This is both funny and kinda disturbing at the same time.

mkmuffi 2021-04-26 20:32

I will say that I noticed tons of screw-ups with the timeline of this game. If it takes place in 1924, and they're both supposed to be texting on a cell phone... well that doesn't really make a whole lot of sense. Also since WWII hasn't happened yet at the time, WWI was just called "The Great War." But since the whole game is about being Hitler's therapist, I assume it all wasn't meant to be taken seriously. The gameplay itself reminds me of those story-driven games, and I really like the idea of how the fate of an entire war literally rests upon your hands, you just have to be really careful. I also like the pun in the title. In general, I think the game itself is a pretty humorous concept, albeit obviously very controversial due to the nature of its topic, so you should probably put a trigger warning in the description or on the title screen so that some people don't get offended.

hilkojj 2021-04-26 20:45

Wow, this is a very very interesting and original game idea.

mostel 2021-04-26 22:17

Good work with historical facts and therapist's tricky questions. I think it would be great to add some kind of rewind button for repeating answers.

v0idpointer 2021-04-26 22:45

Okay so... the game banner is defiantly something that will catch people's attention. So, I really liked the game, primarily because I like story based games where you get to talk / interact with character / characters. Some HUD and UI text is hard to read, but the rest is fine. Really cool entry.

theheheo 2021-04-27 17:01

Very uniqiue game, not personally a big fan of text games but I still kept playing. The only thing I would have wished was that you could speed up the text.

mikew 2021-04-27 17:06

hahah very funny premise and clever use of the theme. However, the gameplay got a bit stale for me fairly quickly.

cornflowerblue 2021-04-27 17:09

This is a super unique game.

azaliya 2021-04-27 17:25

High five from the team that made another therapy game! I like your game and realisation :)

la-bread 2021-04-27 17:30

Solid storytelling, the text speed and use of "World War I" was jarring but it was enjoyable. THe animation at the end makes it all worth it.

pavel-smejkal 2021-04-27 17:37

Amazing game, I really liked the idea. I'm not so well-versed in the historical details of Hitler's life and I was glad that I could learn more about it.

It should be a no-brainer that we must not silence historical horrors but we should rather talk about them, study them, make games about them, so that we don't forget and repeat them. Therefore, it feels weird to say it but thank you for your bravery that you did not shy away from such a topic that could lower your ratings in the current world that is sometimes concerned about "correctness" and "not offending anyone" to a fault.

Two little technical details, one is that the game lagged really bad for me when the text was being written. Second one would be that it'd be great if it was possible to skip some of the dialog if it was already showed or even trim it from the dialog options and go straight to the follow-up questions (although I understand that may not be trivial).

Anyway, great job and thanks!

P.S. The title and dancing Hitler was just a cherry on top

xpycm 2021-04-27 18:12

I am helping people to reach 20 ratings. Help me too if you want.

streetgeek 2021-04-27 18:14

i liked the idea. especially the take on the theme. Great work! hope to see more in the future.

kel 2021-04-27 18:15

wacky take on the prompt

oc1d 2021-04-27 18:48

This is very unique and "deep". Dankeschön! Found one Trauma. This is a nice educational experience :)

villanelle 2021-04-27 19:27

Liked the idea of the game but the execution was very simplistic. I would like it to be more interactive, spent too much time reading and wasn't playing much.

zimny11 2021-04-27 19:41

I must say you choose a very unique theme for your game. The dialog is really well written. Good job.

geckoo1337 2021-04-27 20:42

Well. A game with Hitler is always something ambiguous - maybe outrageous. I played and I finished it (Adolf dances good). However I understand what you tried to do - and it works. For what I know, all arguments in your game are historically right - and for this reason you deserve my respect. Even I discover something which I didn't know about the Jew doctor. Your project fits with the theme unusually. The main aesthetic is interesting - sober and ethereal. So I like it. Well done ++

firas-mourad 2021-04-27 20:47

The game is intriguing to say the least.

nicolasjl9 2021-04-27 21:03

You really pulled this off. Learnt a lot of Hitler in this game. Really good dialogs. And a really good form of treating this subject

malfeasance 2021-04-27 21:03

This is a very interesting game, and I really have to appreciate the rotating background and animated models in the background.

