LD39 — Running out of Power

Drone Supervisor by Jimbly 2017-08-10T19:39:00Z

Great game! The UX was superb, among the best I've seen in a LD entry.

Power Surge by danielilett 2017-08-02T16:38:58Z

Reminds me a lot of the McDonald's game. Nice take on the theme! :)

Some suggestions/feedback: - Really loved the graphics, low poly done very well, and the depth-focus made it all the better. Wind power scene in particular was well decorated. Would be great if you could fix the blurry texts, was the only thing letting it down. - Perhaps the whole scene could flash red when that generator is critically low. - I would have liked more feedback on wind power generation - actually tried to grab the turbine blades and spin them, expecting them to snap to my cursor and move with it. - Nuclear power is by far the easiest - could make it more challenging by focusing on the precision of the task, maybe disposing and replacing the rod without touching any of the other rods? - If the game values were much tougher, I would possible speed up the transitions - it was a really nice effect, especially from the main menu to the game, but if it were as high octane as I thought it needed to be the transitions would get in the way a little. - I would make the hitbox for going into each room bigger, also including its energy counter. I tried to click on the power generated for each room instead of the green arrow more than once. - Would have been nice to have more audio cues, even if the sound was repeated for many different actions. Swapping rooms, clicking on rods, etc.

Great entry! Especially for compo

Had a real tough time figuring out a lot of what was going on this game. Attacking/defending was clear enough once I'd read the instructions, but there's a real lack of detail in a lot of the options - the upgrades path should show a description of the upgrade on hover. Do upgrades cost money? Skill points? I couldn't see anything that told me, only that I was unable to afford them. I also found it strange that I couldn't upgrade specific skills, and it would just upgrade the tree to the next level of upgrade - what if I want my level 2 skill 1 ability early? It looked like a lot of effort was put into the skill tree but I couldn't afford to spend time flitting from the help menu to the skills tree while the game was going on. A shame, because I feel like if I understood this game a little more it would have greatly increased my enjoyment of the game.

Maple Madness by Chandan smart games 2017-08-09T16:20:31Z

Cute game! Liked the graphics and the theming of the game. Think having the battery eventually drain wasn't the best design decision - I feel like not cleaning splats up in time should have been the lose condition, rather than your power running out. Had a few issues with hitboxes when cleaning a spot directly south of me, but otherwise played smoothly. Good job!

Zzap by HS_Dave 2017-08-09T16:01:40Z

Gorgeous game! Looks really polished, sounds awesome, plays great.

Criticisms: - for what seems like a slow, thoughtful puzzle game, having an element that requires you to speed through it didn't feel right (the purple corruption blocks). It just seemed to mix action and puzzle in a way that I didn't think meshed particularly well. - I thought the level design was a bit all over the place. Once I'd understood what each tile did, I blasted through the rest of the 15 levels in about 3 minutes. I had a good time, since the game felt so nice, but I didn't find myself stopping to think at all - something you're actually penalised for doing due to the time-limits imposed. I don't think this sort of game works well at all with randomly generated levels and would have much preferred a set 20 levels that actually pose a challenge. In a similar vein, 'restarting' would completely annul the existence of purple tiles since you could think, figure out the route then restart and instantly complete it. - I thought the 'obstacle' tiles could have been presented more clearly. I'm not super familiar with electrical nodes but it looked to me like I could hook them up - I'm not sure what fantasy world the grid is set in, but it might be worth having objects that are completely non-electrical related so they can be read a little more clearly (a toy wooden block, a knocked over bottle, even a non-tile much like the borders). - Costing points to restart also feels very punishing too, though this ties in to my previous issues with randomisation and time-based puzzle games.

I'm only being so critical since I think it was great! :) Do what you will with the feedback. Good job!

Power Up by MMM 2017-08-09T16:09:54Z

Lovely game! I think most people have given feedback about the handling of the game, so I'll touch on something else; while I agree the mood is gorgeous with the graphics and the audio meshing in perfectly, the relaxing 'zen' feeling I got from it was directly at odds with me frantically sprawling to the other side of the mesh tube to collect some energy while I'm sweating at 5%. I can't help but think that the gameplay and theming don't go together perfectly - as I said, either an endless zen game or a puzzle game would have been a better fit for this mood, imo. However, very solid entry! Kudos!

The Electrician by Catoto 2017-08-10T19:05:26Z

Cool entry! Simple but fun. I wish there were some form of instructions though - I struggled to understand why I was being zapped sometimes but rewarded other times. I also didn't realise that white pylons with no wiring could be used to increase your power until after five attempts. I thought the timing of the animation vs the button press was a little misleading - I'd prefer the animation to line up with the pylon. If that means there's a delay between button pressing and the collision check, I wouldn't even mind that - it makes the game more difficult but in an understandable way - as it stood I was confused whether I should be clicking when my guy passed the pylon or before my guy reached it.

