LD46 — Keep it alive

Junior Juggle by miltage 2020-04-20T15:43:43Z

Very cool. Great twist on the theme. Side note it seems to be suffering from some scaling or alignment issues - when I popped it open the baby was out in the lower right corner of the screen. Probably something to do with Macs and Retina Display like they do.

Livefire by lonewookie 2020-04-20T15:30:37Z

This is really great. Love the angle on the theme... and the Tetris gone flaming idea is just :fire: (pun intended). I really gotta check out this Pico8 thing. So sweet and retro.

He Protec by ildfuglen 2020-04-24T19:45:23Z

Great idea. Love that you can continue from where you die. Would love to be able to press SHIFT to run.

A drop of light. by cowa 2020-04-20T17:23:29Z

Neat. It worked ok on the web for me. I like the check-point / charge mechanic. Good stuff.

Love the Baby by Myles McCoy 2020-04-20T16:40:43Z

Ahh... that :poop: animation!! So good. Nice work.

Headbutt by waynetron 2020-04-22T02:42:13Z

I really like the vector graphics treatment. Tough game but fun and nice take on the theme.

Orbit One by scottthoo 2020-04-20T03:55:11Z

Great idea. Simple but pretty tough. I could see this getting all sorts of good and addicting with the right sound and shiny bits. Great work.

Mark by Corny 2020-04-20T16:20:07Z

Haven't played but... love the art style and the polish. Once I get on my Win machine tonight I'll revisit.

Fishing Around by TheGameGoyal 2020-04-20T19:49:20Z

I got 340! I love clicking on the fish to make them breed. Best surprise was when I finally got one of the fast bois to do it and it spawned a whole mess of them. Great stuff... keep on coding!

Fishing Around by TheGameGoyal 2020-04-20T19:50:02Z

Oh and the music loop is sweet. Would be amazing to get some water animation on the top layer there.

Finn the Fox by Daniel Conway 2020-04-20T06:04:58Z

Love this. Cute and well rounded concept and execution.

For Ducks' Sake by GaryS 2020-04-22T22:13:01Z

Doooohhh.... this is great! I've been seeing posts of the graphics (Twitter maybe?) and it is great to see it playable. Some minor issues with bounding other peeps have mentioned and I ran out of ducks but didn't get the game over screen once... but whatever... this is amazing work for 72 hours. In love with the gnome art and run loop. The slow mo grab on the last duck is just :two_hearts:

Burndown by Symnel 2020-04-20T19:35:16Z

I like it. Favorite feature is the little compass so you don't get lost. Nice touch. Also dig the simple start up / menu screen. So... I found the Rubiks cube... do I get a prize? :P

Karmagotchi - A virtual friend by PronomicalArtist 2020-04-20T19:51:42Z

Super cute. Love the tamagochi++ as a take on the theme. Amazing work for 48hrs.

Servers & Sockets by Noxbuds 2020-04-20T16:10:54Z

This is great. I'm going to end up spending some time playing this. I love the pixel-rope dynamics and the whole concept. A little hard to sort out how best to network -- but that's what makes me want to play it some more. Great work!

Servers & Sockets by Noxbuds 2020-04-21T01:57:25Z

@noxbuds ~128~ 142 has been my best still one of my favorite :blue_heart: entries and I've looked at a bunch. (I feel like the server overloads even if I keep all of the servers at green levels - not sure if that's expected.)

Turbine Troubles by FussenKuh 2020-04-20T19:44:11Z

Ah... that typing sound is genius. Cool game -- pretty tough. I like the twist on shooting to repair. I also dig the warping you have over the screen. Great stuff.

Keep IT Fed by Jammin 2020-04-20T15:58:51Z

Hahah... what they said. I also dig the Paperboy shout out. :)

Alpacas don't like fire! by NouCake 2020-04-20T06:20:08Z

Good stuff. Brings me back to the day of Llamatron

Keep This Rust Bucket Flying by Cameron Borthwick 2020-04-20T16:13:12Z

I dig the concept. I couldn't figure out how to play the mini games tho. Maybe it needs like a simple text instruction for each a-la WarioWare.