gno-evenimente 2021-04-27 21:07

This a very interesting concept. As a game, you don't really do much, except read, but I thought the writing was quite good. Learned a bit about Hitler too. Great job!

lelek-hunor-kadosa 2021-04-27 21:14

Interesting concept and well done! For me there were too little interaction. I mean...after every 5-6 hitler comment, I wanted to decide on my answer. And i missed that I couldn't speed up if I've already read it.

grounddoon 2021-04-27 21:18

I like how you implemented hitler's personality in this simple text-based game

rhoff95 2021-04-27 21:19

Really cool visual style and mood.

merlinnsound 2021-04-27 21:23

The game has a lot of text. It also gives you some achievements, that are motivating. There is some repetition if you happen to choose similar questions. It would be good, if you can skip/accelerate dialogue sequences. Overall a very creative and brave game.

gibss 2021-04-27 21:24

I appreciate the audacity of this jam game at least. Not sure I agree with the ethics of making such a game unless you are going to make an explicit effort to rebut the opinion the man espoused within said game. Thought provoking if nothing else I guess.

getsky 2021-04-27 21:57

This is a really cool game. I am delighted, thank you!

phobos 2021-04-27 22:02

Really cool game with a pretty fun concept. The game is a little slow and boring sometimes, but it's cool to find trauma.

profit 2021-04-28 02:22

Wow the title alone is click bate. sure to get a lot of feedback on this one. Other then that the game was pretty cool idea. I'm guessing you researched most of this info. seemed on point AFAIK. like others i wished repeated talks could be skipped and more interaction. but overall not bad.

binaya 2021-04-28 02:35

Interesting game.Story is good too.

nyanpierre 2021-04-28 02:45

Interessting idea x)

nikorasuchan 2021-04-28 03:02

Very interesting topic. I feel like I'm cheating because I already knew some of Hitler's backstories, but it was cool.

I think you really should either make repeated talks skippable, or better yet, maybe use knowledge database system (kinda like an RPG inventory system where you can choose a topic to say). Also, I wanted to see the healing portion and how Hitler could slowly heal from his traumas.

This was certainly both a funny and interesting entry for this Ludum Dare. Good job!

ishmandoo 2021-04-28 03:03

Really clever

skleembof 2021-04-28 03:13

Very unique approach to the theme, definitely not something i expected to see.

It was a pretty enjoyable experience, I don't know how accurate the information is, but it was interesting and revealing nonetheless

offdutyextractors 2021-04-28 03:40

This game was epic. The serious tone made it funnier. I learned a lot about Hitler through this game. My only suggestion is that text should be skipped if it has been gone over already.

xpoho 2021-04-28 04:11

Да, было бы хорошо вылечить Гитлера. Но историю не повернуть вспять.

Было бы хорошо, если бы диалоги не повторялись. Или хотя бы пропускались.

Спасибо за игру ^_^

picross 2021-04-28 05:50

Fascinating, I definitely wasn't expecting this. I learned a lot. Nice work!

erkanec 2021-04-28 05:54

Great experience.

lorwon 2021-04-28 08:06

Wow the background is awesome ! This is a very good experience ! And guess what ? I would love to play this game with others historical characters it would be awesome :) I loved the way you used the theme, good work :)

Just one thing, sometimes it can be a little bit slow, it would be nice to have a key to speed up the text.

lamamour 2021-04-28 09:28

Oh wow I did not expect to find a game like this, it was DEEP! Awesome dialogs and interesting topic. I feel like it's disturbing for every player but hey, it doesn't make you indifferent. Good pun on the title!

steve-dragon 2021-04-28 09:37

The research, theme and dialogue was good. I enjoyed the premise and it started off well. The problem for me was the absolute snail's pace at which the text appears and how it can go around in circles over and over. I played for a long time, but didn't finish the game because I just got so tired of waiting for the same cycles of text to finish.

Even with the text and premise being interesting, that one thing really broke the experience for me.

david-u 2021-04-28 10:23

Definitely a very original idea! I can see the potential educational value of such a game. It reminded me of several things I learned about Hitler's rise to power at school, and I even learned some new things.

