Great graphics game feel and concept, a bit hard to move aim and type, but fun. Would've been cool if pressing the key automatically aimed and shot so there is more focus on typing

Great graphics game feel and concept, a bit hard to move aim and type, but fun. Would've been cool if pressing the key automatically aimed and shot so there is more focus on typing
Graphics create a cohesive experience. My character kept moving down and off the screen, so that prevented me from playing longer than about a minute at a time. Its a great concept, with a little more work could be an awesome game! Well done!
Good concept, but move with the keyboard if you shoot with the keyboard probably isn't the better solution, if you move pressing the left button of the mouse (Like magicka) can be a better solution I think, but I like your game so much ^^
Pretty fun walking around shooting, I loved the little "sound" texts and how you present the letters and ammo left. Just wished it had some sounds and music! Movement seems a little iffy btw, doesn't move very smoothly.
Pretty neat! Would have benefited greatly from some sound effects and screenshake.
Got up to 150 until a zombie seemingly spawned right next to me? The difficulty could ramp up a bit faster. Except for that surprise zombie part.
@niksorvari I felt like that made it more difficult, you choosing whether or not to type or to move. Thanks for playing!
@Dekobii Thanks! That's a weird bug though. You tried switching between azerty or qwerty mode?
Pretty fun! Its pretty hard at first to get used to using the letters for shooting instead of the mouse especially with the wasd.
Quite challenging to master hitting all the keys whilst moving about, quite fun and definitely on theme!
Had a few zombies spawn right on top of me steal my health without being able to react though!
@Carvster yes, my bad about the enemies! That's a fix I already to my list. Enemies just spawn randomly. It's supposed to be challenging; shooting while trying to move, replacing fingers :D Glad you enjoyed it!
@noumenus you can switch to other keyboard layout by pressing enter!
A very nice game. Yes the controls are a little bit wonkey but this is a game jam, everything can't be perfect(just look at our disaster). My most favourite part is deffinetly the ui around the player. Very interesting :)
I love how you made the letter gun :D pretty fun concept. The graphics are nice, and the character controls good. It's nice that the letters that appear are close to your WASD hand. Nice attention to detail :)
The challenge of keeping up with movement, aiming and hitting the keys is really fun. Had some enemies spawn really closesly to me but overall its a great submission.
I played a lot of teaches typing games back in the day to learn to type and I think the world could use more fun games.
Overall it is a nice game and fun to play. The controls are a bit unpredictable though. :cold_sweat: My typing skills are horrible. The most attractive part of this game I'd say is the theme and graphics.
@soldierbear should be fixed now! @Ryan Bishop aggreed ;) @Subhajit Nath Thanks for playing!
Pretty innovative idea. I really like the fact that all the letters are on the left-hand side. One thing though, the letter V looks very similar to U, had me trying to type U for a while.
@ramon15749 Yea I was playing around with using all of the letters on your keyboard but ended up limiting them to easy reachable buttons. I get what yuo mean! Thanks for playing
Really nice use of screen shake especially with the weapons, which is reminiscent of Vlambeer, overall a fun game, but I did not know what I was supposed to do.
This is awesome. It clearly has an unfinished feel: no audio, no actual level, and it started lagging after some time... but I couldn't stop myself from keeping on. Fantastic job on the feel of the shots and hits, I had a really great time ! :) You need to continue this after the jam!
@TheLucky I must admit I rewatched jwaaaaps "the art of screenshake" before the jam ;)
The game was great, however I would have opted for a stationary character and with the enemies moving toward you constantly that would add just that little bit to this game. However I really think it's the sound that mostly holds this game back I know we have time constraints so here a good sound effect generator that is free an easy to use https://www.bfxr.net/. Music would also make the game feel more exciting here is another free tool you can use to make music https://boscaceoil.net/ both of the tools you can use in the browser or download and there really fun to mess with. Over all though you game is really cool I love how most the UI centers around the main character and you used Just the right amount of screen shake and visual effects, I did a bit to much in my game... Lastly I'd love it if you'd check out my game. If your feeling up to it here's the link: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/yum-some
I really appreciate the comment @frostByte4k . I firstly added the text effects for the soul reason of there being no sound and I figured adding no sounds / music instead of really bad sounds / music was the better choice. I understand sound would give it that extra dimension but the lack of time just made it impossible for to experiment around with some tools like the ones you've linked! I'll check it out!
