LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

Puzz Snake by Igor KinGamer 2018-05-10T16:01:45Z

Really interesting game. I love the way the Snake movement (that slow tile-by-tile one) is used to solve the puzzles. The two genres combined do make some pretty creative puzzles.

With a bit more love on the graphics and more creative, longer levels, this can turn into a pretty decent game. Meeee~ <3

Lucky Towers! by FormalCloud 2018-04-25T18:37:55Z

I really enjoyed this game. As usual, your art is charming and looks really polished. The music does fit with the general visual style, which is great. :)

Your game was able to make the weird combo of tower defense and casino slots work. Good job!

FAST CRASH by tweedle 2018-04-27T22:06:34Z

The trivia were interesting. I got the the funny state laws and I only managed to get 1 right.

Definitely love the graphics. The runner part could use some speed but other than that, the game works well. I love the idea!

Panic Farm! by Maffew 2018-04-27T21:37:38Z

You should definitely add an "AAAAAAHHHHH!" sound as you are running. The screenshots are more than enough to tell that the game is hilarious. And playing absolutely made me laugh. The game sure did give the feeling of you needing to run around, doing all sorts of stuff. The character's face has more than enough expressed this. On the other hand, the minigames were also quite fitting. Great work!

Magic The Shattering by diptoman 2018-04-27T17:17:15Z

It was really fun! The music is so good that even when I was having a hard time dodging bullets, I was still okay. Running out of weapons is kind of good and bad at the same time: good because you can experience just trying to survive and bad because you really have to try surviving all those bullets without any sort of offense.

The card system is also a definitely plus. It unlocks customization to some extent while also introducing possible strategy. Nice one!

Pair's Lair by beta 2018-05-10T15:28:52Z

I'm not sure if the slippery movement was intended, but it gave the game a somewhat humorous side.

It was a bit short, though it's certainly an interesting one. :)

MyTurn BR by outbreak 2018-04-27T21:22:37Z

The game showed that turn-based strategy games and battle royale could work, but it does need a little more tweaking. UI indicators and a sense of direction could help.

The concept is fine. If it'll receive more work, it's possible for this to turn out great.

Roulette Knight by Finlal 2018-04-29T15:07:03Z

A really unique and interesting mashup of genres. I love the choice of palette, though at times it does make distinguish the various visual elements hard. Once you get used to the game though, it's fine.

Sound effects could make this a bit more interesting but, the game in itself works just fine without without them.

Overall, I seriously enjoyed this entry. Probably one of the games I really enjoyed. :)

Fifty Card Crawl by ghost-in-the-toast 2018-05-10T16:50:35Z

I like the idea of the wand of multiplication. I didn't get its effect at first but soon found out when I got stuck between enemies with more than twice my HP on all sides. Overall, it's simple yet challenging. You do need to plan out your moves well or suffer the same situation as I did.

If you plan to extend it, more variety on the cards can make this more interesting. Also, try to make the player's card have a different color.

Feed the Beat by Benstar 2018-04-25T19:42:30Z

Really great pixel art and I do love the music! The color palette used was also a nice touch. It also looks really polished.

I also encountered the bug where pressing the arrow keys didn't seem to work. I was pressing the right keys but somehow they didn't register and made me miss those few presses. After a while, they worked again.

All in all, I think this is a solid entry. Good job!

The Ace by MacBernik 2018-04-27T19:42:37Z

Refreshing combo of genres and the graphics is really well done. I enjoyed the music too. The game plays just fine on keyboard/mouse. Overall, I like it. Nice one.

LoveGarden by Le6barbare 2018-04-26T14:49:50Z

Sometimes, there's just no avoiding matching bad stuff and it can be somewhat frustrating when they automatically match one after another, leading to a game over.

Like the suggestion above, some sound effects and the carrot/sunflower reacting to matches could flair the game a bit.

Good job so far!

Super Dashball by SecretPocketCat 2018-04-26T10:44:24Z

The game is simple but fun. Dodging while trying to score certainly isn't an easy task. I like how there's some heft to the dashing; it gives it a pretty good impact.