Constructive criticism: the text moves on too slowly. Sometimes there are very long periods without giving the player chance to interact. Maybe some people will get bored when this happens. It takes too long to find the first trauma, so I wasn't sure if I was doing the right thing. Maybe make the first one easier to find to encourage people to keep playing.

I didn't mind the 'text message' style - it got the job done. I would have liked some other sound effects, maybe a ticking clock would have added to the atmosphere, as I can see such a clock in the background.

Well done!

attala 2021-04-28 12:40

I like this idea. Found it interesting and a good way to learn more about Hitler. As others have pointed out the text could move faster. This is a very creative submission. Good job.

tim4 2021-04-28 12:54

The way your nickname and this game combines, funny coincidence. Or is that Jungian unconscious?

unbansheee 2021-04-28 13:09

I must say I was not expecting to be giving Hitler therapy when I came to play the submissions. Very creative idea and a fun spin on the theme. I would love to see the text go faster and I would personally like for the dialogue trees to be locked off after completing them - a couple of times I accidentally had to go through the same dialogue sequence twice. Well done!

ellladee 2021-04-28 14:41

Love the idea and history. And art-design is pretty good. Maybe music here wouldn't be superfluous

2021-04-28 15:09

You've given 226 ratings. It's only been 60 hours since the Jam ended.

That's an average of one rating every 15 minutes, without stopping to eat, drink, or sleep (and even more when you consider that most games opt out of one or two categories).

Furthermore, most of your comments seem very generic and not related to the content of the games.

Are you actually playing the games you're rating?

Edit: and it seems you've rated another 8 games in the last ten minutes.

eugenik 2021-04-28 15:40

@anonymoose I play them all, not to the end, but I do. And 8 games in 10 minutes is ridiculous, One game takes me around 3 minutes. So I expect to play another 60 games today. Want to reach that 300! edit: typo

sheinxy 2021-04-28 15:53

I was not really expecting a game about Hitler here, and somehow it happened

And it's quite decent actually, how?! x3

Well done

rekit 2021-04-28 16:06

So the mechanics and how the game presents itself were really solid. It also fits the theme as it is a therapy game were you dive into a persons mind. However the title of the game combined with the implication that you just need to find Hitlers "trauma" and "cure" him to prevent something horrible like the 2nd world war is not only clickbait (as you never heal him in the first place) but also tasteless - at best.

Also the therapist does a pretty bad job at condamning antisemitism. "don't be so melodramatic" ? Also having the therapist say "It sounds like you are a spokesman of the collective unconscious of the german people" ??

Full Offense because the things I stated above + your username ("eugenik" really?) makes it really hard for me to give this a good rating. Maybe I'm also too german for this because at no point of the game I thought of this as somehow remotely funny.

eugenik 2021-04-28 16:15

@rekit the title: yes, it is a bit clickbaity as I did not have enough time to do the healing part. I did not even start to think how you could start healing his paranoid schizophrenia, as I am not a real therapist, but "only" a deeply interested hobbyist in Jungian psychotherapy and depth psychology. So healing Hitler was a nice challenge I set for myself, but it is difficult as hell.

I didn't want the game to be too long, and I am not qualified to really do an objective critique of his anti-semitism, so I just went with a very simplistic response of "melodramatic".

Mentioning collective unconscious was me hinting at a possible path for Jungian therapy, as Carl Jung diagnosed Hitler with being possessed by the archetype of Wotan, germanic god of war and focus (similar to Odin). But again, I wanted to keep the game rather short and I was afraid of reception of Jungian concepts by people that are not familiar with Jung. It may very well sounds like shamanism to them. I fell back to Freudian therapy, even though I don't like it and I think it's shallow and contra-productive. Jungian therapy is the right method.

