the itch.io page appears to not work for me, sadly

fupi 2020-10-05 11:30

@dominium11 Oops, now it does.

jonah 2020-10-05 13:22

really nice concept and very interesting characters in this game! I really liked Gertrude and Zelda's quests.

good job. fun game!

pashaloban 2020-10-05 13:26

cool loop

dreamscale 2020-10-05 13:41

This was really cute and a fun idea!

simone 2020-10-05 13:50

Nice game, kind of relaxing the fact that you can just loop though again and again and it will be fine :)

Maybe the inventory could have been implemented better, now it is easy to press the wrong button and throw away a lot of time xD

fupi 2020-10-05 14:53

@simone Definitely! Being aware of where you click with your items was intentional, but right now you do lose a lot of time if you screw up. If I ever update this game I'll add a second slot, kind of like the Hold slot in Tetris, where your item will be safe.

dominium11 2020-10-05 18:53

I'm completely blown by this game. This is so awesome, it's just like, I HAD to beat the whole thing, it really hooks you, the audio is great and the musics is lovely, i could see this idea being used in some bigger projects, consider expanding on it! I also think that the one slot inventory is cool but becomes a burden with later loops, the humour with "Tell Gertruda to shove it" is great, pretty much just what i would want from ldjam

fupi 2020-10-05 19:20

@dominium11 Thanks a lot! I will probably not continue this game though, just add a new inventory slot after the jam is over. Thanks for commenting on the music!

jordan-kelly 2020-10-05 22:45

Such a clever idea, I love all the characters.

kaganobik 2020-10-06 01:26

Now this is something different. I loved everthing of it! Good work! This was fun :)

nerdytopic 2020-10-06 02:54

This is a really cute and innovative idea. The fact that there's so much to do in such a small space is really crazy to me. Good job creating so much content in such a little time! One thing that frustrated me is I think I accidently threw away my first wheat seeds that I bought because I didn't understand picking up a different item would get rid of them? Or... I just didn't find the inventory or something. Anyway, good work!

zwodahs 2020-10-06 06:06

I saw your idea at the start of the jam and I told myself I must play this game when it is done.

Glad you finished it and it is really innovative and a good interpretation of the theme. I really like the design of the quests and the character. Even though it is very obvious what you need to do, the game still surprised me with what is possible.

Good work and thanks for the game !

fupi 2020-10-06 10:17

@nerdytopic No, you got that right. You only have one inventory slot. Thanks for the feedback!

gord10ahmet 2020-10-06 12:36

Very innovative. It fits to the theme perfectly.

rohan-akki 2020-10-06 18:09

really solid game with simple but developed mechanics. im not exactly sure how you tracked progression so well to build the portal but im glad i beat it :)

dk5000p 2020-10-06 18:25

I enjoyed the characters. Was sort of tough to know what you were supposed to do. I know you wrote out a lot of stuff on the game page but would have been nice if it was clear in the game. Fun cheery music.

fupi 2020-10-06 19:00

@rohan-akki Thanks! The progression is just a number that every quest object can add to. There are 10 quests in total and 10 pieces for the portal, so I just change the portal sprite according to the progression number.

fupi 2020-10-06 19:04

@dk5000p Thanks for the feedback, I thought I made everything pretty clear though. The game page says all the same stuff as the in-game menu, the tips and tricks section are just strategic suggestions that you can come up with yourself while playing too, or completely ignore. The quests can be done in any order. Is there anything specific you feel could have been explained better?

pizzasgood 2020-10-07 02:59

I enjoyed this one! And I think the single inventory slot works well; juggling everything is part of the fun. Rather than adding another slot, I think what I would do is make it so that you can't pick things up while your inventory is already full, then add a trash can or recycling bin somewhere that can be used to dispose of unneeded items (that way you don't have to expand the controls with an accident-prone "drop item" button).

reallyqbert 2020-10-07 06:47

Nice to see a game made in Godot in the jam! Great use of the theme idea to make this a fun game. I liked how you can pick which quests you want to do, although I couldn't figure out how to give the lab the wheat seeds (I had them in the inventory but the lab was not clickable). Since you specifically asked for audio feedback, let me just say that the music was quite cool and the audio fx were satisfactory (as in not bad at all!). Nice job overall!