Thanks I hope they can be of some use to you in the future, Good luck.
really liked this! sure its a simple "twin stick shooter" but i do like the different keys and the ammo count down to the key changes :) nice work! a little too basic on the art side, would have been nice if you'd got some sound fx in there for the gun :) over all good fun! :)
@Brendan Toy that was exactly what I was going for; a twin stick shooter with a twist! I wanted to implement some basic sound FX but wasn't able due to the lack of time! Appreciate you taking the time to check it out!
pretty cool idea, with the rotation of the shoot button like that. the only problem serious problem is that around 150/200 score it starts becoming a bit laggy and around 400 score it becomes completely unplayable. I have a feeling that perhaps your bullets are never destroyed and so the further you get into the game the more it struggles. You should preferably look at creating object pools for all of your objects, but if you didn't have time for object pooling you should at least destroy the objects so they don't persist in the scene and kill the frame rate. Other than that it was a fun game, well done :)
@Justin Thanks for the elaborate comment man! Bullets do get removed once they're at a certain distance away from you. However, zombies wonder off and might indeed be a problem once you get to a killcount of 400. I need to take a look at that!
Nice game! There isn't much challenge, but killing zombies is always fun.
It'c pretty easy, despite the controls being rather awkward. But hey, the controls are the entire purpose of the game, so i shouldn't complain.
nice concept, I think it needs for action and dynamics
@blobo yea I was going for that awkward feel  @ElusiveMilestone & @WalkDiGidong yep, that's something for the future!
It lacks an objective but is still pretty fun, and I love the cute graphics! The "Boooom" spawning next to me makes me feel powerful. Maybe just start with a pistol and gather / buy better guns? The difficulty would be greatly increased if ennemies would be attracted by the player.
Great work!
Haha, I liked that - very cool use of the theme!
It's a very well done entry! A bit easy though, maybe with more zombies chasing you or other types of zombies that do different things that just wander would be more entertaining? Don't know. But the game plays nice and animations are good :)
Really impressive for not using any library or framework! I think it would have been better if you didn't have to aim with the mouse, maybe just shoot in the direction you facing. The way it is now it's really hard to aim and type at the same time. Some sound would also have been nice of course. But like i said, really impressive! Well done!
Nice game, and impressive work, however I think some sounds and music would make it a lot better (I didn't hear any).
@ccglp & @NoNiMad I'll probably be making an improved version of this prototype with a more clear objective and a little bit more of a challenge. It was to hard at first  @Gurbx I''m thinking about using phaser in the future but I just love creating everything myself  @Jiri_One no time  Thanks all for playing my submission. Appreciated!
Game was a bit too easy, but it's a nice and well rounded game for a jam! With a couple more enemies and some music / sfx, this could be something really fun! Loved the text popups, reminded me of Tiny and Big.
Nice work, especially without libraries. I would like to see more roguelike elements - maybe a procedurally generated map which is regenerated on death, or the opportunity to pause and think about the best next action. On the other hand, there is another genre, the "run and gun" games, such as Bloody Wolf. If you were willing to describe it as a run-and-gun + typing game, then there might be less to do - some side scrolling and a little level design.
@kjeks damn I had never heard of that game! I love what they did with the text effects! @sugarbyte lack of time ;) But I'd like to work on it in the future!
Nice game! Really matches the theme!
AZERTY mode is really a really cool addition :) Nice little game, and I agree with people above, sounds and musics would make this some much better! And either no mouse control or no movement control make it less weird to control.
Good parts so far, but doesn't feel finished yet. I'd love to see a progression, where it gets harder over time, or has 'levels'/waves of enemies!
I have a suggestion. You should add a leaderboard. Overall fun experience but you have to fix the difficulty. In this state, it is a bit too easy. It definitely needs some badass or funky music and SFX as well.
Thanks guys. Appreciate you all playing it
@Radical Dog expanding this game is already on my todo list! @Max_Frankenstein Yea I'd love to add a leaderbord. Just gotta figure that out when I get to my todo list as mentioned above
Before I started playing the game, I thought that the game was going to be frenetic and very fast. However, most of the time I found myself staying still shooting the weapons because I couldn't press the buttons fast enough. This is interesting because the enemies were moving slowly, so you can shoot freely. My suggestion is to map the controls to other buttons, for example, the movement and vision to left click, but keeping the weapons in the keyboard. It would probably improve the speed of the gameplay :D But overall the game is good, very colorful and simple to understand ^^
Nice job! Some of the letters look very similar, and it took me a sec to realize the U was a V and the E was a W. Looks very nice.
