Good looking and very original i'd say, Sadly my mom disowned me :< .Would love to see the diagram of logic behind the hood.

homoludens 2020-04-20 04:36

My mom disowned me 10/10. You could have used the screen space a bit more effectively but overall interesting game.

lectvs 2020-04-20 04:36

Neat little text game. Congrats on publishing your first game!

thor-lucas 2020-04-20 04:38

"Asian people eat hardship for a living" LMAO good stuff. Very funny, although pretty dark game. Seriously hilarious. Although I started getting into a loop — I saw the same screens several times. Would love some more branches to this game! Goodjob!

sneakycocoon 2020-04-20 04:53

@thor-lucas thanks for the feedback! I was running out of time so couldn't patch a lot of content in. I spent too much time building the mechanic for chaining event but end up not using it so definitely a good lesson learnt for me.

sayumeki 2020-04-20 06:09

Constantly losing sanity, buying Switch indie games like crazy, seems like a very accurate simulation (especially with parents). Nice work! Is there an endgame or is it just to last as long as possible? I saw the unique event about getting your $200 back but a lot of day-to-day was pretty same. Having a few rotating "flavors" for supermarket, etc could help with that! Nice work!

sneakycocoon 2020-04-20 06:24

@sayumeki unfortunately due to time constraint there's no endgame :) I originally wanted to put a fast forward event as a hidden end game where you survive until a few years on and the world would morph into a post apocalypse state. Definitely aware of my low event pool. That'll be smth i work on post LD

mikesalyh 2020-04-20 06:45

That was awesome! I got to day 11 before I went crazy. (This seems like real life...) I love all the little tounge-in-cheek news articles. Do the symptoms my character is feeling have any affect on the gameplay?

Also, I love the My Friend Pedro reference. 🍌 Congrats on finishing your first full game!

owl-skip 2020-04-20 06:46

Good work getting it out there! Eerily effective and a little too close to my life right now for comfort. Played it for a bit then shivered in a corner for the next half hour. What did you build it in?

retti01 2020-04-20 06:47

Sanity, where did you go. Pretty nice game too;D

ubershmekel 2020-04-20 06:53

Interesting setup of the UI. I got a bit bored with so much text, but I did have fun seeing my symptoms rack up. Is it strange that I kind of liked to lose? Kind of like how you can enjoy violence in games but not real life, so it felt good to get sick in the game. Strange. Thanks :)

sneakycocoon 2020-04-20 07:03

@mikesalyh Glad you found out the My Friend Pedro reference  Essentially there's a chance that you might catch Corona and the symptoms are an approximation of that (hint: there's flu, cold & corona in the game so you have to guess which one do you have). There'll be a hospital event added to the pool if you catch any of the symptom. However since i code it as a random generator for event now, it might not show up for you.

@owl-skip i built it with Haxe & Heaps, the underlying engine MotionTwin used for DeadCell

@retti01 glad you enjoy it. I hope i had time to add more sanity regeneration event

@ubershmekel Yes! that was the feeling i strike for in the game as well. Essentially some dark humor to release the pent up energy we have from lock down

jetthesimon 2020-04-20 08:00

Was nice, would like a bit more than text but hey, it is a text adventure! Funny game and very relevant for now!

Nice job!

martintale 2020-04-20 08:07

Enjoyed playing it! :) I would suggest to allow choosing option using up/down keys and then pressing space.. That seems so much more natural to me than using W/S/Space and then pressing enter.. :)

leon-oost 2020-04-20 08:30

Haha, This game is awesome. Really like to see the symptons list going up!.

chertkov 2020-04-20 08:34

Really liked your take on health: player may have symptoms of covid but still be not contagious. Also enjoyed Reigns-like balance between stats. Text is repeated maybe too often, but we all had only 48 hours. Overall, relevant and witty - just what we all need.

sneakycocoon 2020-04-20 08:42

@martintale good idea. Let me bake that in to my post LD update patch.

