Really cool concept! I think it definitely starts to make sense once there's a huge amount of fish on the screen and you're struggling to keep all of them going. I think the rate at which it goes is decent enough too to make for a good 5 minutes of fun.

One bug: if you let the fish all die, there's no apparent way to reset and try again, though you have to pretty deliberately fail to make that happen.

sztrovacsek 2020-04-20 16:32

@davidsheadgames thanks for the feedback! Yeah... I was about to add a restart button, but totally forgot about it...

ehe 2020-04-20 16:45

Cool! Which engine\framework did you used?

sztrovacsek 2020-04-20 17:03

@ehe thanks. I used the **Godot Engine**.

leon-oost 2020-04-20 18:35

Really liked the time I was playing. It start to be really intense when there is a lot of fish 0o0

sztrovacsek 2020-04-20 18:47

@leon-oost hehe, thanks! Yeah, that was kinda the point!

rk3omega 2020-04-21 03:02

Yay! I did my part to help out the environment! Nice job on the game. :) At first I didn't see the point, until I had a few fish and noticed they were getting hungry. :D Boy do they love to eat too, lmao.

I think it would be nice to have some small auditory feedback on when you can feed (I wasn't really watching the bar since it was all the way in the corner, so was mostly just timing my clicking). I would really like some more feedback whenever a fish dies. I noticed one die, it expands and fades out, but I feel like I had to have lost several fish during my session and didn't notice it. Which a counter of how many died would be a good addition, I don't recall seeing one.

sztrovacsek 2020-04-21 07:56

@rk3omega thanks for playing! Yeah, that's the thing with jams, while I'm working on a game, I don't really have any idea what to do, but once I submitted it, I'm full of ideas and feel dumb how could I left one or another feature out... But I can still add them post jam, once the voting ended I plan to do an updated version learning from the feedback.

kregames 2020-04-21 11:08

At first I didn't understand how cleanliness works. And after a while the fish boom happened (lot of young one appeared) and then I saw the progress :) Cool game, nice work!

asue 2020-04-21 11:48

I really enjoy the sound atmosphere, it's peaceful. The game is pleasant to watch. It's a nice little game, good job =D

sztrovacsek 2020-04-21 12:50

@kregames thanks! Yeah, the instructions aren't very clear. Next time I'll make sure to add a tutorial instead of a wall of text...

sztrovacsek 2020-04-21 12:50

@asue thanks for playing! :slight_smile:

azagaya 2020-04-21 17:37

Overall I enjoyed the game. I felt responsible of feeding the fished, although the were just cyborgs. This could be also understood as an example of natural population control by the available food, but idk if that was like a secondary point.

I would like that the game paused when i clicked on the instructions. I really felt all my fishes were going to die when i was reading.

Also, perhaps some soft music at the background could work! Cool Game!

sztrovacsek 2020-04-21 18:29

@azagaya thanks for the feedback. Ah, no I didn't mean it as a population control example, but you are free to interpret it however you like.

The game actually "pauses" when you open the Help. While the fish are still swimming, their hunger and the ocean's cleanliness is freezed until you close the Help.

azagaya 2020-04-21 19:34

@sztrovacsek Oh, Its good to know that my fishes wont die... as they kept moving i thought the game wasn't paused.

sztrovacsek 2020-04-21 20:06

@azagaya yeah, I was too lazy to implement a decent pause mechanic, so I just added a bool to the hunger and the cleanlines, which will be true/false depending on if the Help is open or not. :stuck_out_tongue:

davidpeterworks 2020-04-22 07:19

I liked the water and the mood. However I lost motivation to add food after 4 fish. The cleanliness level should be visualized in the water so users could see the progress. Some kind of leveling or upgrade system could keep the player engaged.

sztrovacsek 2020-04-22 15:56

@davidpeterworks thanks for the feedback! The cleanliness is actually visualized, I'm sorry, that you lost the motivation after 4 fish. :slight_frown:

When you have at least 5 grown up fish, the bar starts to fill up, the water starts being cleaner and more sunlight is coming in.

I planned leveling and upgrades, but since I worked alone I didn't have time to implement all my ideas.

xyfeng 2020-04-22 19:40

Pretty cool! love it,would like to see more levels and various kind of fish after jam version!

tylerstraub 2020-04-22 23:50

one bug is that the play again and new game buttons when you win didn't seem to work for me. nice game concept otherwise

doctortm 2020-04-23 00:13

"Stupid fish kept swimming away from the food I gave it!" _finds full screen button_ "ooooh" _reads help_ "aaah, I sea" (not sorry for the pun )

It got hard with so many fish around, and new popping everywhere. Nice game jam, it was fun

sztrovacsek 2020-04-23 09:51

@xyfeng thanks! I'm planning to make a post jam version, with the help of the feedback I got from the players!

@tylerstraub thanks! Yeah, I know about it, as far as I know it only affects the browser version, and I'm not quite sure what causes it, since I used the same build for web and desktop.