Great entry! The gameplay is really well thought. What I really like is how you seamlessly integrated the genres. The design there is really good. Other than that, the game lacks a bit of progression. But still, I liked it a lot. Graphics are amazing and the UI is very concise and useful.
Cool Game. I love the the camera shaked when he shoot. My suggestion is that i think its better if the green guys can shoot also to make it challenging. But overall its a Good game i enjoyed it! Good job
This game was really fun for me and kept me playing for a while. I had 2 problems with this game. Firstly, the font used didn't differentiate between 'U' and 'V' too well so I ended up pressing U when I needed to press V. Secondly, the game slowed down after playing a while and didn't seem to speed back up. Also I think some music and sound effects would've made this game a lot more fun.
I love the core mechanic behind this. The execution of the firing with the text description adds SO much to this entry. Great work!
Congrats! Well done!
What I liked:
+Simple mechanic
+Drawing style / animation
+Innovative way of shooting/controls
+Everything is made by one person! You have my respect!
Ways to improve:
-Sound!? Any sound effects / sound track (even poor ones) will add up to user experience.
-Add more challenge/end goal. Say, crawl though the level on time or shoot all zombies on time. Otherwise the player can stay in place and just shoot around. Or even taking movement control from the player: the character moves to whatever he pleases and the player should shoot the way through the hordes of zombes - this way you can engage WASD buttons for shooting, or even the whole keyboard. Just give it a try.
Anyway, great job!
Nicely done! Good game feel and solid gameplay. Controls could use work, as some folks had mentioned. By the end I found the best thing to do was just mash the keyboard, ha ha. Hunting the right keys while moving was tough. Maybe the mouse could control the movement or something? Overall, though, great job!
The game concept is nice and the theme is well implemented, but it's too easy, the only thing that increases over time is lag.
Nice idea! I saw it on Twitter during the jam and thought it was quite interesting to put the keys on the bullet clip. This feel like a gameplay prototype/concept validation though, not a full game yet, but there is great potential! Anyway, congrats on making it through by yourself and from scratch, that's quite a feat!
Great idea, and nice execution! I had a bug where my character can't stop walking down the screen, but after reload the browser page all came back to normal.
The graphic style The concept of the key and ammo type changing
A little more aggresive IA Walls to retain the player (maybe a bug, but I could walk endless out the scene)
The game is sooo smooth. Sound Effects and Music would've made it really cool and more juicy. I liked the screen shake
I thought I'd miss the music and sound but ended up really enjoying the graphical sound effects! It was like playing a comic book! The feeling for everything was great, I liked the slow clunky movement of the main character and the switching to typing buttons would work great for a horror game where you feel like you are fumbling before every shot. It also would have been fun to see what letters were coming up ahead so I could let out a combo of firepower. My top score was 191. Good job without a framework really amazing!
I thought that hitting the keys to shoot would be too difficult to be fun, but I'm glad I was wrong. It really adds to the tension trying to find the right button to prees while trying to aim and dodge around. Great job!
I do agree with the others that some effects would have brought a bit more to the feel, especially when shooting. A goal like surviving or killing X enemies before moving to another level would also be nice touch. A little minor but the V looked like a U to me. I was confused at first.
Aside from that, the concept is great. Typing while moving around and aiming sure does make an interesting gameplay. I had fun. Good job!
I liked the art style. I wish there was sounds. I expected the screen to wrap or for a barrier to stop me from just walking really far away from where the floor had a pattern. The game also started to lag after a few minutes of playing which makes me think maybe some of the bullets are never de-spawning or something. Solid entry :)
All your feedbacks are well thought, you know what's happening at any time without having a single sound. I also like the auto-switching on weapons, it avoids that feeling of repetitivity that could happen really fast on that type of games !
The art is beautiful and gives a nice touch over that.
We just lack a goal to keep playing I think (we have the same problem on our game due to lack of time), waves or levels would perfectly fit in there.
And as @dp3rucha said, I could walk outside the spawning area, making it easy to avoid zombies, maybe that's why I found it easy to survive.
