I really liked the art style and the map! I don't know if there was supposed to be sound, but I didn't hear any.

I like mood of this game
So Cute Sprites, great classic RPG style, the controlls weren't much explicit and some features are repetitive, i coldn't discover what was suposed to do to increase the loop number
Cute visuals with good gameplay!
This is absolutely amazing. You did a wonderful job assembling this project, and your results are incredible. Good news, Bad news- I don't ever go easy on people for jams. It diminishes the learning potential of these jams to not give you the best advice possible. That being said, the good news is, I don't have to go easy on you. This was an interesting concept, but I would have liked to see something more about loops in your project, rather than just doing the same thing except longer. The combat was really fun and enjoyable, and your music, despite being a short loop, never got stale or old- GREAT job with that. The art was EXCELLENTLY done, and your aesthetic, if simple, was cohesive and solid. Over all, you have some room to grow, but this is an EXCELLENT foundation for a project. Well done.
@iron-leonem thank you so much, i Worked extremely hard on this. Like way harder than I should have. But I really appreciate your kind words and feedback. I agree the theme is only loosely intertwined. I kind of learned with jams to just go with one of the first ideas you have because of time. I think you're right about this being a foundation for something bigger, at first I thought the design was *meh* but after testing it and working I found myself thinking "this is actually kind of cool". Who knows what will happen with this project, either way, thanks again!
@melvinng I'm glad you enjoyed! If I remember correctly you played my submission last year! I remember replying lol maybe I'm crazy
@funemaker thanks! Yeah there is a song, I'm curious as to why you didn't hear it Either way i'm glad you liked it! Your game was fun as well lol
@victor-vk I know when I was finally going to sleep last night I was thinking "ah I forgot to do in game control explanations". Live and learn lol thanks for playing
Hey there! This game looked right up my alley, I love games like this. The aesthetic is wonderful and with some love and polish it could be a full fledged title one day! I did struggle with the controls a bit, most twin sticks I've played use WASD for movement and arrows for shooting, so that took some adjusting. I also found sometimes I could walk and shoot but other times it seemed I couldn't?
But overall, visuals, styles, genre, music, all excellent. I enjoyed playing this a lot and I hope you feel accomplished with the results!
@conneli thank you I feel really accomplished I actually couldn't figure out the move and shoot issue before the deadline but yeah, I've been running through it looking at what could be improved and I could definitely see this being something I work on in the future
Good work on doing everything by yourself! I disliked the WASD for shooting though. The mouse or just just one key to shoot in the direction you're facing would have been enough. A couple of quality of life additions like damage indicators and a health bar on the characters would have helped. I wasn't sure if I was doing any damage to the enemies and had no idea how much damage I was taking to be able to strategies my actions (flee or flight) effectively. In the end I made it to the end of the first loop but died soon after. Nice wok overall. Good luck!
@reallyqbert thanks! I'm glad you at least somewhat enjoyed lol and yes damage indicators would have been fantastic, thanks for the feedback
I like the concept behind it and the moving and shooting controls were pretty cool, kinda like a twin stick shooter but with a keyboard. Nice graphics! Unfortunately I wasn't able to make it to the first boss. I managed to overcome the enemies along the way but noticed my hp would randomly decrease 2 to 4 points at a time even though I'm just walking. It wouldn't be consistent either and eventually I go to the boss dungeon wall and died walking to it from this bug. Other than that, I found myself getting into it and wanting to play more!
Well-done simple art style. At first I couldn't figure out whether enemies would come to me as the character didn't move and just shot beams in different directions. But then I tried the arrows keys and it all made sense! :)
The game is enjoyable and the boss was nice to kill, and the mushroom I just hate it LOL XD
The Graphic is good for a programmer art and the whole feel of the game is nice, I found some minor bugs here and there like bullets and enemies go through walls and some rooms are just empty I don't know if this is a bug or on purpose.
having the player shoot in burst is a bit annoying for my taste I would prefer shooting constantly and having a low rate of fire, but it's not a game breaking thing just a small notice, also the controls seem backward in the modern shooting games we move by the left hand and shoot in the right, again just a small notice.
and round the Blood don't leave it shown to the player in a float variable if you want to be this specific use a slider bar, it would look cooler.