About my username - yes, that's a name I thought of years ago, back when I was in a dark place. Luckily, I moved on and realized my mistakes. But the name stayed.

funny: as I write in the description of the game, I did not intend the game to be funny. It is NOT a comedy game. I took it very seriously and a lot of what is said are paraphrases of what Hitler actually said. Some of the responses are based on Hitler's psychologist Ott.

truechips 2021-04-28 16:36

Very cool! I loved the vibing hitler at the end

argorum 2021-04-28 16:37

Interesting and a bit provocative idea c:

the-neon-shark 2021-04-28 16:41

The game felt sort of laggy and slow in the browser. I'm also not sure why the interaction was happening on a text messaging app which completely removed my immersion from the time period. The concept here is no doubt clever and humorous. For a game like this where the text is the focal point, it'd be nice to have that part actually polished. For me that means: - Choose the correct visual medium to convey the story (e.g. not a messenger app) - Allow skipping text or having it load faster. My experience was not enhanced by waiting.

eugenik 2021-04-28 16:43

@the-neon-shark what do you mean by a correct visual medium? any examples? genuinely curious. I know the app takes away the immersion, but then I thought it will resonate more with most of the people who are used to fb.

the-neon-shark 2021-04-28 16:48

Therapists write on notebooks for example. Here's the first thing I could come up with: - You have a notebook on the far right that you can (at any point) open and close to review previous questions asked and answers given. It will have finite info per page, and you'll need to flip through it page by page (instead of scrolling up and down). - When not viewing the notebook/log, the conversation should be more of a text box + face like a traditional RPG imo. You can see their expression and the accompanying text. Much like a real conversation, once the text has "passed" all you have to go on is your memory of reading it (or in this game, the notebook that automatically writes down notes).

The goal here is to feel like a psychotherapist and not like a BFF texting about WW1. Very interesting concept and overall good work with it!

rekit 2021-04-28 17:01

@eugenik difficult is probably an understatement in this case, but I see where you are coming from. The setting you chose for the game is rather late in his life as he already was in prison and so on, so he probably already was beyond "saving" at this point.

I understand that you somewhat had to compromise somewhere since it was only 72h, but being simplistic does not really do it for me especially when you compare it to how anticlimatic the response of the therapist was in comparison to the anti-semitism shown in the texts before that. If you don't know how to critique objectively, maybe integrating something like notes of the therapist or thoughts where he does it subjectively might to the trick.

When you explain it like that I can see where you were coming from. However just throwing it into the game without further context does no do your thought process behind it justice. Since you already had in mind that people would maybe take it the wrong way if you explain the context of the theory then why include it at all? As the topic itself (still) is sensitive and you did a lot of research on it this threw me off a little.

In regard to funny: It was not so much directed to you directly but rather to the comments, as I read that you intended to create a serious game.

All in all thanks for explaining your thoughts and intentions about the game aspects. Also happy to hear that you could move on and are better now. I will adjust my rating somewhat since I probably was too harsh with it. Have a good day :)

toxiccomputer 2021-04-28 17:31

Wow....this was really a unique game. Great job spinning the concept of the theme and the writing was pretty good! Good job!

sequoiadolce 2021-04-28 17:42

Interesting take on the theme if not a little provocative.

shin0nome 2021-04-28 19:34

Really nice storytelling, I liked how you worked on the psychological dimension of the theme. Great job !

vikaster 2021-04-28 20:17

the game is pretty cool ! even if hitler is not the first thing that come in my mind when i think about "deeper". But the take on healing hitler's brain is really unique, and the dialogs in the form of a chat reminded me a small game called Emily is away. Of course your game is much more complex, and more beautiful ! it was kinda like watching the History channel and talking to a psychopath on Tinder. Thank you for that unforgettable moment ! :D

cannocchiale 2021-04-28 20:27

Even if the dialogues seemed a bit too long sometimes, I actually enjoyed the game. I've found the concept of the game very original.

devastus 2021-04-28 21:26

Intriguing take on the theme, and a pretty good one. It is also a difficult one to do right, and while the dialogue itself was quite well written and had historical accuracy (a very important aspect), I personally feel the messenger app - style delivery missed the cue pretty hard.

