The art and sound is good! The attacks feel satisfying, though it's a little annoying how the crab stands still for so long after attacking, and there are a lot of potions so you can kinda tank everything. It's fun though!

This is such a great game. It's amazing what you managed to accomplish in such a short amount of time. I played to the end and had a blast. It's the best game I've played so far. If I had to nitpick, I would say that the game needs a catchy tune and less spikes (those are annoying). Very inspiring.

Fun game! Because the attack speed is so slow and potions are so abundant, I just rushed through enemies without killing them and just healed up.

Is the boss the big static guy with tentacles eyes or something ? I just killed him and then had to walk for a while before getting to another level. After this next level the game just kinda froze on a menu and I couldn't do anything, seemed like a weird end-game title, so I'm not sure if I finished the game or not^^.

The sprites are great, I enjoyed the game.

The sound of deflecting a ball was too loud for me, maybe it's no scaled by the volume? Also I found a bug: you can heal after dying.

That's a really nice game LD entry. The art is really lovely. The gameplay works well. I actually like the very long attack, it forces you to be more deliberate. But it might be a bit repetitive during the levels (too many levels maybe?). When I faced the first boss I actually liked that it forced me to combine the dodge and attack, it was a nice pacing break.

The game was fun, and I liked it enough to go to a boss.

I would have liked more different attacks, but in 48h maybe it was difficult to achieve. Also, I agree that the enemies probably give to many potions.

Amazing game. The graphics are super good. As someone else said, the sword animation could be a bit faster, and there are a bit too many health potion (but as it's a jam game, that's probably a good thing). I found it really weird that the roll can't go forward, but then again, it's a crab, it makes sense. It's a bit sad that the level transition is as it is, just a tiny animation of the crab jumping down would have added a lot I think. I don't really understand how charging the attack work, why would you hold the button instead of just hitting it when you want to attack, but that might be a unused or not completely implemented feature.

Overall, super good game and really, those graphics are insanely pretty o_o.

Excellent game! I really liked the crab character with its ridiculously long sword. The game was very satisfying - hitting about 5 enemies with a single strike always felt good. The attack ending lag was a bit long, and there was one annoying spike section which required two very well-timed rolls that felt a bit out of place, but other than that, great entry!

@loig Another attack is probably a good idea, maybe a weaker attack with less endlag or a projectile of some kind. For the potions I tend to make jam games too hard in the past so this time I was going for the safer side lmao. Thanks for playing!

@masaru The charge attack does more damage which lets you kill enemies it a single hit if you're patient. That should probably have been communicated better in game! And yeah, the level transition is something I really wanted to add but was running out of time. Something for the future though! Glad you liked it and thanks for the compliments!

Great game, it was very fun. Cooldowns between attacks and being active was a little too long imo, in terms of doing swift attacks and then dodging right after, then again it's a small crab with a giant sword. What can you expect? :D

I was thinking of making it so that you could roll out of the end land which might help. But yeah, it's just a poor little crab. Thanks for playing!

Absolutely adore the art and general aesthetic. The controls were a little bit clunky and the rolling sometimes felt unresponsive but still a great game.

This was fun! After a while I didn't bother fighting anything though and was just running through the levels. I would gather up a ton of guys who would then kill each other with their attacks. It is really cool that works though! I like how the spear frog attacks reflect the shots of the other guys!

One thing that was a little frustrating was there was no indication of where in the y plane the shots were going to hit. Maybe adding a simple shadow would help? For instance, I was trying to walk between the two worms in one level but I was repeatedly hit by their shots even though I wasn't in line with them.

@minibobbo I found projectiles tricky since it's hard to add a sprite since if they are shot at an angle the shadow wouldn't adjust if it was part of the sprite. I made it so that the hitbox was just in the projectile but it's not intuitive. Glad you found another strategy to get through! It's cool to hear about that stuff. I love the precision and satisfaction of the controls, they're really well done. It would be interesting to see what other monsters could be added that contribute to the sword attacking mechanic. overall, It was great fun. I got to about floor 5.

Great game! I liked the Y axis movement and sending projectiles back. That made for some interesting gameplay moments where I waited to attack so I could send the projectile back and hit the melee enemies at the same time. Art style was great as well!

One of the best games I've played so far this LD. Very polished, art, music, gameplay, everything fits together nicely. It also has the perfect length for completing it before rating. Maybe a small bug (?): bullets pass through dead bodies when shot by the eyes, but not when deflected by me, but once you know it, you get used to it.

Other good game for a compo! I already have big respect for people that try the compo, but finishing a game with also sprties and music? The overall feel of the game is really nice, the combat is snappy though it does get repetitive after some time, but its understandable the project being a compo. Another thing is I know we are in a cave in the game, but I don't really get the feeling really well that I'm going deeper and deeper. Maybe if the background would have changed more and if the lighting got darker it would reflect it better. But it was a very nice experience anyway! Great job!

Haha, that was cool! Congrats on managing to put an actual boss in there! Fun story: I actually just tested an html5 game with controller support at random on itch, to see if an Xbox controller actually worked properly on a phone, only to find it was a LD game that I could rate :laughing: ! There's no escaping Ludum Dare I guess. So, double congrats, your game is also very fun on a phone!

Crab souls lol. This was rather fun. The pixel art was absolutely awesome and I loved the parallax in the background. The enemy types were cool as well and I loved how you mixed them up in the encounters present in the game. The combat was nice though things did get a little repetitive. I liked that you could reflect the bullets spawned but it was annoying that they still collided with dead enemies. It was a little hard to tell if you'd get hit by the projectiles spawned by the boss. All it needed was a shadow or something for the projectiles.

