LD42 — Running out of space

Mob Floor by Pixels Everywhere 2018-08-13T19:07:00Z

Amazing graphics!

Like all concepts, it's kinda hard to really know how well it will work. The problem I saw was instead of it being a matter of throwing corpses off of the platform to make room to move around, I would just end up dying instead because there were so many of them at once. So maybe turn down the spawn rate for each wave?

The sounds fit pretty well. Some of them seem a little loud, but overall I think they add to the experience. And the mechanics are pretty smooth, I do wish it was a littler more dynamic, like being able to move while attacking? Or having some sort of dash ability? I guess what I'm trying to get at is that the combat wasn't super rewarding. I don't know, but what I do know is you did some good stuff here.

Great work!

Beyond Space by Allan Kong 2018-08-12T23:14:28Z

Nice job! You did some pretty cool stuff. The animations and screen shake really add to the experience. You even did a mini map.

One thing I would say, is the combat doesn't feel very rewarding. Shooting your bullets doesn't have much action, or "POW" to it. I even tested it out, and you can almost out-run your own bullets. Maybe I'm accustomed to fast-paced games, but it did feel a little slow to me.

That being said, I really do think that you have good art, and the game overall is great.

LD44 — Your life is currency

SubMoney by hbocao 2019-04-30T17:31:59Z

Very cool how you made a whole subway station. I felt like hitting the notes was pretty unforgiving sometimes. Good choice with Canon in D

LifeTime Incorporated by Flatgub 2019-05-08T14:01:54Z

Like @gonutz mentioned, I feel it was too hard to learn how to play your game.

The art is simple and nice, and it's cool how you're in this small little space, it felt nice and cozy.

I like it!

LifeTime Incorporated by Flatgub 2019-05-10T14:37:07Z

@flatgub Sorry about that. I guess I had the sound turned off or something. I fixed my comment. It felt a lot better with that!

Highway To Hell by Dev_For_Pizza 2019-05-03T18:07:10Z

I had fun playing your game! It was oddly satisfying clicking the cards. Although there didn't seem to be much strategy in doing so. I just clicked as much as a could.

I did find a bug in the shop where I clicked a card and the next round it became a green X and gave me -95 attack, which I thought was funny.

Good work!

Stabman! by NoahRo 2019-04-30T17:50:18Z

I couldn't get past the boss. She was pretty tough. I wasn't sure if I was dealing damage. And I wanted to try out some of the other boots, but I had to buy the wall jump ones in order to proceed.

The music is cool, it gave me some F-Zero vibes. Nice job!

Piggy Butchery by Reality Blind 2019-04-30T04:21:09Z

I would be lying if I said the art style wasn't what got me to play your guys' game. It's really good. Like some other people mentioned, I had a hard time figuring out how to get past the first pit.

Life'$ A Coin by shrinjoy_fox 2019-05-01T18:02:33Z

I think I would die without your sprint button

It's really easy to leave audio for last, but that's probably the biggest thing I feel that's missing. There was no impact on my actions.

The game looks nice, you even got some post processing in there, if I'm not mistaken.

Good work!

Leap by Adam Elaoud 2019-05-03T16:57:37Z

The music when I first loaded the game really got me in the mood, while it was on a short loop, it didn't really matter, because I was already invested. I love the art.

One thing I noticed was it was hard to properly time my jumps when the character would jump outside the screen.

I like the concept, but for me, the abilities seemed to harm me more than help me at first. I would try to test out some of them as soon as I got them, and then die, and it really required a change of play-style when I was used to playing a different way. Maybe that's just me.

Love it!

The Soul Machine by Ian M 2019-04-30T04:16:59Z

Cool art style! Very interesting approach with the 3D tilting and moving.

It felt like it was hard to dodge attacks, like whenever I went in for a strike, I would always get hit. I tried rolling but it never seemed to help.

Good work!

Spare Life by Colin Misbach 2019-04-30T17:21:29Z

Thanks for playing @synystercola, @carlsonandpeeters, and @yinian! I guess it's pretty apparent that the mechanic of only being able to shoot in your direction wasn't the best design choice. I probably just got too used to it during development.

I'm glad you guys liked it! Thanks for the feedback!

Spare Life by Colin Misbach 2019-05-01T01:38:30Z

Thanks @nico-the-pro, I updated the itch.io site to include the Linux build as well. I didn't know it supported multiple files, whoops.