Compromises need to be made in 72 hours however, so I understand that might have been the easier route to convey the dialogue. It's a good entry nonetheless, well done!

woolchara 2021-04-28 22:15

While I am playing, it will be nice to hear some ambience noise

ariorick 2021-04-28 22:24

I don't know why but web version is not loading. It shows Unity logo and then loader isn't moving. Specs are - Chrome, OS X, 10.15 Catalina

eugenik 2021-04-28 22:25

@woolchara you mean like city sounds for example? do you have any suggestions?

ariorick 2021-04-28 22:25

Can you add downloadable mac build maybe?

eugenik 2021-04-28 22:26

@Ariorick try waiting for a bit, I had that bug on chrome too, the game has around 150 MB, it should load in a few minutes

omg-blackbeard 2021-04-28 22:27

@eugenik - Very innovative theme. Nice story. But instead of text overlay blocking half the screen, it would have been better to put them in 'Skyrim' or 'Gothic' style. Some background music would have added to the mood. In fact since the game is conversation between 2 people only, it could have been audio recorded. But considering the time and the challenge, I would say its very good. Especially the dance - very funny.

ariorick 2021-04-28 22:36

@eugenik thanks! I suggest you add some warning about loading time, you probably lost a couple of player because of it

woolchara 2021-04-28 22:41

@Eugenik yeah. Also game is rather slow. When I discovered the first trauma, dialogues began repeating and I can't skip them, what is quite irritating. The idea of shrink simulator (either about Hitler or not) is great actually. Rotating background, visual noise and black&white gamma are good choices.

6smith 2021-04-28 22:58

had an absolute blast with this lol super creative take on the theme i love it

eugenik 2021-04-28 23:03

@omg-blackbeard how do you mean the skyrim and gotic style? I know the inventory is sort of transparent in Skyrim and it's on the left. Do you mean it like that? To shift the convo screen to the left?

fadex 2021-04-29 01:40

The only think I was missing during playing this game was music. Except that, it included the Deepness of the Ldjam theme greatly, I consider this idea with Hitler and his terapeut as genius. I never thought about that. It gives me, as a player, a gasp of fear at the beginning, as the game is developing I am loosing my fear and becoming more straight, as terapeut should be. Thank you for this experience given through this game. I enjoyed it a lot.

szymon-ogd 2021-04-29 03:58

Before I started the game I was expecting something completly different. I was shocked that this was a text game xD. It has a very good mode.

fyslexicduck 2021-04-29 04:39

From the moment i read the title i had pretty high hopes and the game definitely delivered. very humorous dialogue with a bit of added history lessons. i wish there was some music or ambient audio but otherwise the game was great

obrunomarques 2021-04-29 05:14

very creative idea, the game is simple but funny, I liked it. Congrats

2021-04-29 05:35

@eugenik

PLEASE OPT OUT OF THE GRAPHICS CATEGORY

You are currently in violation of LD rules

From the LD rule page: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/rules) H2.PNG

H.png https://sketchfab.com/3d-models/hitler-6c2d5f7934554a5cbce3da4fc519b579

I also agree with what @anonymoose said. **Were you really playing a game once every 15 minutes for 60 hours or were you cheating there too...**

I encourage everyone to rate him with the above in mind.

#### I will edit this post if as soon as you opt out of graphics

boclow 2021-04-29 06:27

Neat concept. I liked the idea to go trough historical event with the historical figure and it would be cool to expand that to other historical figures as well. Text was moving really slow tho.

jusw85 2021-04-29 06:50

I liked the conversation initially, but after finding only two traumas (1 and 3) and stuck over and over trying to find the last trauma, with no option to fast forward the text, I got tired and had to give up :(

Otherwise, I liked the setting and writing! Again, would be perfect if there was an option to skip text.

chriiis88 2021-04-29 08:21

@eugenik, in addition to the concerns voiced by @anonymoose and @burneraccount, you're also in direct violation of the license under which the author of the Hitler model published it. You did neither credit its author nor link to the license both of which are required steps to use the model as described on its page.

mrpouletbzh 2021-04-29 09:05

The concept really is interesting, a pertinent approach of the theme. There is an overlapping between one of the trauma and chat UI that is a bit bothersome but that's not much of a great deal. I think that a great addition would be to add a "sources menu" or something like that, referencing the different trauma and psychoterapy notions approached in the game

antbrl 2021-04-29 10:52

This was a disturbingly soothing game. I even got to learn a thing or two!

imyellowfish 2021-04-29 11:31

Definitely solid writings from historical and psychological perspective. With a few knowledge about psychology and Hilter's stories, I could tell that the game surely puts a lot of details inside, which makes it very realisitc even if its novel story. Great job!

