Cool intro, pretty fun game!

It looks like having two super drills and swapping between both is the easiest way to win the game. Sadly, there's no point killing the enemies since we can easily run away from them.

Fun game, great pressure mechanic. It was a little hard to get used to the controls at first, but a stellar title over all! I think the cracks could have been better pronounced, some of the mechanics felt a little difficult to read.

squirmonkey 2021-04-27 03:58

A clever idea. I struggled with it because the cannon has an issue where sometimes it destroys a block above me, instead of the one I'm pointing at. Nice work

fist-full-of-shrimp 2021-04-28 02:25

Loved the theme you went with on this one. The cannon, drill and rocket were great tools. I wish the drill had a bit more drilling power to it, but I can also see the balance of just picking up two drills. Favorite part was the wind storms that would blow through. The level generation was also impressive.

pascone 2021-04-28 02:27

The storm constantly creeping down was really cool

lb01 2021-04-28 02:31

This is a great and challenging game. The recharging mechanic on the tools wasn't immediately obvious to me, but once I figured it out I had a lot of fun with it.

tarcisiotm 2021-04-28 02:32

Nice graphics, really enjoyed the atmosphere! Liked how different this game looks and plays. I just couldn't understand much about the death conditions, but otherwise great job! =]

jonathan-turner 2021-04-28 02:33

Thanks for participating in the jam.

I really liked the mechanics at play here. Was simple to grasp that you had to avoid the storm and go deeper.

Decent difficulty i only made it to 30 something.

I didn't understand what the rocket was for since i was always digging and there was no fall damage, hm.

Nice job.

sockpuppetcow 2021-04-28 02:49

The little robot character is adorable, good combat, and I love that the storm follows you down adding pressure to go deeper.

Also, love the "doritos ok" check in the start screen

Thank you all for the feedback! I'm loving it!

@squirmonkey I was aware of that bug. I spent so much time trying to get that cannon to work correctly, but it just didn't want to cooperate. In order to find out what block to damage, I need a 2d position inside of that block. When using raycasts this is easy, just take the point of contact and subtract the normal of the surface. But the cannon projectiles use a trigger collider which doesn't give me much information about where the collision happened. No raycast, no normal. Sometimes the collision is detected before the projectile enters the block, sometimes its already inside the block due to it's speed. I tried so many hacky solutions, and this was the least buggy of them all. It still bugs me.

@fist-full-of-shrimp This was the first time I had dabbled in procedurally generated infinite worlds. All the level generation was done using a mixture of simplex noise, perlin noise, and some logic rules for spawning items. Damaged/Destroyed blocks were stored in a separate data structure and applied ontop of the procedural generation. Taben was mostly the mastermind behind the world generation, he's a madman.

@tarcisiotm Thank you! All the art was from Jacob Ostrander. This was his first time working on any video game before! He learned so much in such a short period of time.

wetburritosupreme 2021-04-29 18:48

The pressure added by the storm was great, good artstyle throughout, awesome job on the random gen world.

robotex 2021-04-30 09:39

Nice graphics and sounds but process is not very fun (or I just don't now what is the goal). I think, it can be a good game after polishing

sequoiadolce 2021-05-01 18:14

Fun game adn cool concept! defintely played it a few times and learned more about interacting witht he environment and how to best pass certain challenges! It wasn't until I read the comments that I was aware that you could destroy the enemies! I just kept on trying to dig deeper! lol

I also found that the drill situation was the most fruitful way for me to progress. It would be cool if there were powerups that also like gave a shield or like ways to regain some health as you went down! Or if there are then I may not have progressed far enough yet! But overall really fun game and control s that feel good! I definitely pfelt pressured by that dust storm!

yword 2021-05-01 18:14

Really interesting gameplay, and quite challenging too! Nice works! Maybe it will be more fun if can collect some power ups to upgrade the weapons.

mighty-mufflon-games 2021-05-01 20:47

Sooo close ... xD

Really great entry. I like that it is challenging, but always fair. Cool mechanics.

Double-drill meta OP.

I had a lot of fun with this one once I got the hang of it. This was a nice all-around experience with plenty of room for improvement. Would love to see where you take it if you decide to expand on it further. :)

bodaciouslycrazy 2021-05-02 17:40

@mighty-mufflon-games That image physically hurts. XD

rhoka 2021-05-03 02:20

Good job on this! Simple and well executed. As others have said it seems like with the pressure of the storm coming down the best play is to use double drills and ignore the enemies. I get that the rocket power was meant to give you the ability to go down faster but the fall speed is already fairly quick so it kinda felt unnecessary. Same goes for the gun power. If the time you had to get down was a bit longer and maybe there was some incentive for killing the enemies rather than dodging them? Otherwise the art was well done and it plays well!

ruddiculous 2021-05-03 06:24

Exactly what a good LD entry should be: simple, quickly understandable and engaging enough to complete and do so in a bite size amount of time. I think any criticism I have are just improvements to what you've already made. Great work team!

cr1stal 2021-05-16 20:54

Good idea, decent implementation and interesting mechanics.
