Hey this is a really fun game. I loved the concept, it could get quite addicting.

The artwork is wonderful, the game was really enjoyable. Found the city at 1200depth. :)

dominikscholz 2021-04-26 23:32

Fun to play and also great graphics! Only caveat is the sound, which got a little bit repetitive after a while.

ariorick 2021-04-29 11:12

How is nobody played this game? Ya'll need to go and rate other games to increase your balance, you definitely have potential. Leaving positive or useful comments also brings people to your page

frostfall 2021-04-29 11:15

Fun idea, reminded me of choose your own adventure games. Cute graphics and nice idea, well done!

ariorick 2021-04-29 11:18

Animations and art are very cool. Of course the game needs more types of events and results, you still might just give or take resources, but it needs stories that would engage you in game. Also my flashlight stuck in bounce animation :d

deadmanjw 2021-04-29 11:19

Is is a fun little card/ tile game. Didnt find much that seemed to hurt me, maybe i got a good run but the graphics and gameplay are good.

What might be interesting would be to display some sort of strength value for enemies to maybe give you more of an indication if you should fight it or not.

getsky 2021-04-29 11:25

You're doing fine! Great idea and implementation.

penelope 2021-04-29 11:25

Really nice idea! It would have been cool to have some more different cards (and events) and a bit more variation in the score. But overall your game has nice graphics and a fun and addicting gameplay :D

bgdu67 2021-04-29 11:28

Congratulations for making this game! Got to Atlantis at around 1300 depth, after having taken the time to unlock all upgrades, and at 375 meters during a rather lucky second playthrough. I like the core idea behind your game and had fun playing it, although I feel that some added polish and balancing might make it even better: at this time, the game is perhaps a bit too easy - putting some emphasis on the flashlight could make this game more focused on strategy than luck. Thank you for this short and sweet entry!

baconinvader 2021-04-29 11:30

Really solid game core, I enjoyed all the different scenarios and the risk/reward gameplay. I think this definitely could be expanded into a full game. As for nitpicks, I think the music got repetitive after a little while, and being able to exit boxes faster to progress more quickly would have been nice.

eusekerci 2021-04-30 01:17

our games are indeed similar in terms of theme  I like that you didn't add turn back mechanic, this feels way better. some feedback: - since i don't now what's behind the card, that choice doesn't matter nor interesting. I always choose the middle one. I would rather to keep them open and make the choice more meaningful/strategic - either there is a few type of card or I didn't progress much (I did 515). I would like to see different cards as much as possible in this type of game - I would hardly suggest you to play this one if you haven't play it yet: https://twotinydice.itch.io/forward looks very similar as concept, there are tons of inspiration here as well -[SPOILER] the card that "you found atlantis" feels so good, they always attacked me though. It seems like there is puzzle there (or I was unlucky 3 times)

snip-man 2021-04-30 01:53

Great idea for the theme. I tried to fight all the sea creatures.

strangeryann 2021-04-30 15:58

Dude ur game is so satisfying

12_atlan_funush.png

in french I'd say "ton jeu il m'a fait du bien frère" :P ^^# really really enjoyed it i really wish u could just scroll that credits screen tho :-D relive all ur choices for a minute

honestly i was not convinced when i realized it was just a card game but it works really well! I enjoyed the heck out of this playsession! Thanks dude - great work can't wait to see what you'll cook up next time <3 :grinning:

So I really like your game and I'm streaming Ludum Dare 48 games on saturday with my friend Teauorent on his Twitch channel - https://www.twitch.tv/teauorent - Saturday May 1st 4PM CET Illustration_sans_titre_y03.png we're ready to present 6 out of the 5 games we planned ^^# the games' makers e-mailed us anecdotes and sneak peeks of their creative processes (photos, screenshots, beta/WIP asset renders, mood boards, concept Art, etc.) so we can present those alongside and illustrate their LD48 adventure to our audience  Really not sure your game could be featured also 'cause we can't just stream on for 3+ hours if there's too much content ^^# BUT if you'd like to do that to we'd love to feature your game - there's the e-mail I mentioned earlier --> TeamChooChoo.GameJams@gmail.com [we will confirm receiving your e-mail(s) upon reception] The show will be in french but I'm bilingual so you can totally submit in english, we'll take care of the rest

Have a great day, I hope to hear from you soon - thanks for that great moment I spent testing your little nugget of a game, and see you in the chat on saturday I hope

kotzi 2021-04-30 16:19

@strangeryann thank you so much! Sadly we don't really have too many extras/insights to share with you, it was a well paced development with almost no early stages.