I'm not sure if it was intended but dashing while remaining stationary might be a nice touch. Good job!

Delve by riordan 2018-04-25T19:05:17Z

@gavin-camlin I do agree on the lack of feedback for the numbers. It's one of those things that I intended to add but didn't make it in the release. As for the window size, it was a compromise I had to make to maintain pixel perfect graphics. I'll see what I can do about these.

@Handle I already updated the description with your feedbacks. I forgot about not putting up how to play the game. A tutorial was planned for the game but, like the value feedback, it didn't make it on release. About the window size, I do wish that too. Haha.

@RadioactiveRambo Thank you for reminding me about the lack of instructions. After you left your feedback, I updated the description and added some how to play images in the itch.io page. I'll look into adding a tutorial in-game. :)

@Jima The death by unknown cause is a known bug. Although, it's also possible that to miss "Depth", which was located in the top center if the screen. If it goes beyond 400, it also spells a Game Over.

@WarIIn This was another thing I didn't get to add. It was planned too. I'll see if I can add this in the future.

**@differentname @FormalCloud @Neon and the others, thank you very much for the feedback!** My apologies for replying late.

Delve by riordan 2018-04-26T09:38:18Z

@Maytch Thank you! The addition of coffee in the game was my tie-in for another game jam's theme, where Delve is also an entry. I might remove it after the game jams. :)

Delve by riordan 2018-04-29T23:21:12Z

@pranjalbisht The player starting out in the room where the control center (the depth control station) is located can be mostly explained by the absent story. Same goes for why the maximum values for some resources are not 90. I planned to include a repairing mechanic but that and the story unfortunately didn't make it.

For the slopes, there aren't any. :) They will appear in the post game jam version though.

@caterein @reality-blind @Bodaciouslycrazy @croewens @EkkoEkko and the others, thank you very much for playing the game. I really do appreciate your comments and suggestions. :)

Skaart And The Cursed Woods by Kwisarts 2018-04-25T20:47:33Z

Really nice graphics! The concept is interesting too. I do hope that the spirits' voices were softer too and the slot spins to be slightly faster. A way to recover your health (even if the chances are low) would be a nice touch as well. :)

Mayor Metal Man by randomphantom 2018-04-27T19:26:35Z

The 2 genres combined could actually work well together. This is a very interesting game indeed. I did play the jam version so things didn't work quite well as intended but, the idea got across just fine.

If you can improve the graphics and presentation a little bit more, this game can make it out there. I can see some potential!

Hyper Simox 3000 by Paulo Brunassi 2018-05-10T15:43:31Z

At first, I thought it was an average shoot 'em up (skipped the description) so I was confused when I kept repeating Level 1 or seeing a game over for no reason. Once I read it, the game turned out to be great.

I do wish the color order prompts were more eye-catching as I often ended up not seeing the first color in most orders.

Aside from that, the graphics are great. I saw a gif of this game from the feed and got immediately drawn to it.

Tenebrous by Handle 2018-04-25T18:06:40Z

The atmosphere and the music of the game are a good combo. You can also add to that the hand drawn sprites placed in a 3D world.

The camera zoom was most certainly a nice touch. I also love the inclusion of color to indicate proximity with an enemy.

My main problem though was with navigation. The turn/tile-based movement was helpful when enemies are near but, when moving around and searching for an exit, it feels a bit slow.

Overall, the game had a cool idea. The music and visuals fit the environment quite well.

Last Girl On Earth by Reality Blind 2018-04-26T15:47:59Z

The concept, the graphics, the sound effects and the game itself are really cute. I like the idea of sabotaging other suitors and using their gifts to satisfy your girlfriend. It's brutally fun and amusing.

About the gameplay, it plays really well. The idea of the items (the flower, balloon and the cat) all differing with each other in terms of remaining in the field was a really good move. I survived until Wave 11 and enjoyed playing it.

