Very cute and polished! I love the theme, seasons, and cat animations.
In some ways, the earlier levels were harder than the later levels, because there was so much downtime waiting for the cat to 'reload'. The only change I would recommend is reducing the time between when the cat mauls the burglar and returns to your side.
The characters are nicely drawn, and I like the humor. It's really hard; it took me 5 tries to eventually beat one of the kids.
I liked the exploration and upgrade mechanics! By the end I was so powerful I could blow away the enemies easily though.
Really touching game. I love the ending, it's a clever use of technology (I won't write any spoilers!) The movement was very satisfying and smooth too. Thank you for sharing this!
PS. Did you hide any Easter eggs off the main path? I searched around a little but didn't find any (yet) ;)
Thanks for the feedback everyone!
@Blondhie: Great idea. Post-LD46, I'll make the swap.
@SneakyCocoon: Funny enough, I spent about 4 years working on kid's learning games (mostly for ABCMouse), but I didn't even consider that this would make a good kids game. I should add an easy mode after the compo.
@bigtinygames @matt2728 Thanks for the audio notes! I agree, it's too harsh right now. I bet it would sound great with animal crossing style babble.
@mrtroy Thanks for playing Mr. Troy! I wonder if I bumped up the contrast if it would make the pattern-matching more obvious?
I blame Carol Baskins. Really funny game. Love the graphics! I wish the roadkill section had a timer to tell me how long it took.
I haven't seen many jam entries with multiple characters and upgrades! I liked keeping the blade spinning quickly as my health! I got to the 4th room.
My main suggestion would be adding a HP bar to enemies, and making the enemies a brighter color so they're easier to see.
This reminds me of a "Lowfi beats" video. I could watch this dude walk for a long time! Nice art direction!
It would be fun to add different things to walk by, like scorpions, cow skulls, or saloons.
This is hard! But it's a lot of fun - I got up to 2 BBYs. Pushing them around is a fun mechanic, and I liked balancing between harvesting food and defending the BBYs.
I loved it - this is one of the only clicker games I've played with high-stakes. Saved the world after about 30 minutes.
I found the best way to play was constantly pausing between every decision, which turned this into a turn-based game. I enjoyed juggling all of the resources, and the humor.
That's a really novel mechanic, I love the trade-off between speed + safety. It's also fun to get going as fast as possible + try to launch right into the nest without dying. 🐔
If you decide to take it further (with multiple levels), consider adding a camera pan (from the goal to the spawn) at the start of the level. Seeing the map ahead of time will let me plan a strategy!
That was killer! I had so much fun, I'll keep this installed when its over. It reminded me of the best days of NG. I loved the strategy aspect of deciding what order to purchase the upgrades, and using life to get souls to get life. It took me about 25 minutes to finally beat it.
I found a bug where I could get hurt in the soul-hole, if I paused it when a spiked ball was directly on top of me.
"Not the bees! Not the bees!" The balloon physics are fantastic. I enjoyed the different kinds of enemies and powerups too. I accidentally died during the tutorial and it never came back; is there a way to review the tutorial?
I'll definitely be replaying this one. Right now, my high score is 196.
Really fun graphics + music. Placing the resources and watching them dwindle is satisfying too.
At first, I was intimidated because it looked complicated, but once I got into it I enjoyed it. (The tool tips helped a lot). It took me until year 80 to realize how the temperature worked though.
That was awesome! I got to day 11 before I went crazy. (This seems like real life...) I love all the little tounge-in-cheek news articles. Do the symptoms my character is feeling have any affect on the gameplay?
Also, I love the My Friend Pedro reference. 🍌 Congrats on finishing your first full game!
That was so much fun!! It took me 6 tries to beat the game, and I was pumped when I won. (I figured out a good strategy is hanging out by the tires of the bus; that's where your diagonals hit the choppers. And if you don't see any choppers, alternate spamming left + right along the road).
My only issue was that the bullets are hard to see. If you make them white with a dark-colored outline, it'll be easier to see them.
This is a cool mechanic; I've never seen drag + drop used like this before! Eventually I realized that I can use each class against itself, and that made the game a lot easier. Was that intentional?
If you decide to continue this game after the jam, you could illustrate the characters like 'Rock Warrior', 'Scissor Archer', 'Paper Mage' 😂
Wow!! This game is the real deal. I love the old school arcade difficulty; I spent about 30 minutes before I finally beat it. Lovely graphics, simple, crisp controls. 5/5!
Instead of a 'try again' button after dying, I would have preferred a 'go' button at the start of each level. That would have given me time to look at the board and strategize
I love 'games' that are unusual, and build a history among strangers. This is a wonderful site, and I hope it lasts for a while. Will you do anything to 'celebrate' when the site eventually self destructs?
