LD46 — Keep it alive

Global Warning: The Smogocalypse by Ale 2020-04-22T01:00:39Z

I really wish I could give more feed back on the game but it seemed to be bugged when I opened it. I tried launching it 3 separate times but the ship would just be stuck in the air not moving. I could rotate the camera around but nothing else. The game also seems to just freak out if I try zooming out and starts jittering like crazy

Potater Toss by BoxedMeatRevolution 2020-04-22T00:15:14Z

Gotta say, really didn't know what to expect but holy crap that was great. I was extremely confused at first but after losing a few times I understood the premise. I was really confused when I just seemed to absorb the knife attacks like nothing but I assume I've built up a huge amount of defense from all the potatoes I've eaten. I really like the chalk outlines around the characters! My only complaint on that end was that it was only around certain parts of the character. Overall I really enjoyed it tho! Great job!

The Last of the Dino Eggs by MaybeLaterx 2020-05-04T01:59:51Z

It was a nice little game but I was little unclear what the red lines meant at first. Once I saw the asteroid hurdling at the eggs it all started to make sense. I also wasn't the biggest fan of the clashing environment, super voxely to smooth. The controls did feel pretty responsive overall tho! The jumping sound was also really cute

It was your fault by Gavin Camlin 2020-04-22T01:04:05Z

@fire-phantom7 Sadly the reset isn't working properly, the platforms were actually hanging to the side and you could walk across them. Sorry for the confusion

It was your fault by Gavin Camlin 2020-04-22T01:04:33Z

@junagames I'd love to hear the issue you had so I can improve it:)

It was your fault by Gavin Camlin 2020-04-22T01:25:44Z

@ketura Oh no! I'm sorry that it froze a bunch that's weird, what are your computers specs if you don't mind me asking?

It was your fault by Gavin Camlin 2020-04-22T01:27:26Z

@technodragon253 Thank you! I wish I had more time to make the animations really fit the mood but only so much I could fit in sadly. Sorry about the not resting glitch! I just patched that now (new build up soon)! Really appreciate that you think it has potential :)

It was your fault by Gavin Camlin 2020-04-22T01:29:01Z

@copito Thank you! So the main goal was to collect these batteries of sorts that the memories of yourself would lead you to but I didn't have enough time to really explain that through the game play. Really appreciate the feedback tho!

It was your fault by Gavin Camlin 2020-04-22T01:30:30Z

@alex-horstman Thank you! I definitely plan on polishing it up and being able to better tell the story that I envision for it. I totally agree as well, the holes in the floor are way to easy to fall into

Root Quest by thebreakfast 2020-04-22T01:49:23Z

I'm sure it's already been said a bunch but I love the cover art, really captures my attention and makes me really interested in what the game could be. The first section of the game confused me a lot because it looked nothing like what the cover art was and I really wasn't sure where to go but once I got into the platforming I started to enjoy it a lot more! The character design is super cute and I love all the cute little noises that they make, the melee ability seems a little hard to use because of how short the range is sadly. Along with that I was confused on where to go, my first reaction was to jump downwards (gave me a small spelunker vibe) but I died after hitting the ground. I do really like how the roots stay throughout the whole level tho, helps to keep track of where I've along with giving me a little bit of a super meat boy vibe (when ever you beat a level and you see all your failed attempts). Overall I really love the concept tho!

Tamagotchu by beats 2020-04-22T00:42:21Z

This game is adorable, god knows anything is game when your tamagotchi's life is at risk. The hand drawn art style was really cute as well!

HYPERHOP: GALACTIC LANCER by Swanijam 2020-05-04T01:07:12Z

I absolutely adore this game! The art style melts my heart with how cute the main character and the planets are. I also really love all the different shaders and VFX in the game, really give it that juice that helps it shine even more. My only problem was that the core loop was a little tedious and the aiming camera was a little hard to control if you held it for to long. I gotta ask what render pipeline did you use?

Doomsday Live by AlexTagun 2020-05-04T00:46:39Z

Yo this game is super impressive! I love the art style, I had a little bit of trouble getting in and out of camera mode but besides that it was a pretty cool concept!

