LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

Magneto De Liquidus by Ajayajayaj 2018-05-11T03:17:15Z

This is a very creative way to interpret the theme and a very creative way to simulate liquids! I do agree with @ Le-Slo about the variable speed, but it's not something that gets in the way of the gameplay.

The clouds in the background are a neat touch that liven up the game, but some audio would have helped. Perhaps a "swoosh" or a "blop" with the clicks, and maybe [some background sounds](https://bit.ly/2rBD9P0). These are just minor things, though -- it's fun to play regardless!

Hole in One!

This game is AWESOME! I've never played golf, but if it's anywhere as cool as this, I'm in.

Killing zombies with grenades was fun, and the ragdoll physics made it all the more exciting. I just wish walking over a dead zombie didn't kill you, but oh well.

Nicely done

Anti-Terror Bot by Ellian 2018-04-24T03:48:35Z

I loved it; played it three times through.

Frogger: The Jigsaw by loveapplegames 2018-05-06T03:48:55Z

Wow, I really enjoyed playing this. It's very difficult to not die in the later levels, but it's very fun. Although the game's graphics are kinda goofy, I think it adds to the overall aesthetic.

Unfortunately, the music did not play on my browser (Google Chrome), but at least I got to hear it through the videos. Nonetheless, I was very impressed by the concept of the game and had tons of fun simultaneously scanning and dodging. Awesome game!

Frogger: The Jigsaw by loveapplegames 2018-05-11T01:38:29Z

Hey, @loveapplegames I checked the game out on firefox and loved the audio! And, hey, that LD41 Search function is really useful too. Thanks for sharing

Forging Heroes by Guilb 2018-05-11T02:51:47Z

Awesome game! The graphics are very clean -- I especially like the Greek Frets on the UI.

Though, playing on the mac version, I encountered a glitch where the warrior just floats over everything. I quit and restarted the game, but couldn't reproduce it.

Also, I found that it was completely viable to just ignore the blacksmith altogether and hit orcs until it's over. The orcs are just too simple-minded, I think: all they do is follow you around, but if they were to go back and attack the house, there would be more incentive for the player to forge more weapons.

Even so, it was much more enjoyable to play the game with both warrior and blacksmith. It was actually quite fun!

PORTABOY by Lumpy 2018-05-15T05:28:56Z

Wow, amazing job on this. I managed 4750 the fourth time around. *My recommendation for players:* **Spend all cash on ammo**

The music, the art, the porta-boy aesthetic -- I love it all. And to follow the theme so fantastically, with variety, and meta-gameplay, this is probably the best game I have played so far.

Hopscotch by jcgamedev 2018-04-25T04:03:56Z

@Bodaciouslycrazy I am so glad that you and your roommate liked the game! I was going for that simple, pick-up-and-play aspect from web games like [Tank Trouble](tanktrouble.com).

Although I was aware of the gun selection issue while making Hopscotch, I couldn't think of a way to code a solution during the jam hours, so I just left it as it is. Actually, when there is a gun to your right, the button you have to press is not even consistent. Sometimes it's up and other times it's down; it depends on which gun instance is created first at the start of the level 😣

As for the camera, I was hoping that the concealment would provide an element of surprise to the levels. For example, the fifth level has 4 paths to choose from, but the player doesn't know which path is the best (at least the first time around). To address the issue of falling when it is your turn, I think adding a second of wait before the player can move again would make the camera transition easier to adapt to.

I plan on developing the game further, so I really appreciate your feedback :)

Hopscotch by jcgamedev 2018-04-26T05:58:25Z

@Bodaciouslycrazy Wow, thanks! I haven't considered controller support but that's a great idea. Game Maker Studio 2 supports it, however, the temporary license for Ludum Dare just expired :/ I'll buy the desktop license so I can keep working as soon as possible.

Hopscotch by jcgamedev 2018-04-27T04:09:45Z

@cosdots-jr I know the controls can be difficult, especially for wall-jumping. Thank you on the graphics, though!

Hopscotch by jcgamedev 2018-04-27T04:17:00Z

@Imphenzia Yeah, I know what that's like. While making the game, I had to playtest most of the levels playing by myself 😅. Thanks for checking it out!

Hopscotch by jcgamedev 2018-05-11T02:11:38Z

@Guilb Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed playing

And @Ajayajayaj, thank you as well! I was inspired by [the tank game from the atari 2600](http://www.8-bitcentral.com/images/reviews/atari2600/combat2600Screen2.jpg)

Cosmic Cadence by Bodaciouslycrazy 2018-04-26T04:31:05Z

Great game, @Bodaciouslycrazy! It took me a moment to catch the beat, but it was quite fun once I got the hang of it. I loved the color mechanic too. Keeping to the beat, hitting the boss with the right sequence of colors, and dodging the bullets all at the same time was very engaging.

The only negative I noticed is that the tinier yellow bullets are hard to distinguish from the stars from the background, but the animation helped with that. I couldn't agree more with @ Moski -- "it gets so satisfying as time goes on." Very well done.

RoadRover by Bisher.d790 2018-05-07T02:47:39Z

Man, that was fun!! Those last 20 seconds had my heart thumping. As others have already mentioned, turning with the vehicle is too sensitive, and the depth of field is a bit hard on the eyes, but, wow, this game is cool. Good job!

- Arc Boss - Sternum vs The DDDmension Faries by ElusiveMilestone 2018-04-26T05:18:55Z

Hi @ElusiveMilestone, I really enjoyed your game! My highest score was 62, and I found myself wanting to play more and more.

One big complaint I have is that the high score doesn't save 😟! After restarting, it just goes back to zero. Kinda beats the purpose. Also, the fairy sound effect when you hit them gets a little repetitive. Perhaps when a pink fairy spawns from the top, you could reuse the laughing sound from the intro cutscene, just to vary.

Albeit, the game's good features outweigh the bad. Apart from the issues already mentioned in other comments, the game is addictive and fun. Well done

Amass a Fleet by Isle 3 Studios 2018-04-30T05:01:44Z

I must have reloaded 80 or more times playing this game.

Every platform is technically reachable, and every projectile evadable, but, gee, has anyone ever beaten the game? Is there even an end? How frustrating.

After overcoming the near-impossible platforms, you have to deal with the fire from above. Eventually, there is a stalemate. Despite outnumbering the enemy 5:1, it is just waaay too difficult to break through. Some instructions would have helped too. WASD and Space are simple enough to figure out, but I couldn't find a way to fire the player's gun, so I assume there is no way.

Albeit, 80 painstaking attempts are still 80 attempts -- the game is quite fun. As has already been mentioned, the game's visuals are spectacular, and the game is quite engaging indeed. It seems futile to try to win, but one tries anyway. Well done.