Good luck with the stream!

eps 2021-04-30 16:54

Yeahhhh we found the mysterious city at 2200 m ! Great game. Simple, but efficient.

chtimy 2021-04-30 19:13

1100 meters for me :D Simple and efficient, could be extended for a full gameplay and a full game ! Really good job I enjoyed it !! Thank you for your game!

ltorrestailfer 2021-05-01 20:07

quite-good 2021-05-01 20:08

This was really fun overall! The gameplay was easy to understand and it was overall very intuitive. I was a little confused about how to win, or if the game could actually be won, when I got kicked out of Atlantis the first time. While I really like the idea of gaining enough gold to buy the mermaid tail, not knowing what it was beforehand made me feel a little lost. Otherwise, this was freaking sweet!

tris250 2021-05-02 21:43

Very fun card game, the cards are nice, the game itself is very interesting and the music and good, it's just a very good game.

sleepqt 2021-05-02 21:53

Alright thank you, I can't stop playing this now. Enjoyed the RNG, the art also looks beautiful, all the colors fit each other. Wish you guys to add more cards, a great entry!

joskerdu 2021-05-03 15:56

Good stuff... loved the art from the title screen to the end. (minus the start button :P) But seriously this was entertaining and a really great use of the theme. Well done!

lereveur 2021-05-03 18:34

Really good! I was not expecting any card/random picking game with this theme, and I'm positively surprised with this one! I won at my second try, somewhere beetween 900 and 1000 meters. Very well done!

brusi 2021-05-04 17:30

I liked the art! Game was fun, though a bit simple. Your choices did not matter much (though I realized that I should not attack sharks before I have a harpoon, and I should not enter Atlantis before I got the thingy).

So it's mostly clicky-clicky with nice art and story, but still I enjoyed it :)

phlebas 2021-05-04 17:37

Nice game! I haven't understood what flashlights are for (after i bought them, i always had 3 of them, and i was never asked to use them...): i don't know if i missed something or if it is a bug

kr4ft3r 2021-05-04 17:38

Very cool. Entered Atlantis at 925 meters. It was a good choice to not make it too hard, with this being LD game and all. Card graphics are very well done.

My only complaint is, with the rest of the game running smooth, result action of a dialog should have been smoother, as in disappear right after a click rather than have a forced delay. That would help keep up with the frantic pace one may get into while uncovering cards.

dock-frankenstein 2021-05-04 17:44

This was an amazing game. At first I thought it's an RNG simulator, but no. It doesn't drag out for too long, has nice art and it isn't 100% depended on random numbers. The progression was fun, although it could have been a little bit more difficult.

Also sound effects would be nice (idk, splash water or something) and music was a little bit annoying. It's just the same instrument jumping at you and sometimes percussion. I'm not sure but it sounds to me that maybe it was made in bosca ceoil. Unless you really know what you're doing making good sounding music in that repetitive app is hard.

Another issue were the default unity buttons and text. I hope you used tmpro, but it's a lot simpler to make simple text or make the squares blocky (remove the default unity texture). Maybe it isn't like this now, but unity was always the "asset flip maker" and things like the early made with unity screens were really bad for your game, because it was like telling somebody "this game is bad". The default unity UI textures are outdated and quite ugly. Also they get used a lot still and are low res. As I see you can draw. That's great. Draw a square with rounded corners and replace it. Also a different font would be nice. Just look up a font on google fonts or dafont, check if they don't want money (most of the time they don't) and download it.

I don't think the tutorial was quite necessary. I just couldn't understand the interface that well at first. But that full screen, unformatted arial doesn't give an appealing look.

Also change the itch page. Change colors, and write a better description. Just go on about anything and make it works.

This was quite a long review, hope it helped, unless you just kinda put the game out and left it there.

fargred 2021-05-04 17:58

Very cool entry. I actually made it in my first try on 500m (because I was just curious about that one shop item). I really liked the presentation and the card flipping effect. Music was a bit basic but worked well enough! Definitely very enjoyable to try and dive to Atlantis!

cebula 2021-05-04 18:29

Amazing graphics!

dans17 2021-05-04 19:06

I loved the card illustrations, and it felt satisfying to progress through the cards! The gameplay seemed to be based mainly on luck and figuring out some of the mechanics; I wish some of the mechanics were better explained but there were more strategic options available to you. The flashlights were a really cool mechanic though, and I think you should expand more on that, and maybe have some flashlights available to the player right from the start.

smbe19 2021-05-04 20:17

I felt like there was not much I was able to influence. I had three cards to choose from, but as they were all random, I might have as well clicked on a button "next event".

verygenuinecraze 2021-05-04 21:42

I had a lot of fun! I like card games with deep mechanics. The music can be repetitive with several minutes of play.

Noce work

kotzi 2021-05-05 10:17

@phlebas the flashlights allow you to flip a card before moving to it (you need to select it in order to use it). I think we definitely failed with the communication there.

@kr4ft3r yes, the transitions could be way smoother, I just realized that. Thanks for your feedback!