The Fridge by robokarla 2020-05-04T00:57:14Z

This ideas super unique but just a little bit confusing. I wasn't really sure if I should be trying to get things to grow more mold or less. I think what confused me was that if it had more mold it was good(?) but then things would fall out of the fridge if they had a lot. But then things would randomly appear back in the fridge? Besides that I had a lot of fun trying to figure out the most optimal way to grow mold

Care Your Follower by Marot 2020-05-04T01:35:34Z

I'm honestly impressed that you were able to make this in python, I'm not sure how expansive the library is but good on you for going against the grain. One thing that felt a little off to me was the jumping, usually the moment that you hit the space bar it launches you into the air and then you can hold it to stay up for longer. It felt weird just charging it up and then jumping. Maybe it would have felt better with a little crouching animation? I also thought the design of level 2 was a little weird, usually when introducing a new mechanic you want to teach the player in a safe environment but it seemed like I really needed to wait until last minute to keep him alive. Overall I think this was a really cute game!

Tumbleweed by Brenan 2020-04-22T01:59:36Z

This game is incredible! When I saw the screen shots I was really in disbelief that this was made in such a short amount of time! I think the thing I loved the most about it was how accurate the physics were for the tumble weed, I really wish I could have played more but sadly it was just a little to intensive for my computer to handle. I look forward to giving it another shot when I get back to my main PC!

Treeblocks by mincho 2020-05-04T01:24:52Z

I think this game was interesting but I struggled to understand the strategy behind it. It seemed like the best idea was just to rapidly place things and try to connect them. At one point I did get blocked by just not being able to fit a certain piece on the board. Wasn't sure if there was a way to clear the next pieces. I think if you put some more work into it it would be a super fun game!

DEATH by Rainbows are Fun 2020-04-22T00:37:16Z

I really like the way that you illustrate the way the heart beats, that and the sfx really make it feel like there's actually a heart beating. Overall a very nice and polished game that really sticks to the theme. My only real complaint would be that it takes to long to restart after you die.

Keep Your Dreams Alive by Vojtěch Bochníček 2020-05-04T02:06:47Z

This game was pretty cute! For your first not fully UI game I think this is a great start! If you worked on this a little bit more I would say to add a little bit of an animation for when you take damage but overall really nice!

APawcalypse by Brex 2020-05-04T01:49:12Z

I dig the look of this game a lot and I think the core loop of killing zombies but then cooking up there meat while killing more zombies is super fun. There were a few things that kinda threw me off tho, reloading felt really weird since there wasn't any animation or any sort of noise for it happening. Along with that the dog was pretty up or down with being useful, sometimes he would attack zombies and other times he would just go vibe out. The music for in the house was an absolute bop tho! Great job!

MagicTrap by leroivi 2020-05-04T01:17:44Z

I think this is a super cool concept! I would have loved if I had the option to control the character as well as controlling the position of the line. Overall great job!

ComBOmb by Ethan Vance 2020-04-22T00:47:38Z

Always super impressed with the work you produce, love the amount of polish and juice you were able to fit into it. My only crit is the game loop does get a little boring after a little bit. Very fun tho!

LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

Dark Soil by Pietro Ferrantelli 2018-04-30T16:35:27Z

I really enjoyed this! I'm glad you mentioned that you made a gardening game as well because it was super fun to play! The game was super polished and juicy, I loved all the the art and the combat felt great as well! For the lighting in the game did you just use sprite masks or did you write a shader for it? Sorry if the question seems dumb I'd just like to know so that I can improve in the future :p. Again super wonderful game! I hope you guys win jam!

Guerrilla Gardening by randomhuman 2018-04-24T15:04:57Z

The art in this game was fantastic! I also loved all of the little interactions with the environment like knocking over the rubble. The sound track was wonderful as well! If I would suggest anything I would say to add a little bit more feed back when the player gets hit, most of the time I hadn't realized and I'd look up to my health bar and only have half of it left. I also ran into a bug with movement, it seems that when switching directions occasionally you can't move the direction until you let go of the button and then press it down again. Overall great game!

