Really chill root-growing experience, I like the music a lot. It nails the theme of 'deeper and deeper' as you clear rocks to allow your roots to grow

Being able to watch the tree grow as you tend to its root, and maybe adding a few others ways to help it, would add alot to the game.

Interesting use of the theme tho!

Interesting take on the theme! I agree with @rossgosling its definitely a chill game, the music is really soothing. I did notice sometimes the rock wouldn't disappear when I held left click but that doesn't really hinder the experience much. Good job!

Neat concept, a few bugs, follows the theme perfectly.

Super chill. Fun idea.

I really dig the music! Cool little game, congrats on finishing!

Nice chilled game, I enjoyed the simple game mechanics. The music was relaxing. Nice entry.

@geniye actually if multiple roots are growing in the same area it can spawn multiple rocks in the same location. This was kept in to keep difficulty up. Since if roots decide to grow together rather then spread out you would not have more rocks to pickup.

But thanks for the feed back. As it is not clear that is happening.

Good idea,

The root generation work very well and the UI is very clear. You should increase the game speed to make it more challenging. Also you can add bonus weapons like dynamite or jackhammer.

Nice work !

Deep roots was a thought I had as well, but I couldn't figure a way to implement it. Two main concerns. First is that once you get underground, that's all your going to see for the rest of the game. Such a bright colorful title screen, then the rest of the game is brown. Perhaps seeing the tree between certain rounds would be more satisfying then the "tree health" UI bar. Second, it seems easy and repetitive. I removed almost every rock, three health was at zero, yet I kept going and going. I eventually lost on purpose just to see if it were possible. The music is nice and relaxing. The root generation looked interesting.

The music is fun but very short (repeats after a couple seconds). The game is repetitive, there is not much progression; it seems that there is a tool selection on the left but no other tool to get (lack of time?) I was also confused initially about how to go down (press down arrow?) since there was a lot of time after I remove the rocks before it would get going.

I got to level 35 or so but at some point there were more rocks than could be removed in the given time and I lost all my health in a few rounds, but the game failed to end when I reached 0 health.

fuzzypurplepixel 2021-04-28 00:06

@remram44 Yea the health was if it went bellow 0 it did not trigger game over and would continue to go into negative.

Neat branching trick.

Nice idea! The day/night cycle is a bit trippy though!

Thanks for bringing your game by my stream for playtesting! If you’d like to revisit the play and commentary you can view the highlight at https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1006134880

This reminds me of tilling my garden and finding a load of big dumb rocks in there. Interesting concept, but pretty basic. I like the diverging splitting roots, that is a nice idea. Here is the VOD: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1006566685
