Feels only like a match3 game, not like a genre hybrid. It's a nice match3 though :)
Nice job! I really love the idea and the art. I found myself with no possible good matches several times, and was forced to match bad things until I lost! So watch out for that.
Otherwise, I think this could just benefit from sound effects a little reactions by the character when you match things. Great game!
It's lovely. I would love to see the farming simulator aspect actually fleshed out.
Nice game, could be an educational game btw. Even if I couldn't win it, the bugs are too much compares to the hearts. :/
Sometimes, there's just no avoiding matching bad stuff and it can be somewhat frustrating when they automatically match one after another, leading to a game over.
Like the suggestion above, some sound effects and the carrot/sunflower reacting to matches could flair the game a bit.
Good job so far!
i wouldve liked to have been able to chat with the plants as i thought it was going to be a dating sim type experience, but a nice idea overall and the art is adorable!
cute game and art. background music and sound would make it better. and maybe more characters would come randomly like tinder can make it funnier if you're planning to work on this game in the future. anyways good job :)
Please, do a post-jam release! The gameplay needs some improvements, more content and some additions for sure. But the 2d art and the mechanics were pretty fun! I really expected the "farming" aspect, but it was not implemented. It's a good jam entry, in overall! I think that this game would be a nice time-killer html5 game for working pause or something like this. Thanks for your work, and have a nice day :)
Great artwork and fun idea! Wish you would do post-jam version where characters talk to you when you match resources.
Good match3 game, I like the idea of bad matches and having one kind of match that reduce the bad ones effects. But as often with match3, I miss a logical random filling : the random generator must avoid generating auto-matching tiles, without that system, you can lost just by the random generation, and not by mistake or bad choice. And appart of that, good work on the graphics.
I really liked this game, even without sound, but it was anticlimactic when I won and just got a victory screen. I wanted a blushing carrot! It was also harder to find matches in such a small grid and I wish it would've recognized T- or L-matches.
For me, it's only a match3 game. And, to be honest, I don't like match3...
In addition, sometimes, i don't know why, the game say me game over but i don't have the time to see why or what bar is too much completed... (and, once, the green bar was over its limit and it did nothing)
The date sim part is... inexistent? For me you just did a match3 and you just put a carrot and a sunflower over (which is not a bad idea for a dating sim, and the design of those character are really good!).
In my oppinion, you should make a more important part of dating sim in the game because actually it's only a match3 like all the other, and you should put a music too^^
Well, if you want to try another type of dating sim, check out our game: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/date-fighter
Edit : After reading myself, my words were a little bit harshs. The art is cool, and the mechanic with the gauges is interesting, but as mentioned LeReveur, you should improve the random generator.
I love the characters, they are adorable. The game is extremely hard though, it could really use some re-balancing.
**Thanks you all for playing, and your feedback !**
@memel06 A post-jam release is planned !
@arzi @poorwill @sam-machell @julink I didn’t wanted to make a game with two phases of different genre (you play a dating-sim, then a match-3), but merge it in more depth.
In [this post explaining the theme](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/$75164/what-do-these-themes-mean-final-round), “Racing game” is reduce to the fact that “[the player] are trying to be the first to get to the finish”. So I reduce “Farming simulation” to “take care of plants” and “Dating-sim” to “interact with a character to fulfill his desires and win his heart”.
It’s seem that my interpretation of these genres was a little too simplistic/not what was expected. 🤔
So yes, it is primarily a match-3 game. *Where “dating-sim interactions” are matches instead of dialogues and gifts and characters are garden plants !* =)
But some ideas i'm thinking about can add a little more "dating-sim" feeling to the game
Here is a list of things I planned but couldn’t add before deadline: * Character animations (I agree with @pparadigm that a blushing carrot is definitely needed!) * Sound effects and music * More characters (planned a Strawberry and a Turnip) * Better main menu and victory/gameover screen (character selection should have been a “seed package” selection)
Working to add all this in the post-jam release !
@joe-cowman @kalavecy @riordan @lereveur @campbell I take good note, I’ll work on the difficulty and look to remove the auto-matching (at least avoid matching bugs and cold) ^^
@idikit @killnaprimer Good ideas, I’m gonna think about it ! Thanks !
Now I’m gonna take some time to play yours games 😀
art wins out :smile:unfortunately, neither the carrot nor the sunflower we happy with my puzzle skills haha - swap that score font out with something more fitting/pixel and get eveything you want added and I'd love to try it out again!
Looks very nice. But the gameplay makes me sad (I really do not like match3). But still it was fun to click in this game for a few minutes.
It's got some good pixel art going for it, great job on that!
The game itself is just too random though, or more likely heavily steered towards negative outcomes by design. Half of the time I'm simply _forced_ to lose because the game generates mostly hazards to the table and since, unlike the other types, all hazards count up the same meter so you're left with rather frustrating gameplay. Usually, if at all, Match-3 games add negative matches very cautiously. Also, the game doesn't really incorporate farming _or_ dating simulator in its current state, other than in set dressing.
Being honest, I didn't enjoy it that much which is a shame because I can easily see potential fun with this. Some thoughtful rebalancing & animations and sounds alone would really bring this to life so I do hope you take a shot at it Post-Jam!
Aaah that was really frustrating. Having no other choice than matching ants or snowflakes happens a lot and, even if you did your best, you have no other choice but to lose. That's really sad because it ruins the whole game when there are good ideas and nice artwork...
I dont think I really understood the bars, but visually everything was very nice!
Cute graphics! I included it in my Ludum Dare 41 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NizAskJCoRk
Good job! Cool game!
I left my rating of your game, if you can leave your feedback in our game, Witch's Escape.
I hope you continue with the project.
