LD25 — You are the Villain

Just Another by Willowblade 2012-12-21T00:11:00

Yeah sorry for that, I made a post on it but didn't post the text in my game description. I'd better do that. So sorry! I ran out of time to code the level progression which is really lame, I put way too much time in the geometry of my rotating sprites. So it's more of an engine than an actual game for now. Thank you for the feedback, and trying to run it. I forgot I actually left the .sh in there, I made it in Linux

LD26 — Minimalism

Dream Fishing by Sophie Houlden 2013-05-02T21:57:00

Somehow when I caught that fish and it did its thing, I got urges to boot up a random episode of Adventure Time.

Great design, great little gem. Very relaxing.

LD38 — A Small World

A Cage of Love by Quetzakol 2017-05-07T10:56:58Z

Really cute and quite unique!

It was fun to play and progress through the story. Also the game became more difficult towards the end, mostly due to the slow movement, but it was never unfair.

Sometimes the artstyle clashed though, the house and characters are detailed and have a certain style wich the environments lacked.

Overall a cool and quirky idea, I like it!

AS Mall World by Sean S. LeBlanc 2017-05-07T10:21:19Z

It's a shame that you can't rate the title, because it's pretty clever!

I really liked the mood and the weird colorful artstyle, and throwing money at stuff is always fun.

The only downside is that i didn't feel like there really was a 'point'? Or maybe that's just me.

Overall fun idea.

Snake On A Plane by spacedoubt 2017-05-07T12:47:46Z

A fun take on the snake concept!

Sometimes it was difficult to know where you exactly are due to the camera, maybe a mini map or something similar would be a nice addition.

But i enjoyed it, would definitely play again to beat my score =) Also + humor points for the title!

A Game with Bees by x1212 2017-05-07T13:23:24Z

At first i didn't really understand what i was supposed to do but after going to the comments i got the hang of it a bit. Maybe some in game explanation would help?

But this is a very happy and cute game and the idea is quite original and as well! The music was funny and fit perfectly. The weather changes were a good addition too.

Well done!

Electric Space Jelly by inventroom 2017-05-07T13:07:00Z

I love the colours in this game, gives it a spacey feel. The hand drawn pictures are cool too. Also the music was unique and set the mood right!

I liked the fact that you can move the planet around, but unfortunately that did not give me alot of tactical advantage haha

The lack of variation is a downside though, and the fact that the asteroids dont hurt the squid is strange, but on the other hand that could make the game really hard.

Overall, a very nice game for a gamejam!

Little Scout by Tex Killer 2017-05-07T11:56:33Z

This game had a really good feel to it and a lot of potential! When the tutorial was over i wanted more! But alas.

I especially liked the animation and artsyle, the music fit the theme too.

You should continue this project, it's really fun. =)

LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

Disintegrate by zenmumbler 2017-12-07T18:23:48Z

Not working on Firefox on Arch. Worked in Chromium though! Also after finishing there's no retry option, E told me I couldn't go back, not now. As others have said, great atmosphere, and I normally feel queasy in these games, but I actually finished this. Very functional layout, too. Cool that this is your own framework, too!

Disintegrate by zenmumbler 2017-12-07T19:20:42Z

Got this: SyntaxError: missing ; before statement [Learn More] stardazed.js:5865:295

It's this line: effect.flattenFunction=flattenFunction;})(effect=render.effect||(render.effect={}));})(render=sd.render||(sd.render={}));})(sd||(sd={}));var sd;(function(sd){var render;(function(render){var effect;(function(effect){effect.registerModule({name:"grading/srgb/lofi",provides:["ConvertSRGB"],code:`vec3 srgbToLinear(vec3 colour){return colour*colour;}

GameJam Survival Simulator by VicoViper 2017-12-06T12:49:59Z

I could feel the character's stress as he was trying to finish the game, but I managed to complete it after a few times! Cool game jam sim and kudos for doing this in such a short time.

A subtle bug I noticed was that if you select a long option which ends the game, the option's wait is still active so there's no pressing retry right after dying for all options. I thought it had crashed at first.

