LD46 — Keep it alive

You Have One Job by LeReveur 2020-04-21T15:06:01Z

Not sure if the subject of the experiment was the blob or me, the player! lol. Would have liked some more positive reinforcement (like any good test subject) to make the game more fun because there isn't much to do otherwise. The sequence of lights didn't seem to matter. Remember Simon Says? What if you had to press the lights in the right sequence too in order to be not penalized. Would have made the player work a bit to remember the right order.

Keep It Alive by danman9914 2020-05-09T14:19:25Z

What a great game! Had my palms all sweaty by the end of it. I thought the difficulty was pitched just right and all the elements of the game came together so beautifully. Well done. Some day I hope to make a game like this for a jam. Some day. Until then, we will endure. :)

Lunch or die! by Juhani Koskinen 2020-05-09T14:06:13Z

Made it till Friday! Had fun playing it and quite polished it was too. Would have preferred the camera to move smoothly with the player instead of panning now and then but I got used to it after a while. Nice jam entry!

Brawnfire by bitdecay 2020-04-26T07:35:22Z

Neat game idea for the theme! I loved the time pressure of keeping the fire going. The art is very cute and overall the game is quite polished. I played the web build, and there was no audio on it that I could hear. So I've not rated the game for the audio. Possibly either an issue with the game sounds or something up on the browser at my end (in which case I apologise for the non-rating for audio).

The only finicky part for me was that picking up the logs required me to be in some precise position. Too many times I was frustrated by the log being not picked up even when I was right next to it and button mashing to pick it up. Some leeway there would be nice to alleviate the difficulty. A couple of times I threw the log and it got hidden behind a tree! Can I suggest making the tree semi-transparent when the player goes behind one?

Overall, I quite enjoyed the game even if I never managed to beat the game.

ORB by blaster391 2020-05-09T15:07:38Z

Nice idea and graphics! The mechanics are nice but I found myself having to do too many things at the same time. Moving was a bit awkward too because it wasn't always easy to stop. The tower defense aspect was neat. Took me a while to figure out what each did though. Great job overall!

Raising the bar by SpaceMonkey 2020-04-26T07:53:47Z

The idea of alocohol to make hand sanitizer is just so cool and topical. However, I'm not sure if the theme of Keep Alive was really addressed. I didn't feel I was doing anything particularly to that effect. However, apart from that, the game was really cool and relaxing to play. The leaderboard is quite cool! However, is it possible to score highly once you've figured out a combination and just keep making them repeatedly? Not sure, since I didn't get to the 3 combo stage. Loved the juke box too. Very cool.

There are enough elements here to make a Diner Dash kind of frantic game I think (the world depends on you making hand sanitizer fast enough? lol). But not sure if I prefer that or the relaxed state of being a humble bartender making coc...er sanitizers.

JamIt by jrf 2020-04-21T14:47:36Z

I liked the idea of trying to have a responsible but fun party. Haha! We've all tried that with different rates of success I suppose. I had fun for the first 5 minutes but then the party ended abruptly at 1.53AM with 11/15 guests but no food or drinks (not sure if there is a limit I had to follow?). I'm not sure why the party ended either. The mood was good. Nice job!

Milk Dungeon by Kyle Bowman 2020-04-21T15:34:10Z

I liked the original concept of keeping a baby fed. It took me a while to figure out how to work the items and keys but once I did it was frantic good fun. I'm not sure why but the milk meter went to zero even though all the milk was pumping and there was no leak. But yeah, nice job!

Primed by gimblll 2020-05-09T13:43:20Z

* "So funny I died laughing" - the Dobo * "Hard to put down" - the Tree * "I had my shades on and everything was just so cool." - the Man * "Absolutely the best game ever made" - wise leader of a country

Seriously, make a full game out of this. It was pretty good fun while it lasted. :)

> keep typing! by Yolziii 2020-04-26T08:10:53Z

First of all, very cool concept. Reminds me of games like Simulacra and Emily is Away. Loved the terminal and ascii art. Story wise I thought it was quite weak - it was not clear to me what the objective was (I don't want to spoil the ending by mentioning it here, but if that was the intention it came as a surprise). I liked the idea of searching the files for clues, but it was too easy in the end. I think there is tremendous scope to explore this further and flesh out details of the background and story. Great job otherwise! Technically, I'm quite impressed.

Doomsday Live by AlexTagun 2020-04-21T14:58:14Z

Loved the graphics (especially the animation!), humour and sound. I had some trouble keeping up with the instructions because they went away too quickly. Oh, and the right button didn't always power off the camera no matter how many times I clicked it. The camera eventually ran out of power and I couldn't see the other oddities in the game (I did reach the volcano though). Can't believe you did all this in 72 hours! Great job!

