Lovely. But it's hard the manourage with the physics inside the submarine

This game made me experience the whole list of emotions. I like your graphics and the way you opened the theme.

Amazing job! Listening to awesome soundtrack music while playing as a beaver who can't keep his submarine from spinning in circles and going basically nowhere is exactly how to kick off the Rating Period of LD48! I honestly can't think of anything I didn't like in the game, some people might dislike the submarine going crazy but I think it's one of the best features ever in a video game.

I'm interested to know how good a score of 1360 is considered.

I really like the idea of this one. Seemed (and maybe I'm wrong) like the weight of Jules Beaverne caused the sub to move in different ways. Graphics are great, propeller and lighting I really enjoyed. This is one of those games you could see being turned into a "product" down the line. Thanks for making this!

For @peace-of-cake-games I only got 800, so I think you did well!

Very tricky to control, but I really enjoyed watching the submarine at work and admiring the game systems you accomplished in 48h. Music is so relaxing and the graphics are perfect. I had to quit out because I didn't know what I was doing or how to win, but I truly enjoyed the experience!

All I have to say is : Amazing game !

chuckeles 2021-04-26 12:35

Nice  But I agree with others, it was hard to keep the beaver on a button once the submarine starts moving. Amazing graphics and sound!

exewin 2021-04-26 12:35

Crazy idea for game and it's nicely polished! Capture.PNG

Very cool game! I though the fish would hurt you at first but then I just sprinted through the game hehe :stuck_out_tongue: Very nice art and sound and gameplay was very nice with the submarine being just hard enough to control

Thank you all for the feedback! This is the first real game with full-blown physics I made, so I'm glad it was generally fun. I tried to apply a stabilizing torque to the submarine depending on its angle, but that didn't really work for more than a minute.

@doc-kaos You're right, the protagonist accounts for 1/10 of the submarine's total weight!

@goodwincek @chuckeles Thanks! By putting the buttons at the opposite of their kickback direction, I tried to avoid situations where you can just coast to the bottom without any input. I tried to tune the protagonist's friction and velocity damping to be movable enough without being too slippery, as well as responsive to external forces.

@sir-syko The fish don't hurt at all, they just weigh half of the submarine and get in your way (which is challenging enough). Maybe I should have made them less scary and/or adding a variant.

Whaou, So funny to feel the the ship move around and being dragged, or to fight to go back to the front! Frustration but in a good way!

I love the physics inside!

Maybe some visual indication of what the button do. Their position was not that evident!

toasteater 2021-04-26 13:39

Had a really nice moment bouncing around in the submarine. Operating the sub is hard, but even mishaps felt quite good with juicy lighting effects and simulated background objects. The fish do seem to be a bit too hard to hit, though. It's very rare that you can manage to consciously aim at them, and once they (quickly) stick to the top/bottom of your ship there's little you can do. I've managed to clear the game despite this thanks to the very lenient timer, but it felt frustrating nevertheless. Great game overall!

hpa97 2021-04-26 15:17

Fun game I like moving around the submarine to steer it, a bit difficult to manage when the sub is rotating.

awildekans 2021-04-26 18:15

Art style is excellent, really love it! Controls are quite difficult to get used to being my only 'issue' NICE!

aditon 2021-04-26 18:48

This game was hilarious and challenging, but I didn't really get far before I lost interest. I think you have something unique and brilliant here, I would develop it and perhaps make the movement a little more intuitive (without losing the whimsical nature of the mechanic). Thanks for submitting.

pseudohausen 2021-04-26 19:20

The audio is really really broken sounding. Like oddly "crunchy" and skipping a lot. Otherwise this was really cool. I wish the buttons were better at visually communicating what they were going to do to the submarine, but once I got a hang of everything this was a lot of fun. The crates inside were a great touch.

mkmuffi 2021-04-26 20:08

I love the fact that a beaver is the player character. The audio sounds crackly and staticky. I also think that you get pushed back too much from the submarine moving forward. Also I'm not sure why you would need to stand on the button to go backwards at all. The adaptation of the theme is original and humorous though!

slimabob 2021-04-26 20:14

WOW! I think this might be the most creative take on the theme I've seen yet! The ship controls were odd BUT once I got a handle on them it was actually really fun to control the sub! The music was super cozy and I found myself playing this game a lot longer than a lot of other entries. I was surprised to see physics on the objects in the sub. Great entry! :v:

Really really awesome game! first of all the art was AWESOME I love the style so much. The audio was great how ever the main menus audio seemed a bit broken. The mood was great and gameplay was fun. I can see a full version of this game with ship repairs maybe cargo you have to take care of being awesome. My biggest issue however was the foreground darkness, I did realize it wasnt walls until I accidentally went flying into it. Once I knew it was foreground I would still have issues were the foreground made it hard to see what I was doing, but that is basically my one and only issue. Awesome awesome entry!

judgeclark 2021-04-26 21:07

I think this might be the greatest thing I have ever seen .. and it's a fair simulation of my IRL driving. Pros: all of it Cons: 0

cagibi 2021-04-27 06:21

Thanks for the feedback! I'm considering continuing the game into a post-jam version. Maybe I should have shown the button labels permanently instead of having a dedicated help button in a hard-to-reach place.

@pseudohausen @mkmuffi This looks like an audio bug, it might depend on your browser. I've seen similar bugs with other Godot games on the new version.

EDIT: wow, reaching 20 ratings after one day, that was quick!

Neat game! I included it in my compilation video series of a bunch of LDJAM games! https://youtu.be/joQCxT9jLww

Interesting and fun controls and physics! Pleasant stylish pixel graphics. Nice attention to details.

Some remarks: 1. Music lags/stuttering. Google Chrome and 4K display here. Expectation: music plays smoothly. 2. Black foreground looks like obstacles. Expectation: semi-transparent foreground or with holes.

Great entry!

Great use of the physics engine, really fun to get the submarine spinning. Could have been nice with some variation in the background/fishes when we get deeper. But amazing game overall.

jordgubben 2021-05-13 17:01

When I first saw the title of this game I somehow expected somethin like our game, except with a beaver instead oss an otter. I was both delighted and surprised to see how different it was. One of the main reasons we have jams, I think, is that someone makes odd stuff like this one. Top marks.

super-hadoken 2021-05-14 12:06

Cool game. I managed to collect the key but I was mashing w and it skipped the end lol.