Deck Shooter by Jimbly 2018-04-23T20:22:49Z

This game was really fun and all together a really cool idea! The retro feel is awesome as well! The sounds did start to bother me after awhile and I had to turn some music on but that's kinda expected with retro sounds. One thing that I think you should change balance wise is the draw 3 card. On it's own it's balanced but if you have 3 draw 3's and a kinda small deck you cycle through it instantly and can just spam 1 to cast everything super fast and clear out the field and making me invincible. I would just suggest making it so that they can only have 1 copy of that card. Overall a great game man! I really enjoyed it thank you!

Deck Shooter by Jimbly 2018-04-23T21:08:29Z

Yeah balancing the prices like that seems like a great idea!

Twin Stick Town by patrickgh3 2018-04-24T19:52:43Z

Overall this was super solid and well done! Excellent execution! I don't really have an criticisms, just a really well made game! Again great job!

discardagain by blackoptics8 2018-04-25T21:02:28Z

Finally got around to playing it! I really enjoyed it but I think there are some weird balancing issues. Since my health is technically how many cards I have left in my deck it incentives me not to use it. I found that I did better when I instead didn't do anything. I like the concept I just think there should be a little redesign. Still super cool tho!

Rythm is Lava by egordorichev 2018-04-24T19:16:02Z

Crazy how much you got done in such a time, I enjoyed it a lot! The game was really frustrating but in a good and fun way, the only thing I didn't like is that I could go back to certain areas which would make me repeat the puzzle again. Great job!

Haka the Robber by Herman Chau 2018-04-24T13:25:07Z

Finally got around to playing your game! I'm interested to know if this was procedural or just prebuilt levels? As many have said the art style is super charming! I think you nailed the general feel of the game! The one complaint I have would just be the death sound, since most of the game is quite hearing that loud death sound scares the shit out of me. Overall a great game!

Dash and Slash by Bookworm31 2018-04-23T05:48:54Z

This is pretty cool! It was cool to really think out my turns to make sure that I didn't die. One thing that confused me at first was how running into walls killed you. I think that if you had it so only the top block was green it would be much more readable for the player! Good job!

Single-Screen Open World RPG by pandademic42 2018-04-23T04:48:44Z

Please @ me when it's up as well! It sounds super cool!

Single-Screen Open World RPG by pandademic42 2018-04-23T19:03:04Z

I'm not going to rate it yet because it's not finished so make sure to @ me once it is. I think the art is super cute and you picked a nice tune for the music as well! The idea sounds really cool to me and I can't wait to see what it turns into!

Some things I was confused on -Does the player have health? -Can I interact with the small towns and stuff? It would be cool if they gave you quests (but understandable if this is out of your scope) -Is there a point to leveling up?

Again good game so far and I can't wait to see the final product!

Single-Screen Open World RPG by pandademic42 2018-04-23T19:59:16Z

Awesome I'm really looking forward to it!

Single-Screen Open World RPG by pandademic42 2018-04-24T14:44:56Z

I think this came out really well! One thing I would suggest is giving a little more feed back for when the player takes damage, maybe like a sound effect or some screen shake. I like the little extra stuff you added in, the guy in the forest made me laugh. You might wanna add a little bit more of a combat mechanic but besides that I think this is a really solid game! Great job!

Single-Screen Open World RPG by pandademic42 2018-04-24T19:00:33Z

I'd be happy to help you play test it!

Delve by riordan 2018-04-23T20:35:06Z

I love the style of this game! The art is super well done and the character super expressive! A problem I had was that I was kinda lost on what I was doing, I knew interacting with some stuff would make some values go up and down but I could never tell which ones were going up and which were going down. I would add some sort of feed back so that the player knows(maybe have the numbers flash red or green). Another thing was the size of the window, I'm not sure if this was just a problem that I had but it was really small. There also didn't seem to be a way to resize it. Overall the game looks great and seems like it has potential! If you keep on working on it I'm sure it'll come out great!

