LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Final Society by conrad123 2021-05-09T23:51:33Z

It would be better to add some textures or shading onto the geometry so it doesn't look very flat, but very impressive how you managed to make a VR game! Nice job!

Epic!

Boneitis - Quest for the Cure by patvanmackelberg 2021-05-09T23:55:12Z

The game looks good for 8 bit pixel art, and the story is pretty unique, as well as the connection to the theme. Nice job!

Cave Runner by Sir. Syko 2021-04-26T19:28:17Z

The game could really use some music. The generic stick-figure character doesn't clash well with the better-looking graphics of the spiders and rocks, but I will say that the animation for the stick-figure is good! I like the concept for this one; and the feeling of momentum when you hold down the spacebar/click as the player does an action is satisfying!

Penguins can't fly by Attala 2021-04-26T19:10:32Z

Fun game to play, but I feel like you hit the ledges too easily, and the controls are a bit floppy. I like the 3D look of it though, and the sound effects are funny! Nice job

Riches Await Below by Hunter X 2021-05-13T19:38:32Z

I like the 3D-ness of it all. The character design for the miner is really fun, it kind of looks like a firework. But when I started playing the game, I couldn't understand how to play it, and the gameplay could be faster.

Rocket Fishing by slam0 2021-04-26T19:42:42Z

The audio is fine, even though the music itself doesn't fit the mood while the water sound on top of it does the work for it, and the graphics sort of look like clip-art, but the game itself is alright. It sort of reminds me of Cookie Clicker, in the way that you keep on doing a repetitive task but also keep upgrading your tool at the same time. And the curved throwing/launching spear mechanic reminds me of Angry Birds. The connection to the theme could be better, as in the game you stay at the surface and try to throw the spear deeper and deeper, but it just comes right back up.

Beaver Submarine by cagibi 2021-04-26T20:08:01Z

I love the fact that a beaver is the player character. The audio sounds crackly and staticky. I also think that you get pushed back too much from the submarine moving forward. Also I'm not sure why you would need to stand on the button to go backwards at all. The adaptation of the theme is original and humorous though!

Untitled Simulator by Eugenik 2021-04-26T20:32:50Z

I will say that I noticed tons of screw-ups with the timeline of this game. If it takes place in 1924, and they're both supposed to be texting on a cell phone... well that doesn't really make a whole lot of sense. Also since WWII hasn't happened yet at the time, WWI was just called "The Great War." But since the whole game is about being Hitler's therapist, I assume it all wasn't meant to be taken seriously. The gameplay itself reminds me of those story-driven games, and I really like the idea of how the fate of an entire war literally rests upon your hands, you just have to be really careful. I also like the pun in the title. In general, I think the game itself is a pretty humorous concept, albeit obviously very controversial due to the nature of its topic, so you should probably put a trigger warning in the description or on the title screen so that some people don't get offended.

Dreadnought Parlance & the Magic Pearl by DecrementedPalindrome 2021-05-09T23:59:30Z

The blue sea could use more detail, the goal is straight to the point, I just wish more oxygen was available from the start, as the upgrading mechanic for me at least seems a little too much. The music is great though, nice job!

ROOTS by TheGreenWorm 2021-05-19T03:10:50Z

Checked to see the winning game, and credit where credit is due, this is amazing! A unique concept that connects to the theme perfectly! Congratulations on winning compo Ludum Dare 48!

Swing Shroom by Quite Good 2021-05-13T19:11:03Z

This game did a really good job, I love the art and the sound effects are cute! The web-swinging mechanic is neat, even if it doesn't really make sense for a mushroom to do it. (It's a grappling hook, but also mycelium?) Regardless, good job with this!

Deep Diver by Whistler 2021-05-06T02:44:36Z

Nice!

Unto the Eight by Threeli 2021-04-26T21:02:17Z

What button do you press to START the game? (I'm on the web version, you said it was a little off but still works as intended?) Judging just based on the screenshots however, it looks pretty good.

Adventure: Depths & Dangers by yulotomorrow 2021-05-13T19:24:09Z

The graphics are cute and the music is nice! Though I didn't fully understand the story. When I was in the bubble under the sea, I wasn't quite sure where to go, either. But nice job!

Deep Dive by Aifryz101 2021-05-09T23:49:18Z

The movement is fun, the graphics are alright, some music would be nice, but good in general!

Botanica by FDK 2021-04-26T19:20:05Z

The controls are a bit slow, and instead of having the player face the mouse I think it should be the direction the player is going in. Also I think it's strange how touching those worm things instantly throw you into the air and kill you. It could be more related to the theme, and the graphics could be better, but I really like the font used on the title screen, and the music is good!

MachDrop by ZIM 2021-05-10T00:06:39Z

I just go right or left and keep falling, the game is dark and I wish I can turn the camera around to see where I'm actually going, the short music loop gets annoying after a minute, and I don't know what the objective or goal is... fine attempt at a 3D game though.

Downer Diver by MkMuffi 2021-04-26T18:52:41Z

@lorwon Thank you! And yes @scienitive I wish I could have made it more difficult and a bit longer, if time allowed.

Downer Diver by MkMuffi 2021-04-26T20:50:29Z

@phealsout Thank you!! And yes I should have made the hitboxes smaller, especially on the Sharks because sometimes they can get stuck in the wall. And @noel-widmer Thank you!! I agree that you mainly just have to hold down most of the time, and you only really have to move up in certain areas with a lot of fish. Thanks for the feedback!

@zimny11 @sheepolution Thank you!

@aquasheep3000 @etrealjunior Thanks for the suggestions!

Downer Diver by MkMuffi 2021-05-13T19:05:22Z

@cavedens @pijamar @ratrat44 @youk @remco Thank you so much for your thoughts! Even though the gameplay is vertical, I made the aspect ratio horizontal so that it would fit to the ratio of most screens, as well as to hide whatever obstacle is coming up so that it's more of a surprise when you reach it.

The sharks actually have their own AI different to the fish (The fishes' AI being to just keep swimming back and forth until they hit a wall.) The sharks were actually meant to slowly creep towards to player until they get hit, then quickly swim back down. However, something weird occurred with their hitboxes (sometimes they get stuck in a wall) which is what caused their movement to be wonky. You get the 'Game Over' screen (albeit with a "winning sound") when you reach the treasure chest at the end, only because I didn't have enough time to make a 'You Won!' screen, so I can fully understand if that was a little disappointing. Still, thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it!

@coleslaughter Thank you so much for the feedback, and for playing the game on stream as well! I really appreciate it!

Caves of the Forgotten by CorbenG 2021-04-26T20:02:52Z

I really like the puzzle aspect of this, having to find more pieces of rope to go further down into the cave. The walking is a bit slow, and it could use some music. And the dialogue for the notes on some of the dead bodies are funny, I caught that host Mike and Tomb Raider reference. The graphics are probably the best you could make them with a canvas size for each sprite being so small. And the ending seems a bit cut off, I assume that's due to time reasons. Pretty good in general.