Also the graphics is impressive!

eugenik 2021-04-29 12:15

@chriiis88 licensing is required under a commercial use. This jam is NOT commercial use, I have no monetary profit.

eugenik 2021-04-29 12:18

@burneraccount you don't see the model for 95% of the game. And this is a JAM contribution, not COMPO, some use of external models is allowed. Licensing the author is required if the product is distributed for commercial use. Which is not a case here, at Ludum Dare, the game is free and I have no monetary profit.

2021-04-29 15:03

@eugenik I know it’s jam. That’s why I’m asking you to **follow the jam rules** and opt out of categories with assets you did not make.

Also @chriiis88 is right.

You’re in violation of the license for the model you stole as well as Ludum Dare rules. You need to address this.

The license: https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/

The only purpose of the license is to give the creator attribution - you didn’t even do that.

I’m going to be reporting this game to itch.io and the content creator who’s work you stole if you don’t *opt out graphics and credit the content creator* within 24 hours.

eugenik 2021-04-29 15:14

@burneraccount I didn't steal it, I wasn't aware you have to credit the author even in non-commercial use.

I always credit authors in my commercial games.

I have put a link+license on the itch.io page.

edit: and in the submission description, for your peace of mind.

Now, for the graphics rating - the jam rules don't TELL you to opt out it, they ASK you to (as seen in the excerpt you posted). It's not mandatory.

nosfer 2021-04-29 17:32

I like the narration, some interesting facts. The UI could benefit from some original design not just bland default Unity UI buttons. The portrait of Sigmund on the wall is nice touch but it hurts from some Z-depth errors (at least in WEBGL) version - could be fixed by just moving portrait graphics out of frame.

cal 2021-04-29 17:39

Truly unique idea and very interesting take on the theme. I imagine some sort of weird historical figure psychology museum where you dive into peoples psyche.

aroningi 2021-04-29 18:46

Wow, this is a really cool and unique game, also a very interesting take on the theme. It was pretty fun to ask Hitler some questions and learn some stuff about him. The dialog was good. It was a bit weird that the camera moved around when you are trying to click on a dialog option, but I eventually got used to it.

I really liked it, it's very interesting and pretty fun, good job.

Hitler's dance and Freud were a nice touches.

gyemelmor 2021-04-29 20:55

A really interesting game. I enjoyed a lot and also learned a lot with Hitler's history

kotzi 2021-04-29 21:52

Pretty interesting idea, nice take on the theme!

trexxak 2021-04-29 22:17

As others said, the typing crawl was a bit too slow. Other than that: Great work grabbing attention with the shocking title. The dialogue felt fairly immersive and I learned a few things about Hitlers mother, which is cool I guess? :'D

ranchoman 2021-04-29 23:32

A bit of a disconnect between the texting UI and therapist office, but super cool idea, really appreciate the risk, and could totally see you building a whole game around this mechanic.

remram44 2021-04-30 02:49

This is a little bit disturbing. I guess it fits with the theme, but the subject is definitely provocative. The game is okay, Hitler tends to speak for a long time though, and going back to a known point in conversation to try another option takes too long in my view. It would have been good to be able to fast-forward, especially after the first time going through a dialogue.

The game also felt a little basic. Most conversation simulators have more objectives than simply trying to get to a given topic, such as influencing some stats like getting the character to like you, a limited number of times you can say the wrong thing, etc. At some point I felt like taking a notepad to keep track of what I'd tried, which is when I decided to stop. I feel like I explored all subjects but never got the 2nd trauma...

rubixnoob13 2021-04-30 05:03

Interesting take on the theme, but I don't have a ton to add other than what people here have already said. All of *my* graphics were made by me in Paint.net, which is why they look like programmer artwork xD

bereg 2021-04-30 09:11

Ok, here is the deal. I'm a sucker for dialogue games and I enjoy reading well-written conversations. This game almost gave me this kind of pleasure. It's thoughtful, the writing is good, the topics are serious. But it just doesn't hit the right button.

First, the premise and the game title imply that it's a comedy. Also, the game finale goes the comedy route. But the gameplay and topics discussed are not comedic in any sense. This dissonance is off-putting. Second, the conversation itself is a little bit shallow, it's mostly listing historical facts. It somewhat reflects the usual psychoanalytic's job, but for the sake of gameplay, I think the conversation needs to be readjusted and be more "cinematic" in terms of pivotal points and emotional swing.