Opposing Worlds by Particles GameStudio 2018-04-24T23:03:13Z

I think you guys did well! The idea of combining pixel and hand drawn graphics is interesting. The big problem here is gameplay, it just felt very slapdash. The controls are kinda weird and hard to control, while being able to control the boomerang is nice it makes almost no difference in game. The only real impact that mechanic has was slightly curving up to hit some of the flying enemies. The player also doesn't even throw it to far, fighting enemies should feel really fun, instead it feels more like a choir in this game. I think you could expand on these mechanics a lot more and have a much better game, for example if the boomerang could interact with the environment some how (like grab coins or pixels) that could be really cool! I think the visual effects in this game were really cool but it didn't make up for the fact that the game just wasn't fun. Bug wise it seems the crocodiles kill hit box turns on a little early causing in a lot of frustrating deaths, as well many other people have pointed out how weird and buggy the terrain is. In parts of the cave section textures seemed to flicker, this could be caused by you having anti aliasing on in Unity so turning that off might fix that issue. I think if you guys focus more on gameplay first and then graphics second that would result in a much better game!

Quick Down by Hugimugi7 2018-04-23T20:42:34Z

I like the animations and the general style to the game! Along with that the sounds were well done as well. I did run into this bug where the gun was over the wave text. I would also lower the screen shake a little, I love screen shake but if it's a lot for an extended period of time it starts to get nauseating. Once again nice job!

TetrisBridgeBuilder by GettingRekt 2018-04-23T19:29:33Z

The concept was really cool and the sound effects plus animations of the player were wonderful! I really like this concept and think it could be something really cool! Some things that you could improve: -the movement of the block. They move way to fast and it's hard to really plan out where I wanted to put the block because of how touchy the controls ended up being - I would also like it if the timer showing when the lava is about to come was larger so that I knew how much time I had left to do things

Overall a great game! Like I said I really like this idea and I encourage you to keep on working on it!

Hallway Rumble by Sholf 2018-04-23T21:36:02Z

Super cool game! I loved the art style and the idea is really cool too! The music in the game was super charming and the small little sound effects were super cute as well! I feel like the desks were hard to see making the game a lot harder then it really had to be. The desks also insta-killing the player seems to be a little to brutal, along with that trying to raise my stats while running was super stressful and hard to do. If there was one last thing I would change it would be the controls, I think they were just a little cramped and you could benefit possibly moving the stat boost keys over to the right side of the keyboard. Again great game with a super art style and some killer sound effects! Great job!

Super Slime Slasher Ultra by sebastianscaini 2018-04-24T18:59:36Z

I really enjoyed this game!! The art style is super cute and silly and the voice over work is AWESOME. One thing that you guys should patch fast is the main menu, if there is a way to hit play with X-box controllers I couldn't figure it out. Along with that the buttons were a little hard to hit (especially the tutorial button). As for game play I think it's a really solid idea and pretty fun as well! The one suggestion I have is to add more visual feed back for dashing and maybe change the dashing button. I tended to not use the dash because it was so awkward to reach and most of the time I was using that finger to hit the bumper to attack, there was also no visuals for the dash cool down which would have been nice. Again wonderful and delightful game! Great job!

Super Slime Slasher Ultra by sebastianscaini 2018-04-24T19:35:06Z

I'm not sure what happened to my comment but I'll leave another. I really enjoyed this game! I think the art was super adorable and I think the VO was excellent! I ran into the a problem on the main menu where I couldn't click either of the buttons, along with that there didn't seem to be any X-box controller support on the main menu. Game play wise I think it was really good! The concept was great with an equally as great execution. The only thing I would recommend looking into would be the dash. First the button lay out for the dash makes it hard to do so since that finger is usually on the bumper trying to attack, next dashing just felt very empty. What I mean by empty was that it was devoid of juice, it would have helped if there was more visuals that happened when you dashed (like the sprite squishing a little) and then some visuals for when the dash was off cool down. Again, wonderful game!! I would love to see future projects from this team!

Friends of Rose by Ripter 2018-04-24T23:30:41Z

I think that there was some interesting design in this, it just really rubs me the wrong way that the only thing you guys did for this was create the level. There's nothing wrong with using the game kit Unity provides but using copy righted music just doesn't sit right with me and I would be careful with that. Again you guys had some interesting design, just work more on having original work. Good luck!