I found that bug my first playtest after publish. It should probably fix if you were to die again. Yea it is a pretty funny bug.

I'm glad you liked the concept. I was really motivated by it. But I definitely think I over-scoped.

I appreciate the feedback!

Spare Life by Colin Misbach 2019-05-01T15:47:52Z

@hbocao Yep that's the end. I wish I had more time to flesh out the level and add more variation to the tiles and just make it longer in general. Thanks for playing!

Spare Life by Colin Misbach 2019-05-01T15:54:47Z

@wesxdz Yea the fast respawn was mostly there to prevent getting annoyed when you die too much. I realize it adds some design issues. Your allies you pick up can die permanently, so I thought of it more as "keep your buddies alive".

Thanks! P.S. nice avatar :v:

Spare Life by Colin Misbach 2019-05-08T13:43:55Z

@aterlamia Yea I realized that I didn't give any way for the player to know when they died. That's mostly why I just instantly re-spawn them at that position.

Some of the guns could definitely be hard to understand, but I do like the concept of your buddies helping you out when you try to figure them out.

I'm also very sad I didn't have more time to build a longer level.

Thanks!

Spare Life by Colin Misbach 2019-05-08T13:47:19Z

@barret I didn't configure the controls properly to an xbox controller (I don't really have one to test with), that's why it really only works with keyboard and mouse, and a switch pro controller.

Mostly the abilities you lost were debuffs (like slower speed, or shorter jump), but I guess it would be helpful to have some text go with the icons.

I'm really happy you had fun with the guns. Those are my pride and joy and I spent most of the time working on them.

Thanks for playing!

Bread by Quackqack 2019-05-08T15:39:05Z

Funny concept, and an interesting take on the theme.

The movement didn't feel the greatest, but it did its job. And near the end of my game It got very laggy, and it was hilarious because there was a huge swarm of paparazzi and with my 10 fps I stuttered to the grocery store. But I made it. I got the bread!

The lighting was pretty cool and the twitter feed was an interesting concept, but I didn't feel the need to look at it because it would be too distracting.

Great job!

Blood Quest by shaner421 2019-04-30T04:06:12Z

Cool stuff! I like the dash. The sounds are sweet. I wish it was easier to attack the boss without getting so close. Took me a while to realize I had a fireball

Where goes your life by Tom R 2019-04-30T17:40:22Z

Interesting engine of choice. And a unique take on the infinite jumps, gave me some Flabby Bird vibes. Level 8 is pretty hard. I only managed to make it to 10.

Cool stuff!

Mahou Shoujo Monster: Promised Fate by jadedResearcher 2019-05-01T13:59:23Z

I couldn't figure out how to progress without making pacts. So I resorted to increasing my magic power so much that I one-shot every enemy

The art is very cute, and the music to go along with it as well, at least in the beginning. I will ignore the underlying dark themes.

Love it!

The Aging Soul by bigwhiteshogun 2019-04-30T04:34:17Z

Took a little to figure out I had to hit X to scroll through the images. The concept was pretty cool. The art is awesome. The movement felt a little stiff, but other than that, good work!

Get Me My Drones! by floxy 2019-05-08T15:27:29Z

I like the art. I wish there was music though. As some other people mentioned it didn't reset properly when I died.

It's a pretty cool concept. Good work!

LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Walls by Omiya Games 2021-05-11T02:58:50Z

Love the jams (pun intended)! The movement wasn't the smoothest (i.e. camera, player) on my machine, it was slightly nauseating. But to counteract that, picking up objects and dropping them was very satisfying. I was stuck in the last room thinking that things were broken and I couldn't pick anything up off the ground, until I realized Q and E were introduced. But all-in-all, great music, nice relaxing mood, and limited but mostly straight-forward mechanics. Good job guys!

Diggy hole by someone 2021-05-01T04:05:40Z

Very ambitious to create a free roam game, I respect that. After not really knowing what all the tools did, I decided to dig straight down until I reached the secrets to the game. Sadly, I didn't find much, so I guess it truly is an open world. The game definitely has a lot of mechanics, but I felt like none of them were fleshed out enough to really experience the vision you had, at least for me. But I did like how you had a mostly functional game loop, good stuff!

Infiltr8 by joe40001 2021-05-09T02:45:50Z

Nice atmospheric noises! The repetitive sound for moving got kind of annoying, but I still like the way it sounds. Probably a more impactful repetition in the game though were the levels. When I got to the last level, and entered the first "sub-dimension", I saw there were more sub-dimensions, and I'll be honest, I just closed the game there. There wasn't much variety, and I kind of knew what to expect.