Still though, the game was damn fun

Nice work! Liked the character styles and gameplay. The attack may have been a little slow, but it worked fine, puts it on the player to commit to a swing. Would have been interesting to have some powerups and music, but this is still a great entry. Good job!

I saw this recommended my by itch. Which is such a shame because I would love to have seen it here in Ludum Dare. This is probably how you also got the ratings despite not giving as much, I bet. I don't know what magic you did, but that's how it is I guess?

Either way, this is a really good game with clear intent. All it is that it's lacking time, I bet. * I don't know if charge works. Do you mean "prepare attack"? * Greatly slow down movement when you prepare an attack instead of stopping for a bit of fine tuning and player agency? * The potion drops are too common, which incite tanking and spanking through all of it. * Which is entirely against what you're going for... but I bet you did it for playability! * That said "H" is pretty far compared to the rest of the controls... * The rolling was not obvious about the spikes in the tutorial, actually. * Y'know, since you could just skip the whole spike bed.. * I thought you could roll back to also avoid incoming attacks, cancelling the charge. * Maybe you should actually let the person traverse through spike to make it clear you could actually traverse it? I dunno... * I don't know but I feel the hud should be at the bottom? Just to make sure the player is taking note of their health but that's just me. * I don't want to say repetition, but repetition. That's not new to you when you literally just read this a few comments ago, but I don't blame you with the time restriction of Ludum Dare.. I honestly would do that too with the enemies.

I really wish there was more to this! You should really continue to improve it and maybe even let it be as a full game!!

Awesome entry! I especially loved the visuals. I just wish there was a little more variation in level design. Also, as many others have already mentioned, you get so many potions that it felt like you could just tank most of the enemy attacks. Anyway, great game.

I liked it! Would change just the speed of the attack/recovery (it is a little too slow for the deflecting mechanic), and add a few more frames to the animation for a more fluid movement, but overall a great job!

This was super fun! I love the art, but especially the character design.

The combat was good, though it felt a bit clunky and slow. I think somebody already mentioned that the attack is a little slow, but I also think that being able to roll in any direction would help too, given the player's slow movement speed, and how the crab moves pretty slow.

But, that's nitpicking - awesome job!

I love the crab swordfighter! This might be the most polished game I've seen this LD. The controls could have been a little smoother. The enemies were a bit too harmless. But other than that, there's little to complain about. For a compo that's really impressive! Wonderful job on such a fun little game!

It has pretty nice graphics, sad you couldn't made any music for it. It reminded me some of dark souls with the stamina system. But I think it's a bit too easy, I had so many potion i could just rush in without any care. I lower rate would have made things a bit more challenging i guess , especially against the final boss. Nice job :)

I really loved the pixel art and the idea! The main thing that stood out to me was that the hitboxes of the ground hazards were unclear, and you'd have to get really close to them to be able to safely roll over them. Like others have said, would have liked a tiny bit more in enemy variety/difficulty, but overall solid for the compo. :)

Ah! How cute! I loved pixel art! The characters are very beautiful and the parallax is very well balanced. The game is very well done. The mechanics are very good and sharp. I lacked a story (no matter how simple it was) and certainly music! Music is sorely missed.

A fun game! I enjoyed crabbing along and smacking enemies. Fun fact - you can go all the way to the last stage without having to fight enemies. The game has good quality for a compo game. Just sad at the missed opportunity to do a crab rave at the ending :D

Cool game! I like the interesting dynamic of the slow attack and roll, almost reminds me of a Dark Souls type game. The game felt a bit lacking in variety, only having to face the same simple two enemy types over and over again. A shorter runtime or faster movement speed might have helped with that. I appreciate you taking the time to create a boss for the end, that was really cool.

Only small things id say to alter is that there should be an indication of two things 1. When you can swing next 2. A charging meter for charging your attacks

These two things can make it feel abit clunky. HOWEVER This is still such an awesome game was fun till the very end! Great art and gameplay. Good job!

That crab is adorable. It could use some different kinds of enemies as you go deeper, but really, it was a fun game. And it can get pretty challenging when you have a bunch of those eye ball monsters shooting at you at different times.

Very nice game! The graphics are great and the outlines work great with the sprites. The weighty combat is really good and felt easy at first until I met the first 3-eyeballs-at-once encounter. I'd have liked to be able to move just a tiny bit earlier after slashing, or otherwise to have more animation until you're ready to move again, as it sometimes ended up feeling a bit unresponsive. But who knows, maybe that would've made it too easy, as the strategizing on when to strike was great!

I did play through the whole game but mainly because of the written promise of a boss encounter - without that I'd probably have quit 1 or 2 levels beforehand, as the levels got a bit samey. The boss was very nice though, and overall it was a great entry!

Nice short game. Fun and simple, easy to play. The thing I liked the most was the art, they are really great here! The sound effects are also very good and fitting with the atmosphere of the game. The only thing I didn't like much was the knockback the crab does when he takes damage because this affects him for a little bit too much time and he gets hit by another huge amount of attacks. Maybe some really short invulnerability after getting hit would help with this. But overall this is a great entry, congratulations!

Liked the art in this, the crab with the giant sword was really cute and made it fun to play with going around swinging the sword. Liked that you were able to implement a boss but think there could have been less levels as they felt a bit too similar and would have been nice to reach the boss sooner.
