That is a lot of fun. I think the balance was just right for me, where I did ok but felt I could get better. It felt like there was always just the right amount of time for me to react. The art turned out great too, I like the curviness to the characters and props. I'm glad you powered through and kept up the streak despite the challenges!

That was great fun. I had a bit of a time in the beginning but then I figured it out. Thanks for the play, you did a good job considering the conditiions

A little difficult (I have slow reflexes) but really fun. I always like to see someone take a simple game and make it fun rather than trying to make a complex game that ends up being held together with duct tape.

ryusui 2023-05-06 05:18

Deceptively simple. Gets *very* tense the further on you get - those ghosts mean business! (Or loss of business, in this case! XD)

I'm mixed on the lack of audio - the SFX we *do* get does its job nicely, but I'm not sure whether the lack of music contributes to the overall spookiness or just leaves the soundscape feeling empty.

Other than my quibbles on the lack of music, this - despite its simplicity - is easily one of the most complete, polished, and balanced-feeling games I've played this Ludum Dare so far. I love the mechanic and I love the animations you have going with the ghosts. (Also - very much appreciate that you did not make being touched by the ghosts an instant game over. This would have been a *much* different game otherwise!)

Fun game! Those sure are some greedy ghosts :ghost:. I think a dodge mechanic with WASD controls could make the gameplay just a tad more complex/satisfying (basically just some way to deal with the ghosts). But I appreciate the simplicity. It is a solid game, looks good, doesn't overstay its welcome, and has a pretty addicting game loop.

Loved it!

Cool game, simple to learn and builds up difficulty without being too crazy. The delivery boy deserves a raise

Hey thanks for playing my game and leaving useful feedback! I played yours on my stream, VOD here if you're interested: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1818480653

pkenney 2023-05-13 01:46

@weeping-rupee oh hell yes I am interested! Nothing like a vid of a cold first-play live reaction to get a sense of how a game lands. Written feedback is great, too, of course, but those vids like you made are gold. Many thanks!

this was really nice! you made mechanically very simple gameplay interesting and fun and fit to the theme, the difficulty curve was very well adjusted and everything was communicated clearly with zero text. I think all those are things to be proud of. got through with 8 success and 2 money taken

Oof rough to hear about that schedule conflict and coming down with a cold, I've been in that position it's tough to actually get a game out, let alone one that actually runs and is fun. I originally wasn't feeling this game, but I will admit the more I played the more and more I was interested and the more and more fun I was having. By the end I was laughing and dodging and it was really enjoyable.

The gameplay was so simple, but felt satisfying and not boring. As I mentioned at the beginning I didn't quite understand it or what the difficulty is, but the more I played and the more ghosts came in, the more interesting and engaging it was. The sweet spot for me was around the 2/3 to 3/4 mark, with the ghosts being busy enough to make dodging them a real challenge, but not too busy that it felt overwhelming or unfair as the last few did. The first ghost actually came right out of the blue, almost impossible to dodge

The graphics were definitely different from what I was expecting, I was surprised seeing a pkenney game so loose and cartoony but I agree with the description, pixel art would not have made much sense. I think you managed to keep everything really clear whilst keeping a distinct style and aesthetic. I maybe would have liked a bit more feedback or excitement, but I understand with the situation that's a bit hard. Audio wise as well, what was there fit, but maybe a few more effects could have fleshed it out more.

Overall this was fun, and took me a while but I did get hooked. It was surprisingly skillful and tested my ability to remember where things were and my reactions! Definitely an example of a simple gameplay loop done well and done effectively, nice work! (And hope you managed to rest up from the cold afterwards)

An interesting game. It would be more convenient for me to move with the mouse button held down, not just when clicking. I still didn't understand if it was possible to take money or pizza from the ghost ( The customers are scary, I didn't dare approach him right away) After all the orders, I didn't understand what the buttons meant, I chose the left one, I think there will be the next level, but the game is over.

This is really, really great! A fantastic balance of difficulty here, and I had some really nice "oh!" moments as I realised certain things about the game. It's really difficult to convey the controls and gameplay without words, but you did a bang-up job, well done

gamescodedogs 2023-05-16 08:33

Nice and fun, and even addictive. If you'll continue to work on it, it can become a good big game!

epb9000 2023-05-17 08:05

I got inspired to make a creepy ambient loop.

Anyway, nice level of polish, though I couldn't quite figure out how the ghosts actually behaved, so I mostly just mad-dashed to the customers, haha. Pretty impressive to be able to communicate the rules without words.

mark-a-pressler 2023-05-19 16:52

Really fun and well balanced! I feel like it's tough to make enemies whose movements are predictable enough that you can dodge them, but not so much so that evading them is trivial, and I think you found just the right balance. I played all the way through and really enjoyed it, very nice job. The biggest thing that I think would elevated it would be some spooky delivery music!

corrupt-spaghetti 2023-05-19 19:11

Very fun and unique game! It would be nice to have a button to exit the game during gameplay

pkenney 2023-05-20 16:28

@epb9000 wow you NAILED it! Totally got the vibe right, that's awesome! Thanks so much for taking the effort! If I can snag some free time I'll upload a rev that adds your music... I'll at you if I do.

Some good background music was absolutely lacking here, so this is so cool.

epb9000 2023-05-21 18:35

@pkenney Haha, thanks! For legality's sake: I release that creepy loop into the public domain. So you (or anyone else) may use it as you see fit. :)

I was kinda sad I ran out of time and couldn't make music for my game, so when I played this I was like "Ok, I have to now" haha