Anyway, great job ! 😄
What a creative mashup! I really like the visualization of the magazine and the "Button" queue thats surrounding your character. Shooting the guns also feels nice and responsive. I personally feel like it could use some more challenge, either by making the enemies more of a hazard or punishing the player for pressing a wrong button. Also the U and V letters looked a little similar with the font you used in my opinion, but that did not bother me much at all. I still had a blast playing this! Good job!
I think it would have been better to use arrow keys + 4/8 directional shooting instead of WASD + Mouse. It's kinda hard to press those buttons while moving with the same hand. The fact that you did this without a framework in such a short time is awesome!
Nice game. The game looks great, and I love the pixel art. It was little bit straining for my eyes since the background colors saturation feels a little bit high. The gameplay is fun but it is hard to move, aim and keep track of current letter at the same time. I found it easier to stay still and focus on shooting only and only when I feel surrounded, I start relocating. A score display after losing would be really, since I don't remember my score as I had to focus on surviving. Also I think adding wall around the area and may be obstacles would make it more fun. Great game and really well done.
Interesting game, needs to have more of a challenge though!
Very cool concept, would love to see this be made into a full game!
I love the GUI you made for this. Unfortunately I think it needs a lot more content and challenge. Just making the enemies move towards the player would make it much more intense.
I got over 400 points.
I really love the way the UI is integrated around the player, it looks really cool.
I really liked the controls, I was expecting something way "heavier" to control but it was quite functional and precise.
I liked the color choices too :)
The UI texts fades way too fast sometimes, but that's far from game-breaking. Nice job!!!
Interesting concept, a bit mind blowing sometimes ^.^ I liked the inertia and the controls of the characters Impressive game for a solo jam : o
Good job! Cool game!
I left my rating of your game, if you can leave your feedback in our game, Witch's Escape.
https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/witchs-escape
This was great albeit a bit easy. Ramping up the difficulty would be nice. Audio would definitely do this justice, as someone else has likely pointed out already.
Damn! very addictive and the main mechanic for shooting is awesome. It has a very good dynamics and the art is great af! My congrats!
PD: with sound could have been even more incredible.
Really great use of theme. The main problem I had was typing to shoot and moving at the same time. Maybe you can have movement by clicking with the mouse that way the key board is only for typing. You could get some fun coop with one person moving and aiming on mouse and one person typing to shoot on keyboard. Sometimes letter were hard to tell apart like E and W. If you expand upon the game I think music would make it feel more exciting. Great job with the camera movement and art.
Nice work! It felt really polished, the graphics looked great, and the gameplay was fun! Shooting the gun felt satisfying, and eventually the game just felt natural. I really enjoyed my time playing it, but I do think that if you had the difficulty increase over time, it would have helped as well. I got to about 500 points and don't think I got hit even once, as there weren't enough enemies to keep me in danger. Other than that, though, this was fantastic! Amazing job!
Hey guys, I appreciate all of you reviewing my submission! As many of you have pointed out, there should more content within the game where the difficulty scales with how long you've been playing. The controls on the other hand were designed to be difficult and designed to make you move your fingers. I meant this as a "Oh if I want to shoot here I'll have to my move my finger that is on the D key but I might die because of that". I'll be checking out your submissions!
Dude, that's really cool, i love the idea, first i thought that assigning control keys to the shoot key would be dangerous but it's pretty funny :) Good job !
Dude, that's really cool, i love the idea, first i thought that assigning control keys to the shoot key would be dangerous but it's pretty funny :) Good job !
The idea is great, I would just appreciate bigger challenge. I had could easily just stay in one place and shoot around with my touchpad. But if there were more and harder enemies, it would be hell of a fun!
That was fun to play, idea is great. I'm not really good at this kinda game but loved it. Art looks good, adding more monsters and different backgorunds would make it even better :)
Cool to play, the typing mechanics is one of the best i've seen so far in this LD. However it's hard to moove, aim and shoot at the same time. The fact that you implemented more than one type of shoot is a great thing !
@Solnak so glad to hear that!
Very fun game! Once I got the hang of all the mechanics it felt really polished and I liked the controls. Certainly a few things to have in your mind at the same time, not only do you need to focus on aiming and moving but also what type of ammo that is loaded.
Some sound effects and music would be really nice to have though. I like to use BFXR for sound effects and Jukedeck or Abundant Music. :musical_note:
Overall really nice game and I'm glad I got to play this game. Really well done!
