The premise of fighting a boss who changes states every 10 seconds is cool. IMO, there were a few too many states & spells tho, so I often found myself forgetting what-beats-what. Maybe the game would benefit if there were only 3 states, so that it could use rock-paper-scissors logic. I really liked jumping and dodging the ball, and the replenishable health was a great touch.

rein 2022-10-03 05:58

Interesting idea, but the controls made it really hard to play and the range of your attack seems way too short. Also sometimes I would get hit and not take damage? I think a more clear indication in-game of what you are strong/weak against would be really helpful.

lepoulet 2022-10-04 05:47

Like other comment, I found the game a bit confusing, not knowing witch state I had to choose to attack. But the idea is cool and the job is done within 3 days. Great work!

googlypoo 2022-10-04 05:48

As cool as the the elements are, I feel like it'd be much much more intuitive it you had to match the color of the orb with the color of your attacks. As it was, I had to keep your diagram up from the instructions because I couldn't tell what beat what.

Good presentation, I like the music too. Felt thematic with the 10 second shifts. I got nowhere close to winning though

ha-kuro 2022-10-04 05:53

For a game made in two days, its quite abit to juggle. Honestly pretty good job with getting music, and art sorted ~ Gameplay wise, the sword could be larger and making the attacks have more weight to them (with a simple screen shake) can be really impactful and satisfying too, again hats off for joining Compo *:)*

artofluba 2022-10-04 05:56

I saw a bunny so I clicked! Graphics are super cool, physics are also nice! I love all bunny things so all I am wishing for is like, an exploration game with some boss fights like the orb battle. Please expand!! Bunnies forever!! I love the barrel roll... i just want... more .. XD

diego-escalante 2022-10-04 06:11

I think the game would benefit from having a tiny little diagram on-screen to help you remember what elements beat what. Or perhaps start with less elements, and increase the difficulty by adding new elements to keep track of. I got some hits in, but I didn't get anywhere close to winning. The game is creative though! I love the bunny character, and I really like how the sword flies off when you die. That was a nice touch. Good job!

payaosito 2022-10-04 06:20

@mikesalyh Thank you! Yeah, It seems that 5 is too much to juggle for most people, so I'll consider cutting down in the future! I really wanted to stay away from the Water/Fire/Grass trio because of pokemon, but maybe that's what works best. I think improving the visuals would help a bit too? Be able to tell them apart better.

@rein The attack range is something I wanted to work on but ran out of time. I think you not taking damage might be the damage boosting? Or at least I hope so haha, for about 3 seconds after getting hit you won't take damage. The sprite should be semi transparent, but maybe it's not working correctly.

@lepoulet Thank you, yeah I guess I have to find a way to make it clearer and/or cut down on some of the 'natures'. It was 2 days so I was even more strapped for time haha, maybe the extra day would have helped.

@googlypoo Haha, I'm really bad with music so I'm glad to hear that! And sorry! It's really unbalanced and hard to win, hopefully that can be improved eventually. Thank you!

@ha-kuro Screen shake would be nice, I wanted to do a little bit of knockback but I couldn't get it to work so I scrapped it. I also hoped I'd have time to add like, visual effects but... yeah that wasn't happening. Thank you!

@artofluba That would be fun! It'd be nice if I could make a full short story out of it someday~

@diego-escalante Maybe a toggleable diagram would be nice, yeah! That way you can have it if you want or remove it, I'll keep it in mind. And haha! When I made the death sprite the sword covered most of the body so I was like "It would be funny if it just flies off..." I'm glad you like it.

Thanks everyone for the feedback!