Soul Light by ShuzenAndy 2020-05-09T15:01:11Z

For a first game, nice job! As others have pointed out, the controls are iffy though. I eventually worked out how to jump but the attack was far too slow and useless to actually do anything. How is Jane supposed to defeat Death if she can't defeat the first wimpy devil she comes across? ;) The vision becoming smaller as you took damage was neat but it's impossible to play like this. Perhaps have the health regenerate over time? So if you're low on health while fighting, you retreat and then come back to fight. Anyway, keep at it guys!

No Way Back by alexbljack 2020-05-09T13:20:37Z

Really liked the idea of using commands as a gameplay mechanic. However, as others have pointed out, it's quite difficult to actually play using this control scheme currently. Perhaps a RTS or less reflex-y requiring game might have benefited from this. Having said that I think you're onto something here and should totally develop this further. Looking forward to see what you come up with!

BTW, perhaps you're already aware of this: but a couple of times when I restarted the game by pressing R, the tiles all became black and I couldn't place commands or move around. Another time the tiles were fine but couldn't change the commands.

Something Fishy by sztrovacsek 2020-04-26T07:22:41Z

After a slow start, it sure got intense. Nevertheless, beat the game on first try without losing any fish! Yay! Have to say it was good fun, but as noted, the game starts of real slow. Perhaps start off with a couple of fishes already so that there is more to do at the beginning? Otherwise, I thought it was pretty cool and fit the theme of the jam, so kudos for getting it all done without much fuss. I should note that I faced an interesting bug at the end of the game where pressing the Quit button did nothing. On the web build, quit doesn't make much sense anyway I suppose. But pressing the Play button just caused a big grey screen to appear and nothing worked.

Reviewed the Web build.

The White, The Dead and The Bullets by deadlyfishes 2020-04-21T15:22:48Z

That was bit of a frantic good fun! Nice graphics and music too. Forcing players to climb the tower to progress is a good idea, but I feel that it gets a bit frustrating to fall down repeatedly while also trying to aim and shoot. In other words, there is too much to do! More safe platforms would have perhaps helped, or a powerup that automatically gives you a jump boost. Either ways, neat game!

Keep IT Alive by Gronk 2020-05-09T13:57:10Z

Nice idea backed up with cool graphics and sound effects. I found the game quite polished with a nice intro and controls. The slow attack is a cool mechanic but it does slow down the game too much I feel, because you spend a lot of time trying to time the attack or running around in the room. Not that much after the first few times. Otherwise I think this is a great entry to the jam!

The Lightwielder - Ludum Dare 46 by 1StepCloser 2020-05-04T14:27:27Z

Very cool graphics, intro and sound. But seriously, what am I supposed to be doing? I've played it twice now and I seem to be locked into a small space of woodland with nothing obvious to do. Perhaps some more information and a more obvious goal will go a long way in making it playable.

At the moment it's a terrific demo. Please continue working on it and make it special! :)

Bon Bon and Eggward by moonblaststudios 2020-05-09T13:33:15Z

To be completely honest I would have liked to play this game more and see any other interesting things you've might have had in there but I couldn't get past the double spike setup even after half a dozen attempts and so gave up. :( So the things I liked: the graphics and the egg carrying mechanic, which forces you to strategize your play. For a first game jam attempt this is pretty good! This was my first game jam too and you've seen my attempt. ;) So well done for getting so many things right.

Mothership by Wet_Band-Aid 2020-04-26T08:22:56Z

That was fun till it just got so fast that it was impossible to keep up! In between, I went into a zen mode where I was nailing everything and then one mistake caused just everything to go haywire very very quickly. lol. And I never even got to the point of switching off the shields because it was crazy as it is.

Apart from the difficulty spiking up crazily towards the end, I thought it was quite a cool idea. Perhaps it would have helped if the difficulty spiked up and down in waves, so that you didn't feel truly overwhelmed for too long and had a breather in between.

Nice intro and nice game!

Penance: A story of Resistance by JoAMD 2020-04-26T07:08:58Z

This review is based on the jam version, so I'm not going to comment on the movement and other floaty control issues that you seem to have fixed already in the post jam version.

Firstly, I like pixel art so a platform shooty based on pixel art is right up my alley! I liked the run and gun aspect but because the character/gun itself doesn't seem to point towards the mouse position when shooting gives it an odd feel IMO. Other than that the text dialogs run way too fast for me to be able to read them (Who is Elliot?). Right now, I also feel there isn't much to do except run and jump around. I didn't bother with the first few enemies at all, so maybe you need to create situations where you're forced to fight them in terms of level design.