Bit Swapper by Galan 2017-12-06T14:14:42Z

Pretty cool, and thanks for the linux build! We made something similar but our goal is controlling two ships with one player, which seems to have given me practice for playing your game :D cool mechanic! I'd love to see how you implemented your bullets etc in Godot, and what made your performance tank after five minutes, as we also had performance issues with our naive bullet implementation at first.

Tempus Fugit by Elmeri 2017-12-06T14:25:42Z

When I finish the game (by standing on top of the king) and killing the game, the quote comes on (which is great) but all the sound effects are still enabled and no further feedback is given for whether I did in fact beat the game. You can try setting set_process(false) or something to toggle this easily!

The text at the start was genuinely funny but the typos were a shame. I love silly games :). Also I'm not sure how the theme was intended to fit?

The time rewind was really cool! Would it also work for enemies or is that currently not implemented?

Tempus Fugit by Elmeri 2017-12-10T15:12:07Z

Hey @elmeri and @siqn, don't give up on getting ratings, make some posts, give a lot of ratings yourself, etc. I've always regretted my unscored games.

what-doesn't kill you gets stronger by kerneltt 2017-12-07T19:36:41Z

The poke is fun but more feedback on the poking could have gone a long way, like a bit of knockback on the rat or some particles. I also managed to get my character of the screen in the lower right corner after a while. There's no real knowledge of how strong the rats get at the moment, which might also be a small effort but have great rewards. A health bar or so.

Headstuck by fullmontis 2017-12-07T20:12:00Z

Funny death mechanic! Some thoughts were out of place when they stayed and could be used, totally out context but leading to normal replies from the girl, such as the sorry and the traffic one. But I seriously enjoyed the powerless ending :D

Kitchen Things by wrexialmt 2017-12-06T13:06:13Z

I found the controls not all that responsive trying to make the meals, I think another programmer could have maybe polished/expanded upon the controls and UIs etc, but I guess you're working on fixing that now? Or is it fixed already? When will the new build be playable?

It's clear that it's a work of love that you all had fun making this together, which counts the most! It has such a cool and arcadey vibe to it. Doing the room in a similar colorful cartoony style would have made it better too, in my opinion. Hyped to see your work in the next jam!

Smartphone Nightmare by gdquest 2017-12-07T12:26:50Z

Hey Nathan, as always nice art! Very crisp and interested in Affinitity Designer now. Shame the gameplay is a little bare but still a very respectable entry.

Radiant Barrels by x1212 2017-12-09T15:59:36Z

That Nuclear Euphoria track is absolutely awesome! Like a distored House of the Rising Sun at first, then totally exploding. I love it. The game could have been a lot more clear on the how and the why, and I did have rather poor performance on Linux (Arch x64), and might have done better with a drop-off point for the waste, a different mechanic. Also, I assumed Return meant Enter but I don't have a numpad on my laptop so I couldn't drop off the waste.

There's also a bug where the moment I started the game, I got attacked right away by the closest ship?

I can't put my finger on it, but I did sail through the entire song. There's something so raw about what you made, it's intriguing all the same, and awesome in that.

One last remark: the landing page here isn't really appealing. I stumbled on this page before, but, especially given no web build was available, was hesitant on trying it out, not in the least due to the toxic colors in the screenshots. I find more people should experience what you made, also so you can get a ranking, so maybe a single screenshot could serve better than four?

Be Yourself by Noa Calice 2017-12-03T22:47:02Z

Awesome stuff :)

Tendril by NykolaR 2017-12-06T13:52:54Z

Pretty fun, panicked when the fifth one spawned and I mixed up green/yellow at the zoom level. Glad to see another Godot game ;)

SquidBoy & StarFace by willowblade 2017-12-06T10:40:43Z

Controller support is indeed implemented! You can use either the joysticks or DPAD + ABXY. We wanted to do voice acting, but finding someone musically inclined as a team member would help a lot with making that more of a priority in the project. Thanks for playing!

SquidBoy & StarFace by willowblade 2017-12-06T16:17:43Z

Thanks for the kind words, guys! There's always more difficulties to try beat, and normal should be doable using the overlap trick. I'm thinking of making the other ships move speed a bit different, or containing each ship to their half of the screen, as a way of forcing the player to separate their movement anyway. Thoughts?