@chertkov thanks for noticing the Reigns-like balance. Paper Please & Reigns are definitely game i have in mind when making this!

singleshoe 2020-04-20 10:12

That was a ton of fun, and definitely quite out of the ordinary. Found the dialog and the dangerous gangs of otters in the park quite funny. Nice work!

millhow 2020-04-20 10:23

It was cool to play your game ! I like game where we have to make choices. But I think I have infected to many people... ^^ Capture2.PNG

ironygames 2020-04-20 10:26

Nice highscore / story sistem, although I'm not sure what to say about the stereotypes

saviqq 2020-04-20 10:31

Oh boy! This one was super cool and clever. I enjoyed messing with it, here are few notes:

**Things I liked** - cool idea, fitting the theme and also situation in the world - great execution, especially In The News part gave a game nice flavor and made me laugh - easy to understand, simplicity in positive way

**Thing I would improve** - music -> biggest grip that I had with the game was lack of any sound, some background music would add better atmosphere to the game and some sound effect would improve user experience - options felt repetitive after a while, bigger variety would made it more engaging - I felt that In The News was mainly there to add flavor to the game, but it had bigger potential to affect your daily decisions making

Overall I feel this game was very nicely executed, especially in such short time

willypa 2020-04-20 10:36

Super fun game, I am sure that If I am bored sometime I will play this game

sneakycocoon 2020-04-20 10:52

@saviqq thanks for your very detailed comment. I have a few idea of how i would make the event system even more intricated:

• Chaining event, i.e one event trigger the addition of another event. For example, there's a reference to My Friend Pedro event which original i planned to introduce his wife & kids after the player have met him:D

• Some kind of feedback from "In the news" to act as prediction for what future events will come. For example, having heard that police is keeping a close watch on an upcoming protest will give you a hint of what to come when you encounter the protest itself.

• Introduce government policy to reduce the spread rate of the virus. Player's decision can affect how this government policy will steer

• And overall much bigger pool of events for you to play with.

@willypa: glad to know you enjoy it

jeremyfa 2020-04-20 12:18

Quite a lot of content for such a little jam game! Design is very simple but it works :). I would suggest to try adapt display of each part of the interface to make them more recognizable and more readable though. Congrats on your first full game!

connorthompson 2020-04-20 12:30

Loads of stuff here for a ludum game, great work mate :)

pronomicalartist 2020-04-20 14:24

I liked the humor! The game designer scolded me for being heartless. Spoiler: I am.

wizzardmaker 2020-04-20 15:37

I really enjoyed that game!

Those news post were very interesting. Its was fun to take those decision and how it affected me. Really captured the feeling too

:star:

alessia-ip 2020-04-21 00:12

The "Do you have a soul comment" killed me haha! I love the minimalist feel you went with here, and I'm always a sucker for text adventures!!

maggardjosh 2020-04-21 17:31

Awesome game! I infected 921 people, oops! Very fun, would have liked some audio and a bit more variety in events. Also choosing the next event would have been interesting, I wanted to go to the doctor several times but had to wait for that event. Good work!

100th-coin 2020-04-22 18:07

Hahaa! Great writing!

mikejzx 2020-04-22 23:17

Like others said, the game is very well written! Some other games I saw sort of hinted at the pandemic whereas this one just directly addresses it. Quite fun!

lmb 2020-04-23 00:06

Kudos for your first game! A simple one, for sure, but it has a soul

Writing is very good, really funny! (That headline about the 5-second rule made me laugh out loud!)

I am afraid I don't have much useful feedback. I could say that the gameplay itself felt repetitive quickly, but looking at your replies to previous commenters I see you are well-aware of this.

So, keep learning and keep creating games!

meelo 2020-04-23 03:36

I tried to go to the doctor when I had all the symptoms. Instead my mom disowned me. Sadness ensued. But at least I brought 854 people down with me, mwahaha.

sneakycocoon 2020-04-23 04:03

@meelo I'm sorryyyyy, the doctor hasn't found a cure for Covid yet

2020-04-23 06:54

No sound or graphics really, but more than makes up for it in the writing. A great and topical usage of the jam theme.

adamcyounis 2020-04-23 06:57

I really liked this take (only the second coronavirus game i've seen so far). Though the mechanics were very simple, the writing kept me engaged for 10 minutes or so, so props for that. I thought there could have been a bit more diversity or direction to the overall story, as I ran into the same events quite often, maybe some events should happen a few days after others? (police men notice you from before and ask if you want a ride and some more cake?).

Overall I had fun, thanks for the game.

tattomoosa 2020-04-24 03:10

The writing was great but it could have used some more content