That being said, The visuals and sound got me hooked pretty early on, and made me stick around long enough to see what your game has to offer. The concept is pretty interesting, but there would need to be more engaging mechanics. Nice job!

I dreamed of Matriochkas in Paris by Sirkovitch 2021-05-11T03:42:35Z

Like some have mentioned, I had no idea where to go after the first door. I even ran so far forward to fall into the deep void! Obviously, the graphics are top-notch. But I felt like I didn't get to experience anything with no sound, and no direction. (I didn't play the post-jam version, that way I could give a rating)

That said, what I did see was done well, good stuff!

Depths of Hope by gustavo.christino 2021-05-11T03:33:35Z

Love the art. I'm sure most people have mentioned that the auto-scroll is way too slow, and having the ability to "push" down the camera would have been great. That said, the sound is atmospheric, and aside from a few, as @inno put it, derpy sharks, it was pretty well done. Nice stuff!

Layers Of The Unexplored by Colin Misbach 2021-05-01T03:27:19Z

@mrstari thanks! Yeah I definitely should have spent more time on the movement. I was aware of the mouse, but by the time I noticed I decided to focus on last minute add-ins instead. Probably something I regret. Appreciate it!

Layers Of The Unexplored by Colin Misbach 2021-05-01T04:41:27Z

@retrome thanks! Yep, I definitely should have inverted the vertical camera movement. And yeah I wanted to add more effects to the environment, to make it easier to see where to go, but that fell to the bottom of my priority list unfortunately. I wished I could have focused on that more.

@phil-lesnar I'm happy you made it to the last fight, it's the one I did the least testing on, but I wanted to make sure it was fairly difficult while I was designing it. Sounds like it was (and hopefully you beat it ) Thanks!

Flare by emmyoop 2021-05-09T03:01:18Z

Love the attention to detail in the UI and title screen. The camera movement doesn't scale with how fast you move your mouse, which made it hard to find the next place to go to. But the directional movement was pretty interesting. I liked the idea of flying around a Minecraft inspired maze to discover unique puzzles and blocks. Nice!

In Search of Paradise by Magnanix 2021-05-01T03:42:19Z

Fun game! The boss battle was the star of the show. I felt that the lead up was not really necessary (killing those immobile nude ghosts). I probably would have preferred if it just started in the boss fight (or at least get to it much sooner after learning the controls). That said, the animation was done quite well, and I do appreciate the detailed models, I can tell a lot of work was spent on it. My favorite part was charging up the heavy attack while the boss was in her attack animation, it was really satisfying! Nice work.

Cursed Cave by Bender Biber 2021-05-01T04:18:26Z

Collecting health by killing enemies was definitely a great help to making it so you can progress. That said, because you can't move while you attack, and enemies walk just as fast, or faster than you, it means your only option is to stand still and click the left mouse button. So I guess I was missing some variety of the things you could do. Unreal was a pretty bold choice, but I think it paid off because of the neat 3D environment and camera movement. Good stuff!

dig deeper by The White Kiwi 2021-05-01T04:29:32Z

Very unique! The mood of the game is surprisingly well set up, despite it only being a black background with white text and a font. One thing that bothered me was the text box not being re-selected after hitting enter, especially when it's timed. I think with some audio cues, it would have really got me into it. Nice!

Kevin by Raphael Dias 2021-05-11T03:57:35Z

A lot of content for a game jam! Pretty rare to see such story driven games. I felt like the character art was out of place from the environment in some scenes, but other than that it looked nice and had the same cohesive feel. I was super surprised at the jump scare, it really caught me off guard and the music was awesome in that moment. As someone who loves horror, I appreciated that. Good stuff!

Deepest Space by ItsIsaac 2021-05-11T03:50:41Z

Complex space travel mechanics are always intriguing. But I did feel like my ship wasn't moving at all, and there seemed to be nothing to interact with. It was like I wasn't able to explore a lot of the world(s) you created, which was a shame. That said I liked the space setting. Nice!