amin-jk000 2020-10-07 07:11

good job I liked the game :v:

fupi 2020-10-07 10:03

@pizzasgood That's a good idea too, but I worry that adding a physical trash can in the level would mean the player has to loop all around again if they just as much as click on the wrong spot.

fupi 2020-10-07 10:04

@reallyqbert Pay attention, the lab asked you for *wheat*, not wheat *seeds*! You have to plant the seeds at the farm and then give the fully grown wheat to the lab.

ar-borno 2020-10-07 13:48

Really cool concept and the loop was fun. Played about 5 minute and i already loved it. Great work 👍👍

steventus 2020-10-07 13:48

Hey @fupi , This game is pretty good actually. I played it for a short time and I can see good potential in the game. Plenty of things that I liked, let's go through the positives:]

1) You have a very distinct art direction here and it works alongside your happy-go-lucky music! It may look very simply but I think it's pretty good for what it does, a pretty funny game.

2) A pretty good innovation of the theme if I do say so myself. Basically falling into the bottomless pit and people live down there for some reason.

If I have any qualms, it would be:

1) A better tutorial would really smoothen your experience better. A wall of text is not always the best way to introduce the entire game on.

But otherwise, I quite like the game!

los 2020-10-07 13:50

A nice game, well made and despite the fact that you have so many things to do, I found it somewhat relaxing :) Thanks for the game!

fupi 2020-10-07 13:56

@steventus I really wanted to add a playable tutorial, but I didn't have the time! I burned myself out on the last day just to get it out. xp The wall of text in the menu is something I really hate as well. Thanks for the detailed feedback!

tqv5964 2020-10-07 13:59

After 5 minutes of falling, I began to learn how to plant a seed and that when the fun begin. The game is fine. Really love the music, listening while playing feel very comfortable. The art need more animations for the main character, like animation when you glide or finish a quest. It will more lively. I also think that player can't pick up new item if he already has one in the inventory. I throw away a lot of seeds because of not knowing that. Anyway, good job with the entry

fupi 2020-10-07 14:02

@tqv5964 Thanks for playing! The inventory is definitely what needs to be reworked the most.

jakobthequizguy 2020-10-07 14:14

Okay, so these were basically my thoughts when playing, chronologically: - Oh wow I'm falling fast - There's a lot of stuff here - It's hard to interact with people and I'm not sure how the quest system works - My confusion combined with the fast nature of the game makes me slightly frustrated - Oh okay I can upgrade my steering with apples - Now I get the quest system, and the shop - I have now adjusted to the speed and interacting with people - Hah, I love how you combine different ingredients to make - At this point I understand the game and my frustration is replaced with fun

And that's basically where I started to pick up on the huge charm this game has. First of all, I love the concept. The sprite work combined with the music makes it feel really jumpy and cheery, each piece fits together and creates a cohesive mood.

I like that there's always something to pick up when falling, makes each section much less tedious, you always have something to do. When I got the dive and slow down upgrades the game also felt less hard to control, missing things didn't happen as frequently, and if I did miss something I could just dive through the whole loop. The characters are fun, I like the old ladies

I admire how you didn't just add different NPCs, but added a farm, a mixer, water that you could actually fill a glass with, a variety of mechanics! The loop freeze request was so weird it was humorous, which I think was intentional based on the dialogue. The puzzle elements were simple but felt rewarding when you figured something out - for example coloring yourself green and mixing an apple with a glass of water. The apples and glass of water are used in other quests as well; the fact that the same objects have more than one interaction makes the world feel more alive.

The dive and slow down mechanics might have been better to start off with since they did help navigating and made these unique controls easier to deal with, but then the reward of unlocking them would be gone, so I'm not sure if the tradeoff is worth it, just a thought.

All in all, I'm giving this game high scores all around, it's clear that you put a lot of effort into it, and I had a fun time! Definitely hit me up if you keep working on it!

angelee 2020-10-07 14:20

Funny concept, I liked it. I second what was said about the inventory. The screens with the waterfalls, and shop were different enough visually that I could tell immediately what screen I was on but the two with the villagers in their houses look too similar so as I'm falling I'd get them mixed up.