SquidBoy & StarFace by willowblade 2017-12-09T15:42:46Z

Hey man, thanks for the feedback! I've also thought of giving them different speeds, or constraining them to different halves of the screen, to force the mechanic more.

Quantum's Rick by cortexdeveloper 2017-12-07T19:48:44Z

Siimple but fun :) took a while before I realised how to put time together again though... oops. I think the R&M fangame aspect added to it as well, as this was a fun episode :D and made for a goofy game mechanic

Get Out - LD40 by lcrabbit 2017-12-06T14:02:16Z

It would be better if dying just meant retrying the level, not the entire game from the start. I don't think it complements the dying due to falling in a pit, which is a core mechanic in trying to complete the level anyway.

Otherwise, I think it's a cool and well-scoped game, the art's very fun :)!

Greedy Balloon by maoap 2017-12-07T19:44:25Z

12 on my first try, noobs! Muahaha.

In all seriousness, fun game! Reminds me of phone games, but in a good way, the ones I fondly remember playing. A bug I noticed is that when you drop a gold bar on a mountain, it gets dragged by the screen edge before disappearing. I lost half of my health thinking I could Mario the birds, only after realising I lost 10 HP each time :(

Evil Money by interpol 2017-12-07T19:16:07Z

Good job! I found the levels have a surprising feel of finish and playtesting, the way some things just worked or seemed to be really designed. The web build also runs flawlessly!

Space War Never Ends by X Budsterized X 2017-12-06T14:33:51Z

It's fun and I like the timing part, but I felt like the hitbox on the player was a bit too large for it to feel fair. Making the hitbox smaller but giving more variation to the bullet spreads could be way to explore this idea further. The UI is horrible but I found that only adds to the charm, and it does have an abundance of that. All in all, good job!

BaBaDungeon by PanPan 2017-12-06T14:07:01Z

Fun basic TD, but it does feel like it could use an additional polishing run to balance things out.

Cargotastrophe by Pixelectric 2017-12-07T12:57:59Z

Fun game! The messages could have been a bit more in your face as they were a fun addition. Also with the items staying so close to the base there was no real reason to stray far. Of course, you know all these things! Very fluid gameplay, and the compass is an excellent feature!

LD42 — Running out of space

Space Scrap! by Alex Lutay 2018-08-16T17:01:29Z

Cool take on the meteors destroying parts of the ship. And like people have said, ah-ma-zing graphics. For the next jam, you might want to focus on thinking from a player first approach, though that is of course the hardest. Small tooltips go a long way.

We tried to make a first person experience of taking care of your meteor-stricken ship, you might enjoy it!

Gold Eater by Finlal 2018-08-16T16:35:44Z

Love love love the graphics and the polish. I though the enemies weren't really visually communicating that they were enemies or hazardous objects, which together with not really being sure what's happening made for some stupid/unfair deaths. The different terrain types and patterns make for an interestingly deep puzzle though!

Running out of Space by digital bacon 2018-08-16T16:57:27Z

I had a good laugh with trying to elegantly move the crates :D overall I think this could have used some more polish of your core functionality.

Anstorm by ShivArt 2018-08-16T16:25:50Z

Loved the entirety of how your map worked, and how each level had a different pattern of overlapping. Design wise, I found the orbs to have little functionality at the start of the levels, with their shooting having no positive gameplay effects, thus not rewarding their shooting. This in itself is not a bad thing, but it made me avoid shooting them as much as possible.

Issue I encountered: when I lost it still said WIN.

Something I loved was restarting at the last level you unlocked. It's a really cool mechanic to put in a jam game to make people see the end of it.

As others have said, the art is very crisp for the timeframe. Good job!

Bloated Garbage! by Bonyok77 2018-08-16T16:45:10Z

Loved the particles but the game was rather boring, the speedup curve was too fast, I relaxed before I noticed it sped up insanely. The 2P war mode was weird!

LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

Robocalypse: Xtreme Pool Master by Devastus 2018-04-25T01:06:10Z

Your comment above summarizes my quirks while playing the game! I'll play the POST version to see what you changed tomorrow :). Really cool concept and great art! It's well executed gameplay wise, just UI/UX could be better.

