size of the game was a bit too large given its nature. Perhaps a more pixel art style would be better suited

breadstick 2021-04-29 04:16

Remember when Gandalf stopped the balrog from attacking the Fellowship by bringing down the bridge, and as they fell into the dark and rocky core of Middle Earth, they engaged in a sick mid-air swordbattle? It's like somebody said "yes that but what if it were rats and hell?"

The controls are silky smooth and responsive. The background hellish landscape is amazing, featuring fun design and clean integration with the rat's falling and bouncing. The game is clearly one that rewards quick reflexes and thinking, but it works consistently to where that's no problem at all. Nothing plays worse than finnicky reflex games, and this isn't one of those.

The music is fun, and the enemy types are varied--at least I think, as it's hard to appraise them when falling in a blur. I did get a strange glitch where the rat was blurry on spawning by the chain, but it seemed to wear off as each run went on.

Overall, a very polished and fun experience!

thesambassador 2021-04-29 04:18

Nice job! Background art specifically was the standout here - it looked really nice. The rest of the art was also great and had a lot of character.

I didn't love how you had your momentum killed by hitting stuff, it just kinda felt bad to bounce so much. I liked the birds.

Overall, great job!

The game also tried to launch in SteamVR (I have a VR headset), not sure if there's some Unreal Engine stuff going on there.

studio-gomp 2021-04-29 04:56

@larsdu Yes, our game was largely inspired by downwell. I'm not sure what you mean by too large, could you elaborate on that?

@thesambassador Yup, we made the game using Unreal. I appreciate your feedback about the bouncing, though it is a very integral part of the game. Do you have suggestions on how to make it better?

miej 2021-04-29 05:01

guys this was so good. congrats! was a ton of fun to play. music was great and it played like a charm

substain 2021-04-29 10:19

Cool game, especially the attack = brake idea is interesting :)

thegrandpa 2021-04-29 13:09

Very fun!

jfroggg 2021-04-29 15:39

image_2021-04-29_113915.png

That's the best I ended up getting. Really hard but fun. I really like the perspective of the background as you descend further.

laurent 2021-04-29 16:00

The game was a bit laggy unfortunately :( The background art is very well done though, as is the parallax!

studio-gomp 2021-04-29 16:12

@laurent I'm sorry about the lag. Our team didn't seem to have any issues with that, but all of us do have good computers. I hope you were still able to enjoy the game!

hybitous 2021-04-29 19:41

I love the music and the smooth & snappy controls! It also launched SteamVR for me (my headset is connected). The parallax background is also a nice addition and suits the style very well.

savegor 2021-04-29 22:17

Very simple and really fun!

ninjacatz 2021-04-30 13:36

Исходный текст Good job! It was quite fun to play, although I used attack constantly to avoid obstacles. It also seemed to me that the locations are constantly repeating, but I'm not sure about that.

joedev 2021-04-30 15:32

A fun and effective concept! My high score was in the mid 500's, I learned that I didn't have to hit every enemy and could just free fall and dodge them all instead haha.

The concept of the main mechanic of using your 'attack' to bounce back up was interesting, it reminded my a bit of downwell's main mechanic, but you have the addition of not pushing you back up unless you hit something with your attack which I think adds a little extra something to it, which is good!

The art was cute and fun, and there were some cool looking enemy designs. The audio was catchy and went well with the fast-paced gameplay which i liked too.

Good job on your submission team! I know its not easy with that many contributors to organise it all, but you pulled it off :)

daniel-whittaker 2021-04-30 18:53

Great little game! Very easy to jump into and satisfying gameplay and it looks really polished, great work on the art!

lesinvisible 2021-04-30 20:08

Very fun concept and a strong art presentation to support it. I also liked the level of polish in this game.

andrewaprice 2021-04-30 21:42

Very good and unique mechanic!

kirby 2021-04-30 21:47

Great game! So cool idea and mechanics. Good luck and my congratulations <3

ardorugus 2021-05-01 02:43

Liked playing, however it felt badly optimized. Random levels are cool. Gameplay felt too fast, though. Wanted some backstory and funny cartoon-ish sfx. Might become a very solid bestseller, keep up, please! P.S. Something phallic about this rat...

mhorth 2021-05-01 19:34

Wow this was good! The simple controls mean it's easy to just jump in and start playing, there's no learning curve or trying to remember what button does what. I was amazed at how good the aiming felt too. I was expecting I'd have to overshoot with my mouse to get the rat to move where I wanted, but it followed my inputs super well, really good job with that!

I want to leave you with one idea for improvement, but it's so minor. It seems that the hitbox for the rat includes the sword, so if I let the tip of the sword hit a rock, I'd take damage. I had to remember that the hitbox while swiping was much much farther down, so I had to swipe early. If there was some way to indicate where the bottom end of the swipe hitbox will be, or maybe take the sword out of the rat's hitbox, it might help?

Awesome job, you should all be very proud!

catanyaw 2021-05-02 10:42

BGM is so good! Reminds me of Castlevania for some reason. Great game

shumarie 2021-05-04 20:47

I liked the mechanic because bouncing off objects is very fan and helps you slow down. The rat sprite is not detailed enough relative to other objects, especially the background. Despite this, the graphics are beautiful.

neontropics 2021-05-15 14:22

Sorry wrong game comment..
