I like the 3d aesthetic, and being able to set your own difficulty by increasing speed to save time is a great idea.
I wonder what are the purple rocks tho ?
Finished it, level 5 and 6 were hard! Good artwork and fun to play. The game is not too long, which is good here, it doesn't feel dragged out. And great level design.
This was a nice little challenge. Very enjoyable.
I guess this entry is more about the proof of concept than the gameplay.
It's a great basis on which to build something imo. I imagine little slits in the wall through which you could see a creepy story going on next to your character or anything really, there's alot of possibilities here.
The way the character moves is interesting. I think the bumpiness of it is good, move-stop-move-stop. But I think the stops could be a little bit shorter tho, I think the best solution would be to have the movespeed gradually slow down but not to a complete stop, and then back up.
Just my 2 cents :)
Very original. Like the turtle and the hare, going slower is actually the fastest way to reach the end.
I enjoyed it.
Waow this is really challenging. I like it, the gameplay makes it so I want to play more to improve my results.
The light effect looks good, but I feel like it makes the overall game a bit too dark, not sure if it was necessary.
Moving around, especially in fights, is not easy. But it makes the melee kill heals mechanic more interesting I guess. Once you get the hang of it, blasting into group of enemies and spinning around is a lot of fun tho.
I loved the fights in the big room before the boss. Couldn't beat the boss tho, the fight was confusing and I couldn't understand how to damage him.
Very good game, I hope I doesn't sounds like too harsh on criticism, but the quality of the game is so good that I feel like sharing the detailed thought process I had while playing is the best way I can hopefully help. :)
Couldn't reach the end, but it was fun to try ^^
Love the idea of what going deeper means here. And the bird looks fantastic :)
Very original!
Fun game! Because the attack speed is so slow and potions are so abundant, I just rushed through enemies without killing them and just healed up.
Is the boss the big static guy with tentacles eyes or something ? I just killed him and then had to walk for a while before getting to another level. After this next level the game just kinda froze on a menu and I couldn't do anything, seemed like a weird end-game title, so I'm not sure if I finished the game or not^^.
The sprites are great, I enjoyed the game.
Ahh I can't beat Rousseau^^
Fun little game, it gets really satisfying when you start getting a good grip of it. The same kind of satisfaction I get from Tetris.
I think a great addition would be a key to speed up the hit once you cleared it's path. With a nice swoosh hit sound. It would make starting over the easier levels a more pleasent experience.
I really enjoyed it!
The itch.io link doesn't work. I think the project is not public there.
Okay I see what you mean by complicated under the hood.
At first I was wondering if it was just pure luck but that would be disapointing, and then I started to recognize some patterns.
I'll give it another try after I get some rest. I think this could get interesting, or frustrating :p
The gameplay being in sync with the music is a nice touch. I think there's a good concept here, only for the right crowd tho.
And you're not sure if there's an end or not... interesting. ;)
Clearly a lot of effort went into this game. The animations are great.
Fun little game, the art looks good.
I think the character would benefit from being in the light, would make the game feel more natural if he was lit and everything behind him was dark.
Very pleasent game.
The trophy menu is a great idea, makes you want to keep playing and catch them all.
The fishs looks good, the audio is enjoyable. I had a good time!
Interesting puzzle game, some levels are really hard. Moving to the next level is a bit clunky, and I sometimes pressed reset instead of next :x
I had fun searching for the three fishes. Last one was scary^^
Great concept, with more fish and things like caves to explore, it could make for a great chill type of game.
The artwork is really good!
Just like double dragon, I flying kicked my way to victory.
Great quality! The animations are sick, the music is nice, and the gameplay feels satisfying.
The game looks promising, it's really hard to understand where to start and why my constructions are falling tho.
It fits nicely with the theme and the music is nice. But I wasn't sure what to expect, a puzzle game or a ressource mining thing and it didn't help with the confusion. ^^
I'll give it another try to try and understand better how this works. Are the red ones more sturdy and just provide support ?
I greatly enjoyed this game, the artwork is fantastic. The news screen and random events are a great adition to the simple gameplay.
Octopus game = best game
Just kidding ^^
Loved the aesthetic and the sounds, you nailed the deep sea vibe.
Others have already pointed out the small issues with the movement, but overall impressive work for a 48hours game!
