Any Tipps? This game is cool, I just don't understand the enemy routes ^^ But I really like the Idea and the gameplay (just sprinting looks weird and enemies as well as the merchant are a bit slow)

Is there a system behind enemy routes or is it random?

geraldfingburke 2018-04-23 15:53

I was really impressed with this. The seeming randomness of the spotlights was a little bit frustrating. But you've struck an incredible balance, forcing players to weigh their security against their mobility. Very clever.

king-kujito 2018-04-23 16:21

@leorid If I understand it correctly: you're asking me how I tackled enemy paths, right? I put up way points at every corner, once an enemy reaches those corners, they chose the next possible corner to move towards. They will never fall back though. They will always try to progress towards the castle.

king-kujito 2018-04-23 16:23

@GeraldFIngBurke Thank you. Are you referring to the movement of the search lights when you say 'random' or something else?

geraldfingburke 2018-04-23 16:37

@King Kujito Yes. I had a hard time timing my route because I couldn't figure out where the lights were going to be.

king-kujito 2018-04-23 16:43

@GeraldFIngBurke I see, that makes a lot of sense. Unfortunately I don't like my game enough to find the motivation to make another patch but I'll definitely take your advise with me for future projects.

geraldfingburke 2018-04-23 16:58

God no! If you start fixing everything on a jam game you'll shoot yourself in the foot. The game was great as it was. I was just looking for critique points.

svenfrankson 2018-04-23 17:38

Kinda hard to play, but nevermind it's a great entry ! Polished graphics, nice sounds... Well done !

john-darrington 2018-04-23 18:37

You've hit on something pretty freaking cool here. Building up a tower defense that you can still beat, but the PC can't is genius. You're fighting against the computer on two different things, it's a great mashup and I feel it hits the theme very very well. Very impressed with how much you got done - I'd seriously run with this idea.

colin-misbach 2018-04-23 19:17

I always am intrigued by tower defense games. Maybe one day I'll make one :smirk:

Love the concept! It was a little hard for me to play it at first, but I thought the graphics were great and the music fit perfectly.

Brownie points for the time lapse video

Nice work!

maloy-quinn 2018-04-24 11:35

Spectacular! I’m humbled at this masterpiece of a game.

wskilljoy 2018-04-24 11:38

Super impressive! Definently flesh this out more.

mau 2018-04-24 11:43

Great game!. I found that it's easy to place chokepoints to kill all the enemies before they can reach the rice, however I cannot deliver rice for the same reason XD

lumos 2018-04-24 11:45

Interesting concept. Unfortunately, the HTML5 build suffered from terrible performance on my end, especially when having to move through the first line of defence. Graphics and audio are a good fit. Game looks and feels like it has potential for further expansion.

king-kujito 2018-04-24 15:17

@Lumos could you go into more detail? On my MacBook (nowhere near gaming pc stats) I get decent performance. Only in stealth sections do I get 30-60 fps. Inside the Unity editor I had a drop to14 or 20 a couple of times.

If you would mind telling me your OS and where you ran into performance issues, it would help me out a lot. Thanks :-)

lumos 2018-04-24 15:55

@King Kujito: Sure, but it might've been a false alarm. Win 10, Firefox. I tried it on Chromium too, and aside from a few hitches here and there, it worked a lot better. Guess it must've been Firefox being annoying again...

king-kujito 2018-04-24 20:31

@Lumos Thanks for the response. I've heard about firefox screwing with unity games before.

djeycreations 2018-04-26 18:38

Nice one, buddy! It was not easy to understand at first but I figured out =)

those-30-ninjas 2018-04-26 18:55

I like the combination of genres. I got lost trying to deliver my rice but then I remembered the castle acts as a pretty good landmark when you get lost lol. There wasn't a lot of feedback of when your towers were attacking. Some sounds or something would be nice. Cool entry.

king-kujito 2018-04-26 23:34

@those-30-ninjas thanks for the feedback. I fully agree. I wanted to give some audio feedback but unfortunately hadn't the time to do so. :-( that's LD I guess

paulhocker 2018-04-27 04:24

its amazing how much you got accomplished here - it is really a great concept for a game - thanks for making it - only problem was that it playe d a little slow - not sure if that was intended

king-kujito 2018-04-27 16:23

@paulhocker are you talking about frame rate or something else? Either way, would you mind going into more detail about what the problem was in your experience? thanks :-)

eduardo-scheffler 2018-04-27 17:18

Great combination of genres. I was a bit confused at first, but I got the idea and I liked it a lot! Congratulations😁

advd 2018-04-27 18:32

Great idea, I like how it first tests your strategy and then tests you memory and orientation. The music is also very fitting, good job!

jin9310 2018-04-28 14:22

Really like the idea of stealth tower defense. Really cool. The game overall would need some polish, I guess that is a fair point, but I think you have a nice potential here. Also thumbs up for the music! Good job.

nilstastic 2018-04-28 17:39

Nicely done, music was nice and put you (me) in the mood for sneaking. Good work!

secretpocketcat 2018-05-01 11:59

The idea of sneaking through your own defenses is super cool and it's a nice touch that the player can sell their units. (Potential cheese - place units to slay enemies and then remove them at the very last minute (at least remove from from 1 path) for the merchant to just breeze through. The music sets the setting really well.

Gripes/suggestions (on Chrome, Win 10, decent specs - i5, 8 gig of RAM, GXT 950M): * the run animation was super buggy for me and it rarely worked * the merchant mode was running poorly - low FPS * lack of feedback from the towers - I'm not at all sure how effective my towers were as some enemies passed through and some just kinda dropped dead * arrows for camera control were pretty annoying * does the merchant mode have to be 3D at all? I'd probably prefer to have it topdown, but that might be just me

The foundation is great. If you work on it further, it could really become something special.

king-kujito 2018-05-01 12:15

@SecretPocketCat thanks for the feedback. I knew about the run animation but hadn't the time to fix it (it was my first time using the Unity Animator component instead of the Animation component). Your last point is very good, topdown could've been more effective indeed.

secretpocketcat 2018-05-01 12:32

@king-kujito No worries. I just hope I don't sound too critical - the more I like something, the more I tend to critise it and come up with my own designs  If you decide on doing an revamped version, I'd love to see the result.

As for the Animator - I have to get into that myself. I pretty much use dotween for everything, which can get messy quite easily and I should probably look at the default Unity toolset to be able to mix and match...