Really cool idea! I like the shooting on the different keys, although having multiple keyboard layouts would be great (on a german keyboard, the Z key is far away from the WSAD). It also could use an increased variety of monsters, that would make the game a bit more difficult, too. Managed to get 235 kills before they got me. Good Job!
@tomdeal you need to checkout the azerty mode  @Linus I'll definitely check that out!
Ah nice, it is built in :-) Then I'll change my suggestion to "put a text into the game telling people about the possibility to use other keyboard layouts" ;-)
haha alright
Cool idea, visuals are really easy to read - overall great game! Some harder monsters that would appear later in the game woulb be welcome
Very cool idea and implementation. Playing made a lot of fun!
Some points for improvement: * Sound effects would improve immersion * The score counter vanishes the second you die - I don't know my final score, but it was around 300 * The enemies seemed to be too passive - they only try to home on you when they are already pretty close - or is that even just by chance? * A sort of goal would be great - e.g. try to get to the bottom / right / some destination point * The difficulty could slowly increase while getting to that point
Really interesting concept, love the small backstory of the "warrior".
Things i really liked:
- Visuals looked really nice.
- Firing and hitting enemies is satisfying.
- Loved effect when you rotated your mouse and "ammunition" sort of just rotates around.. really cool looking thing!
What i would change:
- Instead of having buttons that you have to press next to character it would be nice to have it next to cursor so you don't have to pause for a moment to look at what button you have to press.
- Slightly more variety with enemies.
- Sound obviously.
All in all, great game!
@Shelvid I love that idea about having the buttons & ammo next to cursor. I'll test that out.
@mshopf your score disappearing could've been because of your last letter being an X. If you spam it -> you'll also respawn
Very neat but simple concept (in a good way!), and executed with a lot of *juiciness*. The bulge effect on the projectile when it comes out the gun before stretching it is really nice, good use of screenshake and dust particles. I dig those things a lot.
It started lagging really bad on Firefox after a short while, though. I tried it in Edge then, but WASD didn't move my character there. It finally worked all right in Chrome, but there was still a little lag going on.
The art is cool, nice spherical design around the player for the key stack and the ammo. Very cute zombies too. Obviously, this game would have benefited greatly with audio, even just simple 8-bit squeaks and blops. The visual feedback that the next key needs to be pressed isn't *really* there and a reload sound would've helped a ton there, for instance.
All in all, sweet!
Nice top-down shooting game! The movement works well and the random weapons keeps you alert. The GUI is beautifull. I think that the typing element is too simple and doesn't represent a challenge. Increasing the typing part with words or the other letters of the alphabet would enhace the progression and variety of the game. Good work!
would be nice to be able to use both hands on the keyboard, one for direction and the other one for shooting
Nice mixed genres!
It would be amazing if there were more feedback about the letters change. I feel pretty good the letter you have on actual ammo but it would be perfect if I could know when it is going to change the letter or what letter is going to be.
Perhaps the difficulty it is a little easy? I dont get touch by the zombies in any moment. It could be improved if the IA comes to get you for example (or going harder to you xD)
Anyway, that is a nice entry, I like the idea and I have fun playing this!
Good job!
This was fun. Really nice combination... perhaps if you would consider change the whole thing on keyboard so you don't have to have mouse in your hand, would be a nice touch. But it is still really nice entry. Good job!
While very simplistic, the guns and text effects were so cool.
chrome_2018-04-28_16-33-12.png
A bit on the easy side, but the mechanics of Keyboard Warrior seem ripe to be further expanded later down the line. It was a bit hard to get used to constantly changing weapons, but the more I played, the more it grew on me. It forced the player to think, react and adapt quickly. Paired with the text effects, the game felt just right on setting and delivery
It was still on the easy side though. Like some open sandbox. I never truly felt any urgency, and overall, this played more like an experiment of mechanics, with no real objective other than surviving. You've got quite a lot of feedback already, so odds are that I'd end up repeating something you've already read a few times.
All in all, this is an inspiring project. Very fitting with the theme, and extremely solid mechanics that should seriously be considered for a more elaborate project. [My team](twitter.com/whalesandgames) would really like to see more of this. Cheers! :whale:
At first, I was really confused why the fire button kept changing then I started getting used to it. Love the graphics, simple and clean. One issue I had with the pixel font for the key to fire was missing up the V with a U. Great game!
NICE, concept is great. execution is good. it's fun and interesting...problems though. lag, alot of lag for some reason. the ground changed to all one color after a while, the difficulty did not increase over time. but this was a 3 day game so awesome job :) its in my top 10 favorites so far.