ELECTROLIFE 2097 by neontropics 2018-04-24T22:49:41Z

Really surprised by the atmosphere here. The chill music, the seemingly random terrain, the filter, and the very alienating electrolife and gameplay, really impressive! Hope to be able to combine those skills as well one day :) What filter/shader did you use, if I may ask?

ELECTROLIFE 2097 by neontropics 2018-04-24T23:35:56Z

@neontropics Cool, thanks! I'd love to do more technical art stuff like this in the future but come from very far :)

Space Maths by mikedirl 2018-04-24T12:11:17Z

Awesome game! Though I found being able to skip gates making the game quite a bit easier, with the energy not running out quickly enough to motivate choosing gates faster. I had some weird issues regarding bullets not colliding with a gate, probably framerate related?

I'd also reduce the amount of bullets required to hit a gate, or increase the player's horizontal movement speed, as I fell short of shooting gates often, and 3 just feels like an arbitrary amount.

Nice job!

Raceman by Jose Pedro Dias 2018-04-25T00:16:53Z

I liked the tricky controlls. I picked the large orb and thought I could kill the orange car, but I crashed D:. Nice mashup! Would never have thought of something like this but it clicks.

土星の台頭 - Saturn Rising by p-r 2018-04-25T00:46:50Z

I think you've got some interesting things going on! Having the goat mecha stomp around on another gravity plane, for example ;). Nice job doing this in Phaser! Did you like the development experience? The wall-placing character's walls would be better if they could be removed, and I also didn't find how I could properly use the mine character :(. You've already gotten a lot of suggestions in the comments above though which I won't repeat :). Cool!!!

Very Realistic Waiter Simulator by Nathalia Hohl 2018-04-24T23:02:37Z

Did you try making a web build? If yes, how did that work out? I made a web build for my Godot game and it works great, I highly recommend using it for jams!

As for the game, it's good to see where you cut corners without compromising the final prototype, good job! Graphics are sweet and very functional. I do think the game could be more interesting if instead of single customers spawning with increasingly short fuses, spawning more customers at a time or in waves could possibly be more interesting gameplay wise. It reminded me of the first Spongebob episode where all the sardines come in buses and want to eat, and are getting really mad.

(PS the guy spawning right of the counter gets me every damn time!)

Rock Reach Flag by willowblade 2018-04-24T14:33:11Z

Thanks! Observing friends play, for some it clicks, others have a harder time, I'm glad you were able to finish it regardless. So I just discovered minutephysics, and I see what you mean! For me it's more reminiscent of Line Rider ^^

Rock Reach Flag by willowblade 2018-04-24T23:11:51Z

@aplite Thanks for the kind words (and offending my handwriting)! Where did you experience the wait crashing you?

Rock Reach Flag by willowblade 2018-04-24T23:14:03Z

@JezPez I think it's because physics may still be broken in the web build, are you on Firefox? Don't forget to enjoy the replays guys

Rock Reach Flag by willowblade 2018-04-24T23:19:35Z

@incobalt Thanks! I'll take more care with my handwriting next time , and look into how to register touchpad scroll events!

Rock Reach Flag by willowblade 2018-04-24T23:21:56Z

@seurimas Thanks! Try downloading a desktop version, that should have stable physics, or try to play in Chrome? What browser are you currently playing in?

@Siuler LM I actually got a few of my IRL friends requesting more levels and made one with a colleague for lunch break today. I'd love to, so you can follow my page on itch for updates?

Rock Reach Flag by willowblade 2018-04-24T23:38:40Z

@aplite What browser? I wish threads were a thing in these comment sections.

Rock Reach Flag by willowblade 2018-04-29T12:34:01Z

@aplite The wait issue is so strange, I can't even imagine what's causing it! There are other issues in Chrome where it supposedly acts like the escape key is pressed, pretty annoying. I hope the web exports in Godot become more stable in the future!

@colin-misbach the two 'incompatible genres' I tried to combine were a platformer, which is normally reaction and reflex based, with the planning and pace of something more akin to a turn-based game.

