Woah you can surf on the seagulls! Art and animations are great!
I like your sprite art for the player character, turtles, and gulls. The animations are pleasant, the turtles look like friends and the gulls look like jerks. Also, I found that you can sort of ride on the gulls when they're trying to fly away. Not a bug because I'm not actually able to go into the sky, but it was fun!

After one hour, I didn't find a way to disable the collider for only one gull... But I found this "bug" funny then I decided to keep.
Love the sprites! Great work! :)
Great concept. Good stuff for a quick jam.
Good mechanics - it's worth doing more
The art work is really nice! Only thing I would add is some sound effects and maybe some sort of incentive to save them :) Great Game
nice stuff
Great concept- I think you've invented a new kind of football here, I can picture myself diving and sliding to play defense on the turtle team.
I know this is a weird criticism but turtles could maybe move a bit faster? I had a bunch of fun clearing stuff, very very simple mechanics but something about their implementation is really appealling
Really nice work. ✌️
> I know this is a weird criticism but turtles could maybe move a bit faster? I had a bunch of fun clearing stuff, very very simple mechanics but something about their implementation is really appealling
I find their speed enough because you can push them :)
Overall very cute game. I was super sad when I accidentally fed one of my turtles to the bird! the shell never cleared meaning I was constantly reminded of my mistake each round! lol. Great job!
> Only thing I would add is some sound effects and maybe some sort of incentive to save them :) Great Game
I'm living in France, with covid19, I couldn't go out (to the beach) to get some audio sound of gulls or wave :sob: And I though I saved some wave sound on my phone, but I could not refound them
Nice concept. I love your pixel art. I just found it to be a bit hard to control but that's probably just me. Nice idea, nice execution, good job overall.
Really similar to my game lol, loved the graphics and nice to see someone else cares about the turtles too!
Neat game and good concept, fits the theme well and good art style.
Fun game but would've enjoyed it more if there was some sort of difficulty curve. It got very repetitive pretty quick, and I found trying to surf on as many birds as possible was way more fun than keeping the turtles alive. I like the graphics though.Capture.PNG
Simple and fun game, I could see this being a really popular arcade game back in the 90s with the right palette. Really good!
Thanks for you comments everyone!
> nice to see someone else cares about the turtles too!
@KieranCoppins If you want more turtle, you have also to test: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/jeffrey-the-turtle

Me too, I was out of time because bad time management, I was not ready to use phaser33 in fastest way
Good Job! I have a similar approach to the theme! I like the idea of protecting animals
Well done! Love the sprite work and the idea of saving the baby turtles. One note is that I noticed if you hold a horizontal direction and then tap a vertical direction, that vertical direction gets held down. Other than that one bug I loved it!
I like the graphics. The pixel art work is very impressive given the time limit. The gameplay could use a few simple additions.

Saturday (during my drawing), I found a hack to earn 1-2 hours on drawing gulls wings for the flying animation frames. I think, I spent one hours to draw the first frame of the flying gull animation, I thought I will spend 2 more hours but... When I playing with the tools of my editors... I found a shorcut on the drawing of my flying animation frames ! I was so happy! :grimacing: (Let get a look bellow )
This ways was so cheated :sob: !
wings animation with transform tool
The final render (that you know, 10 frames = wings transformed by 5px each time): final wings animation
Nice game, I like how the turtles that got munched stay on the beach. Overall, a very smooth and fun game, just wish there was a bit more difficulty :)
That was cute. I liked the idea of saving the turtles and shoving them into the sea.
I like the idea. I think it needs more challenge, though. If I just kick all the seagulls first, then I can easy save the turtles. It would be nice if the seagulls come back after a while. Or some other enemies.
Graphics are great :)
Good job!
Hi, cute turtle and seagul !
Some suggestions : - speed up the walking animation to stop the gliding - add more seaguls, maybe they could come back at another position once they are cleared the first time ? - count turtle saved as soon as they hit the water
Hey, that's kinda ok game but has some downsides. I don't see any point to reach, also turtles are slow but we can push them all to the end. There is no challange after scary seaguls.
Nice and coherent style, Its mind boggling what some developers can come up with given a theme, congrats. Solid entry.
> There is no challange after scary seaguls.
I'm so sad about that ! I take too many time to learn how to use phaser without bug and with a good moving/sliding/colliding effect. :sob:
I was good in my timing when I finish drawing but I wasted too many time in programming (Also, I'm better in programming than drawing!). My game skips third things: - difficulty (number of turtles/gulls, increase speeds; gulls come backs (--> this doesn't work fine and need more work) ; gulls flying before attacking (idk if I had the time about that) ) ; - character action (yell control/animation to scare all the gulls, *the bonus if I had time: Add item / tool to scare or bait them* like: parasol/umbrella, sandwitch) ; - better stage/scene management/switching (I coded the actually system 20min before the ends...).
I prioritise maneuverability&collision ecosystem rather than difficulty&level system implementation. I was so bad in my programming ! :sob:
I will training to use Phaser without waste my time for my next Ludum Dare (I did a list of thing to improve with my Phaser usage, also I asked experimented users of Phaser, how can I improve my programming way with Phaser).