Deep Cleanse by LutraLudens 2021-05-11T03:11:16Z

The music is great, maybe a little too intense for the mood, but overall nice. The mechanic of picking up the "red blood cells" felt a little too hard to control, and I probably would have liked the ship to be more maneuverable. Or if you made it a little more forgiving and had them "magnet" closer to you when you get near, effectively increasing their overall hit sphere. (or some tool to harpoon and grab them, idk, the possibilities are endless). The game overall was unique, and I can tell a lot of work was spent on level creation. Nice job!

AntiVirus by zazz0000 2021-05-09T03:14:12Z

This felt very nostalgic. Loved the art, and the intro was pretty rad too. I'll admit this is definitely not the type of game I would normally go out of my way to play. But I respect the simplicity of it just being an emulator of a simple file explorer. The puzzles felt a little non-intuitive, especially the ones right at the start. The graphics were top-notch, nice work!

Deep Lost by Lysenti 2021-05-11T03:21:33Z

Always love the classic following eyeball, got me in the mood immediately! I felt like the "slippery floor" gimmick didn't have to be that way. I'm not sure if it was intended to be smooth "deceleration", or literally like you are walking on slippery guts, but I think just having the player stop immediately after letting go would have felt better (especially when you need to make precise movement inputs). The jumping was done well though, it felt good.

That said, I loved the horror aspect, and I thought it was done really well for a game jam, let alone 2D platformer. The art accompanied it nicely. Good job!

in the depth of cheese by araz vakili 2021-05-09T02:54:47Z

Great music! On higher resolutions the text is blurry and font is hard to read, but that's a minor thing. The intro is pretty long, especially if you die, but that isn't too big of a problem because I think the game actually gets easier the farther you progress, and it seems like there's no end, and you travel into the blue void forever.

That said, I think the movement of your "ship" is very smooth and responsive. Sadly, there wasn't too much in the way of interacting with the game other than moving out of the way of the slow moving "cheese holes?". Again, loved the music, good work!

deep madness by domsse interactive 2021-05-09T03:19:13Z

Very satisfying movement + sound combination. It gets pretty hard pretty fast. I tried "cheating" the system by pressing space as fast as I could, but that didn't work out too well for me. I will say it might be nice if the spikes were a little more visible, that way I can no for sure that that thing is going to kill me. Otherwise was a lot of fun, nice job!

LD53 — Delivery

Ghost Pizza by pkenney 2023-05-06T06:15:21Z

Fun game! Those sure are some greedy ghosts :ghost:. I think a dodge mechanic with WASD controls could make the gameplay just a tad more complex/satisfying (basically just some way to deal with the ghosts). But I appreciate the simplicity. It is a solid game, looks good, doesn't overstay its welcome, and has a pretty addicting game loop.

Loved it!

SWAN SONG by Simon Rahnasto 2023-05-07T00:28:33Z

Love the mood and style. I wish I could easily shake the flashlight while moving at the same time, or if it made it so you can only shake your flashlight when it goes off (to increase the spooky-ness). Also, personal preference, I think a dodge/roll/dash mechanic would fit well in this game.

The art is great, and the music/sounds really add to the immersion. It's also well-paced, things didn't get too stale. Nice game!

Marvin's Day Job: Sabotage by Devez 2023-05-04T07:18:43Z

I'd be lying if I said the constant noise of the balloon didn't bother me after several attempts on a level. But the gameplay was pretty addicting. Just enough challenge to keep me interested but not too much to make me want to quit. Neat game!

Space Delivery by Kirbloid 2023-05-03T03:23:28Z

Neat idea. My one minor gripe is I wish the controls were a little more fluid. Having to stop moving with the arrow keys to shoot made it slightly annoying to control the game. Mouse support would be a game changer.

But I think the concept was cool and the graphics and audio provided a unique experience. The levels were nicely paced, and it felt like things were kept fresh.

Nice stuff!

Frontier Express by twobitadder 2023-05-04T07:32:00Z

Love the style. The one thing that was hard was knowing which packages go to where. I think one of the jobs expired or something and I couldn't pick anymore packages up, at least that's what I think happened in my first playthrough.

But the graphics, audio, and gameplay really got me immersed in a cool idea. The movement was satisfying. Fun game!

Superbloom by devook 2023-05-06T23:56:38Z

Like the concept. I got a bug where after pollinating a flower the camera freaked out and my movement took me under the floor. The camera/movement felt a little chaotic for a relaxing game (that's the best way I can describe it).

The world is nice and vibrant, and the music is calming.

Apocalypse Prime by ADerpyChickenStudios 2023-05-03T03:35:58Z

Fun idea. I think there were a few too many pauses in the beginning. I think a lot of them could have been popups while you are still making deliveries.

I liked how the game felt, almost a sense of nostalgia. I also enjoyed using the oil puddles to my advantage for speed.

Cool stuff!

Blockhead Bill by Prismapunch 2023-05-06T05:58:54Z

Pretty relaxing, ironically. It was satisfying just going through orders as they came in, and it was quick and easy to check the ids of the boxes. Liked the art style too. Only thing I wish is that the text bubbles didn't cover boxes you saved on the table for later.

Nice game!

Sick Day Delivery by Pyspher9 2023-05-04T07:42:04Z

That beat drop is goated. Honestly the main reason I tried to keep those pesky germs away was to hear it over and over. The movement was oddly satisfying. No cooldown on the medicine burst, and it felt like you could go up to infinity on the speedometer. Only critique is maybe a map would help to find the route to the next mega-germ, because otherwise it was a lot of guessing which hallway it was down. Super fun!

Last Stand Delivery by Sheng Mai 2023-05-06T06:36:48Z

Loved the style! I'm not a huge puzzle game person, but I found myself enjoying this. I did get slightly frustrated having to restart multiple times after accidentally pushing a unit into the wall, especially after I solved the puzzle. So maybe more forgiving level design in the earlier levels would have been nice, but maybe that's just me.

The art is great, and the music fits well with the theme. Cool game!

Flooding Fisherman by JoaoPBax 2023-05-03T03:58:33Z

Fun art style! Having all the bouncing fish jumbled with the fishing rods made it hard to switch rods, felt like artificial difficulty (having each rod on 1-3 numpad would be super helpful in the heat of things).

The game looks awesome and the music matched it perfectly. The mechanics all felt unique. Cool stuff!

Void Scion by TechnoPorg 2023-05-04T07:05:59Z

The loop of killing enemies to get upgrades felt pretty good. I think having a little more clarity or impact of what some of them did might have helped. The concept was unique and presented well. Nice stuff!

Reckless Deliverer by OlekSUNder 2023-05-06T05:05:26Z

I liked the fast-paced action. I found a simple way to cheat the speed mechanic by repeatedly moving in opposite directions to stay in place while I try to aim packages at the targets. A suggestion would be to make the "zones" more obvious, because I thought I was supposed to deliver to the mailboxes until I read the description here.

The style of the game is great, a good-looking 3D game!

Pier Boat Delivery by Vinicius Meireles 2023-05-03T03:14:04Z

Fun game! The only thing I found slightly frustrating was because of the camera angle, making timed jumps was hard especially on the alligators because you can't see when you touch the ground. (Others have mentioned similar things)

I liked how there was no waiting around, it was all action and respawns were fast. Made it fun to keep trying and improve.

Good stuff!

Dronazon by theMule 2023-05-03T03:47:42Z

Wow, that AI is no joke! The only times I could beat it were when it broke twice and stayed in the corner

The boxes were challenging to pick up because of how fast you move, and how your movement grinds to a halt if you touch the bottom of the screen.

But it's a fun, fast-paced duel and I liked the simple concept, but could have a high ceiling for skill expression. A chaotic but entertaining experience!

LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

Quest for Gold by Mordokay 2018-04-25T02:31:43Z

It was fun to play with other people! You did all this in the compo?! Pretty impressive.

I don't know why it took so long between dice rolls (was it letting other people take their turn?), it just slowed the game down a lot.

The graphics and audio were nice. Everything smoothly transitioned.

Nicely done!

Heartless Ninjas by King Kujito 2018-04-23T19:17:07Z

I always am intrigued by tower defense games. Maybe one day I'll make one :smirk:

Love the concept! It was a little hard for me to play it at first, but I thought the graphics were great and the music fit perfectly.

Brownie points for the time lapse video

Nice work!

Rocket Punch by piscythe 2018-04-25T02:21:37Z

Awesome idea!

If I were to state my one concern, it would be that there wasn't more things to interact with. I get that it's a game jam, but if you were to expand on it, that would be my advice.

The graphics and animations work well together, but I wish there was some music/SFX.

Nice work!

Rocket Punch by piscythe 2018-04-25T22:23:29Z

@piscythe Yep, I saw the UFO's, I tried to beat-em-up but I don't know if I was doing anything. (maybe that's one other thing that was missing, some sort of reaction to the punches to signify that it is stronger or weaker)

And yea, it's tough to implement lots of stuff in a game jam, I can't really blame anyone for that reason.

