LD42 — Running out of space

Reverse by Goutye 2018-08-14T12:24:10Z

I saw this game at some point on my live #LDJAM search on Twitter during the jam and knew I just had to try it. I love the negative space thing, obviously space filling fits the theme. Subtly zen ambiance with some eerie and kinda oppressive tension that fits the theme very well too!

Much appreciated to take into account non-QWERTY keyboards!

The toughest part is that after doing the Jam my brain is so tired I have a hard time solving those puzzles xD

What Is On The Walls Inside by fullmontis 2018-08-14T12:48:21Z

This game is absolutely awesome! Got the "memory" ending, which struck quite the cord. I like the fact that you can't explore everything in one single playthrough.

I loved the interface, and the art is really good.

Interesting take on the way space gets consumed... quite literally!

Great style, but sadly hard to play on: - non QWERTY keyboards due to WASD->ZQSD (AZERTY here) - laptops that don't have a middle button (maybe use a modifier+drag) - laptops that do right click as two-finger click (maybe have a key to rotate)

I definitely got hooked by this tiny timed puzzle game.

Crucifix and Tentacle by Cedric Fey 2018-08-14T13:11:55Z

@dylanbr Thanks! Yeah we had lots of ideas, like a massive explosion that would kill nearby enemies and repel the darkness, a flying sidekick, various weapon patterns...

Pre Alpha Build by PlusMinus 2018-08-14T12:54:15Z

Fantastic. The shapes are so twisted it just emphasises on the theme. Took me a couple of tries to understand the resource mechanics but it was very fun! Old school EGA pixel art was nice too :)

GoldSlash by Gjallar 2018-08-14T13:16:33Z

Aww, too bad there's no macOS or web build (yet?)

Invasion of The Jelly-Aliens by Cosdots_HM 2018-08-14T13:20:22Z

Gameplay is really tough to the point of feeling unbalanced, but the art and backstory is just adorable crazy nonsense xD

Edge Of Space by Valden 2018-08-14T12:59:27Z

Beyond awesome. Extremely fun, approachable yet challenging, terrific graphics by themselves but the monochrome with the old school CRT effect is a really nice touch. Top notch controls and visual feedback like screen shakes give an incredible feel. Textbook example of how to do a LDJAM.

This looks interesting... Any chance of a macOS or web build?

LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

g3ms by HolyBlackCat 2018-04-28T07:08:47Z

Within seconds I knewI *had* to get my hand on a Windows machine to try this (macOS here). I was not disappointed: every bit as awesome as I thought it would be. The art is a delicious mix of throwback to VGA and modern 2D games.

Anti-Terror Bot by Ellian 2018-04-28T07:18:17Z

This game really captures the basic principles of Macross/Robotech, which apparently is a terribly hard thing to do given the poor track record of existing games! Great music and SFX, controls are awesome, pacing takes some time getting used to but it's fantastic. Given the player sprite was expecting a top-down view on the map though, maybe a la Desert Strike. UI is just fantastic. Love the details poured into the title screen too!

PE@CE by bwalter 2018-04-28T07:04:22Z

This game caught my eye on Twitter and it's every bit as good as I hoped for it to be. The animations are slick, the controls are very reactive and predictable. Best of all, when you die it feels like you're responsible, not that it was bad luck. The mood is awesome and it's incredibly fun. Where's the 6th rating star???

Tetrikaruga by gre 2018-04-26T12:15:32Z

This is really good, and manages to get to the core of both genres without simply aping them, and mix them together juuust like a proper cocktail is done.

Type2Flap by Cedric Fey 2018-04-26T11:09:29Z

Thank you all for the feedback! We really appreciate it :D

I'm doing some kind of post-mortem that may address some points, so maybe the curious ones can get a better feeling of what the idea was behind each command (But please don't let that bias your ratings! This is no excuse!)

EDIT: here's [the post-mortem](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/type2flap/$94473)

One-Sec Bullet-Hell by rainysolar 2018-04-26T12:08:45Z

Very good gameplay concept, and solid implementation. The art has potential, I love it.

KEYBOARD WARRIOR by croewens 2018-04-26T13:43:42Z

Nice idea! I saw it on Twitter during the jam and thought it was quite interesting to put the keys on the bullet clip. This feel like a gameplay prototype/concept validation though, not a full game yet, but there is great potential! Anyway, congrats on making it through by yourself and from scratch, that's quite a feat!

Moah the Mower by cukiakimani 2018-04-28T07:29:57Z

What the... I didn't expect to enjoy this that much. From sounds to music to collars to the delightful shake on the mower, art really comes together for a very special experience. A slightly bigger playground area would be nice. I found it quite hard to control the speed and turn, often overspeeding/understeering. Might be because my machine wasn't up to spec (HiDPI, macOS, HD4000) so there was quite some latency and low frame rate. As good as it was, I found it hard to relate to the theme though. But with the pattern thing I can see a picross/puzzle game in there...

Late for Love by Gaze Team 2018-04-28T07:54:49Z

What can I say... Engaging, gorgeous, brilliant. @lemonbalmgames said it all, but what I really liked the most is the open-ended-ness of it, not saying too much (during the game *and* at the end) let me fill the blanks with my own thoughts, making me feel much more involved. Fantastic interactive storytelling that really, really nails down how to use the medium that games are. The aesthetic is top notch, with all the little details like the light reflections on the car and the passing lights on the face... What a mood.
