LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

NIGHT CLICKER by smaganik 2018-04-25T02:19:47Z

Loved the mood and the concept. The balance between mechanics was very interesting. I found myself staring at the bottom bars a little too much, maybe a UI closer to the center of the screen (ala Portal) might let the player keep an eye on the 3D area while still being informed of what the 2D UI shows.

Spellbowl by Excy 2018-04-23T22:16:41Z

Cool little mash-up of genres. I agree with some of the other users that even after reading the help, page, and playing a round I couldn't figure out what to do. BUT, when I did and understood the combination of genres I found it to be a unique and smart genre blend. I also liked the art within the game.

Just two little things that might make the game easier to understand. 1) Maybe changing the sprite when the player is holding it outside the castle (if it's a spell) to cross it out or show that is incorrect. 2) It might be easier to bowl if there were a few miliseconds after releasing the button before the spell jumped back into the card slots; quite a few bowling attempts were thwarted by a very short stop I was making due to the play area size.

Nice work on your first LD!

Crafty by Brackeys 2018-04-24T17:27:23Z

Great little game; loved the sense of wonder and discovery the game has for such a simple concept. It almost reminded me of a 'reverse text adventure' where the images were building the location and setting in my mind instead of words. One change I would consider for future addition is to make single clicking an item either automatically return to the 'inventory' or jump into an open combination slot if one is available.

Match & Shoot by joekinglake 2018-04-23T16:58:26Z

Great job Joe! I like the core loop of shooting and finding ammo while having to strategize which colors to shoot. The timer really helps the sense of having to make quick decisions with what blocks to pop. Also, while the audio seemed a little basic to me at first, I appreciated the throwback to classic FPS games like Unreal with the announcer, as well as the satisfying soft pop noise that the colored boxes make as they are destroyed.

Additionally, I felt at first that I didn't have enough ammo but after a few rounds it seemed O.K. in order to maintain that constant motion.

With a little tighter movement and maybe a faster paced standard run, I could find myself playing many levels of a full game of this.

Sketchbook Adventure by TangyBananas 2018-04-24T17:20:03Z

Great job team! I could absolutely see this being made into a longer experience. Loved the visuals especially in the book world. Again, very well done!

I thought the concept and implementation were executed pretty well. I think the best part is the way the jump scares work on a simple yet effective level. I agree with others that the mechanics of different colored enemies is cool; however I wished their colors were a little more prominent even when the lights were on (I assume the darkness causing their hard to read color is intended as a mechanic). Nice one!

Good work. I liked the art style and found it to be an interesting blend of genres. I also found the game feel of shooting and destroying an enemy to be really satisfying and well done! I think this game would expand well with a few other pickup types, maybe something that lets the player move "two for one" or little traps to avoid.

F.I.S.T.S (FIRST PERSON IDLE CLICKER SHOOTER HORROR TOWER DEFENCE SURVIVAL) by dimaswift 2018-04-23T17:18:31Z

Great look and concept! Very well done and a great way to use the theme. Love the art and aesthetic.

Run Away the Simulation by CapitanRetraso 2018-04-23T22:36:12Z

Good job, interesting idea and very unique to add that clicker to the platformer aspect. I found the game relatively easy but definitely had a few moments of looking at my hands to consider what to press next. The game has a good sense of urgency as you rush through even though I felt the audio could have used a little more work.

Match n Shoot by a_a 2018-04-25T01:48:45Z

I like the combination of these ideas, it really plays on the multitasking aspect of the brain and found it to be a really compelling way of approaching the theme.

Crescendo by VivianMochi 2018-04-23T22:42:46Z

Cool genre mix and really enjoy the art style. I couldn't get very far (got to the first orb) but I could see this being a full game of rage-inducing fun. Also love the smooth transition of the main menu into that loading screen and into the first level, nice little touches like that really improve the feel even without the player interacting with it.

Avenue Brawler 2.0 by Tom Cumpsty 2018-04-23T22:04:24Z

Fun little game! Music definitely stands out as a highlight of the game, and the sound effects throwing back to Street Fighter is a great touch.