Pretty chill with the fact that there's no loop limit or something. You said that there are 10 quests and 10 pieces but I was able to complete the warp thing without completing all of the quests (I didn't do the "stop the loop counter" one. I discarded quests a couple times including that one.

patrickrmc 2020-10-07 14:25

I love the simple graphics a long with the fun music in the background made this type of game not feel so boring and repetitive over time, it didn't feel frustrating when I accidentally flew past the room I wanted to interact and overall just felt really fun to play! Good job.

fupi 2020-10-07 14:38

@jakobthequizguy Thanks so much, that was very interesting to read! I'm happy to see that your reaction was exactly what I was shooting for: overwhelming, then discovery, then intrigue, then familiarity! The game originally started even slower, some features like coin spawning were disabled on your first loop, but that was too annoying to replay.

The game originally had the dive and glide unlocked from the start, but it felt like there wasn't enough progression in the game. I added them as rewards instead, and made some quests dependent on you having the dive, like the loop counter quest, so the player doesn't feel like they have to loop around 10 times so slowly. I think it was a good trade-off but now I think the lab quests could have been the first ones, kind of like a tutorial, so you don't think the default falling speed is as fast as you can go.

fupi 2020-10-07 14:43

@angelee Yep, the house screens could have definitely done with some more character, even I got them mixed up sometimes.

Also... you didn't do all the quests? That's not good, I thought I tested the quest discarding system well. Do you have any more details you can give? I'll try to reproduce it.

angelee 2020-10-07 14:50

@fupi, the only other thing I can tell you about it is that I discarded the back and forth arguing between the villagers in the middle before discarding the counter quest.

As I was on my way to completing a quest (the last one I did) I noticed the warp thing was missing one piece and the counter guy still had an envelope so I thought, "huh, so you don't have to do them all".

When completing quests, I also spammed the click because I didn't want to miss hitting them.

That's all I can think of.

fupi 2020-10-07 14:54

@angelee The way the old ladies arguing works is kind of hacky, that was probably what caused it. I'll see if I find the problem.

doot 2020-10-07 14:56

Nice game!

I loved the main mechanic. Not having control on your fall set up a hectic rythm that is pretty satisfying when you get the hang of it. I liked the simple graphics, even if some stuff where unclear to me at first, such as the farm or the loop parts you get when completing tasks. I liked the music, energetic enough without getting on your nerves too fast. Other sounds were ok.

I really enjoyed the first 10 loops or so when I was trying many different stuff and understanding the game more and more. What I didn't enjoy was making a chocolate cake, and here is why in my opinion:

I loved to do trials and errors, and the expensive costs in the shop did not really allow for that. For example, I tried mixing chocolate seeds directly with cake stuff, and it didn't work. I instantly remembered the farm and thought "oh yes I have to grow chocolate first!". That was nice, but then I had to do 5 or so boring loops to gather the money for seeds, then 3 to grow seeds, then a few more to get cake stuff again. Also, during all those loops, I was stuck in this quest, and did not want to drop it in fear of having to do it all over again. I would love it if you could have multiple quests at a time so you feel like you always do something.

Thanks for the game I had fun, keep up the good work 💕

fupi 2020-10-07 15:13

@doot Thanks a lot! This is I feel the biggest problem with the concept, if you mess anything up, it can quickly become a waiting simulator. The quest system is limited to one at a time mostly to reduce complexity in the code so I could make quests more easily, I should've probably made it clearer that quests can be done again at anytime if you give up, and gave the player more to do in the end game, when you have few quests left.

binaryspark 2020-10-07 16:12

Very unique, enjoyed playing it! It's a kind of hilarious idea to drop by someone's window in freefall and shout at them that the neighbor told them to shove it, and it looks like there's quite a few different quests and such. It feels, looks and sounds goofy, which is really neat. Nice work! :D

The thing with this kind of 'timing'-based gameplay is that I was quickly overwhelmed by what was happening, there was a bunch of text on screen, I'd apparently passed a shop already, and now I have a quest I need to read while falling? I didn't actually realize yet that the whole thing looped (guess I should've, because that's the theme) and this made it feel a bit more stressful at first than you probably intended.

fupi 2020-10-07 17:18

@binaryspark Thanks for playing! I did actually intend for the player to be overwhelmed at first and then come to understand stuff as they looped. I don't know exactly how frustrating it was, but you seem to have kept going and understood the game so... xd There is basically no punishment for missing anything aside from having to loop back around, which can cost you some time until you unlock the diving ability.