Keep your heart alive by Wizart 2020-04-22T13:53:38Z

I like it. Good stuff. Love the way the theme was addressed and the humor in a serious situation.

Hungy Hungy Dwagons by cheesepencil 2020-05-06T17:17:37Z

Finally got a chacce to pop in -- this is great. I love the deformation of the dragon neck... the fire effects and of course the voice acting. Good show!

Breaking Egg by Mulberg 2020-04-22T05:35:19Z

Great twist on a classic mechanic. Impressed that you got a few levels in and everything. Good stuff. Gonna peep that tones.wolfram too how cool is that.

Anti-Toxin by Deacon 2020-04-20T16:02:43Z

Great twist on the theme. I love the inclusion of a minimap.

The Cave by Gonzako 2020-04-20T16:06:51Z

Love the lighting and the ghostly feels.

Precious Animals by despdair 2020-04-20T17:29:08Z

I like it. Great concept. Pretty hard to play and yeah I think unity crashed after I played thru once. Good work for the Compo!

50 Shades of Pray by robstao 2020-04-20T03:51:11Z

Holy wars! I dig it. Nice work.

Balloon Balloon! by JetTheSimon 2020-04-20T03:37:42Z

Nice work. Love the concept and how much you were able to get done in 48!

Rescue turtles by A-312 2020-04-20T04:39:38Z

Great concept. Good stuff for a quick jam.

Where did this baby come from? by maxflav 2020-04-20T03:45:40Z

Good concept... edgy lol. But I really love the twist on the puzzle. Feels like the jump from the first to the second is a lot. Still great stuff. Poor babies.

Reforest by Fizzget 2020-04-23T13:48:45Z

Just floored like most people by the application of tabletop sim as a platform for making games. Off the charts for innovation. The card art is great. I know how painstaking working in tabletop sim can be so kudos!

Nature by rjerez192 2020-04-20T19:39:27Z

Great work. I'm impressed with how feature rich the game is. The graphics are sweet and of course the music is solid. Tho I was waiting for the djent and growl to drop. ;)

Anti-Matter by MikDionio 2020-04-20T16:16:48Z

This is great. Brings me back to the old Atari game Warlords for some reason. I really love the simplicity and how friggin hard it is. Kinda wish I had a round paddle controller to play it. :)

Haiku, and the Mother Virus by Mister Morris Games 2020-04-20T16:24:11Z

Very impressed by the polish you got in 48hrs. Plays great, smooth effects, and just neat panic gameplay. The artwork is mmm so good.

Good Shapes, Bad Shapes by ishmandoo 2020-04-20T03:42:08Z

Nice angle to use this sort of lighting demo scenario as a game concept. Pretty incredible for a weekend. I would love to see some sort of trail being left by your guy or maybe it would grow brighter as you collect the small bois making you safe from dimmer shadows? I dunno. Good stuff tho!

BUBBLE BOY by NEKORUMA 2020-04-22T05:37:36Z

What a great twist. Love the old LCD Game In Watch theming. Awesome.

Fatter by axeltherabbit 2020-04-20T15:24:18Z

Love the way you approached the concept. Really like that it's not just a fill meter but that the character changes depending on their food. Broccoli killed me!! Not sure about the pro-junkfood message - lol. Great work for a first game!

It's Alive! ...Keep it That Way by erkoply 2020-04-22T05:30:40Z

This is great. Really gave me the old school WarioWare feels. Curious if the different paths are generated or designed.

Keep Ye Alive by JoskerDu 2020-04-20T16:26:53Z

Yeah - it needs a text prompt in the shop panel. There's a lot more I could do. Basically... the game plays itself -- and you just **click the potion in the store panel to heal the Hero**.

Keep Ye Alive by JoskerDu 2020-04-20T18:10:26Z

Totally. Thanks @cjgammon.

Keep Ye Alive by JoskerDu 2020-04-20T20:17:42Z

@sergei That's right! Glad you got the twist. I like that idea of switching up roles as a mechanic too.

Keep Ye Alive by JoskerDu 2020-04-20T20:24:02Z

**Thanks everyone for the early votes and for your comments, feedback and ideas.** I've made games all my life but this is my first time participating in this jam. Feels good. :two_hearts: I'm going to clean up the code and get a little more polish on it and put the source and assets up on the github (currently empty) link above. It'll probably take a couple of weeks with my schedule but feel free to star the repo or just check back later.

@sergei, @nicolasmaclean, @jamesor, @pronomicalartist, @myles-mccoy, @bereg, @tero-pulkkinen, @ioan-pop, @pulkit-garg, @kinshuk-thebest, @rsim, @thegamegoyal, @rjerez192, @mailman, @fussenkuh, @jetthesimon You all rock. :metal:

Keep Ye Alive by JoskerDu 2020-04-21T01:25:29Z

@matt2728 Thanks for playing. It is probably possible to live forever if you spam health potions. In the future I would have a wave system and the enemies would get tougher. Potions would have a re-spawn timer; possibly causing you to have to purchase a more expensive potion because the cheap one hasn't re-spawned. I want to add other items too, weapons, armor, etc... but 24hrs just wasn't enough. ;) I'm going to keep working on this until October and I'll keep the repository public for anyone who wants to help or just grab it and re-skiin it.

Keep Ye Alive by JoskerDu 2020-04-22T05:02:29Z

Thanks @d1str4kt0r ! I appreciate you saying so. I'm going to keep working at it for a while when I have the time.

I don't want to update the compo page, that wouldn't be fair... but I'm posting updates here as I go: https://www.jrvisuals.com/games/ld46-latest/ and also pushing the source code to a public repository here: https://github.com/jrod-disco/ld46-keepalive

Keep Ye Alive by JoskerDu 2020-04-22T22:03:50Z

Thanks @erkoply ! I had a lot of fun -- so hard to get a good run loop in 4 frames. :runner: I've got a URL above your comment where I'm continuing the work.

Keep Ye Alive by JoskerDu 2020-04-23T23:00:19Z

Thank you @fizzget I appreciate the feedback. I'm definitely going to do the October LD -- trying to get a team of 3 together for that one.

Keep Ye Alive by JoskerDu 2020-05-06T15:19:06Z

Thank you @cheesepencil much appreciated - and thanks for stopping by the stream! I think I'm going to keep working on this and streaming progress until the next LD in October.

My hungry Pet Piranha Plant by Lepton 2020-04-20T16:38:20Z

Ah.... such a good idea. It was super hard for me to grab the flies -- like I finally caught one but then the plant wouldn't eat it. :bug: ?

LD47 — Stuck in a loop

Ouroboros Paradox by TolMera 2020-10-05T22:32:26Z

Ruh roh... I think the link is broken. Will come back. Screenshots look great.

Loop Frogs by GaryS 2020-10-06T03:54:06Z

Love it. Well done team! The frog voices are great... and the way Green walks cracks me up. :frog:

Blind Faith by sohakes 2020-10-06T03:17:00Z

Love the take on the theme - and yes like @sanojian I wish there were a way to break the cycle but we know better. Nice work.

ludum factorum by AMastryukov 2020-10-05T22:30:36Z

Haha -- so good. A world within a world.

Active Cell by Jonas Michael 2020-10-05T22:56:10Z

Very cool. Tests my patience. Great work team!

Light footsteps after the rain by Chocolat-Endive 2020-10-07T12:58:19Z

But is it art? Yes; yes it is. Thanks for something very different.

Spirit Journey by theStoff 2020-10-06T01:10:21Z

Nice twist on the loop. Loved the intro - very cool.

Undead Carnival Carnage by dummydojo 2020-10-09T03:15:24Z

Well done Dummy Dojo. Simple, tight, and oh so right.

Orbit by ZEN 2020-10-05T22:14:14Z

Love this game. The audio, the pixels, the simplicity of it. Well done team!

Definitely some RNG issues with the level - once I started with 0 and won immediately but that's not losing any points with me. :)

Don't Stress that Beat! by JoskerDu 2020-10-05T15:41:45Z

@rhoff95 Thank you! Yeah we went back and forth about having that in there permanently... or even starting off with "tips" for each of the icons for the first few times they come up. Given more time we would do something like that.

Don't Stress that Beat! by JoskerDu 2020-10-05T16:07:04Z

@dogman Oh man. Thanks for pointing that out. Yeah we used the slider component as a shortcut. LOL Thank you for the feedback.

Don't Stress that Beat! by JoskerDu 2020-10-05T18:58:05Z

Some last minute updates. No more cheating by moving the slider and permanent instructions on which icon goes with each arrow key!

Don't Stress that Beat! by JoskerDu 2020-10-07T13:18:17Z

@raphiell good catch - haha always something that slips by - thanks for playing

Don't Stress that Beat! by JoskerDu 2020-10-07T13:20:09Z

@lychee & @printablealice totally agree - that's what we were going for but we ran out of time before we could sort out how to get the music and animation timing just right - might be something we go back and tweak because it really was about 50% of the concept. Thank you for playing and for the feedback!

Don't Stress that Beat! by JoskerDu 2020-10-07T13:20:58Z

@echo-gameworks thanks for playing glad you got a laugh! I'd love to do a second pass at the music and sound per the previous comment

Don't Stress that Beat! by JoskerDu 2020-10-07T13:28:44Z

@etrealjunior Just played your game and left a comment. Good stuff.

Danger Beat by rhoff95 2020-10-05T15:53:29Z

This is fantastic. I love how the beat builds and the way you addressed the theme. I would love for this to somehow be a twin stick shooter -- or at least to be able to use a controller. Maybe have some limited shield resource or power ups to shake things up. Solid entry and quite an accomplishment for a compo.

Resurrection by etrealjunior 2020-10-07T13:28:12Z

Great art and music. Loved the theme... and really liked that it was really 3 games in one. It would be nice if you could control the speed of the hummingbird's flight but that's a small thing. Well done!

Cycloop by Erlioniel 2020-10-07T12:43:03Z

Great stuff. Love the pixel art and the way the game addresses the theme.

Super picky, and I know there is never enough time - but another nice touch would be to have the shadow stay on the ground when the player jumps -- or even just fade out when they're in the air.

Mechanic in a Loop by Dogmann 2020-10-05T16:12:59Z

Looking forward to seeing what you all put together. (Current link isn't working but I see you're working on an update.)

Mechanic in a Loop by Dogmann 2020-10-05T22:24:07Z

Nice work team! Very interesting approach to storytelling. Looking forward to see what you make in the future.

LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Susane the Sub by BoltKey 2021-04-27T13:43:38Z

Adorable. Amazing that you had time to get all of these features in.

BulletWell by SecretPocketCat 2021-04-27T15:11:18Z

Love it... yeah... the pixel art... the tunes... the concept. Good stuff. My favorite thing is the way the bucket on the music slider turns as you drag it... just a nice subtle touch.

Deep Mine Time by Grewoss 2021-04-27T13:51:33Z

Neat game. Good job. I've used Phaser a bunch... pretty great. If you haven't tried it check out PIXI also... less of a game engine and more of a renderer but if you're a JS person you might like it. I set up a decent boilerplate for it.

Deep Treasure by Wesley Vong 2021-04-27T15:06:47Z

Love the pixel art. Good stuff. Obviously with more time having 2-3 frames of walk animation for the enemies would go a long way.