@doctortm thanks for playing, I'm glad you enjoyed it!

whatnamegames 2020-04-23 10:36

I like the simplicity of the game and that it seems nice and casual at first but then quickly escalates and gets very tense.

dnich013 2020-04-23 10:53

Hey I really liked your game. I've always had a huge interest in fishkeeping and your game filled a little void since I don't have any currently! The game is really peaceful but definitely gets stressful as the ocean fills up. I think it would be really well suited on mobile and I could definitely see myself filling commute times with the game. Hope you keep working on it.

marcusnystrand 2020-04-23 11:01

Easy to understand and fun concept to build upon! A bit repetitive after a while

penguinbob 2020-04-23 11:28

Love the art, game play, and audio. The game is very fun and intuitive. The game is really fun when their are tons of fish that you need to feed. I think the game should start out with more fish. How do you lose the game because played a new game and let the fish die and I did not lose. I also made the cleanness level none and the game still was not over? Maybe I am missing something? Any way great job keep up the hard work!

haro-games 2020-04-23 11:35

Very relaxing gameplay with a cool atmosphere, good job !

sztrovacsek 2020-04-23 12:02

@whatnamegames thanks for playing! :slight_smile:

@dnich013 haha, same, I wanted to make a game about dealing with fish for a while now, and LD was a good excuse to finally do it. Because of the time constrait, I had to left out many ideas, but I will continue working on it. And of course I'm planning a mobile version too!

@marcusnystrand thanks. Yeah, I couldn't really put all my ideas into it, but I'll keep working on it!

@guille thanks for the feedback. Well, there isn't any loosing condition in the jam version, if you don't have any fish left, you have to restart the whole game. But I will fix this in the post jam version!

@haro-games thanks for playing! :slight_smile:

m-trigo 2020-04-23 13:45

I read the LDJAM page instructios before playing, but the mechanics are very intuitive. I would say it's easy to learn by playing. Congratulations!

The game takes a while to click (until you have several fish and you notice they can stave), but when it does, it's very engaging.

My only post-jam suggestion would be to have the screen getting cleaned in-real time. That way, at first you would have a huge part of the screen blocked, but not that many fish. While at the end, most of it is visible, but you have to manage several fish.

Great job! Complete, polished and elegant. 5 fish out of 5

sztrovacsek 2020-04-23 15:27

@m-trigo thanks for the feedback! That's an interesting idea, I'll put in on my list and see if I can make it work!

j-c-one-bit-studio 2020-04-23 15:45

Yeeeeehaaaa! I managed to clean the ocean. The game starts easy but it is getting really intense when there are more then five or six fishes. Simple, but fun. Good job.

sztrovacsek 2020-04-23 16:02

@j-c-one-bit-studio cool, thanks for playing!

ponypen 2020-04-23 22:10

Cool fish game :D I enjoyed cleaning the ocean x

nogam 2020-04-23 22:15

The art is great ! A nice entry for only 72h , good job !

fryer 2020-04-24 00:47

Nice art and ambience, felt like I was in a deep vast ocean. It would be neat to have some more challenge, like funding for food running out perhaps, or some additional external threat to your robofishies. And I like the fishies' mouth, can't tell if they are happy or sad, and would catch myself projecting an emotion onto them depending on how low their hunger bar was. xD

Robo fishies will save earth! (Or destroy it, who knows what happens when they run out of trash to clean up )

sztrovacsek 2020-04-25 12:17

@ponypen thanks for playing! :smiley:

@nogam thanks! It was actually only 48 hours, since I totally missed the first day...

@fryer thanks! Yeah, I wanted a kind of Mona Lisa-ish mouth where you are not sure what are they might feel, glad someone noticed it...

erehuc 2020-04-25 14:22

Yeah I got the cleaniest ocean ever ! Good submission, may be a lack of music theme but for a 48hours game it's really good, GG !

rodpraet 2020-04-25 18:07

I liked the way the water got brighter with the cleaning going up. I suggest you to add an animation for the fish when they eat the food, I think that just opening the mouth would make it very nice. Anyway, the art is very nice!

Another little thing that could be changed is the "HP" gets really hard to see when fish are on upper side of the screen.

In general, it is a very nice game. Good job!

reallyqbert 2020-04-26 07:22

After a slow start, it sure got intense. Nevertheless, beat the game on first try without losing any fish! Yay! Have to say it was good fun, but as noted, the game starts of real slow. Perhaps start off with a couple of fishes already so that there is more to do at the beginning? Otherwise, I thought it was pretty cool and fit the theme of the jam, so kudos for getting it all done without much fuss. I should note that I faced an interesting bug at the end of the game where pressing the Quit button did nothing. On the web build, quit doesn't make much sense anyway I suppose. But pressing the Play button just caused a big grey screen to appear and nothing worked.

Reviewed the Web build.

sztrovacsek 2020-04-26 12:01

@erehuc thanks for playing, glad you liked it!

@rodpraet thanks. Good suggestions, I planned to make animations, but didn't have time. I'll fix the out-of-screen-HP thing as well!

@reallyqbert thanks for your feedback. Yeah, I used the same build for the web and desktop versions, so those buttons doesn't really work in the web version. :grimacing: Many people said it before as well that it starts out really slow, so I'll fix that one as well!

khofez 2020-04-27 00:09

good job on this one!

gamescodedogs 2020-04-27 12:42

Thanks for the game, wish you the best of luck :)

jesaipo 2020-04-27 12:47

Good little game. really relaxing entry

greendinogames 2020-04-27 14:12

Very good game! Feels well balanced for players to choose how many fish can I keep alive at the same time without spawning too many new fish so it gets out of control. Good job!

sztrovacsek 2020-04-28 07:23

@khofez , @gamescodedogs , @jesaipo , @greendinogames thanks for playing! :slight_smile:
