LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Bad Night by vknauss 2021-04-27T23:22:29Z

Hi! I had some issues with this one, but it looks good and I like the atmosphere. The initial corpse-dragging section was a bit long, especially without music or a clear goal initially, but it made sense to get away from the road.

The mouse was backwards for me (both horizontal and vertical) making it hard to look around (but I didn't have to aim or anything so I managed!) I did have a crash once on entering the cave (console: "err: 1281" hundreds of time then "pure virtual method called"). That's on Ubuntu 20.04. The second time, nothing happening when I got in the cave and I didn't know what to do.

Bad Night by vknauss 2021-04-27T23:49:25Z

@vknauss There is no mouseconf.txt in the Linux release. I grabbed it from GitHub, but with both "false" and "true" it stays reversed :slight_frown:

The "err: 1281" starts about when the dog shows up, and unfortunately I still got a crash in the cave in my latest try. It is definitely possible I skipped a trigger the time when nothing happened, I wanted to start running soon since turning is a little hard.

Still, if you made this from scratch using raw OpenGL from C++ it is pretty impressive!

1.0.4 worked! I changed `vertical` in the `mouseconf.txt` and was able to navigate much more easily. I didn't get a crash, and the other error is gone too. I got to see the ending!

Journey To The Center Of The World by paulhocker 2021-04-27T23:41:56Z

Fun game! The music is short but works. I played multiple rounds but never could get to the bottom (high score also stayed at 0).

The oil is a little confusing at first, I wasn't sure if I wanted that much speed (but probably you need it for a chance to get to the bottom). The dials could use some kind of icon to indicate their purpose (e.g. temperature).

Oil also tends to be hidden behind other things, and gets picked up involuntarily.

Deep Bomb Galactic! by Gale-swift 2021-04-28T02:24:50Z

This is actually a lot of fun! I thought it was a bit of a joke, when I saw it was tetris but you had bombs. It also didn't seem too hard at first, but the difficulty really ramped up; the non-flat indestructible blocks and the fact that the targets aren't at the bottom really help! I never manage to stockpile much money, so it looks really balanced as well.

I think some sort of time pressure might help (but that might just be me, I'm sure a lot of people like to have more time). It also looks like you can drop bombs on the very left, but not on the very right (they bounce off of something at the top and drop sideways). Losing also uses the normal transition back to level 1 which is a bit surprising (I thought I'd gotten the shot ). Some of the bomb icons are also not obvious.

I found myself playing for 10 levels before I even remembered that you could unlock yet more types of bombs. That's my fault, the panel was right there, I was just so focused! I also found myself needing to bounce a bomb off of another bomb's blast, which was really satisfying.

The music is good but it looks from the description that you didn't make it, so I didn't rate that (am I wrong?)

Poopy's Journey to the Center of the Earth by Dr_V 2021-04-30T03:14:50Z

I thought it was very funny! My wife rolled her eyes a bit watching me play it, and said I was "pretty shitty at it". She did insist on trying it too though, and decided not to pick up any speed boosts which unfortunately seems like a viable strategy.

The jump seems a bit long, giving you no way to grab pickups or avoid any pillar that are right after a "ring". I also thought the music was not a great fit for a silly game like this.

Thanks for making this though! I just *had* to click on this game!

PS: my score: 35,677

LD48 Deep Lab Droid by digital bacon 2021-04-30T02:59:07Z

Neither of the web links worked for me (gamejolt.com or itch.io). I feel like any additional mechanic such as a jump, shield, dodge, ... would have gone a long way. My wife really liked the graphics

T-Minus by michaelaranda 2021-04-30T02:25:20Z

A golf game but in space! Very fun, I enjoyed the cute graphics and the floating Tardis. It's a bit frustrating when you are floating away but rotating too slowly or the wrong direction. The music was nice and spacey too, matched the setting perfectly. Thanks for the game!

Planet LD48B by Outfrost 2021-04-27T23:38:29Z

Nice looking game! The music is good. The graphics are nice but the choice of enemies is a bit confusing (red/blue humans). Maybe they should have been something more obviously elemental like slimes? The weapon also seems to be some kind of towel?

I feel like some indication of inventory is missing, all there is is the console output. The van next to the research station was also confusing (seemed important at first but couldn't interact). I also wasn't sure what the "red bottle" was for, since there was no obvious change in my actions, but I could then beat red enemies. Walking back to camp is also a bit of a chore.

Untitled Simulator by Eugenik 2021-04-30T02:49:00Z

This is a little bit disturbing. I guess it fits with the theme, but the subject is definitely provocative. The game is okay, Hitler tends to speak for a long time though, and going back to a known point in conversation to try another option takes too long in my view. It would have been good to be able to fast-forward, especially after the first time going through a dialogue.

The game also felt a little basic. Most conversation simulators have more objectives than simply trying to get to a given topic, such as influencing some stats like getting the character to like you, a limited number of times you can say the wrong thing, etc. At some point I felt like taking a notepad to keep track of what I'd tried, which is when I decided to stop. I feel like I explored all subjects but never got the 2nd trauma...

Drill Deeper by remram44 2021-04-26T22:54:07Z

@darkxao Oh no I didn't realize people would be trying it out before the deadline! I did make some fixes since you posted this. Oops!

I hope you get to try it again, but I know you have a lot of other games to try out

Drill Deeper by remram44 2021-04-27T23:56:32Z

I was definitely too ambitious and should leave myself more time for art. All I can do is blocky low-poly models but even that takes time! The difficulty is also probably all wrong.

I felt like the drilling animation was necessary to keep with the theme, since my drill model doesn't really look the part... I am glad it looks okay!

Having you all try my game feels great  I am hooked!

Drill Deeper by remram44 2021-04-29T19:01:02Z

No map should put you in range of enemies right off the bat, but yes their number and frequency ramps up quick (exponentially). I meant for there to be more variability in enemies' stats as you go but that's all I had time for  Thank you for checking it out!

Rooting Deeper and Deeper LD48 by fuzzypurplepixel 2021-04-27T23:33:34Z

The music is fun but very short (repeats after a couple seconds). The game is repetitive, there is not much progression; it seems that there is a tool selection on the left but no other tool to get (lack of time?) I was also confused initially about how to go down (press down arrow?) since there was a lot of time after I remove the rocks before it would get going.

I got to level 35 or so but at some point there were more rocks than could be removed in the given time and I lost all my health in a few rounds, but the game failed to end when I reached 0 health.

Stranded on planet zod by Pixelipy 2021-04-27T23:27:07Z

That was very nice! The mood was good, and the progression really worked. It wasn't very hard but it wasn't boring either and I really wanted to stay until the end!

There seems to be something wrong with the jump sound (I think it's just playing the jetpack sound for a fraction of second). I was also confused by the red blocks which looked like lava so I floated above them (since jetpack is unlimited) until I saw enemies walking on it. Also the main menu incorrectly says RMB to shoot (it's LMB).
