You can speedrun game by only placing forges :D
Its a great idea to add more things, kinda redesign how placing forges/taverns/houses mechanic works and turn this game into mobile clicker :D
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD48 → The Greed of the Dwarves

First of all : linking the depth of greed with the depth of the earth was a great idea. This works really well with the theme, the concept and the atmosphere. The art is gorgeous and the music pleasant (did not grow tired of it).
Didn't find the second ending, I suppose it's to reach a certain amount of gems dug ? On my second playthrough I tried to max motivation but that didn't lead to any ending. I was expecting the dwarves to just be happy drinking and living together on the surface (Hahaha!)
Placing the structures is painful process since there is no feedback to indicate whether or not you can put something. I had to try again and again... Every time. Maybe automatically place them for the player (since the placing doesn't matter) or add a subtle animation to indicate when/where to click (opacity for ex).
Also, it would be nice if digging diminishes motivation so you HAVE to build taverns.
Either way, I did 3 playthrough and had fun. A "replay button" would be nice at the end ;)
Really nice autoclicker! Cool that you added such that you could sell and upgrade buildings within the span of the gamejam. Forges scale a bit too quickly though :P
Pretty well crafted overall. There's a clear meta by building expensive forges only. I caused a float overflow that crashed the game, but prior to that I gained 615 million points per click.
I liked the game and the concept reminded me of Khazad-dûm. I did develop carpal tunnel in order to place a party tavern in every space available so they can have a fun time, but thats worth it in my books.
Really fun clicker game! Turns out boosting the Motivation to ~350% is a bad idea, it made my PC lag a whole lot. I ended up having to wreck my Party Taverns and make Large Houses instead.
Really nice game. I like the clicker vibes. With a smoother curves of earning, this game can be a really cool mobiel game
Nice game! Didn't manage to get the second ending and I'm very curious about it. Nice job!
Good game, it's simple clicker game, but with plot that keeps up you to grind, but the game is very short, but you can play with numbers, i broke the game with too high number of quality, art is also nice. Well done!
I like the addition of physically placing pieces in a clicker game, it feels like it adds a bit more depth. I would've really liked it if you showed the number per click/ticks per second, I didn't really understand how quality and morale actually affect the buttons. It also seems like building forges to improve your click rate is by far the best strategy currently.
Is the second ending getting a RuntimeError.integer overflow? Or did I get the secret unintended third ending?
The kind of game I would spend quite a bit of time on, congrats! Also I feel like the game gets quite meta, am I the greedy dwarf for not being able to stop clicking?
Thank you all for your feedback!
@bidentworks Thanks, that's a great idea to have the motivation scaling with the digging, and actually makes sense :D That would be a great ending also, but you'll miss the whole game (but it's close actually )
@lazzoro @hjorthen There's clearly a meta with placing too many forges, turns out balancing a clicker game is far harder than expected. We also wanted to turn it into a story-driven game and having the player grind for each level might make the player leave the game imo. Let's say it's not a bug, it's a jam-feature :D
@bobafett89 @loginaut Building forges is the meta, but you are the greedy player for always building more, so let's say you unlocked the third super secret ending that only super-greedy players can unlock :v:
Cool mechanics and nice art style!.
The most important thing to do with a clicker game is to correctly balance all the stats and the options. The main fun in this type of game is to try to min-max your actions to increase stats faster. Sorry, but your game fails at this, because we just have to buy some forges and click a dozen times on the mine to get to the next level.
Anyway, the music is cool, graphisms are great, and the way our final score is announced at the ending is very humorous.
I tried to find the secret ending by rummaging in the source code. I found some achievement managing (which does not seem to appear in the game) and some graphical assets of unused levels, but nothing more. It may be really secret.
@ all_the_people_who_had_difficulties_to_place_structure : you just have to click on the lighter green squares.
Great game, and a great template start to a good clicker game. I think forges might be a little overpowered, as I soon realized after a couple of clicks in the later rounds I could just put a few forges and spam click to the Dig Deeper requirement. But the game looks and sounds great. Good Job!
@recher thanks for the honest feedback! True that it gets quite easy by abusing the forges, first time we tried this type of game and it gets trickier than it seems. If you really want to know, [here](https://github.com/cocapasteque/ld-48/blob/main/Assets/Scripts/DiggingManager.cs#L127) is the win condition, but the win text is still hidden somewhere in the scene file and same for the params leading to a win, good luck finding it ;)
Also the achievements didn't make it to the game because they would basically spam the user, since the game was not that long, putting achievements in was not a great idea.
@styps thanks, yeah as from all the other comments, the forges are overpowered, we might, maybe want to look at it and upload a post-jam version if we have the courage to do it..
The deep need to feed the greed can only breed a final concede.
Very chill clicker game, pretty straightforward early on, but progresses nicely. Balancing in clickers is notoriously hard, so kudos for putting one together in a tight timeline and making it complete. Could be the foundation of a nice mobile game. Great job!
Once I clicked I was like, yes a clicker! Love to see them in jams. Was quite a fun ride, even though I felt like by buying a lot of forges I could though the levels quite easily. Still was motivated a lot to see each level (partly also because I liked the mood and wanted to see how the next level looked).
If I understood it correctly nothing from the last level took over to the next. I think it would have been fun if there had been some upgrades that you keep after multiple levels.
Ah also the placement felt a bit unintuitive in the beginning. I think previewing and snapping the buildings to the grid would have been easier :)
Anyway, all those 186461 gems for nothing haha.
This game has potential to get me addicted, which is very good! :D
I feel like some of the buildings are a bit difficult to place tho, im not sure where to click all of them. Like i cant figure out how to place the taver. But that might just be me being stupid and not the games fault :p
Very addicting clicker with a sobering ending (well, obvious one) Wondering what is the second ending
Placing buildings was a bit difficult, but when you realise how to do it, it feels fine.
Also, loved the clean and focused UI
This game is really cool and was more fun than I expected. Yes, it is a simple "mobile" clicker, but I don't know why I actually had fun playing it. The graphics are amazing, the music is simply beautiful, and overall mood is just on point, relaxing.
The gameplay is fun, however it is rather broken. You have no motivation to build anything but forges, because those are insanely profitable. However, I liked to "roleplay my gamethrough", so I even build nice houses for my little guys. But yeah, it would be cool if you put some limitations to forges and make the player think more about their actions. But other than that, pretty cool game guys, good job :)
This picture was taken like 15 seconds after I dug in the level 3 :D