Fun game! Very challenging, I feel like part of the challenge is the overcomplicated controls. Maybe it's a design choice, but I feel like dashing doesn't need to use the same key as jumping (I ended up never using the jump again once I got the dash because I kept confusing the two actions), nor does it need to be a 2key action, one button to dash to the opposite wall would be less frustrating.
The art is nice. Level 5 is indeed bugged but is still winnable by the way. (it's the last level anyway, for anyone wondering)
Your water texture is great. I'll keep it in mind :)
Fun game !
The narration is a great addition, especially for a ludum dare game imo, it makes the experience much more enjoyable.
The mechanic of the final fight was interesting. Although I sometime had a bug where my ship would be of the wrong color (blue when I didn't have the buff or the other way around), I think it comes from hitting the boss then picking up and antibiotic before moving out of the enemy hitbox.
The link doesn't work :( The project is not set to public on itch.io I think
Nice game It feels really dark tho, but I guess it's necessary so the coins are harder to find.
Maybe if the player character was in the light himself it would make the game feel more welcoming.
I like the aesthetic tho, and the upgrade system is a nice addition.
Great job, the sounds and graphics are great!
The repetitve gameplay fits well with the theme, and the atmosphere is nice so it makes for an nice enjoyable little game.
I liked the art :) I wish I knew how to draw like that.
Very fun game ! I reached the top after several attempts.
The mouse sensitivity is really high, and sometime the stairs were completely blocked by the big dresser thing. Would be nice to be able to adjust sensitivity and maybe kick obstacles away, also different floor layouts.
But the concept works very well with the theme and is very enjoyable.
Incredibly well polished game, clean work!
I made a fantastic mosquito pancake.
The leaderboard is a great addition for any ludum dare game. I'm happy with my top 5 for now ^^
Thanks for the game, it was a lot of fun.
Finally a game that doesn't overdo the darkness thing^^ the light radius is just the right size, game is enjoyable.
Maybe a precision counter in conjonction with an objective like kill x amount of enemy before reaching depth x, would have added alot to the gameplay and replay value of the game.
Just a thought :)
This is so great, I thought I was entering a cave, turns out I was capturing a giant creature^^ Love the mechanic, so much potential with that chain. It's very satisfying when you can start to make huuuge loops.
The mole is so cute tho :( Good try tho, digging games are so much fun I wish I could have played it.
The artwork is great. The game is fun, I feel like I would enjoy it more if there was maybe more enemies but they spawned from further away. The quicker demons are hard to get when they spawn at the top while you are cranking the elevator.
At higher speed the background is a bit hard to look at.
Great artwork. Is there an end to the game because I couldn't get much further once I reached the pitch black levels?
Some submarines would spawn on the edge of the screen, with only half of it visible. Might be one of the browser-only bug tho. Maybe restricting the submarines so the'y can't spawn so far from the middle could fix it tho.
But definitely an enjoyable experience :)
Ouch I died just as I got back to the witch because I didn't have time to make the potion :(
The game looks great and I love the atmosphere. Maybe the controls could be a bit simplified, I feel like it doesn't come naturally.
The link doesn't work. I think the itch.io project is not set to public
Being able to watch the tree grow as you tend to its root, and maybe adding a few others ways to help it, would add alot to the game.
Interesting use of the theme tho!
I was so happy when I saw the theme because I knew I would see many games like this one, and I love digging games :p
I reached about 34'000 and enjoyed the game, but I had a lot of questions about what was going on.
- It took me a bit of time before I realized Oil and Water was found in the ground while drilling, but I'm still not sure what it is used for.
- I wasn't sure if Heat was a good or bad thing to have, at first I saw it super high and I was scared I was overheating, later I had frost on my screen so I figured I had to stay hot.
- Food I guess is just created in the greenhouse. But I'm not sure what the other stations do, does the engine just need to be repaired sometimes, does it provide other bonuses if it is manned ? And boiler room I have no idea, at some point I thought it gave speed, but i'm not so sure anymore.
These are just a few details I thought about, overall the game is excellent, I think it deserves great ratings. I'm just sharing what my thought process was while playing because I really liked it and I hope it can help you!
And the drill animation is fantastic!
Love the concept!
It looks nice, it feels nice. This is the kind of game where I would love to see more of it.
I like the concept, managing a worker while you build a defense. I was a bit confused at first too. But I think the concept is solid, could be a fun TD with a bit more options. (First thing I thought about was how do I build blocks of dirt ? I thought I had to move them around to build corridors).
The game works suprisingly well.