tamail 2020-10-07 19:49

I've never seen such a twist on an... adventure game? It's so original I don't even know how to call it. Such a nice work! The silly graphics were also great.

steffy 2020-10-08 17:23

I really like the music. This was an enjoyable game.

vphyre 2020-10-09 16:14

I really enjoyed your game. The loop mechanics are lovely. And I can imagine it in an expanded game. Really really good job. The sound is very good and the graphics are ok. Congratulations and keep it up.

miklou 2020-10-09 16:21

Good story, it was really funny. With that music, your game have a really nice mood!

coderaurus 2020-10-09 16:58

Funny game! This fits the theme perfectly. Gameplay is funny for the most part. Only thing that bothered me was missing bought items and messing with shopping controls. Might be because of the fact that it was constant falling and I wanted to *stop for a second* to buy things. The music was a killer!

erlioniel 2020-10-09 17:15

I really love the idea!

Well done mate, the art and humor as well very nice.

fupi 2020-10-09 17:16

@coderaurus Thanks for playing! The shopping system is also something I want to redesign if I continue this game. Opening a menu with a button while falling feels awkward.

larryseinfeld 2020-10-09 22:18

Lol! This was a pretty funny game. I love the dialogue between characters and I loved the gameplay that felt like a clever blend between an endless runner and an adventure game with quests to solve. The music was cool and the art was whimsical. Good job!

roofloorwall 2020-10-10 04:02

It became a little tedious missing a room and having to look around, the glide and dive abilities did help. Also, probably the best humor I've seen on this jam.

spawncampgames 2020-10-10 17:26

Took a second to figure it out but thats the magic of the loop.. Very well done.. I enjoyed it.

shambles 2020-10-10 19:10

very cool concept! i like the idea of doing quests while looping and the music didn't get too tedious, which i though might become a problem

hidjy 2020-10-10 19:10

Very interesting concept, love it ! Maybe the player should fall slower or have a way to slow down ? (dive/plane) It as a bit hard to guess/remember the next level, but that may be by choice.

gurigraphics 2020-10-10 19:35

I liked the art. Well-suited music too. Good job

fupi 2020-10-10 19:38

@hidjy You do unlock the ability to go faster or slower after doing the Lab's quests.

leggy 2020-10-10 20:01

everything was already said by others. I want to add my redundant congratulations for this very funny title

bassguitarbill 2020-10-11 11:16

This is wonderful, well done.

jezzamon 2020-10-13 04:40

I really liked this one! I thought it was simple but I found it super fun haha.

Graphics were great, the writing was fun, this concept is funny, but I think the music wins out as the thing I enjoyed the most.

Overall, the game left me with a big smile on my face

jezzamon 2020-10-13 04:42

Oh, strong Flash Game vibes to this, which I think adds a lot for me too :D

keylime 2020-10-20 22:26

I like the art style

moski 2020-10-23 18:41

I love that this is undiluted fast paced madness.

firefox_RQHDbNbGId.png

I enjoy playing games with ridiculous premises, but this one takes the cake. An endless looping hole that has a quest system, farming and such? It was insane and I loved it for it! It's so bizarre, and yet, can't help but jiggle at things like that quest that's just about two ladies sending messages to each other.

Things like changing colors and feeding the apples were great touches too. I'm impressed by this games' depth (no pun intended). It's fantastic! :whale:

peace-of-cake-games 2020-10-23 20:21

Wow, great job! I love the art.

itsdanidre 2020-10-25 08:23

Wow, this was so fun! And so many features. Quests, farming, looping, purchasing, timing, mixing...this takes the cake, and the bouncy art was also awesome (as well as the mini stories between the two, haha)

fupi 2020-10-27 21:21

@leggy @bassguitarbill @jezzamon @keylime @moski @peace-of-cake-games @itsdanidre

Hi guys, thank you all so much for taking the time to play my game and give feedback! I want to apologize for not doing the same to your games, as I usually do, schoolwork got tight around the time you commented so I couldn't spare much time to play games for the jam. I hope you understand. :/ You are all so kind!

peace-of-cake-games 2020-10-27 21:57

It's okay @fupi ! I'm always happy to rate great games without my game getting ratings!