All in all, I realise the problems with trying to do so many thing in 3 days, so I hope you continue to work on it and look forward to more features and cool things being added to the game. Good luck!

LD47 — Stuck in a loop

Satelloop by diptoman 2020-10-06T09:09:44Z

Very polished game with great graphics and sound. The game play was super smooth and satisfying. The random nature of the asteroids meant that I lost droids more quickly than they were replenished though. I had to blow up 4 asteroids in a row because they were going to hit the satelloop. Nice idea and execution though!

Gene Cycle by joh 2020-10-07T07:02:07Z

Neat idea! Took me a while to figure out that the order of pecking mattered! lol Swapping the nucleotides to match the order was a bit more iffy though but that's probably down to me rather than anything wrong with the mechanism. I think there is potential for a fun mobile game here if you can polish it up a bit and tweak the feedback loop to have some more puzzle elements. Good luck!

GunTron by neowhoru 2020-10-26T06:15:01Z

Fun run and gun game!

Xenolasso by Carraka 2020-10-08T06:00:11Z

Interesting idea! I didn't like the controls though - using space and movement keys together was iffy to draw the lasso - often I would draw the lasso incorrectly. The collision with the sheep (?) also caused me to sometimes push them out of the lasso. Loved the graphics, music and cute sound effects.

Home Sweet Home by mediyaz 2020-10-26T06:11:28Z

I couldn't get the game to work unfortunately. I tried both the windows and web build. On windows it gives me a a lot of GR_D3D related errors (CreateTexture, CreateDevice) right after pressing the Space key to play.

Delicious Quest by Saering 2020-10-06T09:33:43Z

Great idea and execution! Had lot of fun (re)playing it. The lack of sound was a bit distracting though because everything else seemed so polished. Nice work!

RobAuto by Hidjy 2020-10-09T05:15:33Z

Excellent execution and original take on the theme! I found the puzzles to be quite clever and fun to solve. Please note that it's possible to block yourself in with no way to reset the level in the room with skulls (cube is yellow with RDL combination). Taking the cube to the bottom left and placing yourself on the inner part of the 'triangle', you're effectively blocked in. The cube blocks exit from the bottom left and there is no exit (that I can see) from the other part of the room. But great job nevertheless!

Rock 'N Load by KeyurRana 2020-10-06T08:14:17Z

Loved the rhythm based gun-play and the graphics! Rock hard to get even the second treasure though, because it's so hard to hit the fast moving enemies. Difficulty balancing might make this game even more enjoyable. Nice job!

Choo Choo Loop by thunderkerrigan 2020-10-08T05:52:44Z

As you said, your game and mine are similar in that they both involve trains and editing tracks. XD This is the second game I've seen which involves similar mechanics (path manipulation). The game is hard as nails though right out of the gate - managing two trains is quite stressful! The random nature of track also meant that I once ended up with a map with two terminals so close that their tracks touched. No win situation! Other than that everything else was quite smooth and the game became fun once you got the hang of quickly switching between tracks and looping them. Nice job!

PRISON STATION O by xSooDx 2020-10-08T10:45:08Z

Excellent take on the theme! Loved the visuals - inspired by Among Us if I'm not mistaken! It took me a while to figure out how to get around the station though - F to open doors! Surely a spaceship this advanced should have the door opening automatically! ;) Apart from that minor annoyance, the game was quite fun to play. Nice work!

Loop City by Fupi 2020-10-07T06:47:33Z

Nice to see a game made in Godot in the jam! Great use of the theme idea to make this a fun game. I liked how you can pick which quests you want to do, although I couldn't figure out how to give the lab the wheat seeds (I had them in the inventory but the lab was not clickable). Since you specifically asked for audio feedback, let me just say that the music was quite cool and the audio fx were satisfactory (as in not bad at all!). Nice job overall!

Dungeon Loop by radgegames 2020-10-06T09:23:19Z

Good work on doing everything by yourself! I disliked the WASD for shooting though. The mouse or just just one key to shoot in the direction you're facing would have been enough. A couple of quality of life additions like damage indicators and a health bar on the characters would have helped. I wasn't sure if I was doing any damage to the enemies and had no idea how much damage I was taking to be able to strategies my actions (flee or flight) effectively. In the end I made it to the end of the first loop but died soon after. Nice wok overall. Good luck!

Looping by guimoliveira 2020-10-26T06:21:43Z

Fun game with really neat looping mechanic. Liked the clever puzzles!