Becoming slower as your attack gets stronger is a really interesting game mechanic, and well integrated here.
The artwork is also nice, love the marks on the ground that accumulate as you attack.
Couldn't finish the last level but the game is so good I'll try again until I beat it! :)
No web link either ? not sure if you know, sorry! I'll check again a bit later :)
Hey this is a really fun game. I loved the concept, it could get quite addicting.
The artwork is wonderful, the game was really enjoyable. Found the city at 1200depth. :)
I like the invulnerability frame disguised with flares :)
I felt like I was doing pretty good on my first run and then I saw the score: 640m ^^
A turbo to increase the scrolling speed for when you feel confident could be a nice addition, as of now the time it takes to reach the bottom seems to be the same everytime, and does not change based on how well you are doing. Maybe I’m wrong ? It would also make starting over less of a hassle.
Also did you decide against putting a depth meter while playing ? Seems weird to have to die to know how good you’re doing.
Great quality and enjoyable, my next runs are doing better, I want to reach the bottom before I give it a rating :D
It takes forever tho, I played for more than 30minutes before I suicided because I wanted to know how deep I was : 8888meter
Great game! Very original and puzzling.
I struggled to get past the level where you have to slide through a tiny slit.
Help I need to know if he ever wakes up ? The gameplay works well I like having to switch between "healing" the guy and hunting down nuisances. I paused at 8:22, not sure if there's something special further. I think it would be nice if you could see the sun starting to rise at some point with some change in the lightning, to let the player know he's almost there.
Amazing game, my favorite so far. Haven't finished it yet but I will 100% give it more time to try and reach the bottom.
Clearly a lot of efforts was put in this one.
I had a few death because I clicked (instead of just releasing) when throwing the rope. Maybe a short delay after you throw the rope, before you can throw an other one, would be a nice little addition.
The art works really well in a minimalistic kind of way.
Playing as a school of fish was fun. I kinda felt powerless at times when sharks would rush towards me from the outer screen and being unable to dodge because the fish are so slow.
Is there a way to resplenish lost fish ? I feel like watching the school grow would add alot to the game.
Waow this was great. I was just moving around reading all the notes, and halfway through I was like: this is a shitty day, I wonder what will he do. Then I turned around and I saw the starting house in the sky and I realized, oh right, I jumped.
After that the ending felt a bit stale, I think it was great to make the player jump in the start, maybe instead of having an ending screen, bringing him back in his house in front of the jump somehow -> he might be reading all the notes over and over again trying to find a solution, he always gets to the same conclusion.
But overall a really good experience, I was sure this theme would bring some nice "deeper into the mind" games, but this one was the one that worked the best for me.
This is really inspiring. I like the concept and expending roots is somehow satisfying.
I like the questions at the end of each level, it gives an incentive to keep playing. Which is great for a quick game like this. It's also a clever way to poke at the theme.
I played to the end and it was enjoyable :)
edit : Oh and I just realised the name of the game, yeah very clever indeed, I like it^^
Ouch I got killed while I was spinning the wheel ^^ The game looks really good. The gambling animations are nice. Is there anyhting to do with the coins and gems I'm gathering or is it just for the score ?
Interesting setup, but I got quite confused trying to understand how to differentiate the 'right' and 'wrong' options. The art and sound works well!
Let me know if you can beat 1:48! ^^
Thanks for all the nice comments, I really appreciate the feedback :D
This was my first Ludum Dare, and I really enjoyed the experience. I thought it was just a nice personal challenge, but it's actually so much more than that. Seeing all the different contributions, what works and what doesn't, how other people approached the theme. It's a fantastic experience and I look forward to the next one :)
Thanks everyone, all those nice comments are incredibly motivating!
@youthfulidealism totally, and I'm still not completely satisfied with the movement of the tentacles, especially when the octopus is not moving, I tried tweaking the movement but it looked messy.
I'm thinking about adding a circle showing the aggro radius when the octopus move, it would make facing the eels less confusing. (also I think the image I chose for the game presentation doesn't help, since in game you aren't supposed to fight the eels with your arm^^).
@dimonoider To eat : Use right-click to attack small fish with your tentacles. Make sure you have enough stamina. Approach the fish slowly because if you go fast they run away. Once you are close enough just grab one by holding right-click on top of the school of fish.
The Windows url links to this page. Can't download the game.
Can't play the game, loading is stuck at 90% :/ Looks promising tho
