Not sure what you meant with 3D style art but you can't go wrong with a classic like this  had over 100 points! Let me know what you think of my submission!! https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/keyboard-warrior

I like the idea of bringing 3d invaders into a highscore arcade game, and the music and feel match up with that idea. However, I think I found a problem with the enemy design. I just parked myself in the bottom right corner and nothing could get past my sword. I played until I got the 5400 points screenshotted above, then suicided because I was bored and the difficulty wasn't going up. Things got a bit strange after a while - fairies would crash into each other on their own and score large domino chains and by the end I had three fairies that were just kind of flapping around in the foreground instead of descending on the stage. Regardless, good work!

@piscythe About the enemy design, it really was an oversight - I should've placed a spawn point at the corner. I'm trying to fix the bugs you mentioned (those happened a lot more when I was playtesting), but I still can't figure out why they happen.

Thanks for the feedback! I hope you had fun playing my game :)

When played intentionally, this game is actually rather fun, and difficult! Shield bashing is an interesting mechanic, encouraging you to risk your hiney and get up close and personal with multiple fairies... I tried to gather as many greens on the ground as possible before leaping in and bashing them, but it ended up as well as you'd expect.

Until I ended up in the corner, which ironically felt nothing like being cornered.

piscythe has already mentioned the bugs he encountered when exploiting the game that way, so I won't go into detail. I like that you chose art genres instead of mechanics, though I feel the marriage could have been a little more interesting... Other than that, art's pretty alright, and the music choice is pretty frickin' great. Good job, overall!

I like the 3d vs 2d but ultimately it's just a melee platformer with infinite enemies so I found it pretty difficult without much satisfaction. I liked the music and death sounds a lot.

Fast action-based gameplay and nice dynamic music do their job Nice entry!

I don't get the point of the shield bash. Why not just use the sword all the time if the only point is to kill ?

walkdigidong 2018-04-25 20:51

Like it. Nice graphics. Gameplay is simple, but still good) I think, you should add something like bonuses, other weapons and levels.

Really nice graphics and gameplay. It would be nice if there was a very short cooldown on the sword attack, I found myself spamming it and watching lines of enemies helplessly run into my blade of doom. Overall great job!

@anonymous My intention was using the shield bash to gain more points. The idea is that fairies start to accumulate, so you use the shield bash to eliminate them and gain more points than you would by attacking with the sword. I didn't have too much time to playtest, but I should've increased the distance the fairies fly when you shield bash them. And increased the spawning rate after some time, too...

Tough little game. The music in this is really catchy!!

Nice entry! Music was great, but perhaps the gameplay could have a bit more depth. I found that a perfectly good strategy was to just stand at the bottom and spam your sword.

Hi @ElusiveMilestone, I really enjoyed your game! My highest score was 62, and I found myself wanting to play more and more.

One big complaint I have is that the high score doesn't save 😟! After restarting, it just goes back to zero. Kinda beats the purpose. Also, the fairy sound effect when you hit them gets a little repetitive. Perhaps when a pink fairy spawns from the top, you could reuse the laughing sound from the intro cutscene, just to vary.

Albeit, the game's good features outweigh the bad. Apart from the issues already mentioned in other comments, the game is addictive and fun. Well done

Extra-dimensional invaders in a 2d game are a really cool idea. The music was also really enjoyable, nice job .

I enjoyed the game and had a lot of fun! The 2D and 3D combination could have been used in a more intutive way I think, not sure how this would be accomplished though.

The music and sound effects were nice too. I like the simple controls and they worked well. I would have liked though if the player would do a "slash" attack striking upwards and then in front so that you could attack the invaders above aswell when jumping + slashing instead of dying.

Also having the ability to dropdown to the platforms below would have been nice in this type of game when the enemies come at a more rapid phase.

Overall very well implemented game and a lot of fun!