That wasn't what I epxected when I saw the word "Whack a mole". Really enjoyed the particle FX, super satisfying to explode the moles. They were pretty quick though, and the guy wasn't always able to reach them in time. Fun concept.
Fun gameplay, I love me a good physics puzzle! Would *REALLY* benefit from instructions. It took me ~10m to releasize I could drag the kiwi. For anybody else who plays:
GOAL OF THE GAME: Destroy all the birds on each level. HOW TO PLAY: Click and drag to launch your kiwi, like a slingshot. Once you release, the kiwi will go flying, and gravity will do the rest. Press the little "R" in the corner to reset if you miss.
This is hilarious! I love the graphics, & the tutorial. Really polished excetution too! I beat it after about 15 minutes. The world is now safe from Carens.
I didn't understand what I was doing at first, but it finally clicked when I realized I could kill the lizards. I love fire emblem style tacitcs games, so this was very satisfying. Eventually beat all the levels. I'm at it again! :rocket:
Really fun and relaxing. The music and art sets a great, cozy mood and the gameplay was medetative & enjoyable. My only wish was a way to zoom in/out without a mouse wheel; I don't have one!
I love tactical games! This was a blast to play and the art/audio suited it well. I don't think I've ever played a game with mechanics like this one before.
I wish the game had better feedback to show when my shots were hitting vs. when they were missing. And by the bossfight, my sequence had gotten pretty long (10+ moves). It would have been nice to have a way to fast-forward the replay, so I wasn't watching the same action over and over.
Overall, this is one of the coolest games I've played in this jam so far!
Love the graphics, the theme, and the enemy! It was snappy and fun to play. Really glad the little enemies dropped HP or else I never would have won. Fun stuff!
Very surreal and mysterious! I loved the intro page; it set the mood for the game nicely. I wandered around the maze for a few minutes, but I wasn't able to find her eyes.
The walking speed felt a bit too fast for me; I had trouble controlling it.
This is one of the most innovative games I've played so far! Awesome work! I really dig the humor and character of it. The ending was funny too.
The third platforming level was especially hard though: I kept dying & getting back to that level was a slog.
Very enjoyable and crisp game! I liked the bird, and the general feeling of looping around the circle, building up gems. It's got a nice mix of strategy, luck, and good ol' fashioned farming. I wish there was a clearer visual distinction of what lvl. my tiles were tho.
Overall, great compo entry!
It's kind of like a rhythm-platformer. I love the character. Dashing to hit the notes is satisfying too. I wish that on game over, I would restart the current level instead of being sent back to Lv.1. It's hard!
I hear "Song 1" playing, but don't know what I'm supposed to do next. Do I have to pause the song at the right time?
Really wild and experimental! I liked the feeling of 'wtf is going on!?' that this gave me. There was a part near the end where I couldn't find a soldier to click, and the audio started looping in a kind of awkward way. I wasn't sure what to do, so I had to mute the game until I found the soldier. That was my only critique.
That was a fun and satisfying game. I enjoyed the graphics and music: they set a very cozy space mood. After playing for about 15 min, I made it to level 2. (I almost won, but got defeated!)
My two suggestions: when I hit a planet, my direction should be preserved (clockwise vs. counter clockwise). That would let me strategize a bit more. And the players hitbox felt a bit large. Sometimes I would die, but I didn't see the astronaut touch anything.
Overall, fun game!
Super crisp and fun graphics! I love all the animations, characters, and screen shake. The persistant corspes was a really nice touch too.
The gameplay started out a little slow, but as it went on, it got a more engaging. Do I lose points for letting the humans interact w/ the non haunted objects? I couldn't tell.
The mood was so eeire and cool. This is the most immersive LD47 game I've played so far. The droning music really added to the experience. Like others have said, I wish the movement was faster, so that I could explore more freely. I liked the game mechanics, but when I died, I didn't want to go back thru.
Great submission!
The platforming is fun, but its very icy! I wish there was a bit more friction. Nice graphics and animations. I like the look of the spike traps too.
Cool theme, but it took me a while to understand how to play. It would be nice if there was a clever differentiation between "Time is up" and "Death". They look very similar.
I done died, brother! I like that it felt like a mini escape room, although I don't understand how to survive. So far, I put the pan on the stove, and then self destruct every time. Is there a combo of buttons to stop the self destruct? (I found the four emojis on the back of the note, but idk what to do with them)
Nice music and art style. I got to level 2! My only gripe was that the movement of the hamster felt sluggish sometimes. Since the hamster can only move on the beat, I wish he was faster to get to his new destination. Overall, very nice game!
Very enjoyable graphics, music, and style. I had a lot of fun launching the little people and recapturing them.
Sometimes, the people would clip right through my coaster though, and that was frustrating. It's especially prominent when I go over the first hill slowly.