Overall, it's a great game with a great premise. The topic is too serious and complex to be fully developed within the game jam timeframe, but you made what you could. I don't think anyone could do it better in a couple of days.

2021-04-30 11:10

really intresting game! It was pretty fun diving deeper into his life :open_mouth: well done

youhou 2021-04-30 17:45

Game is special, but it's good. There's some "fun facts", I hope they are true. The conversation was well written. Congrats for your game

edur 2021-04-30 17:49

Great idea, great execution. It was interesting to learn details about his life.

superpokeunicorn 2021-04-30 18:05

A very original idea, and a good way of building empathy. I really like the visuals for the psychologist's office, although the text interface was a weird choice for the time period. I'd also say that the gameplay felt less like actually diagnosing him, and more like clicking the option I haven't chosen yet and letting the scene play out. Still, a very creative use of the theme. Nice work!

dom-de-re 2021-04-30 21:27

The amount of research that went into this is impressive for 3 days! This is great work, it was a very distinct and enjoyable experience

eduardo-yukio 2021-04-30 22:22

Maybe because of my old pc, the web version lagged a lot. The words came out soooo slowly that it was impossible to play. It would be nice to have a button to skip the animations and drop the entire sentence at once. I then downloaded the windows version and it went more smoothly.

I was definitely not expecting such a serious themed game. Very interesting, you must have had a very deep research work.

The dancing hitler at the end was even more unexpected hahahaha, nice entry!

chrispy977 2021-05-01 06:50

The web page won't work, also cheating kinda sucks soooooo.

tomlbarden 2021-05-01 11:00

The premise is actually pretty interesting. However, it doesn't end up being particularly fun or engaging. The game unfolds a lot like an exposition dump of the events which led to Hitler's rise to power and WW2. Now, is that a bad idea or a bad thing? Not at all, however I feel the executing could have been more interactive and engaging. @bereg hit the rest on the head quite nicely.

aaants 2021-05-01 11:51

Definitely the most original experience I've come across so far. Well done

crow-seeds 2021-05-01 21:33

Oh my god, that ending animation. The content of the game is pretty interesting but I feel like the texting speed was a bit slow. However, the game was pretty enjoyable and educational. The ending just blindsided me in the best way possible. Great game!

msipp27 2021-05-01 23:36

I cannot play this, i don't like the concept and it makes me uncomfortable to play. if I wanted to learn about hitler, I would just research the topic in my own time.

eugenik 2021-05-02 00:47

@msipp27 that's fair, you don't have to play if it makes you uncomfortable. But you are the first to say something like this out of 1500 people who played the game so far.

jonrei 2021-05-02 14:41

I did not expect to find something like this on LD. Very cool concept

manan 2021-05-02 21:01

Interesting experience. The text seemed to get progressively slower as the game went on, which made the final parts take a really long time.

asdehielo 2021-05-03 14:37

The name is brilliant, props for that. The concept is interesting, very creative interpretation of the theme. The atmosphere is alright, it fits with the historical nature of the game.

My only problem is that it got a bit slow, maybe having a button to skip to the next text would fix this. But I understand why it's the way it is now, it feels more like a conversation.

Very nice job, congrats!

oco 2021-05-04 01:35

interesting way to present the story, I found it easy to read the texting format, although the background can be dizzying. A daring take on the theme!

ardorugus 2021-05-04 02:50

Thin line here. Nice room design. Better to be able to choose questions without the camera waltzing (head down) around. There's a huge work on topic, however feels not like a game, more an interactive piece for a diploma or something. Dialogue sfx are quite distracting (muted them). Some suspense music, when close to finding the trauma origin would be cool. The final dance is a nice touch, if danced to a music (say, "let me see you stripped"). Interesting therapy session with a smart but quite hype-ish (due the closeness of another 9th May) title.

noteworthy 2021-05-04 07:42

Interesting game, an interesting spin on the text narrative game you find on phones. Some of the story felt a little like the rattling off a wikipedia article rather than a smooth flow of conversation, but I can't imagine how difficult it would be to write for something like this. interesting entry!

johnsensei 2021-05-04 13:26

Interesting concept. I don't know if it was a Unity thing or what, but the web version was unplayably slow. The issue could be on my end, but I've never had a 3D web game run this slow before.