@franciszek-pyrc thanks for your feedback! most of the things you said were left out of scope sadly, but we'll keep them in mind. BTW, I want to play your game too but don't have any Windows at the moment, hope to do it soon!

Thanks everyone for playing it!

saintchristopher777 2021-05-05 10:55

Fun game, I really enjoyed it! Love the Atlantis theme. An expanded version with more encounters and mechanics could be fun too!

stin 2021-05-05 13:54

Nice game and idea of game is good. But it is not my type of game. Anyway game is good

villanelle 2021-05-05 20:54

Great take on the theme. Didn't see nothing quite like this one in this Ludum Dare's edition actually. The mechanics are simple and the game has a good pace. Good upgrade options and variety of cards. I enjoyed the experience, thanks for this entry!

msipp27 2021-05-06 16:59

Kept not getting a vending machine, then when I get to atlantis despite this, they kill me. was ok other then that, should add a system so that things the player needs are more likely so it doesn't feel like the game screws you over. would have been nice to know about the flashlight thing.

kotzi 2021-05-06 18:01

@msipp27 we tried to keep the balance simple, we kind of have that idea in mind but didn't make it in time. Thanks for the feedback!

And thanks everybody for playing, rating and commenting it!

etrealjunior 2021-05-08 16:28

Your game is very fun, I already knew similar versions, but the one you made was very beautiful, I know it is a version for jam, but I hope that in the future you will continue working on this project, make sure that when you reach certain meters you gain collectibles, and add effects and animations and I'm sure it will reap great results, I hope I helped a big hug my friends.

gord10ahmet 2021-05-08 19:22

Interesting game! I loved the idea.

ismael-rodriguez 2021-05-08 21:57

Pretty cool game. At first I didn't understand the appeal because the cards felt totally random. Then I discovered the flashlight ability. I was thinking it could be cool to just show players *some* cards for free, so we can feel like we have SOME agency over the RNG.

There's also a little lag time when we have to wait for some of the event screens to go away, that was kind of annoying as I just wanted to keep clicky clicky clicking!

I didn't understand how to enter Atlantis, I must have been attacked over a dozen times. So I had to read the comments to see I needed to purchase the mystery item. I guess that's my fault, but in my defense, it's the last card on the menu, and costs the most, so I usually just bought oxygen or a flashlight.

The artwork is good. There is an appropriate amount of juice, particles and squishy cards. I think there is some potential to be a little more "extravagant" with the visuals. The font is a little boring (I think it's the default unity font?), and the blue background is kind of bland.

Sorry to say, the music was not enjoyable, so I'm glad there was a mute button. I think sound effects would be nice.

Overall this is a very good entry, and fun game to play through a few times. Good job!

aeveis 2021-05-09 05:15

I beat it! At first I wasn't sure if the game had started since the cards have the game name, so I thought it was a title screen. But after the initial few clicks I got it. I like how it ended up being kind of a puzzle with figuring out how to get into the city with the different cards. Nice job!

kotzi 2021-05-09 17:35

Thank you all for the feedback! We're already working on a post jam version :rocket:

locustjin 2021-05-13 10:42

I beat the game :P, It was fun but little short, overall nice idea!

binaryprinciple 2021-05-15 20:57

The idea is excellent and satisfying, good call on been able to get a flashlight.

Honestly I don't have any feedback because the game is really good. Maybe expand it, new cards, options for defending and more mistery items.

Awesome game! Really fun and I love the artstyle.

laurari 2021-05-16 14:45

AMAZING job!!!! I found the city in 575 meters the 3rd run

I looooooove the graphics and the idea of the game, and I think it matches the theme perfectly

I would suggest to modify a little the music, I had to turn it off because it is super repetitive. And I would also add some more info when fighting an enemy, as I didn't know if it was a game of probabilities every time, or if each animal did a different amount of damage (it turns out they do xD).

However, really nice game!!! :clap_tone1: :clap_tone1: :clap_tone1:

Y un toque genial poder jugar en castellano :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: seguid con el buen trabajo!!! :trophy:

yword 2021-05-17 16:48

Yeah, I just entered the Atlantis! Really innovative idea, simple but addictive, nice works!

oadt 2021-05-17 17:14

Neat small game! I feel like fighting has a 0 or 100% win chance depending on whether you have the weapon or not, maybe I would have kept some bit of randomnes there. The game was pretty fun. At first I thought this will be pure RNG, but it felt pretty fair. Graphics and music are great! The mysterious 150$ item in the store motivated me to keep playing, so I reached Atlantis after 850 meters (the first thing I revealed with the flashlight )

kotzi 2021-05-18 08:42

@oadt battles are random in both cases, but with the harpoon you got like 80% chances to win. Also we're doing some adjustments for the post jam version to reduce the sensation of the RNG even more.

Thank you all for the great feedback and your nice comments