Silence of the Chickens by Tayfun 2018-04-23T05:31:55Z

The page worked for me when I tried it. I think the game was pretty neat, I cracked up when I read "your weapon is your ass" and along with that the art was awesome! There are a few things that I would suggest taking out the trees in the middle. They obstruct the view of combat a lot, along with that it was hard tell when it was my turn and by the time I realized and tried to fire my turn was over. I also wasn't sure what the score really meant. Overall I think this is a really cool and silly idea, with a little refining it could be awesome!!

Silence of the Chickens by Tayfun 2018-04-23T05:49:58Z

Oh boy do I feel being tired haha, I hope we both get some sleep tonight! Great job again!

The Play Ground by LegionZ_Gaming 2018-04-23T18:41:15Z

Congratz on your first entry! It was supper silly to see all of them interact. One small thing I noticed was the first building on the right was a pixel to high. Besides that great job and keep up the good work!

PROM by Seanale 2018-04-24T20:56:07Z

Great job! I look forward to seeing your future games!

The Magic Shotgun Coloring Book by BenPeterson 2018-04-23T04:46:41Z

This was super cool! I loved rolling around and kiting the demons in the game, it made me feel super bad ass! One thing that took me a few rounds to realize was that you needed to paint inside the shape. Unless I'm just dumb and missed it I would be nice to point out to the player that they need to paint inside the shapes. Super good game though! Great job!

The Magic Shotgun Coloring Book by BenPeterson 2018-04-23T05:52:01Z

100% understand being strapped for time no worries friend we all were! This game was still an awesome game so great job!!

Stardust by Linkwin 2018-04-24T19:26:11Z

The art and the music in the game were great! That being said I think there's a lot you could improve. First I think there should be some sort of health bar for the player, I never know if I'm about to die or at full health so I don't know how risky I can play. The next thing I would add is some feed back for when the player either gets hurt or for if the player collects some dust. Since there isn't any feed back there the game play seems kinda empty. I think the biggest problem is the camera, because it seems to lag behind you often times you end up off screen and take damage. I think this is a great start with some wonderful potential! I would love to see you guys continuing work on it!

Stardust by Linkwin 2018-05-09T17:58:44Z

The game looks much better! I'm glad you added some UI to help the player really figure out what was going on + the improvements to the camera helped a ton! This is some great progress and it's wonderful to see you guys still working on this! The jump still feels a little weird because of how sudden it is, if the player gradually moved up the screen and then back down I think that would be much better! I also just felt a little lost in what to do. I know I have to do something like give the planets the star dust but I'm not sure what happens after that. Along with that I don't understand what the water and earth icons really do. I'm super happy to see you guys are still working at this! Keep me updated if you guys change more!

Stardust by Linkwin 2018-05-12T22:50:50Z

@Linkwin no problem at all man I'm happy to help and I'm happy you're so open to feed back! Keep me updated with your future projects!

Match 'n Slash by Lemons 2018-04-24T15:26:50Z

I really like your idea! The execution was really well too! The one thing that I wish this had was names for the items, I couldn't figure out what was the Iron Ore. I thought it was the orange rocks but when ever I tried making it it didn't work. Again great job! I feel like this game could be really cool!

text adventure platformer by Rs11s21n 2018-04-23T05:01:22Z

The concept of this was really cool! Along with that the art was killer! I think a big problem with this is how slow the character moves and how there wasn't a reset for dying. Great Job!

text adventure platformer by Rs11s21n 2018-04-23T05:13:20Z

No worries man! I thought the concept was really cool!!

Dangerous Fields by Gavin Camlin 2018-04-23T04:43:14Z

Dangerous Fields by Gavin Camlin 2018-04-23T05:12:26Z

@BenPeterson Wow thank you so much for the wonderful feedback!! Yeah I wanted to add some upgrades into for the water can but I didn't wanna kill my scope lol. Thank you so much for the great feed back! I'll keep your point about spending money making it harder in mind. Thank you again!