Love this lil shooter. Played on Mac with touchpad- "look" did not work- could only shoot down and to the right. Kept playing though- and that is a testament to your game fo sho. The graphics and animations were tip top- can't wait to hear this! Especially with all the cool texts and opportunity for ear bleed. Thanks for the game!
Kudos for doing this from scratch with no framework, I've done LD like that before and know it's a challenge! The gameplay was enjoyable. Actually it was super fun. But I felt limited by the lack of any kind of goal. Maps with objectives and limited ammo or something else to add some urgency would turn this from a fun experiment into a seriously good game.
It is very simple and pleasant to play. The graphics are nice and the animation really beautiful! The idea is very funny and original! Congratulations !
This game's core mechanic is pretty fun. I like how I have to reach my hand all around in order to use my weapon, almost like I'm playing twister. This game really takes advantage of the mechanics of the user interface. That said, I really wish the game was more challenging. I mostly just wandered around killing zombies with no problem. Having the game ramp up in difficulty with more enemies and new enemy types would be nice. Also having a map that isn't completely blank would add some needed variety to the game. As it stands, this game feels a lot like a tech demo as opposed to a full game, but the core mechanic definitely shows a lot of promise. Excellent work!
Very smooth and polished. It's keyboard twister. I found moving around with keyboard pressing all those keys around the ones I use to move is just confusing (I play more on console) I feel like the was no difficulty ramp. It is not that hard to move around without dying. Great job!
Game plays and feels really good! A nice concept you've come up with. Wish there was atleast some audio though. Also doesn't seem like there is a challenge, it's more like a sandbox demo where you run around freely shooting stuff. But I liked the experience!
Interesting concept to add different keys for a fire mechanic. I really would've liked some audio and a bit more difficulty. Good submission overall!
It's really cool!
Played a few lives, I enjoyed it! Nothing to say about the graphics, it's perfect. The feeling is good too, and the difficulty is there (WHY MY GUN DOESN'T SHOOT?!? oh the key just changed) To me it's more of a prototype than a totally finished game, but it's a REALLY WELL made and polished prototype!
Great work (;
You have a really nice feel to the game. Good screenshake, the art style fits well together and the shots are satisfying. At first I thought the controls were a bit awkward but I saw @superpokeunicorn post about it being like a finger tongue twister and that made me look at it in a much more positive light. Great start, I can see some cool potential with this.
Very good work!Nice mechanics! Its very original! At first I found the game a bit too dificult but It was me haha. The 2d art is clean and beautiful!Good work!Well done for 72 hours!
Here is our game if you want to check it! https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/me-da-miedito-la-oscuridad-i-get-goosebumps-in-the-dark
Like others already mentioned, there's really no difficulty in this game, it's basically impossible to die if you don't do it on purpose (and you should add some colliders so the player can't get outside the chess ground). It's laggy on Firefox, but works fine in Chrome. The game feels smooth, and gotta love those onomatopeias  Good work!
First submission for a game Jam ever?... Fo real? This is really impressive! First of all, I sometimes forget to comment, but the fact this game is plyable in ZQSD is really enjoyable [je suis Français aussi, les vrais savent ^^#], then the graphics and gameplay are really smooth! I'd say once I died there was no death screen, just all the characters [playable character as well as zombies] disappeared from the screen, leaving just the background image that would move around following the mouse - that's a bit messy but it doesn't break the game - then I'd encourage you guys to change the code slightly so the keys "A, Q, Z, S, W & D" can't be chosen to shoot, seen as they're already used for moving around, and maybe introducing some variety would be a nice touch, too - OH - also I almost forgot: the zombies could be a little more aggro, and put more pressure on the player - I feel right now they barely put any, they're a bit too easy to kill IMO - but beyond all that, it's a really fun and smooth game! If it's really your 1st game Jam ever well... do some more! You're already doing a damn fine job, nice one :-D
When I shot multiple monsters with one keypress, I felt powerful! If you continue to develop this, when I wandered away from the checkerboard I felt lost and when I got into a crowd of monsters and the frames per seconds slowed down, I felt sluggish.
What I liked:
- The pixel art - The shooting (Really, the bullets look super cool)
Suggestions:
- A scoring system would have been great.
Overall, awesome entry.
Neat game! I included it in my Ludum Dare 41 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8gETlUarz7Y