Nice art, nice song choice, fun entry, just needs a description - even if it's even on your LD page.

LD42 — Running out of space

Polar Panic! At the Disco by PeachTreeOath 2018-08-16T14:34:54Z

This was utterly hilarious. Loved it! My only gripe was I had difficulty getting the caps to move down - they all ended up sliding off the top of the screen at light speed.

Great job!

Blocks by Anubhav Kashyap 2018-08-22T14:54:48Z

Great job for five hours!

I would have liked the shadows to cast straight down onto the blocks. The wall was a help, but the angle made it hard to see what was going on sometimes.

I didn't like how high you jumped up. It felt perilous making every jump! I would make the jump more controlled with less vertical height - maybe add a double jump if needed (I noticed at one point I needed all that height to jump from the right to the left side after a stream of centre blocks).

Nice one!

Drilling for Treasure: Free to Play Edition by MaybeLaterx 2018-08-16T13:49:25Z

Haha it was quite the challenge, though most of the issues were just syncing everybody's code up with each other's without conflicts. We had a bunch of upgrades planned for Scrap (the cog resource) - stronger guns, faster reloads, quicker drilling, a drone that follows you, etc. The gem resource was there to make pop ups more manageable (reduce number, speed up countdowns, 'ad-bomb' screen clear power up). The minerals are your final score used for the leaderboard system (sadly not in).

Thanks for playing ^^

LD43 — Sacrifices must be made

Revolver Curse by SkullPixel 2018-12-04T18:48:46Z

I enjoyed this! Great effort!

Maybe it's just me being dumb, but I was in the room with the first gravestone checkpoint for about 3 minutes figuring out what to do. I didn't know you just had to walk through! The way it is embedded into the webpage makes the corridors sometimes seem like dead ends.

I found the boss really really tough, I only managed to kill it once and I also killed myself at the same time. I'd also like to see some feedback so I know you can actually kill it - I just jumped past it once I thought you couldn't kill it.

A more conclusive ending with the tall gravestone would be nice. Is it because I didn't kill the boss?

I'd like to see some extra max bullets power ups somewhere. I think that would be nice.

Overall, great game! My biggest complaint would be I would have preferred a more realistic interpretation of the games mechanics with its lore - more like a zombie throwing his limbs across the room, or something to that extent. It was hard to equate 'low ammo' with 'low life' - even an annoying pinging noise like in the Zelda series would be a little help. :)

Keep it up!

Ursa by Maksym 2018-12-05T18:00:36Z

@niterich nice suggestion :) The original story went a little differently, where you're all grown up and mum's becoming old and frail, and you have to carry her through the later levels. Sadly time is always a factor! We changed the story slightly to keep it complete as we didn't have enough level designs to cover the whole narrative whilst keeping the dialogue bitesized, but your suggestion would have been a great way to convey a similar meaning. :) Thanks for playing!

Cartel hunt! by Bartosz 2018-12-04T19:32:42Z

Wow! Really interesting entry, with some very unusual mechanics. The detection tool is really interesting, having to keep track on who you chose to profile whilst also waiting to see if the result matched. I really liked that aspect of it. I actually would have quite liked to be able to profile multiple people at once - it's perhaps a mechanical advantage, but keeping track of more people is an ever harder ask, and would have added more choices for the player.

I think most of the fun is derived from finding the quickest strategy. I think the game could have benefited from a slight reduction in scope - 100 citizens is so many! I would have preferred a lower number of civilians and a lower time limit to add some intensity to the situation. When I found the boss, I was almost disappointed, because I didn't expect the game to end when I had so much work left to do!

Good job! :) I had fun.

Food Chainz by hannaesthetic 2018-12-04T17:29:07Z

Great game! I think my favourite thing was the fact that it takes multiple times to start the rap battle, like you're really goading them into it. Very clever!

Deadly Sales by BananaMellow 2018-12-04T19:02:50Z

I would have liked different sounds and bullets depending on which gun is being used :) I sometimes wondered if I had actually swapped. I also found weapon 2 a little lacklustre, it never seemed to pick up speed again for me.

Gj!

Support Class by SamuelDeboni 2020-04-22T00:38:40Z

Very solid entry! I feel like the game should have also paused when the player had their move, as selecting a fresh ability without an action point available seemed not to register the new ability being clicked, meaning you couldn't pre-set moves before instantly clicking on a target when it was ready. I also feel like it plays out kind of turn based (but in a unique way) so pausing when you can take your turn seems fit to me.

Keep the run alive! by himegized 2020-04-21T17:46:05Z

Love the flashing visuals and the neon colour design. A fast-paced game which was a lot of fun! I think restarting from the beginning after failure is too punishing for a game of this length, so I'd let them restart from the same level. I think the icons could be clearer (gravity swap is a circle? is that the finish or a teleporter?) and maybe a little larger, same for the text. A great entry!