gamescodedogs 2021-05-05 11:35

The story was very interesting, nice psychoanalysis simulator. It was a bit repetitious when I had to read quite long text fragments several times and it would be nice if I could turn sound signals off (felt annoying), but overall I liked it a lot.

jose-bonilla 2021-05-05 18:44

A nice interpretation of the theme (great job there) and good game. My main gripe with this is the speed of text, it's way too slow and there's no way to skip it. I agree with other comments in that the camera should move independently of the text selection. Good job.

radiotrophia 2021-05-06 16:41

This is such a good game omfg XD i love it!

james-macgill 2021-05-07 02:11

Played it through to 3/3 - interesting take on the theme. Finding the 2nd of the three took a while, going back over some dialog loops a few times had me wanting to speed it up.

maaxoom 2021-05-07 22:02

Best interpretation of the theme so far! Impressive

jorne 2021-05-08 21:38

Very original take on the theme! I also learned a lot actually. Sometimes dialogues were coming back when I asked the same question. It could have been funny if the answer would have taken that into account.

deepnight 2021-05-09 13:43

That's a very good take on the theme and a touchy subject too :) You managed both really well, making a unique and interesting game. Very well done!

banan 2021-05-09 18:31

Repeating dialogue and slow text are my two major complaints. The prose could be improved (there were some grammatical errors), and the Hitler animation is somewhat distracting, though his dancing is quite nice. I enjoyed it for the effort you put into making a serious game about Hitler that's not a complete meme.

echo-gameworks 2021-05-09 21:37

Definitely an interesting concept and you can actually learn stuff about Hitler along the way! Great execution - thanks for making this.

tom-ruxley 2021-05-09 22:16

That was unique, and I learned a lot! I liked the visual style as well with the grainy black-and-white filter.

pikario 2021-05-10 20:58

Interresting game, innovative twist from the ludum theme.

I really love the point of view with camera control, the choice of setting is great :ok_hand:

Well written, just the "phone interface" is a little cheap I think. Could be better with more feedbacks and more immersive sounds maybe (like pencil or sheets sounds).

But well done !

ludumdaredevil 2021-05-12 11:20

Cool game. Interesting take on the Theme.

thrawn911 2021-05-12 14:52

Great game, very unique idea. You did a great job with the graphics. Keep it up!

videt 2021-05-14 11:37

I easily found 1st and 3rd traumas, but had to search more for the 2nd one, and so I noticed that many paths are repetitive. I had to read the same lines over and over again trying to find this one trauma (the skip the typing process button would be a great thing to add). Also, the volume changer would be a nice addition since the game is extremely loud by default

But overall very creative idea and a nice game! Simple but fun

saintchristopher777 2021-05-14 23:00

Super interesting idea! As someone interested in both history and psychology, it really appeals to me. Well executed also. Visuals and soundscape are great. Dancing Hitler at the end is hilarious.

Sure, there were a few typos and anachronisms, but that's pretty much inevitable when you have just 72 hours to make the game. The only thing that seemed "missing" was a skip ahead button, to zip through repeating text animations.

Great game!

eugenik 2021-05-15 00:45

@saintchristopher777 the soundtrack was OK you think? Wasn't it too "aggressive"? I wanted to include some ambient music, was this ok, or should it be calmer, more ambient?

saintchristopher777 2021-05-15 01:06

@eugenik Nah, I thought it was fine. Only suggestion there would be to add a volume control somewhere so people can adjust to their taste.

jondalnas 2021-05-15 17:20

Nice game! I noticed a couple of spelling mistakes, some texture clipping, framerate drops and some historical inaccuracies, but the mood overshines all of that, with gorgeous graphics, fantastic story and and great atmosphere.

alprog 2021-05-16 12:08

It is funny that characters spoke "World War I" not just "World War" in 1924. Interesting concept in general but I desire text to be a little faster.

jordgubben 2021-05-16 17:43

Justified or not everyone has their reason for doing what they do, and you illustrate that well.

For a post-jam version (or another game with similar mechanics) I'd like to see an abbreviated dialogue option (or at least a fast forward button) for when rethreading the same dialogue path more than once.