A small advice in the end because you're active in the comments and seems to care, consider working more on the presentation of the game no matter how beginner are you. and I know it's a game jam so it may not apply here, but the game should always have a main menu of some sort to ease the player in, also it should have some feedback to the player like the enemy remaining health or a sound or a reaction when we hit the player or when the player gets hurt, these small things here and there can take you're level to the next level. and the game presentation go even further by working on your game page choose a cool font, add some screenshots, some nice lines to hype the game.
you can check my game page here and on itch.io for some reference https://fadrikalexander.itch.io/underloop (I can't post the LD link due to rules)
Overall the game experience was great and If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask. PS: Lol I really liked the Google challenge
@alexunz Thank You! that is quite strange I haven't had that happen yet, I will have to check it out, did you remember seeing any spikes around you?
@radgegames I restarted the game and they are there now! I wondered why I was getting hurt trying to get items too haha they must have been invisible on my first playthrough
@fadrikalexander Thanks so much for your feedback, I really appreciate you playing the game and telling me what you thought about it, yeah there are a lot of things I still have to improve upon!
Nice little game, i see theres a lot of feedback given, my thoughts - if you have upgrades it's better to show what upgrade you picked up, because it's hard to guess if you deal more damage or not. Nice work anyway!
Intersting man! And made in Unity, great job ^^
I also ran into the problem where I would randomly take damage for seemingly no reason. Maybe there were spikes that weren't showing up for some reason?
I think the WASD shooting and the projectiles were a little bit awkward.
Nice work for a game where you made all the assets yourself.
@animaster I KNOW IT SUX lol I forgot to do that it was another thing that popped in my head when I was going to sleep that night. Anyway, thanks for playing!
@gabriel-dias-oliveira-de-almeida Thanks for playing! And of course, Unity is the goat lol
@empty-set Yeah the spikes sometimes don't show up which is peculiar. I took a look into it, so far I beleive it to be some type of problem with the 2d extras package for unity's prefab brush, but I could very well be wrong. I'm definitely changing the controls as well, I might work more on this idk yet. And thanks yeah, I worked really hard on this I didn't think I was gonna make it
You did really well for a game made only by you. Congrats
@kpedatte thank you so much i wish i could have done more but if i had used google i think itd be way better lmao but i wanted to challenge
an excellent effort by a solo dev! shooting with wasd and moving with arrow keys freaked out my brain, though.
Keep growing as a developer!
You did a really good job and the game is really fun. The only thing I would suggest is to add sound, I am not sure if there is a problem with my computer though.
Quite a nice game. Some sound effects would help a lot. I like the graphical style. The little people looked like lego people :-). It was a bit too repetative, I could only make it through 2 loops
@sanojian I agree it's way too repetitive. I was trying to really drive home the theme of looping but I easily could have just done that with floors that go in all directions. I'm working on this game and thats the first thing I started working on
Really good job!! What i liked most was the visual - remembers me the gameboy Color games. The back-sound music is nice, and you worked well in the concept of "looping gameplay" when you did a "level" game.
That said, i don't know if you gonna keep updating this game. But if you do, it could be a lot more fun if the game have more musics - instead of the only one back-ambient-sound. And maybe, as soon as the game starts, some explaining how the loop works (i didn't see the loop count on the UI changes).
And again, congrats!
@lrvstudios thank you so much for playing and for your feedback, I'm glad you enjoyed the visuals
This was fun, although it could use a few tweaks. In my opinion the colliders need fixing, because I was hit by spikes several times, when I wasn't anywhere near them. Also, the camera could follow the y-axis movement a bit, or at least be centered on the character. It would help see the unpredictable bats and bullets flying down from seemingly nowhere. But overall, this is pretty solid entry. Good job!