Dangerous Treasure by MtWhateverest 2021-04-27T04:20:41Z

Good job on your first LD! The game was enjoyable even though it was pretty short. Took me a few tries to get wise to the sharks. ;)

Kira's Flower Delivery by peterfiftyfour 2021-05-03T21:07:24Z

Loved the hand drawn art and the point of view perspective. Good stuff.

Snake in a Cave by Andrew Hoyer 2021-04-27T13:55:30Z

Love it. Great twist on a classic. The pixel art is adorable.

Elevator Goes Up? by Generic Games 2021-04-27T21:03:44Z

I like it. Played it until I got into orbit and maybe I killed it when I drilled down after. Love the architectural styled graphics. Well done.

Into the Abyss (Deeper and Deeper) by JoskerDu 2021-04-26T09:13:48Z

@drilling-fox yeah... that's a thing... we're trying to get it better... sorry to be rude lol

Into the Abyss (Deeper and Deeper) by JoskerDu 2021-04-27T04:11:29Z

@embedder72 totally... the split idea would be great and give it more variety... also force the player to move around a bit more. Thank you so much for playing.

Into the Abyss (Deeper and Deeper) by JoskerDu 2021-04-27T04:12:59Z

@stefgrizzly Thank you for playing! We talked about adding treasure... or fish to collect. Things to add variety and also get more points. Also wanted to add a Kraken tentacle to dodge... but time ran out and we shifted to polish and debugging.

Into the Abyss (Deeper and Deeper) by JoskerDu 2021-04-27T13:35:21Z

@mtwhateverest Thanks for checking it out. Yeah we wanted a bit of claustrophobia to kick in... but at the same time a larger space would yield more variety. I have a feeling we'll be tweaking this after Ludum Dare and share a "post launch" link if we get some of the feedback and things from our wishlist in.

Into the Abyss (Deeper and Deeper) by JoskerDu 2021-04-27T20:44:51Z

Thanks @shaolin-dave - you're totally right. We have no real balancing on the pickups so you're at the mercy of the RNG. It's subtle but the pickups will go to 50% opacity when you can no longer pick them up and they're "above" you.

Into the Abyss (Deeper and Deeper) by JoskerDu 2021-04-28T14:47:10Z

Thanks @andrew-hoyer yes... debris or mines would be a great addition. I also had the idea of a Kraken tentacle that would come in from the side and try to swat you.

Into the Abyss (Deeper and Deeper) by JoskerDu 2021-04-28T14:47:57Z

@grewoss awesome - thanks... would love to hear back from you if you were able to win... we've been getting conflicting reports about it being impossible due to resource shortages.

Into the Abyss (Deeper and Deeper) by JoskerDu 2021-05-03T15:49:57Z

Hey... @zimny11 @kotz @kszaku ..thank you so much for the feedback. One thing we're looking at doing post LD is to add gamepad support and maybe some sort of tutorial hints about the controls. They were meant to be floaty... but can definitely feel a little funky if you're expecting to turn the ship rather than just point it in the direction you want to go.

ROOTS by TheGreenWorm 2021-05-03T15:47:19Z

:cherry_blossom: Well done. Probably my favorite compo entry so far.

Journey to Atlantis by Kotzi 2021-05-03T15:56:28Z

Good stuff... loved the art from the title screen to the end. (minus the start button :P) But seriously this was entertaining and a really great use of the theme. Well done!

Into The Depth by Szymon OGD 2021-04-27T15:17:43Z

Great stuff... I love that we did a similar concept and similar mechanics but in different perspectives. Cheers.

FallBot by Obelex 2021-04-27T21:21:45Z

I really like it. Not easy at all... but the 3d treatment is great. Good stuff.

Dungeon Painter by IanTheBee 2021-04-27T13:39:48Z

Great job. I love it... I will have to play some more now that I know there's an end!

Annoying falling game by TomH1 2021-04-27T20:51:11Z

Haha... good stuff... so annoying. :) Seriously though great first go. Congrats!