I'm not sure I understood how to play this entry: can I do anything with the falling acorns? Backgrounds were pretty and the music was soothing tho!
Wow, that's sharp! I'm loving the art style, ambiance, and slower-pace to the thinking. I got thru the first 8 levels; I'll probably come back to play some more tomorrow!
My main critique is that the font is hard to read. It took me a bit longer than it should of to get into the game, just because I had a hard time comprehending the directions. But when I understood the mechanics, this is a lot of fun! :)
I don't have a fitbit, but I LOOOVE this idea. So cool to see Jam entries on nontraditional mediums. Keep it up!
Absolutely incredible! This might be my favorite LDJam game of all time. Hilariously meta, and all of the minigames were fun! I loved the art direction which tied everything together. Really captures the spirit of what game jamming is all about. (Especially the cat-petting breaks). The final minigames of submitting and rating were such a charming little touch; I wasn't expecting that!
My only crit is that I wish each day was a couple of minigames shorter. This is an absolute gem, thanks for making it! :)
Waaagh! The "I'd rather not" prompt at the start got a good laugh out of me. Nice, classic type of game. I wish the protagonist moved faster, so I could do more dynamic dodging. The inclusion of different guns was nice.
Move over Cult of the Lamb, it's time for... this! Such a cool concept, simple, tight execution. Can't ask for more than that! The twist in the second half was a lot of fun.
Amazing graphics, sound, and theme use!! Reminded me of Cuphead. The gameplay was pretty hard though, I had a tough time getting the hand into position. Thanks for the fun submission! :)
"At the ready!" Awesome turn-based combat. I really liked the way units could attack multiple enemies if they were positioned properly. The mix of units was just right -- enough for tactical variety without getting overwhelmed. Lot of fun!
That was very atmospheric! It almost had an escape-room vibe! I liked using the scanner to follow the footsteps, and also to find the keycard. How did you achieve the Heatmap effect?
My main critique was that the "snapshot" effect was disorienting when it took over my whole screen. I wish it just stayed on the camera, or otherwise didn't cause "double vision".
Loving this concept; I'd play this if it was a full game.
Love the vibe of this game! I played for about 15 min, and built all the docks. I couldnt figure out how to make money, so I had to stop after that. I dig all the different alien races; it made me think of Star Control. If this was a full game, I'd buy it. I hope you guys keep developing it in the future! :)
Hilarious VO as always. I love the animation of the lil dudes in the background cheering me on. Was I supposed to buy out the whole store every round? That was my strategy + it was generally a winning one. The idea of a rapid-fire auto-battler has a lot of promise.
Love the clock hand moving as a physical barrier; great use of theme. It was very satisfying to move the gun turrets around! I thought I was being clever by putting them up against walls, only for them to turn around!
I wish the things you had to protect were a little more "themed" though; I'm not sure what they were supposed to be. Briefcases?
I'm not patient enough for this game haha. I like the idea of an idle game, going on in the background! Your screenshots gave me a sense for what I could build if I put my mind to it.
I wish there was a warning to delete buildings: a house takes 4 minutes to save up for, and I destroyed mine in an instant!
That's a great pinball game! The art caught my eye, and I enjoyed all the different modifiers. It took me a bit to get the hang on what they all did, but once I had it, it was a lot of fun! I wish the center clock was elsewhere through, I kept thinking it was a physical object that would deflect my ball. Overall -- great submission!
Wow!! I don't think I've ever seen a detective game crossed with a platformer. I love the dialogue and characters; it was a really compelling story too. Gave me phoenix wright vibes. The only thing I'd knock is that it doesn't have much to do with the theme.
But besides that, great submission! One of my favs that I've played so far!
Poor grandma, she's being chased by demons! I like the music and art direction -- those enemies are pretty creepy! Do I automatically lose HP every 10 seconds? is there any way to dodge that?
I'm digging the art. I'm not sure if I did it "right", but I found the guy with the key and pushed him up to the door. Was I supposed to do something with the drawers? I opened them all, but they seemed empty.
The premise of fighting a boss who changes states every 10 seconds is cool. IMO, there were a few too many states & spells tho, so I often found myself forgetting what-beats-what. Maybe the game would benefit if there were only 3 states, so that it could use rock-paper-scissors logic. I really liked jumping and dodging the ball, and the replenishable health was a great touch.
Don't show this to a perfectionist!
I like QWOP and surgeon simulator games, so this was fun to mess around with. I never managed to get the progress bar above half way though -- sometimes I thought I had a good recipe but it still dinged me as "bad"; not sure what I was missing. The music was perfectly on point with the gameplay!
Love the balance between wanting to be big + wanting to be small. That was some good puzzle platforming! I also liked the laser traps that encouraged you to be patient; I kept zapping myself on them. Good stuff!