Overall, it's a really enjoyable game! Really great entry!

Conveyor Belt Hero by MugenMagnus 2018-04-28T19:08:13Z

It's a bit short and the art is a bit lacking but with more work put into it, I'm sure the idea could work.

The character designs were interesting. Perhaps animating them a little bit could have flaired the presentation up. Still, the concept got across just fine.

Cosmic Cadence by Bodaciouslycrazy 2018-04-27T17:00:59Z

It took me quite some time to figure out the "beat" (I only figured it out in the boss battle, actually). It would probably help to match the bounce of the UI elements with it.

Aside from this, if you do get the beat, it's fun. The color mechanic certainly made the game more enjoyable.

Stoical Domination by Colin Misbach 2018-04-27T21:51:45Z

Reading your description, turn-based and RTS seems really contradictory but they actually play together well. The limited time to perform actions felt a little bit short, but I guess that's the turn-based mechanic for us.

It took me a bit of time to realize that I can mobilize my units to attack; initially, I thought they would move on their own slowly.

My main concern is with the UI. An indicator to tell that it's the enemy's actions and crystals at the bottom during their turn would be great. At first, I thought they were mine.

Aside from those, the game's concept is nice. The graphics could probably have some more love, but stuff in the game gets the point across quite fine so I guess that works. Good job!

Gender Circles by EkkoEkko 2018-04-26T11:24:05Z

The controls can be somewhat confusing, but I think it adds quite well to the need to control the circles at the same time. Simple but fun!

KEYBOARD WARRIOR by croewens 2018-04-26T15:29:10Z

I do agree with the others that some effects would have brought a bit more to the feel, especially when shooting. A goal like surviving or killing X enemies before moving to another level would also be nice touch. A little minor but the V looked like a U to me. I was confused at first.

Aside from that, the concept is great. Typing while moving around and aiming sure does make an interesting gameplay. I had fun. Good job!

Dangerous Fields by Gavin Camlin 2018-04-25T17:41:28Z

I didn't get the purpose of purchasing stuff at first but I soon found out it unlocked enemies. I do hope we can make the watering can stronger as a counter for more difficult enemy spawns.

Overall, the game was really fun! The idea of shooting enemies with a watering can is a bit hilarious but charming. :)

Flong! by Mil 2018-04-27T19:07:04Z

The sound effects made me chuckle, I admit. It's simple but an interesting take on classic Pong. Quite entertaining.

RPG Clicker by MercuryBD 2018-04-27T20:15:49Z

The graphics and your choice of palette are definitely good.

Some points though:

1.) It would be nice if you can finish interacting with an NPC using the mouse too, since you already established that this is a clicker game. I kinda expected the controls to be reliant on the mouse. Nothing major.

2.) Enemies get harder to kill but your health/recovery doesn't scale just enough to survive out there.

The genres work quite well together. I'm not so sure if they're what we can say "incompatible" or "unlikely" but, together, they're certainly fun to play.

I'm surprised your game doesn't have a lot of ratings yet. It deserves more attention. So far, good game. You can definitely make this as a full game in the future; it has potential.

00Boyfriend - A Spy's Dating Sim by SamStallion 2018-04-25T20:31:34Z

This is a very interesting and fun game to play. The graphics and the music are so good. I most especially enjoyed the music for the first level which I think fit the game very well.

The dating sim aspect of the game was an amusing addition; though, it didn't quite feel to give some important impact aside from the flirting element. Still, it did give the game an adorable romantic side, much like how the James Bond films showed it.

All in all, it's a fun and amusing game. Really good job on this one!

Soccer Slasher by Supernapie 2018-05-10T16:28:52Z

The graphics are simple but, I like your choice of colors. They work quite well together. As for gameplay, I kinda expected that the ball can actually be kicked. It kinda felt more like playing around with a hockey puck.

Aside from that, controlling the ball around gave quite a challenge. Aiming it at enemies then trying to retrieve it while avoiding the enemies did make it feel like playing in the field. Interesting combo of genres.