I try to get an personnal/invidual touch when I choosed my style, I got a night sleeping before start my coding&drawing.
Excellent work, knowing that you started on a completely new engine for you! The shortcut you took for drawing the wings was very smart  Well done!
I like the fact that you took a very simple idea and made a good game. Maybe putting simple sounds will make the game more fun.
> I like the fact that you took a very simple idea and made a good game. Maybe putting simple sounds will make the game more fun.
For compo I can't only add my own sound *and I’m living in France and with covid19, I couldn’t go out (to the beach) to get some audio sound of gulls or wave. And I though I saved some wave sound on my phone, but I could not refound them* :(
Also, I tried 1 hour to make a background with software like : https://beepbox.co/ or with online piano recorder, it was not soo good and not corresponding to sea environment. What soft should I use to make some ambiant music without a big music knowledge ?
A small and simple game. Why not, it is fun and I am a bit sorry for each turtle which was eaten by the seagul. Maybe add a swim animation when the turtle reach the water? And if Phaser3 support sounds, maybe a few free sounds (freesound.org). Sounds are great for feedback or getting the players attention.
Edit: Ups this is a compo game, this makes it way harder. But maybe recording the sound of a water splash, a pecking sound (just tapp a few times on the table) and faking a sea gull sound your self could have helped?
Graphics were good, overall it was nice except as you know needs bit more things in it otherwise its just repetitive, but overall if it did have that then it would be fun, but the movement felt nice too! Good job!
The core gameplay is original. Nice work.
nice game you made. the anamations were good and the idea was simple but enjoyable
ALso referencung our turtle game cause idk how to repsond to other comments ik its buggy there are a lot of bugs but we ran out of time you have to hold e for 1.5 sec we probaly wont release this was our first game just for fun i doubht it has potential and i wanna do 3d stuff anyways. This was our first time ever making a game and my first time ever using unity or c sharp. For team chordination we just all sat in a discord call divided up tasks based on stregenths and published and downlaod. We made sure to do tasks at the same time that didnt co inflict with others like editing the same scrips. also thx for the control sheet
Oh you answer to this: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/intergalactic-space-turtles thanks you! I got a fix click on author pseudo and come back like this picture [like this](https://static.jam.vg/raw/3a3/c2/z/31ef1.gif)
Simple and nice game, good job!
I think you've got a good toy here! With a bit more time, I'm sure you could have polished it up a bit and turned it into a cool little puzzle.
I came here after your comment on my game, it's awesome we ended up making such similar games. Really love your animations and the fact that you could push the turtles towards the sea to make them move faster. I really enjoyed this one :v:
I see you found more turtle games. :v:
Not bad, I tried animating wings for LD 35 - I ended up redoing them from reference, it's worth the extra effort in the end. bird_fly.jpg
@johnnysix I saw another game with amazing flying animation: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/blackbird-lives-matter/concept-sketching-is-an-art-2#/comment-496518 (The animation is so great!)

Animation and collision were the two things that I wanted great in my game, ~~I waste to learn phaser 2~~, I didn't have the time to add more mecanic/feature. I pass more time on animation and I can't finish the mecanic of my game.
> it’s awesome we ended up making such similar games.
I also had the idea of a Cree animation like your game and the shadow of the gull ~~but not time~~ haha). I was surprised when I saw your game^^ but when I saw other games I see *I forgot the arcade side of my game* two things I never thought to but should be easily add in my code and add difficulty:
- wastes on the beach (It's a good idea) - crabs (like this one https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/jeffrey-the-turtle )
I saw now that wastes & crabs is a way to add more difficulty and a faster implementation than gulls come back (I got a problem to disable collision, I didn't success and waste so many time  )
@primalshadow My game
It was kind of a fun game, I think not having music on it takes out from it a lot. Some sounds effects would be great! Also think maybe adding more challenges and variations :)
I like the simple gameplay, the graphics are also good, but the sfx or the music would give it a different feeling.
I'm currently looking to software for make SFX & little background music, it's very hard to propose sound for compo. I tried something (with piano but that not corresponding to the sea/beach theme), I just waste 2 hours :')
Cute game! The turtle sprite is really good. The game could use a better difficulty curve. At this stage it works nice for 1 or two levels as a tutorial, as it is easy to pick up. What needs to happen is some kind of challenge. Perhaps make it harder to chase away the birds by making some comeback. Or that the turtles start moving in the opposite direction if you dont keep up. This must of course be balanced, perhaps by making the player faster or something.