Thanks for taking the time to read my comment!

Pix Eliz Great Curse of the Cards by mat1er 2018-04-23T18:49:42Z

Love the idea!

I wish it was more noticeable to see which was left or right. I had to pause what I was doing to see what cards I could actually use in the situation, when I just wanted to glance over them to immediately know what I had in my arsenal.

I loved the amount of strategy that was involved. I had to really contemplate what I was getting myself into. The audio did a pretty good job at immersing me too.

Nice work!

Deadication by bcvery1 2018-04-23T17:55:13Z

Very interesting!

I liked exploring the map and seeing what I could do. Once I finally realized what was going on, I knew I utterly screwed up

I wish there was music or sounds.

Nice work!

Red and Black Wordly by ludum1118 2018-04-25T02:14:14Z

The concept is very interesting and it seems like you put a lot of effort into designing it. My only complaint is that it's a pretty complicated game, and not a lot of explanation for what I could do. Obviously some graphics here and there wouldn't hurt, but I can't blame you (or anyone for that matter).

Nice work!

Rock Reach Flag by willowblade 2018-04-25T01:59:07Z

I think there were a few bugs here and there, but it didn't bother me too much. My only real complaint is not having an easier way to select which action I want to do. I wish there were hotkeys or something easier than clicking a small little button. (maybe there was something and I just missed it). Also music and SFX would help.

The level design was great, the graphics were fine, the concept was cool (not really sure how it fits with the theme though), and everything played very smoothly.

Nice work!

DragTypist by Slashee the Cow 2018-04-25T01:48:08Z

Woops forgot to look at my score, but I got second place

It's a pretty tough game, I'm not the best typist and when it comes down to random letters, I think it makes it much more challenging (I almost wish it were words instead of letters).

The sounds and graphics fit very well with the themes you chose. Also the motion on screen looked smooth and nothing felt out of place.

Nice work!

Dyeswap by morphine 2018-04-23T18:23:18Z

Loved the graphics! Interesting concept too!

Card Royale by Ruoyu 2018-04-23T18:33:40Z

Interesting concept!

I wish it wasn't completely random. I played for a while but couldn't lose or win.

It was, however, very fun to click on the cards and it felt very smooth along with the fitting graphics.

Nice work!

I wanna get ripped fast!

Love the idea! I don't really have any suggestions, because I think it would defeat the original purpose of your game. Obviously if you were to expand on it you would have better graphics, but other than that, I don't know.

Nice work!

Ducks Hunter (Shooter + Racing) by StarzzDrak 2018-04-23T18:02:36Z

Wow!

My favorite part was just shooting the gun. (I wasn't really sure what to shoot, but it was really satisfying )

Honestly this is really good for a compo submission.

Nice work!

Shadow Cards by Matt Christian 2018-04-23T17:34:50Z

Sweet game. The minimalist art style fits well with the genres you chose. I wish I could have played more! (I know how hard level creation is)

If I were to be nit-picky, I would say that the difficulty level should increase a bit. I found it far too easy to avoid enemies, and found no reason to fight them. That being said I do realize that if you were to make one area different it could affect other aspects of the genres you chose.

The game feels very smooth. I enjoyed moving around and looking at my deck of cards. I think it was very important to my user experience.

Nice work!

Circuit Racers by SeaHam 2018-04-23T18:27:57Z

Couldn't really play it, but going off the graphics and sound it looks and feels amazing!

Nice work!

91' Evolution Football by Derek Volker 2018-04-23T18:40:10Z

Love the graphics and music!

I didn't really hear any sound effects (maybe cause the music was too loud), which would have helped in my opinion. The game play is a big jagged, but I don't think that's a big concern considering it was a compo submission. With a little work it could become a go-to soccer game!

The animations really sold it for me. It felt very nice to just move around.

Nice work!

The Play Ground by LegionZ_Gaming 2018-04-23T18:10:48Z

The first thing I did was launch out of the cannon and got stuck in the building

There's a lot of potential, and I have lots of ideas of how I think it could improve (i.e. animations, sounds, music, etc.), but I think this works perfectly fine for a compo submission, and I had a blast exploring your world.

Nice work!

Shoot the Notes by minirop 2018-04-23T19:28:40Z

I appreciate the effort you put into this. When I saw that you had only put 6 hours into I was also impressed.