Dangerous Fields by Gavin Camlin 2018-04-23T15:59:25Z

@mrspeaker Wait this isn't how you garden? Yep I'm working on getting a Mac build out right now! If you'd like I can @ you once it is done!

Dangerous Fields by Gavin Camlin 2018-04-23T16:00:51Z

Dangerous Fields by Gavin Camlin 2018-04-23T16:03:18Z

@Herman Chau that's so crazy you go such a high score! It really made my day waking up to those tweets from you so thank you for that as well! I've written down all of your feed back and I'll be looking into it. Thank you for also including your optimal strat as well! It will be useful for balancing. I will definitely look into the 6x plant! Thank you again!

Dangerous Fields by Gavin Camlin 2018-04-23T18:03:58Z

@LegionGames Thanks haha, it's a small thing but I'm glad people notice it! <3

@Mathiouza Thank you so much! I would love to have added music and hope to work on my skills to compose such music in the future so hopefully one day. I'm super happy to hear that you enjoyed the experience!

Dangerous Fields by Gavin Camlin 2018-04-23T21:28:38Z

@Guvitron thank you very much! The camera shake is meant to make the weapon feel more powerful so I'm going to keep it in but I will try to make it a bit more smooth to get rid of the choppy feeling. Thanks again!

Dangerous Fields by Gavin Camlin 2018-04-23T23:42:45Z

@Jimbly I'm glad you enjoyed it! I'll do some testing with just holding it down thanks for the feed back!

Dangerous Fields by Gavin Camlin 2018-04-24T18:29:23Z

@Flatterp I'm really glad you liked it! I appreciate the feed back on the risk and reward mechanic and I'm so glad people have been enjoying it so much!!

@pinkemma Farming is crazy man, lost a many of good farmers to sunflowers. Damn Bastards! I'll definitely be implementing that in the post LD version! Thank you for the feed back!

@GettingRekt Thank you for the compliments on the polish! Do you think it was to difficult?

Dangerous Fields by Gavin Camlin 2018-04-25T00:48:17Z

@Linkwin oh shit wait they can attack you in the house? Or do you mean like they started attacking you before you left? I'm plan on fixing them attacking you before you leave the house but if you can get hit before you leave then I need to fix that pronto.

Dangerous Fields by Gavin Camlin 2018-04-25T00:54:36Z

@Linkwin Ok I will note that and try to patch that as soon as possible. I super appreciate that!! I haven't played harvest mood but I've heard a lot of good things about it! I should have that fixed sometime tomorrow?(No promises) but again I can't thank you enough for letting me know about that!

Dangerous Fields by Gavin Camlin 2018-04-25T00:56:24Z

@Linkwin oh shoot I didn't realize you made stardust! I really digged that game(especially the art), with a few fixes to the camera and some visual feed back it could be really good!

Dangerous Fields by Gavin Camlin 2018-04-25T01:25:13Z

@Linkwin yep just followed! Just @ me when ever you put up another build!

Dangerous Fields by Gavin Camlin 2018-04-25T12:09:28Z

@Dylan-Rainwater oh shoot I'll try to fix that and see if I can fix it.

@randomhuman that's super weird, I just went and tested it and it seemed fine. I'll look into it sorry about that.

@randomhuman does it happen right when you load up?

@riordan Super happy you liked it! Sorry the point of purchasing items wasn't terribly clear at first. I'll make sure that I work on more ways to make it clear to the player that what purchasing plants does!

@Dribix Thank you and I'm glad you enjoyed it! I tried really hard to emphasis the risk and reward aspect of it so I'm glad you appreciated it!

@Jin9310 thank you so much for the feed back! When you say it's lacking sounds do you mean that it's lacking because of no music or do you feel like there should be some more sounds in general (like foot steps). Thanks again!!

I think this is super sweet! Good on you guys for doing something so creative with your children! I know as a child I would have been THRILLED to do something like this! Great game again!

I think the concept is really cool but when ever I start it the game seems to be started. I also can't really deal damage to anyone. I think the art was really good but I would work on the game play some more.