I liked the graphics a lot - and it was fun to see previously destroyed spheres in the background  It was difficult to understand what color beats what, so I figured maybe the red globe with fire could be hit by water - was this the intent? I played on keyboard so it was difficult to switch between the elements - or maybe the sphere changed color too fast  Getting extra life also was a nice add. Altogether it's a nice little game, so congrats for making it!

matoux42 2022-10-04 07:52

Really funny ! I wasn't patient enough to play till I won, but I have no Xbox controller, and I think with keyboard it was kind of hard to play. Still a good game, anyway

shuimen 2022-10-04 08:20

I like the graphics and music. I was a little confused of how to effectively attack the enemy at first. But it's still a good game!

tao-yuanyue 2022-10-04 14:40

It is a little bit hard when I first play it, but when I figure out, I found it is really a great game that can let me spend a long time to play. Love the game design and music.

eugenik 2022-10-04 16:22

I liked the game - really nice humor. good job

pychewing 2022-10-04 21:00

It's neat! The button mapping screwed me up the most I think, and thinking "up" as jump doesn't really occur to me as I always expect a different button to be jump, but probably different on a controller.

I agree that 5 elements to switch between is a lot, but was it suppose to be cyclic in advantage/disadvantage? Like water beats fire, but in the line it's written it seems like water beats all? I feel like if you used 3 and used a rock/paper/scissors mechanic it would've been a bit easier. I forgot I had magic half the time haha

The looks is fun. I feel the orb could've been something. I kept forgetting the carrots/lifebar cause it wasn't easily in my line of sight to focus on. Good job overall!

payaosito 2022-10-04 23:20

@pychewing Yeah, mapping is very uncomfortable on keyboard, would rework that if I continue with the game. And it is cyclical, I could have clarified better haha.

And yeah! For sure, I wanted to make the enemy a fox at first. Sadly a more detailed enemy would require much more work to look decent, so I scrapped it for time.

Thanks for the feedback, it's really helpful!

ehon 2022-10-04 23:21

Hey, don't sey it's junky, it felt very polished, especially for a solo entry! I liked guessing game with the ball and remembering only some of the combinations and experimenting on the other ones. It had really cool gameplay loop! I just wish there was maybe more recognizable sfx or visual effect (for the whole screen) when you were losing health to signal more the moment the player needs to grab the carrot. The music was a nice touch as well. A great one, keep it up!!

payaosito 2022-10-05 04:21

@ehon Thank you! I definitely wanted to add more effects, both sound and visual, so hopefully that's something I can work with post-jam.

Thanks for the feedback~

digitaldude555 2022-10-05 14:48

I like the mood and sound in the game, graphics were decent but the main boss is just a colored ball, I'd say there are actually too many colors having just 3 primary colors would make it intuitive to understand what to do and make switching between colors less clunky. Good use of the theme though.

thedashdude 2022-10-06 05:52

As above, the color cycle was a little complicated. Something like rock paper scissors would have been nice, or a diagram while playing. Didn't manage to beat it, boss health was a little long. Nice work, though.

luka-roli 2022-10-06 13:27

Cool to play, but yeah, complicated to remember the damage combinations (even though it's cyclical). Played with a controller and the button scheme works well. Also, if you stand at the edges the ball can't hit you. Not that janky at all. Sounds and looks great.

cassowary 2022-10-07 06:19

I feel like it would benefit from having only 3 elements, as it was sometimes difficult to work out what the current element was, remember what beat it, remember the control to switch, switch to that, and attack all in 10 seconds before it changes again.

I like the graphics though, very cute, and it's a nice use of the theme. Plus Connie is a good name for a bunny character :-)

tanis 2022-10-07 15:36

I like the nice art. It would really help to have a reference of what works with what somewhere on the screen as I keep forgetting that

algebruh 2022-10-10 04:42

This is great! Quite an interesting combat system based on rock, scissors, paper. I was also pleased with the music, which, although rather monotonous, fits the style and does not bother. The only problem is that the character does not turn when moving to the left, which makes it impossible to attack from the right.

asfdfdfd 2022-10-10 21:08

I want this sword.

malai 2022-10-12 15:40

It's kinda hard to attack the enemy without getting hit aswell. Art is amazing though!

yword 2022-10-12 15:40

"Work is not over, but they'll be alright." Yeah, I just defeated the orb. Really cool and interesting idea, with cute character too. Maybe it will be more fun if the sword is larger. Well done!

harry-alissavakis 2022-10-13 13:55

Interesting idea and cool art direction! I think that with more polish this could be expanded into a nice little game, as the whole concept around element weakness could provide a nice layer of strategy during combat. Nice job!
