That's a really novel mechanic, I love the trade-off between speed + safety. It's also fun to get going as fast as possible + try to launch right into the nest without dying. 🐔
If you decide to take it further (with multiple levels), consider adding a camera pan (from the goal to the spawn) at the start of the level. Seeing the map ahead of time will let me plan a strategy!

Thanks for the feedback @mikesalyh ! These are some good suggestions 👌
I got kinda exhausted from the day 2 of the Jam, so I wasn't even sure anymore if the idea of my game is any interesting at all...

I really enjoyed the bird theme and would be a fan of different bird skins in the future! The game mechanics and level design are fun though I'd make sure the player knows he needs to jump at the very end of the second level.

Thanks for the feedback @daxic !
I agree, the camera behavior could be much better) Maybe if I develop this idea further I'll figure out how to fix these usability issues
Hi. Nice game, I liked it. In lvl 2 there is a moment when you need to jump from one place to another, it's not quite obvious that there will be no moving platform so you need to jump. But overall the game is very addictive, it's sad that there are only two levels

@mulberg Thank you, mister! Very nice game and fits theme 100%! I like simple tune and simple cartoonish style.

Great twist on a classic mechanic. Impressed that you got a few levels in and everything. Good stuff. Gonna peep that tones.wolfram too how cool is that.

@mulberg Ha-ha! The same, I just used some jazz settings 😁. You can check the sound in my game here: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/economic-bubble

@room606 will do Thanks)
Nice game! I enjoyed it and felt it was polished and easy to control. An entry you should be really happy with!
Nice game, only two minor things to polish: 1) align the platforms so you don't have to wait if you are fast enough and maybe make an arrow or some hint for the leap of faith.

@pixelcrustpunk Thanks for the suggestions! Yeah, I definitely missed this leap of faith moment. Will take it into account when developing this idea further

I cringed every time my egg took damage. I was sooo careful, I was scared I wouldn't survive a 3rd level. 😀
Cool game!

That time, when you crack your egg just the second before reaching the nest! Love the simplicity of the game mechanic. With just two contols you got a pretty fun game. And thats the important part for a jam I think. Of course you could improve camera and graphics and stuff, but the concept is great.
Well done!
I will admit I found figuring out how fast I could go without damaging the egg was rather frustrating. I'm guessing I would develop a sense for it over time, but I wish there was some way to develop that sense more quickly. Like whatever calculation you're doing behind the scenes to determine how hard you're hitting, if you could display that in a piece of UI that would be interesting. Neat little idea for a jam though. I liked the music.

Hi @scott-steffes ! Thanks for the feedback.
I agree, the current physics calculation is far from great. I tried to figure out how to measure the force of impact in Unity, but anything I tried gave me inconsistent results (currently I'm just using relativeVelocity.magnitude). I'll try to polish this part of the gameplay if I decide to turn this into a full featured game.
Btw, for music I just used http://tones.wolfram.com/ generator, to generate a random tune =)

Fun little game. I enjoyed the level design
This was a fun little game, with some nice clean art and unusual music. The one big complaint I have with it is that it's not very clear what does and does not cause the egg to become damaged. Sometimes rolling along normally damages the egg, and sometimes dropping onto a surface does too, however sometimes neither does, and this inconsistency did not feel good and left me feeling cheated as a player when I lost as it didn't ever quite seem to be my fault. I did complete both stages of the game eventually, but if it had been clearer what I had an hadn't been doing correctly it would have felt more of an accomplishment and less like luck through trial and error.

Hi @historymaker118 ! Thanks for the feedback
Yes, the gameplay mechanics turned out to be very inconsistencies =( Unfortunately, I didn't have time to figure out the correct solution. (currently I’m just using relativeVelocity.magnitude). I’ll try to polish this part of the gameplay if I decide to turn this into a full featured game.
Btw, for music I just used http://tones.wolfram.com/ generator, to generate a random tune =)
Early on I was thinking to myself, "this egg is way too fragile," especially because I've seen eggs survive crazy things in other egg related games this LD, but when I played through it a second time I realized the physics and the difficulty are perfectly balanced. I can make a couple mistakes (or be a little reckless) to get the egg to the other side, but not too many mistakes, and not too reckless.
Well done.

@cheesepencil thanks for the feedback! I'll definitely spend more time balancing the main mechanics. As some players mentioned above, there are still lots of inconsistencies

This is super simple game idea, and it is really fun to play game. I like both the music and visual style. For me was the biggest issue that the game was too short. Overall a well made and fun jam game. Well done.

Awesome idea! I really love the controller and the overall smoothness of the game. The audio is great. Make a release on the mobile platform, polish the game a bit and maybe add a procedurally generated map and you have a great mobile game.
At first this looked like "just-another-egg-protecting" game. But boy... this has some speedlevel stress coming for free ! Very well done. It sometimes seems a bit punishing though and maybe an even snappier respawn would help. For example, in the second level I tried many things but I got hit anyway when spawning. Apart from that, pretty fun game, nice entry :) Thank you for making this.
Great game!
The music and the graphics fit the game very well.
Would be nice to play more levels.

Great game and interesting concept. Wouldn't guess you could make a game about an egg rolling down a hill :D. I enjoyed it, but I am a bit sad that there isn't more (but hey, it was made in 2 days). Good job!

Great game and a very cool concept. It will be really helpful if the game was easier

That was a lot of fun actually, and I think the game difficulty was perfect for a LD entry. Usually I find myself not wanting to retry if I fail a level in LD games, however since I really enjoyed the odd movement of the egg and the health system I gave it another try and was able to complete the level
The main issue is as others have pointed out there is no way to know if you should wait for a platform or do a leap of faith in the end of the second level. Having some indication even a sign telling you to jump would make it more clear.
I would have liked there to be some more levels with more variety to the core gameplay but this is actually a decent start of a game.

@jk5000 @ilidanox @javasaurus @keepoccino @banzi @slimbun @linus thank you all for the feedback!
The game is definitely not polished and I put not enough time into level design. But people seem to like the concept of the game. So, I'm going to try to release a full mobile version, as some suggested.
I haven't done any mobile development before, but that probably a good scope for a first releasable game.
Btw, you can follow me on twitter or itch. I'll post updates and some early builds. I also make some pixelart from time to time :)

@kiddychris oh, yeah: the jump of faith is not so obvious at first.
@mulberg About level design, at level 2 just before the second moving plateform, the grass shouldn't continue down, whereas we can think (and I did) that there is a second path (and there is none ^^). For a release on mobile, try to use the accelerometer to drive the speed of the egg, that could be fun : ).
And thanks to have played my game, as we are EggGame brothers ^^

I was quite impressed by the control of the egg, I'm sure that if we try to reproduce it with a real egg, it will behave the same !
In general, I had fun with your game, however I would have like to know the main goal before starting directly, indeed, I think that it would have been a smoother beginning to your game.
Overall nice work !

The game ran very smoothly and the graphics (background details especially) were neat!
I think the only thing the game needs is a little indication that the egg is approaching a speed where it could lose health (maybe it would turn a slightly different colour if moving fast, but not at breaking speed).
Great job!

The start of the level is a little difficult where you can lose a lot of health before you even really get started. After that the game worked well, it was interesting to try and get through the obstacles while managing your time and trying not to crack yourself open. Fun game!

I made it to the next nest! And then went full speed off cliff! It felt a bit hard to know what decides when the eggs gets damaged or not, and the layout is a bit simple - like I would have enjoyed a pit or some obstacles! - but the physics felt just right