Thanks for the great feedback you all  ! Music and SFX are definitely my weakness, I've only made one game with them, hah! If I polish this up and add a few more levels, I'll work on my handwriting and the action selection UI/UX as well.

Pinplat by svyatozar 2018-04-24T22:29:44Z

Cool game and polished execution! I think the system would shine if you had more of the pinball inputs laying around, now I experienced a lot of downtime waiting, where I think the platforming elements could benefit from a more active game, since all your ways of controlling the ball are already pinball related.

Cool to see another Godot game :) can't wait to nose in your source

Think Before Escape by acoto87 2018-04-25T01:02:14Z

I made [a similar game](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/rock-reach-flag) with a different take on the pause-and-play platforming, in a more simultaneous-turn-based platformer manner. But gosh your graphics are great! I'm echoing sentiments, but I really liked the smart aerial positioning at the end of a timelapse to avoid enemies on the floor.

Kawaii? by Darkfire92 2018-04-23T13:18:11Z

Fun game! I didn't play past stage six since you figure out the optimal mechanic (stand still and mash everything once it's in a certain place) pretty fast, but it's clear to see you put a lot of work in the graphics in this one! Very かわいい

World Bender by aplite 2018-04-25T00:09:18Z

Same remark as Dixonary, the controls sadly get in the way of this and would benefit from being more 'crisp' and less floaty, but I completed it! Would be cool if your character's representation switched to a sprite! It took a bit before I realised the solution to the last level, but it was really satisfying once it clicked! Probably one of the more unique/involving games this jam!

Teeny Tailors by Bobo Games 2018-04-25T01:39:10Z

The little guys were adorable. I was so impressed I looked at all of your portfolios! The game flow was kinda slow with the actions costing health, but I understand that it would have otherwise been too easy. Good job on the programming, I didn't encounter any bug (except calling the health mana when there's not enough of it?)

Tetris shooter by RaccoonLudos 2018-04-25T01:53:12Z

Great to see another Godot game! I too think you could make the game more fun by making the movement feel more responsive, making the ship a bit smaller perhaps?

Putt-Kill by JezPez 2018-04-24T23:56:46Z

Great! I liked how I actually finished it, instead of it going on forever. That's worth something in jam games! The genres work together really well. Are you going to continue work on it? Followed you on itch regardless.

Only issue I had was I could full-speed panic through a guard and not die.

Love and Hate in Hell Café by Siuler LM 2018-04-24T23:48:09Z

This was fun! I think if I'd improve anything, first thing would be the title page ;). There were lots of small touches regarding the "blue spirit" but actually seal waiters that made me smile, which is awesome! The angels & demons telling their love stories to the waiters, the waiters picking up the angels/demons. Their payday which showed how cheap they are as laborers, haha! Awesome job!

PROTECT by Maloy Quinn 2018-04-25T01:11:55Z

The Balrog seems to have a very broken collision. I'd also go for bigger enemy bullets, because those few white pixels came out of nowhere for me. Could you add some screenshots here? I'm not sure if my game is looking like it should, all zoomed in.

Fun concept in feeling helpless when you can only shoot up :D I think you pulled off the hybrid well.

PROTECT by Maloy Quinn 2018-04-25T01:27:37Z

@maloyquinn It is more zoomed in on my screen, yes, as described by @serpentworks-games which is the web build in Firefox on a full screen, so there shouldn't be any resolution problems. Oh well, I can place it better with the screenshots :D is the blurring of the main character intentional?

READY SET DRESS! by SHINBAXTER 2018-04-25T00:36:24Z

Really cool! The AI started totally destroying me shortly after I knew how to win a round. I think it's really well made and polished, crazy that you made this in such a short time!

Kingdom Crush by Hannah19 2018-04-25T00:29:17Z

Funny for sure! The TD part is hard the first few enemies (wish I used a fast tower somewhere) but once you have ten cannon towers in a row nothing gets past. The wizard dialogue repeated once she had already retreated her forces, might be a small bug? Are you guys making more VNs?

Kingdom Crush by Hannah19 2018-04-25T01:19:21Z

@Hannah19 That'd be cool to see! Love the profile picture ;)