Eloi's Adventure by Convg 2020-10-06T08:54:38Z

Nice mechanic with the shadow. Using it to blow up enemies and press buttons is quite cool. Getting it to hit the buttons with the boxes requires way too much effort and luck though (because, physics)! Definitely worth exploring the idea more - you might have something here. Found the graphics and audio decent enough. The platforming controls were responsive so it feels good to play. Nice job!

Coalescence: Battle System Prototype by Seth Tal 2020-10-07T06:34:11Z

A pity you had to opt out of the graphics category because I loved the cute pixel art! The battle system idea is interesting although as you said it doesn't tie in with the theme. I did have an issue with the system because it didn't feel intuitive when the battle started. Firstly, the two teams rushed to each other and I had bit of an issue figuring out which one's were my friends. Obviously they were the partners on the left but even so I think some way of distinguishing between the two would be better. Have you experimented with a turn based mechanic? I get a feeling that might actually work better here but only experimentation will bear that out. Looking forward to what you do with this! Good luck!

Loopy Loco by ReallyQbert 2020-10-05T20:44:58Z

@jonah thanks for pointing that out. Looks like the CPUParticles2D used by Godot doesn't work on the browser reliably. I've disabled the particle effects when the loco crashes, which now allows the game to continue as usual.

Loopy Loco by ReallyQbert 2020-10-07T06:51:24Z

@fupi pretty sure, because the game worked as soon as I disabled it. The exact point of crash happens when I call' emitting = true' on it in the code. Maybe it's some specific property in the particle effects system that's not working on the browser? I'm not sure, I'll test it some more and see if I can pin-point it.

Loopy Loco by ReallyQbert 2020-10-08T06:04:35Z

@carraka Thanks. Yeah, I was wondering how long before someone figured out that trick. lol Your idea of forcing the player to stick to some segments is a neat one. Might try that once the jam is over. I actually wanted to limit the track options as well like only N changes per level or X subset of tracks per level. Maybe even random events that changed track conditions. Thanks for pointing out the audio issue - I added the audio at the last minute and never fully checked it!

Frozen Potency by Eugenik 2020-10-26T06:06:41Z

Very cool looking game and excellent audio. The thrill of seeing watching your score move up the ranks is highly motivating!

office-hours by jonah 2020-10-06T08:23:16Z

Hehe. I had no idea what to do the first time around. Then I called the guards on a customer. Then people started getting murdered. Then I was walking around with a knife. Found the broom. Now I'm walking around with a knife AND a broom? WTF. lol Fun game! Nice job!

BagJam by Ryan Paton 2020-10-26T06:40:44Z

Creative use of the theme! Really fun to play and once the number of bags and things to do becomes more, it gets really frantic!

One thing that wasn't obvious to me was when a bag failed the x-ray machine it was so little to time to register because you're doing other things too. Maybe keep the X mark on the bag for a little time more?

EZ Dungeon by risingsunz 2020-10-06T08:30:22Z

Aha! This game idea is so similar to mine! lol Guess great minds think alike etc. As for the game, I liked the music and the graphics. However, I could only collect one coin before I died. Is there some trick to not perish immediately after getting the coin? Good job though!

Curse of the Time Stone by SpaceDinosaur12 2020-10-07T06:14:18Z

Great use of the portal mechanism to solve the puzzles. The link to the theme is tenuous though, but that's okay since many games seem to be using it as a guideline than a rule. Nice graphics and lovely music. Great job!

Orbital Loop by Pradhuman 2020-10-08T10:52:15Z

Interesting adaptation of the Flappy Bird mechanic for the jam. Nice!

Get Over Yourself by SpawnCampGames 2020-10-06T08:02:49Z

Great looking game! But way too hard right from the get go. This is like the Dark Souls of this jam. lol. Nice job!

Smells Like Chlorine by TheGreenWorm 2020-10-26T06:33:31Z

Excellent game with great graphics, audio and gameplay. All this in such a short time? Fantastic!

Mike.cpp by shan.hsgames 2020-10-06T08:43:06Z

Great game! I thought the puzzles were logical and easy and the ending.. haha. Infinite loop indeed! Loved the graphics, audio and overall aesthetics as well. This is your first game for LD? Wow. What an entry! Good job!

Plague Friend's Deathly Journey by sakura_magika 2020-10-26T06:51:37Z

Adorable game! I loved the quirky graphics and the adventure was itself totally hatstand with really funny dialogues. My only nitpick is the oversized inventory window that covers quite a bit of the screen area. Well done, nevertheless!

LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Blue Submarine by Patomkin 2021-04-27T14:43:06Z

What a crackingly original and good game! Loved the art, sound and animations. The turn based card mechanic is so simple but pleasing to use. You may have a winner on your hands!

Beebook - Beat the Feed by Beebo Studios 2021-04-30T15:01:19Z

Very original and interesting game. I liked the rhythm nature but I wasn't sure if I was pressing them right or not. lol

Rock Shark Diamonds by Amar Ravi 2021-04-30T14:50:50Z

Nice idea! I had a similar idea for the theme involving treasure diving (but without the rocks) but I ended up going a different route. :) I liked the pixel graphics and audio. Simple but effective! The oxygen pressure is nerve wracking and I couldn't complete level 2 even with using rocks. I see now that you have to use *both* the rocks, which makes sense I guess but I presumed I could 'carry' only one thing at a time for some reason. Anyway, nice game which matches the theme very well!

Deep Mine by The1 2021-04-30T13:59:52Z

Pretty cool graphics and audio, especially the music! I liked the element of strategy involved in collecting crystals, fuel and enemy busters (the blue pill?). However, since the objective of the game was how deep I could travel, I simply ignored the crystals and the enemies and just made a beeline to the exit. I collected fuel when required but otherwise did nothing. :) I think forcing the player to control all the crystals in the level before exiting would force them to engage more. Nice work nevertheless!

Last penny by Advarsky 2021-04-27T14:01:22Z

Neat graphics and lovely intro! I loved how the game ties in with the theme so nicely. Must say the ending was unexpected but so heartwarming in these desperate times! *heart*

Intiqaam - The Revenge by TheAwesomeShaz 2021-04-27T14:09:51Z

Very different take on the theme! Nice controls and implementation of the stealth mechanic. There is potential to make a full fledged game here. Keep going!

Adventure to the Deep by Flamingo 2021-04-30T14:22:31Z

Interesting concept but I couldn't figure out the key puzzle. The collision detection also works against the player so that doesn't help. Some more hints for each puzzle would help!

One More Lap! by Harrison Dunn 2021-04-27T14:35:24Z

I'm not sure it really fits the theme but who cares, it was fun! The only reason I kept driving around the laps was the witty comments at the end of the lap XD. Nice work for your first game jam! You'll score more points if you *somehow* manage to weave in the theme with the game even if it's metaphysical mumbo jumbo. I notice that you mention "Deeper into madness" in an earlier comment, which would have been just fine. Maybe hallucinogenic rabbits on pogo sticks make an appearance and it gets more bizarre with every lap? Anyway, I look forward to your next game jam game!

Dwarven Depths by steelax 2021-04-30T14:14:32Z

Wow! This is fantastic for a first ever soloe jam game. I know how hard that can be even with pre-made assets, so kudos to you for putting together a fairly cohesive and fully functioning game with plenty to do. I loved that you added narration and a background story that eggs on the player to delve deeper. If there is any criticism it's that some of the mechanics seem inconsistent. I expected E to activate for everything but it seems colliding with some things did the activation in some cases, like the chest. I stood in front of it and pressed E expecting it to open the chest but of course it didn't work. I worked out how *that* activation worked by accidentally jumping on it. lol Very cool level design too. Keep working on the game!

MinerClicker by eps 2021-04-30T14:30:47Z

Really fun puzzler! I like how you managed to tie it into the theme. :) Good job by you and your daughter. Congrats!

Deep in the Pipe by Harshvardhan014 2021-04-27T14:17:22Z

This is a cool idea for the theme and looks like it could be a lot of fun. Unfortunately, it's way too unforgiving right from the start. A slightly easier start off point would not only allow users to warm up to the game but also familiarize them with the controls and sensitivity required. Initially, I thought I was pressing the wrong keys! After a few attempts, I managed to get past some obstacles but frustratingly I died because I held the key down for a millisecond longer than required. There is a great potential for a very playable game here, especially on the mobile, so with a few tweaks you might have a winner on your hands. Good luck!

Octopus Dive by JedeMac 2021-04-27T13:59:47Z

Such a cool and original game. We definitely need more games where you play an octopus! XD Loved the animations and mechanics of the game. I couldn't figure out how to avoid the eel or use the ink (maybe I missed the instructions). Nice work!

Potato Pandemonium by SugarSugarSugar 2021-04-30T13:51:48Z

This is quite good for a first game jam title. A tight platformer requiring precise jumps and reflexes. I do feel, however, that it's let down by the choice of control system. A bit more forgiving and less key stroke based system would go a long way. And I love potatoes! :)