Maybe I missed something, but I couldn't quite get the shooting notes thing to work.

However I did like the graphics and music (albeit a bit repetitive). It gave off a unique vibe that I liked.

Nice work!

Black-Crops: Tactical Farming by JaredEvans_Neumont 2018-04-23T17:46:51Z

I love the genres you chose! Hilarious!

It was a little confusing at first, but once I understood what you needed to do, I saw a lot of potential to what I could do.

I wish there was more variety to what each character could do, but that's a very small complaint.

The graphics looked great, and the animations fit well with the game.

Nice work!

Stoical Domination by Colin Misbach 2018-04-23T19:05:33Z

@ben-hopkins Yea, I see where you are coming from. It's not 100% determined by click speed, however. I limited the amount of clicks you can collect crystals (.2 seconds, so you could collect a maximum of 25 crystals per second). I didn't want it to be all about click speed, but I also wanted to make the player feel like they were doing something.

Thanks for your opinion!

Stoical Domination by Colin Misbach 2018-04-23T21:33:13Z

@bitjester-media What?! You beat my unbeatable AI  jk

Yea, I really wanted to implement that too, but I just had far too many more pressing matters.

It's a great idea, thanks!

Stoical Domination by Colin Misbach 2018-04-25T01:14:38Z

@Flameo326 Yes, you have completely a completely valid suggestion. I knew I needed to make it so you could tell if you selected troops or not. The bottom line was I just didn't have enough time.

Thanks for your opinion.

Stoical Domination by Colin Misbach 2018-04-25T01:19:57Z

@slashee-the-cow Yep, valid point. The first asset I created was the ground, and what I had in mind at the time was I was going to make other assets to put on top of the ground, but I just never got around to it do to time constraints. And what I ended up with was a green rectangle that someone took a shit on

I had a lot of ideas to give a helping hand to beginners, but they take a decent amount of work, and I just needed a game first. I can see how you might think "hey he's getting crystals, why not me?", and just adding some tool-tip to show you can mine your own crystals would help a lot.

P.S. I did have a help screen in game (pressing escape), but I should have had one on the home menu too.

I appreciate your compliments. The music was sort of a last minute thing, and I just basically went with the first good sounding thing I made :smirk:

Thank you!

Stoical Domination by Colin Misbach 2018-05-03T01:47:06Z

@riordan You make some very valid observations. The genres I chose were definitely supposed to be contradictory, as that is what the theme of the jam was. I'm glad you thought they worked well together, I think so too.

I do understand that 10 seconds is not a lot of time, but I felt if I gave more time per turn it could potentially drown the turn based aspect that you mentioned. It's a hard balance that I didn't mess with... at all really.

I knew that I absolutely needed some better ways to show what you need to do with indicators and what not, but I really needed a game first, and my hope was that people could figure it out and once that was done, they could enjoy the other stuff I put all of my work into.

I'm not the best artist, and when rushed, you can't expect anything eye-catching. I'm not proud of the art I made, but I'm happy of what it let me do in other areas of my game.

Thanks for your opinion, I appreciate the kind words!

5ive 4 me, thr3e 2 u !1 - a turn-based platformer! by alferbayter 2018-04-25T02:07:29Z

Cool concept! It sort of turns that style of game into a more strategic version.

First thing that immediately stood out to me was the abrupt stopping/starting of the music when you died. It got very annoying (and on top of me dying a lot, it didn't help ).

It controls very well, and plays smoothly. For future reference, just use the a and d keys for moving, but I think lots of people will have that some complaint.

Nice work!

Deep Soul(TurnbasedPlatform) by Franz 2018-04-23T18:17:27Z

Interesting concept!

If I'm being honest, I felt like the addition of turrets just added a bit of randomness and it felt like there was nothing I could do (maybe I missed something). As for it being turn based, I don't really see where the turn part of it comes into play. It's more like phases.

That being said, I think the graphics looked great, and the game play was very smooth. I had a blast just navigating my way around your levels.

Nice work!

monoPlatform by TheGreenMan 2018-04-23T19:00:27Z

Love the concept!

While there is some strategy to placing traps and stuff, in the end it all comes down to luck of the roll, which I appreciated as a nod to monopoly.

If I'm being honest, it reminded me of how much I hate monopoly

The graphics, audio, and animations all fit together nicely and I had fun jumping around.

Nice work!
